Still waiting for SAM changes to be reverted

Title says it all. I can't be bothered to run content on any other job and now I just idle in Ul'dah or at my house all day and watch youtube. The only reason I'm still subbed is because I have friends here. I just really hope Squeenix listens to player feedback and does the right thing because I'm not sure how much patience I have left before I decide to unsub for good.

You can still play SAM since it is not deemed dead as many declared to be.

You’ll burnt out the more eager you plead for reverting changes request.

With that said, don't expect any potential changes to sam until 6.2 which wont be until around late July, early August.

OP’s protest seems to aggravate further pressure as though the whole DPS forums is vastly over populated with SAM posts.

I am not going to sugar coated but be direct & it’s absurd for anyone to beg further for changes or “else i unsub” basically puts you on that tantrum.

All in all continue to live under this illusion which otherwise hasn’t given much fruit.

I feel ya but if you like busier jobs that can still do really good damage I'd say try out Nin. It took me a bit of time to start doing Samurai like DPS with em but now I'm clearing Endsinger EX with em and topping the charts doing so.

Or alternatively try leveling other jobs in general. I found a few to be surprisingly fun when I thought they wouldn't be (such as DNC).

I do still hold out hope for a SAM revert though as I'm never touching the now brain dead and boring job again until that point, but at the very least there are other jobs out there you may have fun with. (Until SE decides to destroy them as well).

You can adapt and still have grievances. I'm only continuing to play sam because I don't feel like grinding a gear set again for another job. If MNK was more like pre-endwalker MNK I'd switch to that, but its not so I pretty much only play sam during raid nights and will likely switch to a new job during the next raid tier.

Current SAM isn't fun. Adapting to the changes doesn't change the fact that the way sam plays now is horrid and literally every single sam player agrees that its horrid. We got hagakure back during shadowbringers, so its entirely possible we can get kaiten back and the auto crit removed in the next major patch for endwalker.

A friend of mine was in the top 10 for DSR world first clears. Normally he plays DRG, but he also enjoyed SAM quite a bit during ShB and early EW, so I asked him what he thought of the 6.1 SAM changes. His response was "total trash" and then he went on to say how he keeps at least three melee dps leveled and geared at all times because you never know when SE's "balancing" is going to come along and ruin things.

Adapting isn't the problem. That's easy. What people are saying is that we don't like what we're adapting to.

And the devs specifically said to offer our thoughts and feedback after trying the changes in 6.1 back when they did the patch notes reading a month ago. Hence why so many have suddenly popped out of the woodwork to say the change to SAM isn't great.

im in the same boat OP is. i found SAM so fun that i can hardly stomach the game at all since it's been neutered. I haven't even completed the patch storyline.

Haven't touched the job since the changes. Tried for 2 minutes and felt my brain shut off for a split second and never went back to it.

I at least like a little thinking in my jobs. If I wanted to not think at all and go ham with a powerful job, I'd do that with Summoner. Which I do, when I'm too tired to think.

Just adapt they say. I'm sorry, I can't get over jobs being butchered as they have been recently and just being okay with it. Feedback is important, so feedback they will get. We pay for this game, I expect our feedback to be taken into consideration and respected at the very least. Players won't just simply stand idle and give SE a pat on the back for making jobs more simple, for a game with a subscription.

It's not a strange concept to be upset over recent changes. And to be scared of future changes.

As someone who has played mainly SAM since it's release. What exactly is it that has made SAM unplayable for People?? Genuinely curious because with the exception of Kaiten removal (which was just a boring oGCD and I'm glad it's gone) I don't really understand what has made the class "unplayable."

So I'll humor you because it looks like you haven't read any other threads. People like big hits, they like winding up damage, they like having to think about their play. Pick a reason, you'll find plenty. Me? I think the class plays like a discount half-assed monk. Instead of blitzing, you iaijutsu after your GCDs with the occasional shorter GCDs for a double love tap. Kenki meter? Why does it exist? See shinten light up, hit it. Sure looks awesome stabbing things with a katana every 7 seconds, huh? Stabbing with a katana. Exciting.

My allusion if you didn't catch it is it plays too similarly to monk, with the exception that it's slower so you have the time to think about what you need to do for the same results of a monk. Monk's fast, flurry of hits, has forbidden chakra as an oGCD, has a CD that allows you to use a big attack every so often, has a dot effect that it needs to keep applied via combo action, a damage buff by combo action...Sounds a lot like samurai, but faster, doesn't it? I mean sure forbidden chakra doesn't technically build as fast as shinten because it's more reliant on rng, but it's the same principle. You can't blitz as often as you can iaijutsu, but the principle is roughly the same. So...Where does that leave samurai again, other than being a discount monk?

I mean if you like your job being so braindead easy you could train anyone to play it as well as a master within 10-15 minutes of instruction that's fine. But samurai right now is a wholly unrewarding experience that's almost a copy-paste of another job. As kaiten was the only thing that made it not, that's a problem with the job's fundamental design. I've argued this, that the job needs a proper rework, but what we've been given now until 6.2 or the next expansion, without any word on when a change is coming, people are angry and upset about being knee-capped and told several reasons why varying on the day.

But if we're going with boring oGCD's, shinten's boring as hell. Stab for damage. Exciting. Seeing as how kenki's useless, let's just remove it. Cut it out, throw it away, so we can just do away with the kenki gauge entirely, as the only reason the kenki gauge exists now is because of shinten. We can axe senei too. Just a fire-and-forget cooldown that does laughable damage for how often you get it. Or, maybe guren, because of how infrequently you even use it due to its requirements to be actually worth using? Or, what about meditate? Why does it even exist in its current form when you have literally no reason to use it as long as active combat is going on?

Because we're only allowed 3000 characters per post, here's the rest of it. Kaiten wasn't a big brain ability, you used it at specific points. But it had synergy with the rest of the kit to dictate what you can and can't do to maximize it, which maximizing it is technically only needed if you do savage or ultimate content because of the demands it puts on the player. Pulling out a piece of the machine puts samurai in the position it is now. The opposite, an overflowing of kenki which would've necessitated more kaiten use, would've been the problem if shinten was pulled instead. Hell, people hated midare setsugekka so much they ended up making a meme rotation that Square ended up having to buff the iaijutsus and shoha just to get people to use the intended rotation. You don't see that as a problem with how they set up the class, that they didn't even think about fixing something like that? It really comes across as a hack-job that they put together because someone complained their numbers were tiny and they wanted to be good too.

But I've fallen off my point. If they want to fix samurai, then the class needs a proper rework. Something that doesn't come out of left field, has time to be digested, and processed properly, and not before a major mid patch content drop. Guess what these changes were? The literal opposite of that. And that, is why people are angry. And many of us are staring at the gear set we invested time into collecting, that is time gated by a cap, by the way, for a role that lacks the feeling that it used to have.

It's completely fair to not play the game if your favorite job was gimped since that is a massive part of the fun factor. I'm lucky that I had other DPS jobs I enjoy besides SAM otherwise I'd probably be in the same boat. He has no obligation to give the game his time or money if it doesn't earn it

Almost like the game is a product that a company put out to ask us to spend money for it, and if we are not happy with said product and the company's treatment of its paying subscribers, we can stop spending money for it.

If the majority of SAM players don't like a change, they should say so that way Squeenix can listen and change it. This isn't even the first time this has happened. SCH and energy drain in ShB immediately comes to mind. Heck, NIN THIS EXPANSION had a bad change that a lot of ninja players didn't like that they reverted because of how vocal they were.
If a portion of a playerbase doesn't like something, make it known. That's the only way things can improve for you. I hope they listen to people that play samurai and give them what they want.

Absolutely. Especially since Yoshida explicitly asked for feedback since he probably was aware these changes would be quite controversial. Though I believe people will be more likely to post feedback if it is negative than positive, it is undeniable that this has shaken the samurai community. I imagine we will hear something about at the next live letter.

REVERT SAM 6.08 AND FUSE ALL THE USLESS OGCDS. SAM is and always will be my raiding class. I DONT USE AOE. STOP GIVING US 100 AOE BUTTONS.

isn't it kinda weird how they do hotfix balance changes for PvP, but then for PvE it takes them literal months to get ANYTHING out?
Dragoons and Astro's are already sweating for 6.2 since they want to make jobs more "controller friendly" (which is just stupid, 32 buttons is plenty for every job)
only really AST is controller unfriendly, but without making the cards automatic they can't fix it.
and from what i've heard, Dragoon is in an good spot.

To be fair if they did do away with the undraw action (that no one puts on their bar anyway), I doubt many of us would lose sleep over that. But yeah, 6.2 would scare me if I was either one of those classes. Samurais already got put on the block, those two are definitely next.

exactly this.
i was a PLD main and SAM as my secondary job. (was fairly good at it)
then i grew bored of PLD in endwalker, just feels off so i went SAM but my current static didn't need an melee, so i switched to red mage and never looked back and glad i switched concidering this.
when i heard Yoshi say "kaiten will be removed" i yelled "WHAT?!" out loud (was i think 5 or 6 AM) just complete shock that they would get rid of something so iconic to SAM.
sure Kaiten was an OGCD you would press all the time, but that was what made it good to use.
it became an part of the rotation, it linked massive damage and your job resource together, it felt like you were working up to something.
now it just feels like 1-2-3, 1-4-5, 1-6, midare and tada, low crit damage?! what?!

I remember the feeling in shadowbringers (likely why i also fell out of love with PLD) where my Midare hit for 200k (an absurd number, but it was just cool to see that 200k hit)
same with PLD before the stat squish, my confiteor hit for 80k on an crit/DH and it felt really good, not it hits for 20k orso, just felt bad.

Yoshi already stated DRG and AST are next for fine tuning and yeah, undraw is pointless, if it would give you back the draw (or an partial refund i guess) it would be a lot better (i stopped caring about AST after stormblood when they took the importance of cards away, back when an Bole would be an defensive card and melee were praying for a spire on them, now it's just "I DRAW! damage card for DPS!")

hope they don't gut the jobs too much, would be really depressing to see all jobs just go to hell because Yoshi wants to cater to the turbo casuals which the changes aren't even gonna affect.
that's why taking Kaiten away was so weird, i get that they want to start future proofing jobs, but save these changes for a big rework in 7.0, i get that they have difficulities balancing around Kaiten (lol) but again, keep these things till 7.0 and reveal the removal of Kaiten, which would be met with a lot of ???? but then also reveal the system replacing Kaiten.

Kaitens removal didn't change anything, outside of savage/ultimate you never need to use Kaiten, it feels good and looks good, but that's it for extreme and down content.

They have yet to address this mess up. For some reason they can acknowledge, apologize and address everything from RMT advertisements, to PvP hacks to lewd plates and housing lottery as well as buffing BLM PvP and also address BLM PvP overtuned and then adjust BLM PvP changes it in a very short time span... but not our SAM changes!!
