Kill all hope, then you will never be disappointed. :p But yeah, the chances of getting a house now and in the future are basically slim to none. Many asked for this lottery, and they got exactly what I expected them to get. Reap what you sow and all of that.
There is nothing wrong with the basic concept of the Lottery. It is a FAIR system. You are conflating the problem of there being not enough housing with the issue of distributing the plots in a fair manner. The Lottery was never meant to address the first issue. It was implemented to solve the second issue. Everyone now has the same chance to obtain a personal house.
To be fair, it doesn't really solve anything except removing the need to spam a placard for hours on end. People are still abusing the system, FC wise, and others are going to be even more paranoid about losing their house via the timer with how luck based getting another is now, so the amount of abandoned homes will shrink as well.
So I'm inclined to agree that hope and expectations should be lowered as they have the winners of all the Ishgard homes, so they'll be given away on the 16th and it will go back to a fight in the original four districts.
Be like me...... give up on housing the moment u knew it was limited...... its very comforting this freedom to not think about housing at all except apartment, please let players get more apartment...... i want to decorate more......
Check wards 19-24 in Mist, Lavender Beds, Goblet and Shirogane for vacancies if you're looking for a personal. There's still a chance to get those once the lottery resumes. I haven't checked all those wards on Coeurl yet but I do know we had several open up including a few mediums.

It sucks, went plot hunting and saw a nice newly open medium plot in Kugane and hung around to see how many other people came to scope it out and I think I'll resign myself to saying out in the elements.
This embodies how I feel and where I have been standing in game since the lottery broke. I have not left the front of the plot in hopes it will just suddenly be fixed before May 16th. I even got the notice that I was entered into the lottery again. I checked the placard, noped out of my refund again, sat back down in the park across from the house, and logged out. I have become one with the elements, me and the cold harsh reality. The snowman stands there mocking, he knows whats going on, he may have even planned this bug from the very start, but I will not let his blank stare that mirrors my own get the better of me.
I am not joking; My routine of the day is to log in each day over my zero-won plot. I run down to the marketboard and retainers, collect my Bom Bokos for the hour, and run back up to sit on the little hill over the plot. I look down from my vantage point into the plot at the red marker where my house could be, and sigh. Another hour passes and a few more Bom Bokos join my collection, while it starts raining. Little puddles of water pool at my feet, and while the umbrella does keep some of the rain away, I now have a wet shoulder. Like you, once a day I run to the placard and click it, just in case something changed, refuse the proffered refund, then put a red line through the date on the calendar. Inexorably but slowly we move towards the 16th and my hopes that once more the development team don't let us down by falling into a sake induced stupor that results in the complete loss of all results.
I'm still convinced the reason all those wards are fc only is so fcs get the bigger houses first, and that's it.
I came to similar conclusion after some time thinking about this too. As of now I'm seeing tons of the larges/mediums in 1st - 18th ward are already owned by FC folks, leaving almost all the small plots vacant. I'm kinda curious if they will eventually lift up the restriction to all those small plots in "FC-only"-wards after a while.
Did they ever mentioned anything like that before anywhere, like in LL?
i just "love" how every single person claiming to want a house for housing just conveniently ignores apartments or FC private rooms. sure they arent as big as an actual house, and doesnt have an exterior garden either.. but to say it doesnt exist is just hogwash
Housing in this game is one of the biggest jokes lmao.
Shouldn't need a lottery system to own a virtual house LOL.
Housing has always been meant more for FCs over personal, hence why in any new wards they've opened in the past, it was only open to FCs and relocations first, and then opened to personal housing later, beginning in SB (I grabbed mine in 3.3 or 3.4 when it was still a free for all at 3am before the change when FCs had trouble grabbing houses, fun times.) At this point I just want the devs to stop shell FCs/greedy multi-accounters from grabbing housing instead of FCs that don't belong to their main FC so they can reap the benefits of housing too :/
They've also mentioned that in FC-only wards, should a few lotto periods go and houses aren't bought up they'll open it up: "Wards can be individually designated as first come, first serve/lottery or free company/personal housing. It’s also possible, for instance, to change leftover plots in a free company-only ward to allow them to be purchased as personal estates." (source, bottom of the post) and on the housing info posted on 3/28: "* Methods of purchasing land and/or purchase availability may vary by World in future updates." so I'd imagine on a smaller patch like 6.18 or something after the lotto stuff is fixed and working, they may change the designation if no houses are bought in FC only wards. I do recall them saying they had the ability to change it on the backend without needing a maint from lotto to FCFS, so I wonder if it's possible to change the designation from FC-only to no restrictions without a maint as well. If so, give it a couple of lotto periods once they commence again in a couple weeks :D
The new lottery system isn’t turning out to be the golden egg some thought it would be it seems. Oh well, off to maintain my two mansions.
I'd say it's the Golden Egg the player base needed, but not the one people hoping for less competition for a plot and who felt clicking a placard for hours or days on end made them more worthy of having a house wanted. We all got one try per character on each world. FCs all got one bid per character in that FC. Greater participation does equal lower chances of getting the prize, we all knew that going in. We also knew that the chance of getting a plot would decrease significantly as time passed, just like the Old Days of placard clicking the exceedingly few abandoned plots available.
I agree with the previous posters who say to check out apartments. Sure, they don't have a yard or garden like a house, but they're a whole ot better than nothing and are actually quite versatile if you take the time. I've enjoyed the hell out of decorating mine and use them daily. The 100 item limit in an apartment is actually pretty good. You're not going to get a much better space to item ratio than that, unless you're trying for an ultra-detailed space and would be blocking off half a small house to get an apartment sized area with 200 items....and at that point you're decorating an apartment, not a house.....
Yeah I'm probably gonna just give up my house and toss my outdoor furniture at this point. Ishgard is where I've wanted to live since Heavensward.
I only kept the one I have for the garden and the relocation bonuses, but since the important bonus is gone and I have four friends who don't use their gardens... I mean no point stressing over needing to stay subbed for a house in a zone I don't want to be in in the first place I guess
Shame it can only go to an FC if I do leave though. Since the ward I'm in is FC locked now :/
Its not the lottery system thats the problem. Personally i feel the bidding period is way too long other then and the fact they made 75% fc house promoting players to either make a bogus fc to have a better chance for a house or to make it easier for people to buy and sell for teal money since fc housing was basically the work around for people that do that. Simple fact is whether you click a placard for hrs on end or buy into the lotto its just rng anyhow. You just feel a fake sense of greater control clicking a placard.
At first, I put a little hope on the lotery in order to finally grab a medium plot for my FC. But unfortunately, I lost the 1st time because another FB placed a bid (on last day) on the M plot I bid on first day (there was a M without any bid just besides but that's the game...).
With the timer up to 16th May, more and more people will fulfill the requirements for a FC house, so I think it will be very complicated to grab a M on the next lottery period.
I don't complain that much because I'm lucky to own a S for my FC since 2017, but still, what a missed opportunity ! I lost my first house last year due to a break and I had to enter the misery of the placard war, it wasn't fun at all...I prefer lottery because it's nice to just put your bid and go.
But in a few weeks, like many posters said here, it will be a nightmare to bid on a plot due to the high concurrence for a few plots.
I really hope SE will consider to open FC wards to individuals eventually, because yeah, apartments can be a start but if you really like to garden and to decorate, it's quite limited.
Many people are members of a FC, but most of the time, they can't have the fun with gardening and all if they are not the master or really close to that master. Before 2017, I was on a big FC on my server and I had never touched gardening or airships/submarines before making my own FC with some friends (who all stopped playing, unfortunately).
By the way, could somebody tell me if you can send more airships and submarines from a M house ? Currently on my S, is 4 ships that can be send. If it's the same number on M, I will thinking on just keeping my small eventually. (I looked up on internet but I found contradictory informations. Thanks in advance !).
Nobody ever abandoned a house because they thought getting another was easy
Kupo, I need a lottery fix. <3 kupo
Aye, partly tongue in cheek, but much not so. Mine consists of logging within the little park across for the plot. I always sit on one of the fence pillars because it was kind of relaxing to run along the fence while waiting in queue when initially awaiting the results. After the news I haven't played much besides checking the placard, I wasn't going too, but the temptation before and even after the date was given still didn't stop me from checking just in case things may be different today. Maybe they just didn't update the news yet, but alas the same message 0 won one bet placed on the lot. I also refuse the refund every time just in case this might let me purchase the plot whenever, (please not too much sake yoshi p and team! I know its golden week please have your fun but don't at the very least lose the results somehow) however long it may take. I than also check to see if my retainers sold anything, replace the items that have, and wait a bit, usually tab out for a little bit to look up news for final fantasy on the jp side because there news is usually posted quicker. I get a bit distracted looking up other stuffs like currently seeing if anyone is talking about something silly on the forums. Tab back in toy with the idea of doing some of my dailies or the wondrous tales inevitably come to the conclusion I really don't wish to play right now, and log back out right in the same spot I logged in.
I did go in to test stuffs in a dungeon today as well as see if the animation for Continuation looked strange after realizing I never got my level 70 weapon to even get into Malikah's Well because I was leveling in Bozja/palace of the dead/heaven on high. Went through with the trusts, felt a bit sad at the end like I had been leaving friends behind in my absence, but inevitably logged out afterwards. I know it is just a game and all, but it just stinks. I just wish to decorate with my friends in our fc like we were going to weeks ago it feels. Was it? I know my friend on another server was doing something similar, 'guarding my house in protest' she said. It is adorable, but it also sad.
(an aside my friend who put in for a house on their server can not put the money inside of his fc storage, so I am assuming they locked the currency for those who did win and got the refund so they do not spend it. which did give me a small amount of hope. Though the whole reason he wanted to put the gil in there was so he didn't spend it, but this solution square came up with works just as well.)
I have a private house and an apartment. I'm waiting on the lottery to get fixed so my FC can get a house and I can decorate both it and my FC room.
I just have a housing decoration addiction. Please save me, it's stolen so much of my mental health...
I'm VERY inclined to agree with you... it's just that as a Hrothgar (or, in the past, a Roegadyn), I weep because it's never spacious enough for me T_T
I weep with you, Brother-in-Spirit! I decided to use my alt's apartment to make a hang out space for our Femroe LS and try as I might, I just couldn't make the two-floor thing work. Some creativity with white partitions, arched marble partitions, and chirurgeon's curtains made for a spacious feeling area even accounting for the amount legroom Femroe's need when sitting.
We currently have no way of knowing exactly how many plots went without bids, unless you wanna check every single house manually. I wanna say that there's a few more plots bidless than people realize, but I really haven't checked.
I truly hope everyone who wants a house can eventually get one, but I'll never agree with anyone saying that FCFS is any better than the lottery. It's still just a coin toss up whether you get it or not, except instead of going up against 12 bots in daily 8 hour clicking sprees for over three months, you just place your bid and go do literally anything else than placard click spamming.
It's kind of fascinating, really. For the longest time I saw consistent calls for instanced player housing. As it happens, that's something Yoshi-P is on record as being firmly against due to wanting to maintain a 'neighbourhood feel'. Despite various other MMO's respecting players enough to have instanced housing and the ability to take a break for months and come back to still have one's house and furniture intact...FFXIV is pushing ahead with the non-instanced route.
I didn't see many people call for a lottery system to be implemented and when they did it seemed to get a mixed reaction. I've seen some people call for a monthly rent to be implemented so I wonder if that'll be the next bit of feedback embraced in order to try and 'fix' the system.
