I'm just here to listen to y'all cry.
Yeah i played for an hr when expansion dropped and was to tired so i logged and went to bed. Tried for 10 hrs today and couldn’t get through the que once.i have no issue with long wait times, but the ques are broken.
So when do the children stop blaming a game company for supply chain issues in hardware production?
Never. It's my experience, that the people white knighting are the same people that can be found sitting in town with a macro on to use an emote every so often, or running into a wall to avoid having to deal with said queues and 2002s then come to white knight when the people playing by the rules get fed up and vent. It'll be nice if Squeenix decides to go back to the rolling resets to get rid of those folks so they can sit and suffer like the rest of us, or god forbid let the queues go faster.
I mean OP is level 81. They've obviously been able to play a little bit lol
When everyone stops try to be first-loggers during launch
Relax! We'll be fine!
Just for people's information. Supply chain and hardware has nothing to do with the game client being forced to crash due to time outs with the lobby while in queue, thereby putting the client at the back of the queue when they log in again. This is a software problem not a hardware problem.
For example there could be hardware reasons and network congestion reasons for why the lobby server gives a 2002 error while a client is in the queue. At that point it is possible for the client and server to wait and try to re-establish a connection again after a few seconds or a few minutes, remembering where the client was for a certain duration. The fact that the client is shut down and forgotten when the connection breaks is a software design choice. A choice that might not really be a good choice because it results in these threads.
Even if doing it the other way resulted in longer queues they would actually be stable and not "stable" until a 2002 error.
tl;dr hardware is not a good reason to explain how the game handles 2002 errors
This shouldn't have been the playerbase's problem to solve in the first place. Do not further kid yourself into believing you are "doing the right thing."
The right thing would have been to rent servers, throw money at the problem or plan ahead in some way or another. This was foreseeable. I'm sure the creative direction of the game had nothing to do with the hardware concerns. They work hard. They're the reason we put money into the game, but the money does not go back into it proportionately. The hardware concerns were ignored or the people who make those decisions figured it was not worth it.
I actually mildly resent the people who are responsible for making this a playerbase issue. The people who have played this game have been kind to me. It pisses me off that they're getting a bad rep for being selfish for not wanting to deal with an over hour long queue just to take a particularly long dump. Give me a break. This is a server/hardware issue, not a question of ethics for us. If anything, the ethics are lost on the people who've made so much and decided it was okay to force us to put up with this.
The launch was almost 24 hours ago. Who are the "first-loggers?" There has been a consistent 4K+ login-queue the entire day, other than reports of like 7 AM.
Figured I'd choose one of these to post in.
If I am paying for a service, I expect that service to provide. If I am having a bad day as it is, I will probably bitch if I do not have access to the service I am paying for.
I'm kind of used to this shit though so it's kind of an over my head type of deal. I expected long ass log-in queues. Just seems toxic to tell consumers that they're 'entitled' ... because what, they're not entitled to get what they pay for? Lol.
Now, onto my own personal dilemma -
I got to position number #1 in the queue and got hit by a 4004 error. I got back in within the same thirty seconds-ish and I was 3000+ in queue.
ggwp, fuckin' broke me! I'll try again tomorrow.
Have not seen anyone defend the 2002 just only pointing out the company explained why you are seeing the 2002 error...... however been seeing the same saying they arnt sure why there no save que spot if you log back in with in a x amount of time
Yoshi himself posted in the Lodestone with an update. https://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodes...965cd4dd0ac3af
Basically the TL-DR is: they currently have more players trying to log in than the game has ever had, ever.
Still, I agree with most that 10-hour waits while being lobby kicked to the back of queue repeatedly should not be considered an acceptable condition for a paid service. Blame Covid, supply chains, increased new/returners, blame the tooth fairy and Santa Claus all they want, but it shouldn't make it an acceptable state. They do at least appear to be giving an honest effort to deliver the service though. Tbh I wouldn't want to be working there right now, they're prob freaking the F out more than the players are lol.
so it looks like my personal ordeal is over, after my last post ive been booted twice again but in an act of mercy i managed to get back in and keep my place in line and currently at 371. to reiterate my issue: its not the long queues that are the problem, its the booting back to end of the line that is the problem
*edit* forgot to mention, its been just a little over 6 hours
Play on a smaller server
Prime time Friday when everyone gets off work will of course be worse than a 1am launch and it will be more tomorrow because weekend. I know plenty of people who can't stay up all night to do first log ins, the majority of people need to log in during normal hours.
Yeah lol That's kinda a wild statement rn, play on a smaller server... They're all full. All full to capacity and have queues. In one of the Lodestone notes, it even mentioned they opened up the "Visit Another World Server" via the right-click on the character selection, but when you try it, it says the World Visit Service isn't available.
2002 was a pretty bad year....
Theres an old saying, that is as old as online Multiplayer itself:
"Never play on Patch Day!"
I cant remember a single MMORPG that really got a smooth start for a new Launch or Expansion. I dont think it will be possible without literally doubeling the Servers just for the first week, which is of course an insane investement without and payback in the end.
Having waited through the long login process I was greeted by a lvl 80+ in Limsa with "OMG another sprout(I am lvl 70)! You are not allowed to log in to my (expletive) game during early access! It is for 80+ only! It's your fault the servers are melting down!
Yeah charming. This mess is really bringing out the best in people.
When the game does wrong I’ll be the first to voice my concerns, but this is a technical issue. It’s not gonna be a issue forever just calm down and be patient
Never play on patch day! MMO newbies are cute, really :3
Yeah that advice becomes just lovely when they get to endgame and find that you get maybe a day or two to learn and clear EX trials in PF before all the decent parties require Duty Complete (and you end up having to jump on the "clear for one" bandwagon just to stay freakin sane)
I’m perfectly happy sitting in a queue when an expansion releases, but I’m not happy when I keep getting booted from the queue after 5 minutes, then relog to be even further back in the queue, only to get booted again.
I guess the white knighting will stop once the Karen army finally get to speak to the manager. I am surprised that after all the hype for EW, after the playerbase explosion on 2021, and after the very public problems with adding servers people actually managed to be caught off guard with server issues on patch day. Amazing.
In a perfect world it would be great if we all got to log on with ultra stable servers and no queue but this isn't a perfect world. It will calm down reasonably quickly and it wasn't hard to predict the first few days would be rough. Sometimes we have to queue for popular things, it is what it is.
Those people who avoid auto-logout with shennanigans deserve to be forced to only listen to Simon Cowell's music forever, that's how scummy that is.
I can’t even queue. It won’t let me.
Love waiting hours in a queue for an EARLY ACCESS i payed for just to repeatedly keep being kicked over and over again just to be at the back of the line.
Started off at 2.5k NOW 9k+ in queue
If the mass influx of players happened at launch I would accept this reasoning. They know what there subscriber and active player levels are. They have launched multiple expansions and have seen the numbers in the past to make a logical estimation as to what would happen. This is a multi-billion dollar company this is not Yoshi-P and a small dev team. Matter of fact in there apology they stated there are 25 million subscribers and the log in servers will only allow 17000 players per log in server. Is you just assume for simple math there is 1 log in server. This would mean the queue would have to cap out about 1470 for every subscriber to log in once. You can take this further as it appears the log in servers are tied to the data center which totals 8 data centers. Assuming all servers are distributed evenly (in reality they aren't) this would still mean each data center queue would have to cap 183 times for all 25 million subscribers to log in once. I don't work for SE so I do not have all the exact details but there is a simple example of what I can do and where you can see issues using the simple numbers we have been provided. The actual issue most players are running into though is the way the fail safe was implemented. For some reason when the threshold is met it begins kicking people out of the queue rather than preventing access to the queue at max. When you are kicked out of the queue you now have the issue of getting back into the queue with in the allotted time SE decided upon to keep your spot in queue. These are all issues that could have been prevented and should have been prevented specially when the game was delayed for QA purposes.
Have to agree with OP a bit, getting kicked with the 2002 error after being in queue for hours is not very fun and i do wonder why they didn't add a "keep your queue spot" for like 5 min if you get the 2002 error.
Edit: From 5000 in queue to 3500 and i get error again.
I'm 100% fine with waiting in queue to get in but this 2002 error is just ... sigh..
Not a comment that's FFXIV specific but there are a large number of people who simply see 'consumers' as outspoken vocal minority babies that should just burn their money and be happy that the fire was supplied.
And to be fair, sometimes consumers can expect a bit too much or have unruly expectations. It's just baffling to me that people who aren't being paid will defend a company to the teeth when something is blatantly going wrong. We're allowed to be pissed off with a service if it's not working as intended.
A long waiting queue is entirely expected but telling us to 'appreciate' constant error codes and being kicked to the back of line requires a certain suspension of disbelief on my end. I suppose some people just have time and money to burn.
It's also not unreasonable to want to vent that frustration, especially if you're particularly passionate or have expectations. I suppose having an emotional reaction to something makes you a petulant manchild nowadays! How toxic. :3
If people don't complain things don't get fixed. Also a warning and apologizing is not them fixing the issue it's them not caring. SE has done this in the past as well and the fact they are doing it now while they have the highest subscriber count yet is idiotic. A massive number of people moved from WoW to FF as they were fed up with Blizzard not addressing the issues they were complaining about. The server issue is FF's example of something that has been ignored for years that has been complained about. The class changed even show this, they have changed skills to charge system over a timed buff because due to server issues people could not fit x number of skills with in the duration. If you have played War, Drk, Mch, and Mnk among probably some other classes you would have know about this problem for a while. This is nothing new that sprung up today this is an issue that has existed since ARR and has been ignored.
You're allowed to be pissed off... other people are also allowed to disagree with some of the stances these pissed off people will take. That's what baffles me, always the mindset of 'if you're not as pissed as i am and don't entirely agree with me you're a corporate puppet'.
Honestly its because a decent servers have been made in 10 years almost no business buys the latest ones. Plus when the growth incresese and new expansion drops both new and old players get on.
To be expected yes, but they also adding a new servers for a new area which is costly but needed to be done. I'm sure after that they will update the current servers to new gen+ add words to fix it.
Was I angry to get 2k qs then lobby errors after hitting 156 sure but it wasnt that big of a deal.
Not white knighting just being honest.
Oddly enough, I logged on at around 7 am CST on Friday to a queue of 35 on Zalera. At 7:20 am on Friday the queue was lower than that (Fantasia requires a log out). I logged on to Faerie around 9 am to a queue of about 50, and 15 minutes later I logged back in to a queue that was under 20 (Fantasia again).
This morning I logged on to Gilgamesh around 5:30 am to a queue under 50.
The only time I've had a problem with queue of about 2,000 (and a single disconnect) was Friday evening around 9 pm CST ... prime time, so to speak.
Your experience will vary. OP's use of the term "White Knight" in the derogatory sense, appears to be based on people whose experiences are different from theirs. Use of the term is deliberately meant to stifle opposing comments.
I see a lot of people saying 'they should have seen this coming'. They did. In the same way a stalled car sees the train coming.
They saw the unprecidented growth numbers. They admitted, not just to us but to shareholders, they would attempt to acquire equipmented. That equipment just doesn't exist, not at any price.
Unfortunately, the Pandemic is still causing very real consequences. It's not an excuse, no matter how tired you are of hearing it, it's a reason. Many industries, not just video games, are having issues. The fact of the matter is they're likely on a list to buy servers. Why did other games get their servers? Simple, they were either higher up the list or likely had those servers waiting to be repurposed from other projects.
They said that if the servers hit 17000 log in requests at once it would give people a 2002 error. That's what we are seeing. However, the grace period to reconnect seems broke as some people manage to recover and log in while others end up at the back of the line. That needs fixed. But outside of that issue the servers are incredibly stable for a launch.
2k queues is lucky. 7k in Europe atm. Getting kicked after waiting for 1 hour and 1 and a half hours is ridiculous. I don't get why people aren't complaining. Do they think things are getting better when more players try to access the game in 3 days and they hace no EA excuse? Oh, right, they don't care because SE is never wrong.
