This will likely not be fixed till they can spin up more VMs. Which require more hardware.

They said they have been buying server hardware at overpriced rates.
It's just not that easy to get a high-end Server that can handle 10m continuous connections without SE placing ads in the game.

So is that "many deaths of FFXIV" thread still going? Feel like we could all use a good laugh after waiting in queues of 4k+ only to eat a 2002

About 3-4 logins before I got in the queue. Currently 3842.

Not as bad as I thought it would be, but I took care of all my adulting for the weekend, so this downtime is making me feel unproductive. I need a new book or manga to get into.

wait times of 30 to 45 min I could understand but wait times of over an hour with people losing place in the queue because of issues on their end. A bit much don't you think.

You saw a large increase in your player base before the new expansion. You knew in advance how many subscribers you had... You had additional time to add equipment. This was a complete slap in the face to everyone who preordered. The initial launch occurred as promised at 4am est... and there was a 1500 person queue. I didn't try most of the day because of work, but I logged in this evening, peek hours I'm sure... wasted 2 hours trying to connect because the Lobby broke twice starting with 3500 people... it got down below 1500 (which is still another 20 minutes...) but crashed. and I was thrown to the back of the queue... I'm sure many other players are dealing with the same thing. Hopefully Square Enix will do something to recognize the patience of the player community like reward them a mount or something they planned to sell on the store.

Coming next on the mog station.
For $35 bump, you to the front of the queue 10 uses only.

They will likely do rolling server restarts for people avoiding auto log-outs.
They did that in Shadow Bringers.

Try to continue to be patient. Many share in your frustration. Myself included. It truly is a theme park MMO. Some are currently enjoying the rides. Some are outside kicking the dirt. But we will all enjoy EW and some point.

This is incorrect. Almost every other launch in my 20 years of being apart of does not randomly kick you from the queue and have you wait back at the end of the line, unless the full server goes down. In this situation, servers are up, people are waiting 4+ hours to get through the queue, then randomly every hour or two getting errored out and being sent back to the end of the line. That is not how to run a queue, that is not how to run a launch. As much as I love SE, this is their second worst launch. (Raubahn EX takes the cake).

There was time to mitigate this, semiconductor issues aside. They chose not to - they mention the 2002 error, they needed to produce a system to hold your place if you get that error. They failed to do that, and as a result, some people have lost a full day of trying to play.

You, me, nor anyone else have no knowledge what they did or did not choose to do. In EVERY mmo, there is congestion and issues like this on launch and everyone always rails on how it's the worst launch they've ever seen. We may not get to play today. Oh well. That's life.

Another incorrect assertion. They outright talk about error 2002, they know what causes it. They delayed the expansion by two weeks and had more than acceptable time to impliment systems, or could have delayed it again until they did. They opted not to. White knights are typically the ones actively playing and/or circumventing the afk system to begin wtih, so please, tell me again what my MMO experiences have been when I've played multiple MMOs, with mutliple launches and issues and can quite clearly confirm this is SE's second worst launch to date.

They were unable to. That is different to opted not to.

We were told months ago that they knew this was an issue and they could not acquire the hardware to fix it.

The two-week delay was for improving the software, not installing hardware that they presumably are still trying to get.

I'm not willing to wait 6 months to a year for them to acquire hardware. You all can still play the expansion, its day one. Things will drop off quickly.

Literally every MMO has had issues like this. Ya'll have incredibly selective memory if you think otherwise.

Again, they had the ability to fix it - stop your white knight or log out so someone else can play. It's easily done, WoW literally just did such a thing where if you are booted from the queue, you do not lose your place. Keep simping bud.

I didn't lose my place in queue. I got dropped at 700 after an hour and a half and rejoined at 700

We were also told they had mitigation methods (other server selection from dropdown list) and a reserved spot in queue as long as we do not hit cancel, yet those did not happen. 6 hours of queue and being kicked to the end of the line is unjustifiable. Stop.

Naoki Yoshida says the delay was to ensure adequate quality assurance testing in the final days of development, keywords: QUALITY ASSURANCE TESTING
i agree, they had the option to delay in order to have a smooth release and avoid 90% of the complains they currently have

Anyone else feel a bit guilty playing knowing there's someone that can't get in? I wish I could enjoy the expansion guilt free.

Yes, but it isn't your fault. That's the part that people need to get over. We've been paying our subs and pre-orders. We contributed as much as we could towards the development of this game as we can. We hype it up, make the community welcoming. Somehow, the people on this forum have convoluted getting other people into the server as our responsibility, and anyone who criticizes the lack of action (not even necessarily the lack of foresight, considering you'd have to be a total idiot to not know if nothing was done: this would happen.) as being critical of the creative people who worked on this game, and not the people who simply didn't do enough or decided it wasn't worth it to make the decisions necessary to be prepared. Our grief was on the table.

At 4:30 AM Hawaii Time, the queue was 43. When I logged in later in the day, the queue was almost 3000 and I was able to watch a recorded movie and take a shower while waiting to enter the game. I decided to play SWTOR for the evening. Now I am trying to login again. The queue started at about 2700, but it is moving faster than earlier today. Patience people!!
