Because of the English localization team's stupid decision to change all the spell suffixes to numbers that make no sense.
Like many past installments in the FF series, the devs have chosen to "skip" certain suffixes in favor of ones they like, so this new spell is "Holyga." Not nearly as weird to skip over a nonsense suffix, but of course the localization team changes all "-ga" spells into "III" so here we are.
Adding numbers instead of the classic spell suffixes is forever one of the more ridiculous decisions that they seem to want to cling to until the bitter end. What's next, are we going to jump from Glare III to Glare VI? Holy III to Holy X?
Why ast healing spells not only have less mp but have faster casts -_-
That kind of got talked about when they were discussing Black Mage stuff. The High Fire/Blizzard 2 stuff specifically. Something about how they'd never gone past -ja before, so they'd be the ones to get to decide what the next suffix would be and kind of panicked at the pressure and opted to not and just call it High Fira/Blizzara. So unless they finally come up with one, expect to see more things become High X.
Well, Holyra sounds weird so... yeah.....
I like the numbers because in the future you will get "Holy over 9000". :)
Seriously, i don't really care whether it is a number or a suffix. Numbers have an advantage because you only need to look at the number and you know instantly which spell is the stronger one. When you see a suffix like "ga" then this is not clear and you have to look at the details of the spell. Numbers are more intuitive, IMHO.
Cheers
AAaaaaaAaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, I wish they made Fists of Wind a passive...
Still salty that we essentially lost it when they made GL passive.
Compare to whm that is just check cure 2 to benefic 2 its same potency but benefic has even faster cast
The part that still confuses me the most about it is that there was a concerted effort to correct all re-releases of the games in the series that had previously changed them due to console limitations. At the time of FFXIV 2.0's release, the only game not to have the suffixes either originally or via re-release in English was VII because it didn't have any sort of remake yet. Like I basically figure there's someone at the NA offices in charge of maintaining the consistency, and I don't know how FFXIV got away with the numbers.
This is the exact reason everyone hates them. Bunch of people seeing "Fire II" and thinking it must be better than Fire because it has a number on the end, when they serve completely different functions. Well that and the fact that it's completely un-Final Fantasy.
I don't need 2 seperate keybinds for Summon Seraph + Consolation anymore, wonderful !
I don't have a preference myself, but this reason you mentioned seems to be what causes people to often fall into the 'Cure III on a single target' trap, but i cannot blame them for that misunderstanding.
Woah! Thank god they doubled Raging Strikes' cooldown on BRD! Wouldn't want them to have too much fun!
Hrm. Blizzard 2 is finally getting a use/purpose separate from Freeze. That'll take some hotbar adjusting. Like most I had already deleted B2 basically... now I gotta find somewhere for Freeze instead. I know we're losing one button from Eno, but, Freeze isn't quite the same as a set-and-forget button... Might take some shuffling. Buu.
Other than that, I think I like the sound of BLM changes. Huzzah for a timer increase.
This lets it line up with raid buffs easier, a net buff in the end assuming optimal usage, as for the 60 second media tour version it might have been too powerful? no clue
The other bard changes are amazing imo, 3 charges on bloodletter/rain of death, shadowbite changing up the aoe rotation a bit, and finally bards are no longer deaf and get buffed by their songs
The potencies and scaling all work differently. You shouldn't be sure of a nerf until you actually play it. Whispering Dawn has been overpowered at lower levels compared to higher levels so with the stat squish it might have been overpowered all of the time.
Hard agree. B2 being useful after, what, 70 levels... wait, was it ever useful? That's gonna be interesting. I like that AOE seems to be getting dynamic again. BLM always feels more satisfying when you are exploding multiple mobs at once.
Also THANK YOU SE for making Eno passive! One less button for me to accidentally press lmao.
It seems I'm not the only one puzzled by just how little effort seems put into a lot of jobs, especially the healers.
>dragoon literally got no new buttons or changes apart from animations and firstmind thrust and a qol change in botd being a trait.
>healers are getting potency BUFFS on their healing despite downscaling. Sage is a 1 button spam to nobody's surprise given its 80% shb sch. Even more 1 button spam
>despite numerous complaints and yoshida himself stating put feedback on these forums, drk still has no stacks on blood weapon and living dead still not fixed. just because it might be strongest potency doesnt make it mechanically fun which is more important
>unless I'm misreading, nope, heat blast does not have stacks either. Mch ping still punishing
>role skills are still that instead of buttons unique to the jobs
>paladin's health regen is so busted its not going to die unless its either doom, one hit kill or a disgustingly strong tankbuster during their sword phase
I did note however, bard FINALLY can get buffed by their own songs again. If the songs were strong enough to actually see the difference without a parser, which they arent. At least parsers will like it
Why they didn't give heal potency to Carve and Spit while abyssal drain get both HP and MP? Seems weird stuff there...
WAR gets healing on Shake It Off, while DRK still has the worst party defence skill, which is also latest of them all.
I see how it is...
SMN still seems boring to play now so I guess I'm going with BLM for the story
I'm really not one to nitpick and rant much. But sometimes some things in this world confuse me.
Like the division created between shield and regeneration healers. The same expansion this divide is made... WHM, the job most known for pure healing, gets extra charge to one of its single target shields and gains another ST shield. Sorry, this is kinda funny.
I can't wait to hop online and change all bars for SMN. Should have saved a screenshot of the old layout.
I am VERY pleased my main job Dancer hasn't changed really at all. I won't need to really change my rotation, and the new actions will just slip right in seamlessly.
Overall I like the Ast changes. Little sad we're losing Sleeve Draw, but we'll see how that works. Little worried about the amount of skills. I'm gonna have to shuffle around my already somewhat overfull bars, but I am sure I'll make it work.
I'm not really a fan of the gap closer that's present on NIN's second Raiju follow-up.
It makes sense for the first to be a gap closer as Raiton is frequently saved for when you have to peel off the boss due to mechanics, but having a second just limits how much flexibility you have with your positioning.
I looked at the GNB guide and saw that every move was getting a potency nerf. At first I was concerned that SE was about to take the wind out of my sails, but then I looked at other job guides. Everyone's getting hit with the nerf bat. Guessing that has to do with the stat squish. Everything is fine.
It's been that way for the entire expansion. Diurnal AST was always WHM but with cheaper heals and better oGCD's. It's been straight up the superior healer for most of Shadowbringers after the rework, yet WHM's have been clinging to the idea that WHM is somehow the heal powerhouse. WHM isn't even that good as the beginner healer, its mana economy is terrible below 50 while AST gets mana from cards, has Essential Dignity and unlocks AspHelios much earlier than Medica II.
while using your mana and also being a dps loss if your shield doesn't break, dark knight being punished seems like to be a theme considering living dead too.
