Please Square-Enix solve the housing problem with Island Sanctuaries

I came from ESO, not WOW. And in that game I had a lot of homes. Was so easy, with real money or no money at all (a big house is a reward for a set of long quests). Now, in FFXIV, the housing system is a disaster. Period.

And I know the housing lottery system will be as bad as today. We'll continue having much much more people trying to buy than lots available.

How can you solve this? Easy: copy the ESO system and create invididual stances, just like inn rooms, but this time with the Island Sanctuaries system.

Let us gardening there and sell us, with gil money of course, the right to build: 500.000 for building a small room (as an apartment), 3.000.000 for a small house (as today) and more for a medium house or maybe a farm.

I love this game, but it's unfair don't have access to all the game can offer just because you don't have time for clicking a placard for hours.

I've been active with housing for a while now, spending several hundred of hours and decorating multiple houses. Reading all these topics here, i can understand the frustration of people wanting their own home to toy around with for a few hours but then they just sit on it and do nothing with it because they lack time or patience to actually build something.
Also, housing isn't really all that much fun if you have no one to share your work with, it is tedious and time consuming, when ever i finish a build, i am eager to show it to people in my FC and discuss it or get new ideas, or just try to invite random people to come and look, maybe finding new customers or friends that way.

I can only suggest to people like you , find an FC and start with your own room in there or try to buy an apartment, you can also share a garden with your FC, or work on an FC house together, which is a lot more fun than furnishing your own house once and alone anyway.
I agree that the way of aquiring a house is not ideal, but giving everyone an instanced house would destroy the social aspect of the housing system, this is an MMO after all and that also applies to housing.

Would be interesting if it did but I will say the lottery system ain’t it. The old way was okay but due to the volume we need a new solution or system. We can’t just keeping adding more wards. Best of luck

There are barely any folks roaming the wards, the only « social » aspect is people writing a note on your golden book, or inviting people like friends/guildmates to come visit which can also be done in ESO with its instanced housing.

There’s literally no genuine reason to not have this feature, besides selfish ones. Notably from housing dealers, may it be gil or RMT.

(and extra work for the devs but could be profitable down the line)

So you put up with an awful design and people should waste time on it too ? With no guarantee to have anything at all ?

If I was in your shoes I’d be happy for newcomers to not deal with crap stuff like this.

I didn't say it is a good system, but if your only solution is to give everyone an instanced house, might as well delete the neighborhoods which would be sad, and no matter how many more plots they could add, the demand is much higher.

Also because you see no one running around in housing areas just shows how "useless" housing actually is to the rest of the game, i knew several people who managed to get their small plot and now they do nothing with it because they are too lazy for it and say it is too much work.

I like how owning a house is a real prestige thing in the game, same as getting a really rare mount to show off or defeating the hardest bosses for weapon skins. I don't like the way to acquire one, the lottery will just make it worse for people who REALLY want to get a house, because the competition will be even higher.
I would add an auction as well, then you have three ways of getting a house instead of just clicking the placards. (and don't cry me a river about people buying gil for real money from botters, it is not my job to fix botting or ban those)

I just really have a problem with orphaned houses that sit empty because their owner doesn't do anything with it, knowing how happy they were when they finaly got their home and now they gave up on it.

Only gardening and raising animals+minions running around, from what I understood.

Still it could be a base to evolve into proper housing, if it works. And I’m sure many players would be happy with it.

Housing is also probably one of the reason someone won’t switch from ESO to FF, because in ESO not only you can own multiple houses but you can do a lot of cool things with their furniture system.

Having one system doesn’t mean they would delete the others, especially if it could mean the anger of players and FCs.

Allowing you and others to keep your houses with the neighborhood feature as a « prestige »

So housing is useful to you but not others when it doesn’t support your argument against instanced housing.

I mean we literally have players who made great houses in other games, come here, and are unable to do anything due to the access and supply issues. Sure you may have some lazy ones, but I wouldn’t say it’s the norm when I visit houses and wards.

More often than not I’d say it’s people buying a house and going bankrupt with barely any furniture.

Could you give me an example of a really impressive looking house or room in ESo, i have only played through the main story part when it came out and found the game extremely boring, i am not wanna trash talk it, i just didn't get into it.

FF14 housing allows for a vast variety of designs , from medieval to hyper modern.

I assume the basic system is the same as in FF14, you just put your furniture into your house but ESo has a very "rough" and rustic style, not as clean as FF14.

And I can assure you that some houses on ESO are impresive, with big statues, effects, clouds, etc. It's some of the very few aspects where ESO is superior to FFXIV (like you, I find the game pretty boring and that's why I left... I played for a year and only played because of my friends there).

In terms of neighborhoods, I said you can keep those for FC. In fact, one of the issues of ESO system is they don't have "guild (FC) houses" as FFXIV has. With housing instances for every player who can afford it (with game money, not real one), FFXIV would be almost perfect for me.

One of the things I like most about housing is the neighborhood aspect as it gives me the feel of being an actual resident of Eorzea. Zoning into a housing instance that's just me in front of my house with no others around me, or worse, loading directly into a house I can't leave, would take away that charm.

If we have, or have had, a house, we've experienced the empty ward thing, so I get the argument for instanced housing. To be honest, I'd LOVE to have a small individual instance that would let me pick the plot and then the game would auto-populate the rest with area-appropriate houses and NPCs.

Sounds like your motivation isn't the same as everyone else's.

I decorate for my pleasure and satisfaction, not to show off what I've done to others. While my house is open to visitors who come across it on their own, I don't go out of my way to get them.

Some players simply want a place to call their own and decorate. That's it. Having a house gives them far more options than they get with an apartment.

They're just as deserving of the opportunity to own a house as you are.

Correct, but a lot of players are still hoping that SE will add housing to it some time in the future.

Personally, I don't want a house on a farm so I'd rather they created a new instanced housing system separate from Island Sanctuaries and apartments.

That happens with some of the Dimensions in RIFT. They basically take a piece of the game world and make it available as a Dimension. Some are wilderness, some are city, some are a blank template. You get to build on the Dimension as you like up to the item limit. There are pre-fab buildings and items, there are also a variety of Building Blocks to create your own items. No glitch tricks needed, free placement, rotation, resizing allowed.

Arokk might feel overly impressed by the housing system here but those who have had a chance to play with ESO, Wildstar, RIFT and others aren't because we know how much more is possible.

In ESO you can let people enter in your house, they can use some of your furniture (crafting tables, for example), you can make tournaments on it (PvP fights for example) or have some of your mounts there. You could do the same here and you wouldn't feel alone. In fact, I've being around my FC house and almost never see anyone around for calling wards really neighborhoods.

I honestly don't understand the request.
Sanctuaries are going to be whatever they've been designed to be.
SQEX isn't going to rework or change them to meet anyone's request this close to launch, especially since we haven't even had a chance to experience the content yet.

We already have instanced housing its called appartments. And you'll get gardening with Endwalker. Why request things already in game or planned to be released soon?

The creative freedom and possibilities are not the same between appartments and houses, you know it very well. And appartments are also limited in supply (unsure about FC ones though).

I understand the request.
Perhaps they were designed to be this, perhaps they were not. But they're not going to be changed from what they were designed to be until they've at least been released.

Requesting changes to unknown content... I don't understand that.

Rather that than people who think they want a house and once they get it it stands empty cause they quit the game.

I can imagine this would suck, but isn't there some sort of expiration that automatically relinquishes the house if they don't visit it for a while?

Which does nothing for those players who can't get a house at all.

If that was really SE's motivation, they would have added demolition to apartments and kept the house supply far more limited.
