Please for the love of all that is holy give us a tackle box!

Please! It is the only gathering profession that requires so many different things to move between them. When you want to go fishing you can't just swap over you need to pull in a ton of items. Just give us a tackle box to carry it all around in. PLEASE!!

I don't think it's ever going to happen, but oh my god I want it so bad! ;_;
Bait takes up so much room.

I pay for mobile app premium sub to keep all my baits in the chocobo saddlebag . . .

Not going to lie next to Glamour closet this is up there with the top 5 request you see in FF14 and no I am not kidding.

Chocobo saddle

Tackle Box coming soon for an extra 2 dollars a month on the companion app. Inventory straining the server and we can't add more for free? Nonsense when money is involved.

I'd pay $5 more a month to have the kind of Craft Bag I enjoy on ESO.

Server can't handle it.

They went on the record saying that they'd rather give us more general inventory space (for example the chocobo saddle bag) instead of inventory space thats limited to one specific type of item - that way everyone can decide what to use that space for, instead of it being limited to be only useful to fishers.

So... your tackle box is your chocobo saddle bag.

Probably if we would get 30 or so more inventory space those people would use the space for anything but baits and complain they need more space for baits.

The reason we don't have a tackle box is actually quite simple: Yoshi P has said that when they add more inventory slots it is far preferable to add slots you can use for anything, rather than adding slots you can only use for one thing.
That way the people that want the space to store tackles and lures can use it for that.
The people that want a "crafters bag" can use the space for mats.
People that want a "dye box" can use the space to collect their dye.
Etc.

He has said we should never expect to get new inventory slots dedicated to specific things (like a tackle box) when we could get... just... more inventory.

Might be an unpopular opinion but if inventory is the limitation, then they will probably be better off removing bait completely and give it the same function that spearfishing uses. Just bring up a sub command to choose from depending on what you are going for. Bait, lure, heavy lure. Something like that.

Given that other MMO's competing for our time manage to implement a much more effective inventory system I see no reason why FFXIV cannot do so as well.

I'm not particularly interested in excuses. Yes, the development team have claimed that it would be 'difficult', yet they've also said the same thing about other features as well and at this point it seems like a portion of the community itself is weaponising the phrase to stifle the game's progress.

When increased inventory space is actively tied to extra subscription costs, I believe it is extremely healthy to raise an eyebrow when a business claims that they cannot solve an inventory shortage easily.

There's also many items that could be translated into a currency rather than a physical item that takes up an inventory slot.

they did also mention at some pointt the idea of revamping the bait system so it doesnt require inventory. you buy a bait and use it and it appears permanantly in a taclke list kinla like orchestration rolls and stuff. then you just choose the one you want and go..

Not remove bait completely, just trim it down to like max 10 different baits instead.

I love this game very much but the thing that lets it down badly is the lack of storage, storage for glammers, storage for mats ( as there is so many needed for all crafting, they need to implement the same sort as in SWTOR , one tab that stores every single mat for every single craft ) so that the lack of bagspace can be justified.. i mean having to take food ,potions, tackle, materia, non quest items,glammer crystals, glammer dispellers, and the bathroom sink the bags get full so fast, if i were to do a days worth of fishing my bags are full, you kill animals you get meats, skins , bones, horns and a partridge in a peartree to boot.. My retainers are full of mats because im trying to lvl all my skills, you get the special currency drops out of raids and dungeons to get armour and weapons which take up bag space and there are loads diff ones, There is just NOT enough space to do it all on one character.... the Glammer dresser is a poor design also.. I mean over 30 diff classes/jobs on one toon that means all the diff armours and styles and weapons skins.. and only 400 spaces to cover every slot.. an armoire that is utterly useless.. Grinding for glamors and no where to store them.. whats the point!! this is where WoW did it better with the transmogs.. once you collected an item the skin were put in to your collection list and you didnt have to keep the item .. freeing up bag space. .. This is so frustraiting , that the time you use to mine,harvest,fish, make mats such as "gold"bars, diff leathers, ect from raw mats and no where to put them.. makes this a joke ... if they wont do something to eleviate this problem , then let us have the ability to post stuff to alts so we can at least use that option,... there are to many things to do for one character without the correct tools ...

I'm not against it but we would still get new bait with every expansion. I am expecting even more bait coming with Endwalker. They already tried when they added the versatile lure.

Inventory management and structure is a mess, if this is truly the cost of the armory system... I doubt it, thats the regular excuse but i bet they could do better but just won't, is a "non issue" and they always can just add more monetization for this.

Would be a win some lose some but wonder if they could change the baits into a few different 'stat' groups, for easy example river, ocean, lake, sand, sky. Exotic, if one wanted that distinction. New materia that adds fisherman knowledge (maybe generic +5 to all bait groups, or I suppose it could be unique like deep azul fisherman's bauble- +7 river, ocean, +2 lake). Using bait takes nq generic bait, special bait can take hq (which may require gathering or whatever resource that may cause it to cost something).

Increase your tacklebox experience fields by gathering fish, particularly good value on new fish, completing quests, etc. If you can't be bothered you can lose materia slots to bait materia which will allow you to skip the progression in a sense. To make the materia vaguely intriguing beyond progression skipping there can also be higher end baits that are more effective but normally not either easily or 'yet' attainable by regular means of experience (say cap for river is 20 in ShB, but there is a special bait that is helpful at 22, or less complicated but the stat may impact certain bait related skills, chance of bait not being consumed, perhaps increase speed fish hook, etc).

Sort of a secondary level system. Because of the new bait system (generic bait) it would also be far easier and encouraged to run around to different areas to rank up your tacklebox. Then you'd have an experience of gaining baits while it being relatively simple to track (5ish numbers). Of course you could just have it based on level, and use a generic bait type, in which case it would be super easy (but less fun in the idea of finding baits).

Permanent unlock on purchase of bait, using generic aetherial bait as consumable, would probably be the simplest for the player and yet maintain that exploration feeling (go to shops, quests, etc), but I think this is in essence what they were talking about avoiding and just rather add new item slots that players can use for whatever they choose to use them for.

I'm also on the standpoint that one doesn't need to keep every item one gets in the inventory. Players need to manage what they want to keep and what not. Otherwise I want 30k inventory space so I can keep every item in the game.

That's all well and good but inventory in this game is horrible. The saddlebag is a laughable bandaid, and "just buy more retainers" is just not cutting it. The reason craft bags (and by extension I can see dyes) are popular in other games is because of how item ids work. You're not counting the durability, materia, or glam status of a material so you can stack it in another directory and apply a number to it.

Moving these items to their own category, not unlike quest items, would alleviate a lot of the pressure on an already burdened inventory system.

That's true, but still doesn't sound like the best solution is a tackle box.

If the problem is that we have too much bait, instead of giving us dedicated bait storage the solution should be to delete a lot of the bait and consolidate.

If the problem is that we have too little storage, more general storage would still be better, especially when we could make a very similar statements to what you said but with mats, or glamour items, or whatever.

And where would this inventory space come from?

Space we already have just being relocated to these inventories? Because chopping up our storage to partition parts of it off doesn't sound like a successful idea.

If we're getting new spaces made for "their own inventory" I'm not sure why they wouldn't just go with what they said they'd do and just give us more inventory.

I do not know how the back end works for crystal management/storage. As far as I'm aware, behind that unique looking interface in your inventory tab the game isn't doing anything different. It still tracks stacks of crystals the same way the game tracks all our other item stacks.

Y'know, when I started my quest to complete my fish guide i had so much bait that my inventory was always full. Time goes on an then I finished ARR fish and at the end of HW fish I realized that I used 0 baits below level 50, and I didn't even used all bait from 51~60, so yeah, if want to fish below level 50 (maybe 1 specific fish, but mostly no), I can use versatile lure or buy bait again but I definitely don't need that shit cluttering my inventory.
After that it was smooth sailing, I just keep bait that I know I'll need (the remaining big fish + Ocean Fishing) and gg.

Key items inventory spaces are not actually inventory spaces, just the illusion. They're there to make the aesthetic similar to the regular inventory, however they're simply toggles of "yes/no" for a specific amount of items.
Otherwise they wouldn't have had to remove belts to give us extra inventory in our armoury.

It basically stores the data of these items as a menu unless the crystals are pulled from that "inventory". Which is why crystals in the crystal inventory can stack indefinitely, but are treated as having the same stack cap as any other item. The reason bag and retainer space is limited is because it needs to keep track of many individual variables for multiple items. Statuses like durability require every piece of gear to be tracked, and having a crafted item gives it a unique ID to feature the crafters' name.

Raw materials, as well as bait, do not require any extra data besides quantity. HQ and NQ file in as their own items. If they were to be treated like crystals are, they would fall into this "inventory" and not behave as objects unless pulled out of this menu. It wouldn't be until these materials are used that they would need to be put into our inventory/saddlebag/retainer as they have changed state into something crafted. Just like how we pull crystals from the crystal menu to make items.

You don't need to run around with every bait 24/7.

It'd be nice to have something bait could go in automatically but their reasoning is sound. They don't want to add single-use inventory, so instead add inventory for everyone and we decide how to use it. A lot of us turned our chocobo saddlebag into our tackle box. It's a nice big convenient inventory that works perfectly for it.

Isnt inventory supposed to be something limited and we have to manage anyway, i rather have the dev expand inventory outright or give 1 more retainer, even now i have 4 fish bait that i havent used for 3 months or perhaps more in my inventory......... should have throw them away if i didnt use them but oh well......

I wonder if YoshiP every commented on this in the past.

One part of me has always wanted a independent tackle box separate from the inventory system (this is the impulsive me),

The other part of me knows i shouldn't have to carry every bait with me, although for a long time i did just that in the early days.

The new all-in-one fishing ball baits were implemented to sort of alleviate that impulse of wanting to lug around all those ARR and HW baits.

So yes there was certainly a time I wanted what people here are asking for, but those new baits were the compromise I think to people asking for a independent tacklebox.

Dunno if it’s been asked yet, but could someone explain to me how they can’t increase our inventory space but can somehow manage to add more retainers with their inventory space so long as you pay money? How does that work exactly?

As I understand it those retainers are maintained on a different server.
The items you actually have in your person are tracked and checked pretty often as you adventure, so it's difficult to let people hold more when they would balloon everything the game is keeping track of, especially as your inventory literally moves with your character as you move in and out of instances and the game is moving your characters data between servers.
But retainers, like your glamour dresser, do not do this. Their data is held on another server, doesn't move like our own inventories do, and you just interface with their inventories through menus through the bells.

Sounds like if baits, and also dyes, were removed entirely it would alleviate server strain.
