Minor Change I Think Would Be Neat

I know throughout the FFXIV community, Rescue is memed pretty often, mostly since trolls use it to damage/kill party members because "haha, it's funny". However, I use Rescue fairly frequently for its intended purpose, rescuing someone from danger. Now, 120 second cool down sounds like a lot every now and then, especially in Trials/Raids when you're dealing with 7 other people. Is anyone else bothered by its long CD? I feel like if it were much shorter, like 5 seconds, but gives a minute or two long "debuff" making them unable to be rescued again in that time would be so much better.

Nice idea.

I love rescue, and while it took me to get used to it, once I did, I keep finding opportunities to use it. For the greater good I mean.

But at the same time, the troll potential of it makes me hesitant to ask for the CD to be lowered, no matter how many times I see people who need to actually be rescued from a mechanic.

Maybe if they changed rescue into a teleport instead of a pull, the troll potential would go down enough that having a low CD would be fine.

As long as the troll potential was low enough, I'd be pretty happy with a 10s or less CD, cuz I know there's tons of times I want to use it, but 120s means that I can only save people with it on the rare occasion.

I'm not really a fan of using "troll potential" as a justifiable reason to hamper the design of a job. Designing around it implies that it's is regular behavior and/or a rampant problem that needs a resolution, and I don't genuinely believe that's the case for troll healers. Occasionally (as in once in a blue moon), you'll run into a troll healer who you'll promptly kick and wait a couple minutes for a replacement; so what? It's like when people complain that adding more DPS buttons will somehow create a massive game issue where healers will forget to heal. Just because one healer in one dungeon run you'll encounter on an off day will accidentally forget to heal the tank and cause a single wipe, we need to neuter the entire role? I haven't healed through dungeons throughout all of Shadowbringers, and I can count on my hand the number of times our party wiped during a pull. It's not that big a deal.

Rescue's glaring flaw has always been the delay in displacement. They have to deal with that first before anything else.

That's a good point, I try and react quick enough now that the slight delay isn't a problem, but of course, I can still be that little half second late and they still get slapped anyways. If instead if the animation playing out, then the draw effect, that should basically be reversed. Start the draw effect and then play the animation while in motion.
In this sense as well, I know the animation is it circling upwards, but I feel like as well it could be made to in a ways circle towards you, the healer, to show where they're getting yoinked to.

Ugh mobile posting won't allow me to edit & I entered too fast.

Aside from the delay, there's also the way the ability behaves. Target's hitbox does not instantly transported to the healer's side. What happens instead is their hitbox is forcefully pulled, possibly picking up any bad stuffs that may snapshots during that quick yoink.

I rather see rescue removed all together, it's been used on me far too much by players wanting to be helpful

Arm's Length and Surecast prevent being Rescued and it would be neat if they made the anti-rescue part of those a seperate role skill that could be toggled on and off permanently. Maybe call it "Lone Wolf" or something. This way healers could see which party members refuse Rescue and the ability to troll is lost. We could have a shorter cooldown and no danger of abusing people that hate having it used on them.

Am a 50 50 on it too yes I want a short cd yet no cause of some troller types. Tbh sure cast i want a shorter cd or longer duration. There is way marks and people can mark themselves for people to avoid things too so rescue eh its just meh. Also get rid of repose its so pointless.

Repeated Rescue harassment is bannable anyway and trolling among friends is lighthearted fun and a positive aspect of the game. Mistaken rescues aren't the end of the world either and could just have easily been someone killing you with a range of other mechanics. Mistakes happen.

Restricting the cooldown due to fear of abuse is unnecessary.

I'd be all for this, but I fully agree the inherent delay hinders its use for saving people. It needs to be as instant as possible.

Only reason I'd want to see Rescue removed for would be that Role Actions are finally being scrapped and, say, WHM and AST alone are getting unique versions of its ally-moving capacity.

If it stays, I'd like to see it check pathing (unable to pull through holes -- just pulls to where hitbox edge reaches a pathing barrier), is allowed outside of combat again, and cooldown reduced a bit.

yeah if friends I dont mind cause we know what we doing but randoms oh nonono . But true also you gotta love like in alliance someone who aint even in your party comes running tetters to you and like wow. Another reason i love shields there, i aint about to be destiny bond and die with who tried to kill me lol or twinning 2nd boss omgash people tend to clump their markers with yours as some how all decide to go same spot

As Bind and Sleep are functionally identical except against non-melee enemies who haven't been turned away from the group before being bound, I don't think Repose would be an issue if returned as a WHM-only spell AND CC were actually made a thing again. I'd prefer that over the game just being further shallowed.

To be frank I'll be one of those who'd get -really sad- if they remove Repose :( Sure their use is niche, so I can understand if they eventually get removed. The few times I used this:

1. Eureka
   There's always those stragglers who came into NMs encounter dragging one or two stray mobs. What do you know? Repose them!
2. Bozjan Southern Front
   Repose star mobs followed up by swift'd Lost Death. Success? Yum frags! Missed? Bat the hell outta here!
3. Low level dungeons
   Some of the older dungeon tend to have those ranged enemies that just refuses to get close and just hurl their attacks at our tanks from afar. A few times when the tank are oblivious about this I'd just repose them until the party wipes clean the melee mobs.
4. My newbie questing days
   I use Repose A LOT in one of those "Go to X to examine Y in a location full of aggressive mobs". Yep! I repose them all before examining my objective then sprint out of the scene ;)

In short, it gives me one extra button to press albeit in niche situation. At least for me. Rescue is also similar in this respect.

5. delubrum reginae savage. You need to interrupt/kill the ruin golems before they slap a thrice come ruin on everyone. Repose is really useful for that in the colour phase and for singular golems that dont aggro properly to the centre during the soft enrage
6. potd/hoh luring traps. Holy shit me and ivory would not have staggered to floor 90 in hoh last week were it not for this spell. We've had atrocious luck this run but repose was our key to not being mauled when I inevitably triggered a fake beacon out of 4

As for rescue, moving the cooldown lower would be nice. The trolls are few and far between. They do need to get rid of the lag though. There's so many uses for this spell
-dragging greedy dps to the pad in lota
-helping a freshly revived player get over to the safe spot in DR during the flame arrow phase of trinity avowed
-dragging a lazy blm out of their leylines instead of being forced to adjust to their stupidity
-helping the far meteor player get to the safe spot after dropping theeir marker in tsuky ex
-removing ending lag after a lb


personally I'm with shurrikan's earlier post. They should scrap this "role" thing and bring back unique options. Learn your damn job and have the flavour. I'm power levelling summoner on my main rn and in order to get the last drop of exp for a level i did the sch quests. I spent several minutes looking for leeches on my hotbar only to realise that nope, its esuna now.

also I will never understand the decision to have energy drain on smn and sch work opposite. Apart from SE absolutely hates healers and wants sch to lose energy drain when its smn that wants to move away from acn instead

Exactly this. The game's sh!t internal engine has a 2.5 GCD simply because it's not fast enough to:

Identify a healer has used Rescue
Identify the target's current location
Identify the target's location to be rescued to.
Move the target.

We know the game sucks at character location, it's been that way since 2.0. Rescue is asking the game to identify 3 separate ones in the space of a microsection which it just can't do.

It actually makes me wonder if SMN even cares about their dots anymore, because if they don't, then SE can just change ACN into a healer class with only some slight reworks to the class quests and SMN could fully concentrate on their pet theme while the game finally gets a second starter healer.

I know this is a bit of a tangent, but FF really deserves to have two starter healers when it basically has a full party with unique classes at start aside from healers.

given most smns want it to be more trance based, with carbuncle glamour etc I would venture the same thought as always: decouple summoner from arcanist not scholar. Scholar had a really popular dot style of gameplay and they deleted it. Summoner has always been all over the place in terms of how it played.

Arcanist was always closer to scholar than summoner. But SE dont want to go back and do anything to classes apart from remove abilities

I see it used WAY more appropriately than I have ever seen it used to troll.
I wouldn't mind seeing it more available.

The only time I take issue with rescue is when I'm already in a safe spot and someone rescues me into a whole mess of aoes then claims they were trying to help me.

Does it happen often? No, not really. But when it does, dear God am I tilted for the rest of the run.

I think rescue should apply cover to the healer that used it if they misuse it then they die

this will add extra utiltiy to rescue so a healer can sacrifice some of their health to save a low healthed DPS and even punish trolls or poor rescue timings

I'd limit that, personally. While it can be nice to health-trade, if we go from mitigating certain death --> two steps away from safety (which the Rescued party member, in their befuddlement, still might not take) to certain death --> two steps more or else your (last) healer dies... the reward is no longer worth the risk in many cases.

While it would be nice to have rescue on a lower cd, Rescue's main problem is the delay.
There's actually a lot more delays than people think when using rescue - besides rescue's delay, there's also the delay of other players moving to the safe zone. if you notice, sometimes a player might have been hit by the AoE on your side, but the damage doesn't actually go through - there's a slight delay when moving to the safe zone before it registers to our screens. However, on the targeted' players end, they have moved into the safe zone a while back before the damage even went through.

To use rescue properly, you have to take into account of this delay as well as rescue's natural delay of halting the targeted' character and then the delay when pulling/sliding across the safe zone, so the delay is 3 parts slower than intended. In most cases, if the target for rescue wasn't going to make it to the safe zone by the time you even hit rescue, they were probably going to get hit anyway so it's not even the healer's fault they rescued. However, if the target for rescue was already near a safe zone when the attack is about to hit, it's a gamble whether you would think they would move to the safe zone in time, or whether the target needs to be rescued. Generally, it's better to assume they'll make it in time if you account for the animation delay on characters when moving to safe zones. If they don't, then oh well.

At least you don't get yelled at for trying and then killing them, right?

Some mechs though are easy to know when to use it. Mt fav is ruby princess when new players get hit by seduce. usually I then get to save them from corolis kick if timed well. pretty easy com there to boot heh but if its more than one oof decision making.

Oh yeah, I agree. You can pull them to safety using Rescue since you can definitely guarantee they won't be able to save themselves in time and pull them right before the kick resolves. It's definitely a great place to rescue for sure.

I think the Shinryu phase transition is one of the best moments to rescue, but it that has to be done quickly since the healer have to immediately locate the safe spot, sprint to the safe spot, then see if anyone needs a rescue and make sure rescue's delay will finish pulling them before the mechanic finishes. At the same time, it's possible to screw them over due to the attack's knockback while being pulled to safety and kill them instead since the healer would be rescuing them closer to the edge and the knockback distance would yeet them off the edge after.

I rescued a tank in Cloud Deck Extreme from the push in dog phase and effectively did a gap closer for him and I can't say I have ever felt more proud, although he promptly died to the next knockback and ruined my high. A shorter cooldown might have let me save him twice. Ninjas can teleport wvery twenty seconds, tanks have gap closers, and BLM flies around a stage like they own a magicked broom. When are healers gonna get real movement skills outside of just Rescuing each other?
