Consolidation of crafting materials.

With the new expansion coming i think its about time square deletes at least half of the crafting materials in this game and consolidate old crafting recipes because at this point unless you have 6 retainers its impossible to hold every material in the game, this is just annoying and just plain pointless because who cares about some easy to get material from ARR for a recipe you can HQ in 2 seconds, just get rid of the pointless amount of old materials and consolidate the recipe system for old content please. :mad:

I support this as well as embracing the new content.

I shouldn't be going into 8 year old ARR content to gather materials to craft lvl 80 items.

You could always buy the materials in question from the market board, then.

Personally I love it when newer recipes use older materials as it helps keep them relevant.

I am not saying they shouldn't be relevant all I am saying is that they should reduce the pool, don't even get me started on how having NQ and HQ basically doubles the amount.

What I want to know is why you'd find i necessary to keep both NQ/HQ, instead of just reducing your bag space by reducing all older HQ items into NQ items.

Honestly I wouldn't mind the amount of crafting materials we need to gather if we had a separate inventory dedicated to those materials. But I know they'd never do that because how else would they sell you the extra retainers?

At the very least give dyes their own inventory... literally more than half of my saddlebag is dyes OTL

Not old mats but some of the new mats current mats I do, not many but it is still around 10 or so spaces that are just wasted, between glamour, materials and furniture there is no way i can have more than 10 spaces free on my retainers, this games has serious issues with inventory space, if there was a bag specifically for materials like in ESO or GW2 i wouldn't have to go to the forums to complain about excess of materials that consume almost 3 retainers for me, i can't afford to hire 6 retainers.

I can still easily manage to hold everything I require on the basic 2 retainers. My saddlebag is basically a materia bag. I have an apartment and it's just... full of furniture to not clutter retainers or my existing storage in house.

Edit: Moved most gear over to the glamour dresser. I'm not going to hoard things I know I'll never use.

Idk about you, but I've sat on the default 2 retainers, and craft avidly enough, I just make sure to try and spot trends in how they approach recipes, especially from the leveling, and master recipe perspective, then I hold those in retainers for the duration of the expansion, then cycle out each expansion, and just keep my inventory clear for actual endgame items, and for anything that's potentially an outlier. Like I'm not going to keep a stash of, say, Yew Lumber, Cedar Lumber, Hallowed Lumber, Ramie Cloth, Mythrite Ingot, and other such materials, because they aren't going to be used in an abundant amount of recipes, so I just have my storage reserved for what is used in an abundant amount of recipes, and what I feel is likely to be used in an abundant amount of recipes going forward, in addition to extra space to compensate for being wrong. It's timely, but it keeps me on my toes so I can't complain, and trends are very easy to spot if you're willing to look

From what i see, for starter, I think Dyes should have a separate inventory management, It wont be a very big data management issue for the developer and it would encourage player to stockpile dyes, since glamour is end game content afterall XD

Back to the main topic, I know that asking for separate inventory for material asking too much, cant the luxury trader sell more than just very expensive mount? make it that they sell extra 16 slot inventory(one time use) for player or retainer for 10 million gils, I will buy it =D, I dont have that much gil yet but it will motivate me to farm gil XD

I would prefer they re-utilize old materials with limited new materials added. Or use other items entirely as crafting components.

Something like the newest armor requiring the newest metal ingots and/or leather, but then maybe also an actual existing chest armor piece as a base, as opposed to a bunch of random components.

Or, get rid of the crafting materials that are just refined basic materials. (Ingots -> Plates/Rivets/Chain... just use the appropriate number of ingots). Fine if it makes sense/represents an amalgam of several resources (like the Growth-Formula Beta or whatever)

I know it sounds kinda contradictory, but I'm saying we don't need refined crafting components that are made of a single resource. So instead of ...lets say "Sharlayan Silver Ingots" requiring "Sharlayan Silver Ore", it might require basic silver ore, plus some new "Sharlayan blahblah ore".

The biggest change they could do IMO is allow NQ and HQ of the same material (excluding equipment, potions, and food) to take up the same inventory slot. This alone would half the amount of current inventory and retainer space needed to hold the mats and be one of the biggest QoL changes they could give the playerbase.

I've never felt the need to stockpile materials personally, especially ARR items that cost pennies. I agree there are a lot of materials these days especially for cooking so some streamlining wouldn't hurt but better inventory managment doesn't hurt either.

This. Even with 10 retainers there is not enough inventory space for all of these crafting materials and what not.

There is an insane amount of crafting items so... extra challenge... but a crafting bag like GW2 would be cool. More realistically I've thought if you crafted in special locations it would be neat if you could pull from your retainers and the auction house while in crafted position (allowing you to very smoothly manage inventory).

As for consolidation of crafted items I can see the benefits but it also feels a bit sad to lose all those items like that. Maybe they could take those gil coins you get from quests (that are for selling for X value), and make them have a parallel in old crafts. Like instead of getting some boar leather you could use 500 gil Allagan coins. It'd be a bit weird on certain rare items, which maybe they just go "okay anything with a drop / acquisition rate of X doesn't get a coin equivalent" (so you don't make a 200k gil market item worth 2,000 gil Allagan coin). Sort of could work. Kind of kills the opportunity for low level people to get in as easily to the gil market though (selling those items that someone just can't be bothered to go earn). Kind of messy, but one thought to throw at the wall I guess lol.

Either way I'd still feel a bit sad to see any recipe or items vanish. . . so hopefully not just a pure "yeah to make orange juice now you only need table salt!" lol (silly example on purpose, but you get the point- to make Boar Subligar all you need now is raw boar leather, or something- just kind of wipes down the depth of things). Hopefully solutions could minimize / avoid that.

Most of the crafting materials pre-Shadowbringers are found on vendors now (not to mention generally very cheap on the MB). Buy as you need instead of storing them.

Why are you keeping HQ materials separate instead of lowering quality to stack them with NQ? You don't need HQ materials except for current end game crafts.

Like learning you're drinking water wrong all your life. Derp, I need to go lower the quality on a bunch of my items (if I don't intend to sell them, of course).

50 inventory slots here I come lol.

I just buy or gather stuff I want at the time I need them instead of stockpiling every item for the future. Between inventory and saddlebag, I think I would be fine with zero retainers storage. My two free retainers are mostly empty. I'm quite a neat freak and anti hoarder. And yeah I am an omni crafter.

My retainers are an absolute mess and I really need to clean up their inventories again sometime soon:

Though that's absolutely on me and my hoarding tendencies. Most of it is stuff I don't necessarily need and a lot of the crafting materials can be sold or bought as needed for pocket change anyway.

Why in the world are you even trying to hold onto every crafting item in the game? Check what items you can actually craft with mats, figure out if it's something you'll ever actually craft, get rid of junk that won't turn into anything worthwhile.

Not to mention the vast amounts of currency tokens that don't go into the currency tab.

I admit I was hording onto a bunch of ARR stuff, as my crafters are still mostly under 50. As they have been levelling up I have been crafting one of everything. As I come across materials that no longer craft something new in the book I have been dumping them all on the MB. Thank goodness for Show Recipes Using This Material.

When it comes to making gil, my best advice is to take the time to gear up your retainers with the appropriate high level gear. You don't need to get the super high end stuff, either. I think right now the gear available for basic tomes/scrips works to fulfill the conditions for venture bonuses.

Ever since I took the time to do that, my retainers started to bring back way more HQ items (sometimes two at once) as well as furniture and equipment that sells for a decent amount. Oh, and venture coffers - which either turn into dyes or retainer fantasia. The black, white and pink dyes tend to be the most valuable.

For stuff that sells for pocket change or isn't selling quickly enough, I trade in equipment to my grand company for seals. Every 19800 seals translates into 99 coke, which sells decently and consistently. For furniture that isn't selling, I tend to use desynthesis to break it down. Some the materials obtained sell more easily, or I can stockpile and craft something with them!

Other random tips I'd offer up include doing the trial roulette once a day. Especially as the appropriate adventurer in need. You can do more roulettes than that, of course, but trials are - usually - quick and easy, so it's a good way to make a swift 16000~ gil once per day.

I also do my daily frontlines roulette for wolf marks. Every 9900 translates into 99 glamour prisms which also sell consistently.

I'll be honest...this is one of the first MMOs I've ever seen that has that idea in its head. GW2 has Material Storage. ESO has the Crafting Bag. Destiny and Destiny 2 there was more than enough space for all the crafting mats. Warframe has enough space for all the mats. Genshin Impact has the space. It's just this game, this is the only one that has this problem.

Thanks to some posts here and elsewhere I've been slowly freeing up some space, as fast as my retainers can sell off the excess. If I no longer need something to craft a new item, sell it. If I need the item to still craft stuff but the base craft item is trivial (like Iron and Steel ingots, yeah, I'm still lowbie) then I Lower Quality the HQ stuff and combine it with the NQ stuff in a single stack. If I only need a few of the items to wrap up making new stuff, then I sell off the rest, hopefully the HQ stuff because it sells more.


It could be worse, we could be in WOW Classic territory, with very limited bag space, and materials stacking to at most 20, and in a lot of cases, only 5 per stack.

Why are you hoarding so many materials? Yes there are a lot of them but there is no reason to keep a stack of everything
