I know Yoshi's done a couple interviews since then, but I've been out of the loop. Has there been any word about what they're going to do for Endwalker with regards to the healers in this time?

Only thing I really remember right now is they're changing AST to be a "pure" healer like WHM, with SCH and Sage being barrier types.

There the interviews that I could find with the most healing info possible. It isn't much and it's the usually planning stages production party and nothing too in-depth.
Edit: Other than they'll try to increase healing requirements but this is only in the high end content.
I'm pretty sure I remember something like that.
How the healer role would have to "Focus on healing" which is why they added new tools for SCH to heal.
Kinda wish those interview could focus on what people want. Thinking about BRD, SMN and healers.
I mean, was there actually a major part of the community actually wondering if the players would be able to make moonjump out of all things EW could bring?
For those who don't want to/can't read the articles:
PS Blog:
-Talks about how Yoshi-P wanted a new job idea instead of one from previous games and someone on the team suggested a healer that uses a weapon they control magically vs holding it in their hands.
Famitsu:
-Sage will be different from SCH because SCH will use a fairy to heal and place shields. (Does this mean fairies will focus on placing shields or is this just in reference to Seraph?)
-Sage will have different offensive and defensive behavior to SCH
-Due to people saying healers didn't have much to do, they increased the attack intensity and damage output when designing Eden Promise (Savage)
-They plan to balance EW content with having both a pure and shield healer in the party
-They'll be adjusting the raid finder algorithm so parties won't get doubles of the same type of healer (pure vs shield)
-Pure and Shield healers will not be separate roles
-For Dungeons, any healer should be able to clear them
-As of this interview (2/21), development was "barley over" 1/3 of the way there
-They currently have no plans of changing how Healer LB work or how healers increase the LB bar
Both articles have more but that's it for healer info.
They said forever that healer balance was too bad to add another, so last round they pretty well eliminated any difference between them. I just wish they would look at something other than DPS to have healers do. They have also said they were increasing damage output and intensity before to make healers work harder and that also flatlined. They will never making healing difficult beyond the first encounter with the current design. Once you know the damage is coming you can simply memorize it. Also gearing makes jobs way too strong by the time the next round of content rolls out, so only the latest things challenge to any degree and that is quickly diminished once you start acquiring better gear.
What irks me about Yoshida's remark is it only reflects upon a single piece of content. I'll admit, cycle phase of E11S and E12S as a whole definitely saw an uptick in healing requirement. Granted, the bar wasn't exactly high to begin with. What about all the other content? We have a new 24-man and guess what I'm doing for 90% of it? Spamming Glare. And I'm not even i520.
It isn't just the raid scene complaining about the lack of engagement for healers. Every demographic is voicing their criticism towards this iteration.
I don't even do savage raiding myself, so this is for all other content in which the healing requirements are even less. Boss fights are still scripted events that have a very strict schedule of outgoing damage. After a few runs of anything in XIV you will be able to predict exactly when you will need to use what healing skills and once you are geared better you can stop using healing abilities for nearly the entire run.
apparently worktogame put out a vid about people being able to submit questions for the live yoshi Q&A in the upcoming fanfest--i cant wait to see how few healer questions they decide to answer this time.
my money's on "if they get a hundred questions, less than five will be related to healer concerns"
just wanna call/immortalize it now.
The segment is only going to be an hour long so at most I would expect 6-10 questions. I'd put money on at least 1 being healer related seeing as how they're adding Sage, but I'd venture it's going to be "How is Sage going to play?".
Seeing as how these questions are going to be pre-screened, nothing controversial such as healer playstyle in general is going to be discussed. They'll want to hype up the new healing job.
The average Q+A session:
20 minutes of requests about housing and mogstation glamours, written by the dev team, all of which get implemented on the spot 'You get a glamour, and you get a glamour!'
20 minutes of questions on lore and Aymeric's dating life, also written by the dev team, all of which are answered with cheerful banter and 'refer to lore book'
10 minutes of time-wasting questions that most people should know the answers to
1 genuine question actually written by a player on raiding which may or may not have a semi-interesting answer
1 question about the new job which gets segued into in a 'surprising reveal'
I'm calling it already:
Q: "Healers are feeling unsatisfied with their gameplay at the moment. This is because there are only three healers and 14 flavours of black mage. What are you gonna do about it?"
A: "There are 14 flavours of black mage because we have had to subdivide casters into four different sub-sub groups. So when you look at the individual ratios of each black mage subtype, they're actually all individually equal in size to healers, such that it's fair. They also buy more mogstation glamours than you. But lo, do not fear. We have heard your desperate pleas, and we have actually designed *drumroll* a new healer. In a world first preview, let's see this special reveal! *Recanned footage of sage* *Polite applause* Please look forward to it!
"And that's all the time that we have, folks! We'll see you back in another two years for another session of real developer-player interaction!™"
If I had to guess. The only controversial question they'll answer is male Viera and female Hrothgar because they can easily dismiss it by citing how difficult it is to add new races, how they mentioned not intending to add more and that Viera and Hrothgar glamour has proven difficult.
At least maybe that would get people to stop asking about them every- oh, who am I kidding? People still ask about egi glamours.
If Astro is destined to be a WHM clone with card tricks that one needs a DPS parser to know it even exists, count me out. But if they're willing to restore any of the AST's time-altering abilities which were unceremoniously zapped in 5.0, and/or revamp the card system so that its impact is evident without (illegal) parsers, count me as skeptically interested.
Because the average player doesn't seem to actually care whether or not a job is engaging in all types of content. They care about how it's glamour looks, how flashy the sparkles on it's version of Cure 2 are and if they can get through their daily expert roulette by occasionally pressing 2 buttons.
Like they don’t even can give viera and hrothgar some good hairstyles or old hairstyles too it’s just so fukking dumb that all the “glamour” are not for these 2 races like holy crap. I have the bloody cloud hairstyle and can’t use it on my character so I’m either forced too wait 2 more expansions or swap races.
So here is some recent news in regards to the development behind https://www.ign.com/articles/final-f...hida-interview
And now here the section itself in the quotes here
Not exactly sure how to feel about this, I'm glad they took a lot of time corcerning Sage but from the looks of it, non-magic healers are off the menu for the foreseeable future.Quote:
But one of the class suggestions from the community for a new healer was Alchemist, which proved to be harder to conceptualize.
“We were really having to rack our brains on the Sage idea,” Yoshida explains. “Of course there were ideas about, like, ‘Oh, bring over Alchemist,’ and things like that and when we thought about, ‘Okay, so what if we used Alchemist? What kind of weapon would they wield?’”
Initial ideas involved some kind of medical kit, but Yoshida says having such a science-based weapon for a magic-wielder “would be weird.” The developers also thought having a class that throws potions at people was “very difficult” to fit into the battle systems.
Instead, the developers started with a blank slate for the healer role, ideating different weapons. Someone on the team suggested floating orbs players can wield which then shifted into projectiles or “healing missiles.” This eventually led to the Sage’s flying weapons, which opened up new gameplay mechanics and visual experiences. When these floating weapons sheathe, they also sheathe into the players’ back which “looks very sci-fi, but still, it looks very magical,” perfect for Final Fantasy 14’s aesthetic.
All in all, Yoshida says development for the Reaper class took about three months from conception to fleshing out, while development on Sage took half a year.
