New Races Unable to Wear Puppet Bunker Raid Headgear

Please ignore my other thread with nearly the same name. I meant to say Puppet Bunker but it got autocorrected to Puppet Mastee. xD

Well, as far as I know it's only happening to Viera but I thought I'd mention the Hrothgar as since they are more than likely being affected by the same issue. And while I have yet to check all the hats yet through my own personal playthrough of Puppet's Bunker I have noticed that at least 2 of the hats couldn't be worn by my Viera character.

I already know that Viera and Hrothgar cannot wear most of the headgear in the game and I can live with that until we finally get some news updates on that. But I was really hoping to get to try out all the new YoRHa gear in their full sets since the previous raid allowed Viera and Hrothgar to where all headgear.

Um, I'm not entirely sure what to say after this besides pleading with Yoshi-P if he or any of his people ever see this thread to make them accessible to the new races. So I'll just end my post there and just see what the rest of you all have to say about this.

Honestly I'm a pretty big fan of Nier: Automata and this sort of ticked me off to no end when I first made this discovery. xD

I mean you already knew that the new races will have limitations, what do you expect...? If you want to enjoy all the content, you either fantasia to other race to get rid of the limitations or quell your expectations each patch with the new races. Because it's been literally 1 year and the new races don't even have 1 new hairstyle implemented.

The reasoning behind the limitations was "it would take too long to make 1000000000 hats/helmets from old expansions." Not that creating Shadowbringers hats/helmets for the new races was a problem. I'd like to believe that they're not adding the Shadowbringers headgear for Viera/Hrothgar because they're trying to separate Hrothgar's face from their hair and once they do that they'll be able to add them for both going forth. But if that's not the case then we definitely have to question why new hats/helmets cannot be worn by the new races. Specially when it's inconsistent. 13/15 jobs have hats female Viera/male hrothgar can wear from that raid. We're here to let them know that we're fine with ears poking through hats, just like we're fine with horns poking through metal helmets/hats.

Mhm, I already mentioned that in my post above. Honestly, I just assumed all the YoRHa head gear for the Nier Automata x FFXIV event would be wearable by Viera and Hrothgar since I was genuinely surprised all the head gear from the first Raid actually worked on my Viera. xD

I feel the same way about the headgear and ShB. They'll more than likely add all new headgear and more older ones once the next new expansion comes out.

And about the clipping thing, I'd honestly prefer it if they just make holes on top of helmets and hats for Viera ears to poke through unless their far Eastern styles Strawhats. Then just have the Viera ears flattened down on either side, sort of like the Viera optional floppy ears except the top of the head is made completely flat.

As for Hrothgar, just make the headgear shaped to their ears like the Miqo'te.

I'd rather not have headgear clipping problems if it can be helped like with the Au'ra. ^^;

No it wasn't.

Their stated reason for the lack of headgear was that due to their unique designs, the new races would not be able to wear hats. As they put it, the choice was to either compromise on the character designs OR make them as envisaged but unable to equip hats.

It's not simply a matter of backlog. It's a design decision - whether sensible or not - that will continue to carry forward. They will be able to equip masks and circlets but there are not and never have been any promises on actual hats.

Refer to the last section of this Letter from the Producer. "Due to the special design of the Hrothgar and Viera heads, equipped headgear would not display".

Yup..another thread complaining about lack of headgear for Viera and Hrothgar.
Something we were already made aware was gonna be a limitation on both races from the start...

But, the big difference between the headgear in Bunker and the Factory, is that the headgear before was mostly face coverings. I think...2 types of headgear had a lil hat and a headband, which grossly clips on Hrothgar.
But now on Bunker, they are actual Hats, and both races have big limitations on actual Hat-like headgear.

I think what is angering people in this debate is that SE won't do it, not that they can't. We know it can be done, modders are doing it. For what ever reason the dev have drawn a line saying they are only going to render new headgear on 14 character models, not 16. It's a very odd stance to take.

Headgear is very important in Final Fantasy Job Identity. When you think about Red Mage, Dragoon, Blue Mage, Scholar, Ninja, or Bard; the hats are part of that image.

While all that's true, in the 'The Artwork of FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Look Behind the Screen' 5 months ago they talked briefly about the restrictions, sacrifices and trade-offs they had to make for these races like no hats, removing bits of armor to have enough memory to display everything (don't think they did that?), but they also said;

So if no hats ever is the design choice, which I know they've said, what is there to alleviate and make better in the future?

I'm not really familiar with 3D modelling or modding but I do know that one thing that people have brought up elsewhere is that mods can be more detailed because they only have to account for the computer of the person using that model, but the core game needs to be able to function on anyone's computer with the minimum requirements.

So, is it perhaps something about the complexity of the character models needing to meet those minimum requirements, where again "modders can do it" because modders don't have to account for anyone else?


Also the "working towards alleviating things" doesn't necessarily mean "we will make new hats work even if old ones don't". It may mean they are trying to find a more global workaround at which point all hats can work, instead of having to compromise on the design of new hats in the meanwhile.

Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't, we'll have to wait and see. I'm just saying they've clearly said they're going to do something, so these responses (not you, necessarily) saying "they said you'd get nothing and never said you'd get anything else ever so deal with it" just aren't true.

Unless this goes the way of Egi-glamour, in which case rip.

I do sincerely hope the devs try to make as many pieces of newly introduced headgear available for all races. If they can’t add the whole headgear than they could at least add any mask/visor portion of that headgear.

I’m gutted I can’t wear the new Shadowless Caster/Healer headpieces from The Heroes Gauntlet, but if they at least let us wear the Amaurotine mask portion of it (like the Aiming piece is) that would be a good enough consolation I feel.

I mean, you say that like 95% of headgear these days don't just outright delete our ears, even in cases when it would be completely fine to just let them clip through (I always hated the ear-sock look a lot of old hats have anyway). If they were still in the business of letting us have ears, I imagine it wouldn't be hard at all to adapt the headgear for Hrothgar and Viera by just moving where the holes show up on the model/texture (or, again, just letting them clip through. things clip in games, we're used to it). It is odd that apparently one of the dungeon helmets let's ears clip through, but I bet that is a bug. Either way, it's possible they could just have ears clip through (or hidden), but they are consciously choosing to hide headgear instead. It must just really look too bad to them.

They're not going to update viera or hrothgar to have hats bc 2b butts. Players got a small taste of what SE *could do*- it was a small light of potential of "Oh, so you're telling me I don't have to have the butt of an adolescent boy, but I can have an actual thicc butt?" If there was the same outcry for getting better hairstyles, updating the character creator to add better facial texture/ options for makeup/ a buldge slider, beards or body hair- you'd see it added ingame but instead, There was a larger outcry for butt sliders than there were anything worth noting, even more than people wanting male Viera & Female Hrothgar- SE *could* find a workaround to give Viera & hrothgar hats but they're not, they *could* add chest hair & beards & buldge sliders to male characters, but they're not, they *could* give players access to NPC hairstyles, but they're not but butt sliders or glams that have bigger butts? the mob outcries for that. right.-- but that's just imo.

I will admit, it is a small comfort that DNC and GNB aren't the only ones being crapped on this expansion as far as glamours go, but neither the new jobs or the new races should be getting crapped on at all.

They are lacking in both areas, yeah, though as far as attire goes that mostly comes from the gear being shared by multiple jobs of the same role. Nothing new though, and the other jobs have had similar issues at points in the past. It's just hard to find a set that really fits GNB aside from their job specific gear. Dancer is slightly better off though with armor sets/glamour sets, in my opinion, but that largely comes down to personal preference. Tanks have had a certain aesthetic for years now and GNB sort of conflicts with that. I think the Nier sets fit them pretty well though. Can't wait to get the latest one. It's pretty sweet.

Idk why people keep bringing this up, just change race if you want to wear a hat so bad.

But I will back you guys up on not getting a single new hairstyle in about a year now.

Indeed - and they did something. Right at the start of that paragraph - "glasses and so forth" weren't going to display either, so they fixed that. That is how they responded to people being disappointed about the complete lack of headwear and/or the specific lack of glasses and so forth.

Imagine attacking someone telling them their opinion isn't fact (no one said it was but many people in the game seem to agree with that opinion so that's something), being called out on it, and backpedalling while at the same time playing the victim and claiming their opinion is being attacked.
