Aight, you all can be an angry mob. I'll just be here, collecting my earnings from my contracted pitchfork vendors.

So...only one dungeon per patch as of 5.2 and beyond.
I fixed your post for you. ;):p
On a more serious note, I can understand why people get upset the live letters are not translated. It creates the impression one player base is preferred over the other as they get all information about the game delivered in a language they can understand at the time it’s announced. This is certainly not great customer service on SE’s end, and when customers feel they are not being treated fairly by a business they complain.
However, I also see the business end. Great customer service comes at a cost and there would certainly be costs to SE for providing live translations for more Live Letter. Businesses weigh costs versus reward. Are they going to lose customers because they don’t provide these translations? I don’t think so. Are they going to gain customers by providing more live translations? Also very unlikely. Therefore, there isn’t really a good business reason to provide this service, and businesses, especially big publicly traded companies, don’t tend to do anything there isn’t a good business reason to do.
So while it would be nice if everyone got the same level of service, I wouldn’t expect SE to change its current practices. It also doesn’t help any chance for change that a certain portion of the international player base is fine with the status quo.
Anyone understand what they're saying well enough to hear if the Borzja Citadel thing is an actual Relic weapon, or just Eureka 2.0?
I'm not looking forward the ranking aspect of the restoration as everything seems to suggest it's going to just be a straight brainless grind of spamming collectables which entirely favors people using bots as I feared. The "expert" recipes actually further encourage their usage as bots can adjust for the quality changes whereas a macro can't.
Only one dungeon per patch also means we're likely not getting hard modes from any SB dungeons, which is a bit disappointing since I liked getting a new twist on familiar places.
Everything else sounds good, though.
this was quite a good live letter, got more information than I was expecting with some surprises like the high sea fishing and crafter and gatherer relic gear. 5.2 shaping up to be quite a patch.
I took some notes.
Patch 5.18 arrives on 12/24.
This is the usual end-of-tier nerf patch which removes the weekly restriction on Savage loot and allows you to buy the weapon upgrades outside of Savage by using a Yohra coin.
Patch 5.2 title is Echoes of a Fallen Star. Coming mid-February.
- Sidequest: The Sorrow of Werlyt
- Trial: The Ruby Weapon
- Trial 2: ???
- Dungeon: Anamnesis Anyder
- Beast Tribe: Qitari (Qiqirn, DoL)
- Raid: Eden's Verse (includes Ramuh remix)
- Bozja Weapons: The new 'relics'
- Skysteel Tools: DoH/DoL get upgradeable quest tools too
- Diadem: DoL content, no battles, don't need fuel tanks
- Fishing: Ride a ship out to join new Ocean Fishing challenge
- MSQ and Ishgardian Restoration continue
System Changes
- Equipment is no longer destroyed when converting spiritbond into materia.
- Can meld materia without specific class reqs, only need to lv one DoH class to meld on all types of gear.
- YOU WILL NO LONGER NEED A DOH PARTY FOR FC PROJECTS, can finally complete building projects solo.
mogmog57 does live translation on twitch
Thanks for this.
Not thrilled about the savage change. Still means you need to do it to get the i460 wep but that's just a personal gripe of mine.
That very last one is good for smaller FCs who don't have more than 3 active crafters/players with craft classes unlocked.
So am I the only one thinking that I'm really happy that the patch is coming out mid Feb so I don't have to worry about which game to play when the 7 remake comes out?
Without a doubt. Only way to prevent bots from compromising rankings is with a cap on trade-ins while involving heavy RNG during the craft, but then why even have rankings? It won't only be open to abuse by bots, but friends and family that are fine with sharing accounts.
I very seriously doubt that on the materia lol. I could maybe see them giving crafters some kind of melding buff eventually in the same spirit as desyth buffs, but I doubt they'll take away the rng variable of burning materia on overmelds away entirely.
As to the market and data centers... also highly doubtful. The entire reason they re-purposed the data centers was to help balance load issues and deal with login problems. They're not going to undo all of that by allowing folks to jump across data centers as well. And the markets will be fine. Only the truly dedicated seem to actually go bargain hunting across the data center for the most part. Otherwise there's been a little bit of market adjustment, but I haven't seen a great deal of change to Jenova's market in general.
I wish OP edited this into their message, because this person is a blessing. No need to constantly swap between reddit and the stream, it was right there on stream.
And people don't seem to get that unless they have a script, a strict one, subs up to standard for their company will not be available. Like reactions to the chat or someone saying something out of left field. And translating a 14 hour stream with Ami would turn it into a 16 hour stream, not to mention how stilted it would become having her going between the like 10 people in the room when the core team said hello.
During E3, Yoshi P acknowledged VII and knows people will want to enjoy it. It's certainly intentional.
The melding process is perhaps the only thing that puts me off on crafting endgame stuff as a whole. I'd love some mercy system at least, for say like the third socket having10 fails guarantees a success on the 11th, the fourth slot being 20 fails, and the fifth being 30.
When a very large fraction of their paying player base doesn't speak Japanese, they should provide subtitles or some other means of translation. They're not a poor indie game company, they can provide translation. In fact, during one of the Japanese notes, we had those two translators basically voice over in English on the English twitch account (which is maybe what you're referring to?). Pretty sure they didn't do that last time which was the issue. Hopefully they do it again this time.
Whether it's voice over or subtitles, here's hoping we're not left in the shadows. /wiggles brows
I don't mind that they dont translate everything in these Live Letters, but they should keep the discussion behind each thing to a minimum until the slides are done. I've had multiple times they start to chat about something not on the slide and it ends up to be interesting, only for me to find it out later by someone else.
Anyway, pretty excited about some of these changes, especially the fc party requirement removal. Not entirely convinced that the Ranking system WON'T be abused by bots/people with all the time in the world or another to play while they are busy, but we will see.
I'm just gonna quote myself, it's easier.

This "argument" again? Remember the Volkswagen emission scandal? Who needs it in English? It's a German company that produces German cars and helds their presentations in German. Affected U.S. customers can get some random translation somewhere else, and if details are gone, whatever....
I am "mad" because I am actually interested in it.
I can't really see that in the post you quoted. They simply agree with the sentiment about not having an English translation but they can also see it from SE's point of view and completely understand. But you know, let's just label them American like it's a bad thing because it's the "cool" thing to do.
Also on the one dungeon per patch thing, hope they put more effort into the dungeon itself/trials/everything else to compasate.
