With Allied Seals made more relevant, I really feel like ARR hunts need changes.

Thanks to the new BLU vendor, there's now more relevant things to spend allied seals on outside of aetheryte tickets and ventures. Said seals are actually more valuable then their "greater" equivalent of Centurio Seals now due to being able to buy grade VII/VIII materia with them.

However, while the BLU content gives a decent amount of allied seals, there's still way more to be obtained weekly from ARR hunts, even if you stay strictly on your own server.

Problem is said hunts are so weak now that even the S ranks can be killed in the matter of a few minutes by a single player. It's not so problematic for the A ranks that respawn every few hours, but when it comes to S ranks it can be an extremely stressful ordeal when someone who spawns them has no guarantees they'll even be able to reach them before they're killed.

This has been made worse by the increased prevalence of third party apps that can detect and immediately/automatically relay the location of a S rank both to the user and associated Discord servers.

The main thing I'd want is for the ARR S ranks to have some kind of dynamic scaling that prevents them being killed quickly in the presence of players who severely outlevel them while allowing level 50s to face them as originally intended. It could be through a buff that only triggers if a player of an excessive level is within range of them, making them into special FATEs that force level 50 sync, etc.

I'd also like for hunt scholars to specifically mention whether a given S rank is still on respawn or has an open spawn window for the sake of preventing ill-meaning and/or greedy players from monopolizing them by being the only ones to know the exact time of death and by extension when they'll be off respawn.

I know a lot of people are fine with them as is, but as someone who spends a significant amount of time actually spawning/locating/relaying my server's S ranks, it's gotten progressively more stressful as time has gone on due to having less and less time to actually find a spawned hunt before it gets picked off by some random players (Which has gotten still worse due to cross-world travel letting in trolls who thrive off of doing this simply to upset people).

I honestly feel like hunts in general could be expanded into a much more fulfilling and entertaining group activity, but for now, some measures to help ensure they at least stay a group activity to some degree would be nice, especially if they're going to remain as lucrative as they are.

I like hunts the way they are.

Honestly I feel that some sort of hunt scaling should have just been a thing forever, at least for A and S rank.

I tend to not even bother with ARR S ranks because by the time I load in there's a 75% chance it's likely going to be dead anyway because you just need 1 person to decide "leggo" and it's dead in a couple of hits.

Like ideally, I think the hunts should scale by most recent expansion, so ARR A-S ranks show up at lvl 80 and so on. But if not that, then at least 1 expansion behind so they don't die to a sneeze.

Who spawns the S probably are the ones that can kill it without you noticing it have even been spawned.

Hunts were fine the way they were before crossworld because S rank spawners usually got to set to set pull time, and groups waited for most people to get there.
Crossworld honestly ruined it. What was once a fun in-game relay now forces you to use a discord otherwise you'll miss out. I had an experience Monday night before matience an S rank spawned while I was in the area. Immediately another group (who was not the spawner and from Shout chat were Wanderers) swooped in and killed it. Spawner got no credit. Trolls will also sabotage the SS spawns. Some S ranks disappear from tracking for ages.

At this point I'm in a Hunt LS but by the time they call an S it's dead, or if you help spawn what happened above happens. I just do Daily Hunts now, my love for this content has faded. I'm not sure what they can do to fix it, but it needs fixed.

They discussed the issue with making them into FATEs in an interview one time - apparently the FATE system wouldn't allow for the special trigger conditions that many S-ranks have.

I'm not sure if they'd be able to do a debuff within range of the monster. Maybe the entire zone, or a permanent level sync or something...

I spawn stuff regularly, but there's an ever-growing crowd of trolls who've been going around Aether DC and trying to pick off as many S ranks as possible without them getting a chance to circulate strictly for the purpose of depriving others (Most of them are level-skipped alt accounts). They generally ignore anything above ARR S ranks because they know they won't be able to kill them fast enough to prevent relays from circulating.

It's kind of sad that some people actually find this amusing enough to waste several hours on it every week and even money on alt accounts.

I mean, there's an easy solution to this: go find/track down the hunt yourself. You can't get mad when you're essentially (for lack of a better word) mooching off of somebody else's discovery, and think they're obligated to wait for you, a complete stranger, who, evident from your post, probably wouldn't be appreciative to them for waiting anyway. I mean, you gotta look at the whole picture here OP.

There was a post someone made here a while back that I really liked, it went something like:
"If the hunt was downed before you arrived, then there were enough people gathered."

I wonder if they could make it work like Eureka's Notorious Monsters, since they're basically reskinned FATEs anyway.

Curious question, but why are some people so adamantly opposed to ARR S ranks being made beefier? This has little to do with me missing the hunts (Since I'm present for about 95% of the ones that pop while I'm online due to either spawning them myself or monitoring them heavily to prevent the trolls from picking them off without me getting a kill time) and more to do with not having time to get friends together to take them down. I enjoy hunting as a social activity (Which it started off as for ARR due to hunts being too tough to take on without a large group) and just wish it could be that way for the ARR stuff again, but certain individuals are actively trying to keep that from happening.

It also can't be argued that the reward they give is a bit disproportionate for how little effort it takes to kill them now. They're actually more valuable then the stronger HW S ranks thanks to Allied seals having increased worth and also dropping Centurios.

I'm not opposed to it at all. They die laughably fast as things currently stand. S ranks should scale with the players each expansion imo.

But the problem is people ARE going out by themselves or in groups and spawning these S ranks and not even getting to them because they are getting sniped. If I miss an S rank from a relay, okay, nbd. But that, nah.

Totally agree. Would love to see the old spawns beefed up a bit. Always feels bad when somebody in my party is still on the way and I have to watch their dot slowly move closer as the hunt's health drops like a stone.

Did you miss the part where the OP said they spend a significant amount of time spawning/locating/relaying their server's S ranks ooooor...

Hunt spawn at current max lvl (aka 80) is not fair for people who only own ARR, ARR hunt content is suppossed to be still within their reach (though they probably dont care the hame much if they only have ARR and not the current expanssion), level sync is probably better choice

I wouldn't be opposed to them treating them more like fates. I dunno about actually making them *into* fates, so it might take more work to find a system that works, but I think level sync would help at least a little.

Also I'm not sure it's even possible, but a system where health scales up as more people hit the hunt could help too. Not perfect, but I think WoW did something like that for its world boss world quests? Idk it's been a while. I vaguely remember that being a thing. :P

I don't actively hunt like I did a while ago, but this was a problem even back in HW. My group would find or spawn something and then somebody else would pull it before my hunt group had even gathered, and we had more than once where the whole group didn't even make it in time. It's only even easier for that to happen now, with ARR hunts being punched through like tissue paper by level 80s. :(

Revamp hunts. Its current iteration is no longer optimal now that servers can be hopped. S Ranks especially should feel like a server-specific event, so adjusting them for level 80 characters would be a step up. People want more reasons to visit ARR zone anyway.

And because this sounds like another topic where we say its for the lv 50s that are out hunting but is about friends/ls members that are chasing relays and missing out.

Random roleplayers/BLU/sprouts in the open world can still find and pick off S ranks if they come across them first. Relays are a convenience, they are not mandatory. Waiting for others is a courtesy, it is not mandatory. If you spawn a hunt and want friends to make it, call the hunt in party chat and wait for your party to arrive before relaying it. If you want quick allied seals you're better off hopping servers for A's. If you want kills to count towards your tiger, any S will do. I don't want clunk added to a simple, rewarding side activity I've been enjoying for years.

As many as possible should get a shot to participate. Its not a requirement to wait 60 seconds, but are you really going to give other players the shaft, just because you want fast rewards? It shouldn't kill you to treat other players fairly. No, not everyone will get a chance at the hunt, but trolling is a problem. SE needs to overhaul the hunt system. Its an example of content that aged poorly

This is also why MSQ has unskippable cutscenes now. A "quick playthrough," even if new players get left behind.

Honestly, I don't get why people like them. All you do is run to a place, rush it, it keels over. There is zero strategy involved and it's mind-numbingly boring.

If anything they need to scale and have more varied attacks.

Open world mobs are free-for-all. It's simply courteous to relay and wait. It is not required. This is player expectation and peer pressure being applied for a desired response.

Everyone is treated fairly with hunts, you just have to actually go out and, you know, hunt. The issue with the “community” is that people want prizes to rain out of the sky while someone else does the legwork.

I am in 4 linkshells, and have been an active scout/relayer for years. I like getting the word out when I find a mark as I personally like getting relays in return and think it’s best to play it forward. It is, however, not mandatory and the only rule we have for hunts is that purposely resetting = reportable griefing.

The community on my server has some people that pull instantly. I’ve long accepted that making it to marks I didn’t personally find is a bonus, not a right. The less you feel like you’re owed a kill, the less stressful hunting gets.

This only works if you're not a cross-world hunt scammer. If you're not, kudos.

Kinda a general thought to throw out there, but like... it doesn't really matter if it's not "required" to wait, or if nobody is "owed" the spawns. There's absolutely nothing wrong with suggesting and discussing changes that would mean more people get to participate in and, yes, enjoy the content more often. People are always gonna miss out no matter what, but that doesn't mean things can't be changed for the better.

Especially looking further down the line. Unless SE changes how they do progression or the game stops adding expansions sooner than later, the level cap is gonna keep getting higher. Imagine how fast ARR hunts will die to a level 90, or 100. I figure it won't be too many expansions before HW and StB hunts melt as fast as the ARR ones do now. A sneeze three zones over would probably knock an ARR S down at that point. :P

I don't agree with fixing things that aren't broken, especially since SE loves to come up with overcomplicated fixes. The old marks give fluff rewards. Its fine if they die fast because we now have several means of earning their fluff rewards with room for even more means of earning them in future content.

New hunts are lv 80 and give rewards appropriate to lv 80 players. If you beef up old mobs, they'll eat the folks appropriate to the old zones levels alive. Devs have said that they cannot simply turn marks into fates, and Eureka's scaling works based on the # of people in an instance. At that point they'll have to come up with a new system, which seems like a waste when it'll only affect a handful of mobs.

The comment on seals/tiger kills were in regards to OP saying old hunts are now "valuable" and should be altered because of that value. My point was that they're not any more valuable than any other S rank. If those things are the main reasons you (general you) are after old S's, you have other ways to earn these things.

No one is saying it's wrong to discuss changes, but like with any suggestion, there's going to be push-back.

It's been said time and again by GMs that Hunts are open world monsters. They are free-for-all and the team encourages competition or something to that effect. The only thing against the rules is resetting them as then it's reportable for griefing.

The thing with getting more people to participate is the lag, because you know, that's always fun, vanishing mobs, slain because of vanishing mob, vanishing party members, which really sucks not getting heals because you vanished (though I think this issue is mainly gone now. Unsure). Plus, there is always that instance cap of 300. Even if ARR and HW hunts were to be 1-shot, with every new expansion comes more hunts. I don't see a reason to re-visit old mobs that give you old rewards. Rewards that can be gotten a multitude of ways. It just comes across as 'I'm upset someone did work to 'snipe' this mob and get credit that I wanted relayed to me and have a chance at, too.'

Again, that's players peer pressuring into a desired reaction. The GMs have already long weighed in the hunt discussion: Hunts are open world and free-for-all. Call it nonsense all that you wish, but when it comes to the perspective of a player versus the rules as said by a GM, I know who I'm listening to. Notice how they didn't specify an A or S or even a B rank. Players can be co-operative, but it's not required. Yes, S ranks have spawn conditions, but whoever finds them are not required to share it and are completely within their right by the games own rules to "snipe" it, even if they did none of the spawning requirements. Players can follow trains and instantly pull and if they can down it solo, or with a handful of people, it's completely within their right according to the game.

I'm saying referring to why the MSQ has unskippable cutscenes has no correlation to hunts whatsoever.

That's why I said what I did in my first post - because just saying nobody's entitled to the spawns or nobody has to wait comes off as kind of dismissive. Especially when the thread was started by someone who said in their first post that they actively hunt down those hunts themself. This isn't an "I want a shot at someone else's work" thing, it's an "I enjoy this content and would like to see its accessibility and longevity improved" thing.

It's totally fine to think hunts are fine as they are, and that it's fine for old hunts to just fall by the wayside. I don't agree with that though. To be fair, I don't know any game that doesn't lag horribly with 100, 200 or 300 players all using skills. Plus their minions and chocobos out because who dismisses anything anymore.

Fair enough. I'm not trying to dismiss suggestions, but I am trying to address the pushed player perspective of 'it's not free-for-all because of [reasons]' when there's documented responses that say otherwise from staff.

I just don't see a reason to touch hunts because that's resources I'd rather they'd use elsewhere. I can't say I'm a fan of the notion that someone that paid for HW runs into a Lv.80 A rank either and they can't even reasonably participate because they haven't bought the latest expansion or are geared up enough to not be 1-shot. That comes off as highly flawed at best.

Personally, if I were to rework hunting, you'd have to make a team of 8 and actually engage in track locating and following before being able to find a hunt and kill it. Think like a mini version of Monster Hunter World, minus the scout flies. Finding fresh or old prints and following certain ones lures out certain monsters with baits or scents that award different things other than the standard hunt stuff (think how different map floors award different things). It'd only appear for that group. You know, hunting.

Yeah that's fair. I totally get that it's free for all content, and whether SE leaves it as is or changes it there's always gonna be someone who's left out or just plain unhappy. I'm honestly not too fussed about it - there are a lot of things I'd love to see them fix first, too, honestly. This isn't at the top of my list, it's just something I'd like to see them take another crack at at some point.

I actually like that hunting idea too. I'd really like a system that's a little more involved than just waiting for respawn timers and checking spawn points, even if I'm not sure it's something they'd actually do.

Thinking about it, hunting right now feels a bit like hunting rare spawns in wow did, but with shorter and more predictable spawn timers :p maybe that's what gets me about this lmao. Flashbacks to all the times I spent days camping a rare only to have somebody else walk up and snatch it the second it spawned. :P

Anyway. Whatever SE chooses to do in the future, I hope it means we can keep enjoying hunts... or at least enjoying the rewards... and hopefully see some improvements somewhere down the line.

Honestly, if the bulk of these people trying to lowman/solo the S ranks were genuinely interested in the seals as opposed to just trying to deny other people the rewards out of spite, I wouldn't really care that much. Overall, it's really just a select few individuals who've devoted themselves to making hunting as unpleasant as possible for everyone involved (And lamentably succeeding for the most part). If they aren't around, it's not uncommon for the S ranks to just be left alone despite the zone-wide notifications and if I do find some random person trying to solo one, they'll generally stop and allow a relay to go out if I ask them, but I won't be that fussed if they don't.

I think the biggest thing I'd want overall is just the ability to check if a S rank's spawn window is open or not in-game because these trolls thrive partly on denying others the knowledge of kill times as it makes it that much easier for them to pick off the hunts in the future.

As someone who's primary enjoyment of the gameplay in this game is derived from spawning S ranks, a limited in-game tracker would work wonder for me.

I don't care if I miss my own spawns, I just wish the efforts to spawn old S ranks don't have a possibility to be completely in vain because the respective mob was stealth killed.

Old A ranks fading into obscurity isn't a problem, but I feel there's enough of a gameplay dynamic with past S ranks to justify some extra resources put into them to aid those who wish to still engage in the content.
