Fisher needs more love? I think so

Just as the title says I think the fishing class needs more love more customization. I love everything they have done but I think they can do more. What about making customizable chairs that we sit in while fishing. Some new reeling in animations. Maybe some emotes while fishing .. maybe just a wave without messing up your buffs. A more comprehensive fishing log. Some points for catching fish (not collectables) something exclusive to Fisher. Anyone else have any ideas ..

I wish fish would play a bigger role on the market. You can make money right now, but that's mostly from aether sands. And lock money maker behind folklore books and high level gear, make it rewarding to actually put some work into your fisher.

Overhaul the whole bait system. Make it more like the gig heads for spearfishing. Remove all baits but 6~10 in total. 3 for fresh- and 3 for saltwater, 2 for sky and 1 for sand fishing and 1 for everything else maybe? Make it so that they are unlimited and take no inventory space, just like the gig heads.

Put more informations about fish into the game. The fisher is basically unplayable without outside ressources like cat became hungry or garland tools. When these sites ever go offline we simply can't continue to play the class.

And yes add some exclusive rewards for catching the big fish, like mounts and minions. And for godssake rename the german titles for catching 100 and 200 different big fish! I know this is the english board, but they annoy me xD "Capitalist" simply doesn't cut it...

Aaaand add some new exclusive desynthesis stuff for fisher, at least after you overhaul the system next patch and we don't have to level desynthesis anymore... (wich is a change I don't agree with, but whatever).

I want a few more marketable fish. Naming a combat scrip item king salmon is a tail slap in the face.

Just one or two used in some recipie every even or odd update would be enough.

It feels like they want Fishing to be the "hardcore" DoH, riddled with RNG and with most information hidden so you need to research and utilize third party sites. Which is fine. But then at the same time, they don't want players to feel "forced" to do something aimed towards a small target group, so they deliberately give it much fewer marketable fish and items than the other DoL classes. It's not in a terrible spot, but it could be better if they weren't trying to please both non-fishers and fishers at once.

They have added spearfishing, wich is not hardcore at all. There is like 1 fish with a time restriction and that's it. Informations about the gig heads are hidden, but there are only 3 options so not too difficult to figue out the right one.

Spearfishing is the perfect oppurtunity to actually please both non-fishers and fishers. Spearfishing gets the marketable fish and fishing with the rod can keep it's hardcore status. And in fact they were on the right way with it in SB, but then they forgot to bring new spearfish additions in the patches...

And another problem are fisher retainers. Those retainers flood the market with the few usefull fish and the price drops to a level where it's not worth anymore to spend the time and fish it by hand. For example the price of the Sweetflesh Oyster dropped from 8k to 800 gil on my server, when the retainers reached level 80.

I think it would be nice if the fishing log allowed searches like the botany/mining logs. If its like that for the challenge of finding then just list what the fisher has actually seen.

more minions and fish that give glamor options or even be able to fish up more glamor items
i also wish fisher played a bit more of a role with Submarines or had a chance to even get the sub stuff

I feel like whoever is in charge of fishing/fish literally hates everybody. It's the only conceivable explanation for the fishing log being as ridiculous at it is. I mean two or more weeks between catching windows? REALLY? and then you give them extremely low bite rates coupled with extremely high escape rates? And usually the windows happen at like 3:40am on a weekday like people aren't sleeping for work. 4.5 fish additions were the ultimate slap in the face in my opinion. It was like we're just gonna make all these new fish borderline impossible.... Have fun! I have never had anything in a game have such a large discrepancy in difficulty when compared to other very similar cases. Like why only fishing? Why is it so easy to get Gold or other "Precious" metals stones etc, but a fish you gotta wait weeks and pray with every fiber of your being it doesn't escape if you somehow manage to actually get a bite. And yet we keep fishing lol

The difficulty is because the only reason those fish exist is to fill out the fishing log, which serves no gameplay purpose itself. If there was some sort of "precious metal" log for collecting rare gems that served no purpose except to fill out a gathering log, you bet your bottom they would have ludicrous restrictions to them too. In rare cases they later troll us by giving certain fish a purpose, like they did with the Warden of the Seven Hues, but those cases are extremely few and far between.

You know what, I would love a rare gem and rare flora log for the other gatherers too. Go big or go home!

I think that the Fisher class could definitely use a update. I've seen other classes get reworked and they are great. But does fisher get any new abilities or update on existing abilities? Nope. I've been trying to catch some of the rarer fish, and the way the Powerful hookset ability and the Precision hookset ability are written its literally the same description for both abilities the only difference is how much it costs. 74 gp and 85 gp respectively then combined Patience 2 560 gp. Its ALOT of gp being spent and if you can't get the fish well you just wasted alot of time and gp for nothing! Its very frustrating!:mad:

You didn't fish in 2.x did you?

With all the changes to the MIN/BTN logs you'd think they could update the fishing log and at least get rid of the ???s on all the normal, non-legendary fish.

I didn't. I leveled other classes instead. Its was only after I got fisher to 80 that I decided to go back and try to get all the fish I missed.

I agree they really should update the fishing log. As I said earlier Fisher is literally unplayable without outside ressources like "cat became hungry" and I fear the day that site will ever go offline.

I would reaaaaaaaaally like to see some better drop rates on food related fish. Or at least more bang for your buck when you identical cast/double hook. I sell food of various kinds as my primary gil earner, and I've been fishing up sweetmeat mussels for over a week now to get the quantity I need, and I'm STILL not done.

Granted I'm making a large batch to sell and a batch for own use, but still. As much as I like the identical cast/double hook combination, it would be very nice if we got more than 2 fishes for the expense of 750 GP. Heck, maybe it would entice people on my server or elsewhere to actually fish up the blasted things in quantities of more than 1 or 2 to sell! I mean that. No one, and I mean NO ONE, on my data center is selling the things in any quantity a culinarian can realistically work with even if they aren't crafting food to sell to others. Let alone for a decent price. My own server is the worst of the lot. And that new crafting food especially is extremely nice. The demand has got to be high, but the supply is practically non-existent.

If you are willing to use white scrip bait and pay attention your catch rate is close to 50%. And with identical cast/double hook you will catch way more mussels.

I just fished for them until my challenge log was done, first time so learning curve, 43 bait used, 32 mussels.

Yeah... amusingly I WAS using white scrip bait, paying attention, AND using that combo. So no. I don't think I'm barking up the wrong fish there.

Ray Chase, English voice actor for Noctis, just unlocked FSH. I would love to see him get real in tune with advanced fishing.

The demand is actually extremely low. Current crafting builds and rotations have no use for such a powerful food when NQ Blood Bouillebaisse does the job for just about any situation. The extra CP it gives doesn't actually allow for any sort of new superior rotation that would justify getting the food over cheap vendor-bought NQ food. You'd probably make more money selling HQ Blood Bouillebaisse.

I really hope they add some lucrative scrip fish like SB had.

Gathering scrips felt a lot less tedious when I could just go after one of those rare spawn window fish like Swordfish, Hak Bitterlings, or Wraithfish and rake in nearly 2K scrips from a 15-20 minute fishing session.

I agree it's about time to get more.

Fishing is less efficient than even collectables, due to how many worthless fish you catch while trying to land your target fish. This is frustrating for both grinded fish and rare fish.

I'm assuming the new deep sea fishing is going to be a major source of scrips.

Here's hoping it's actually more rewarding to people who know how to fish smart to minimize catches of undesired fish and conserve GP.

Jus’ finished gettin’ fisher ta 80 from 1 o’er the weekend. Hadn’t touched it since 2.0 ‘cause I remembered it bein’ rubbish. I was gonna make a thread ‘bout how the whole system is a huge piece o’ shite but how ‘bout I just post here?

My biggest problem, aside from systems of RNG on RNG? Useless fish. I think this be the dumbest part. Every time I was lookin’ for a leve fish somewhere and looked down the list o’ fish I can catch at a hole, it went like this:
-leve fish (this is the only thing it’s used for, by the way)
-shite ya can only desynth
-crap ya can only desynth
-garbage ya can only desynth
-trash ya can only desynth

Wow, thanks. That’s a 1/4 - 1/5 chance on every godsdamned cast of gettin’ somethin’ useful. Not what I want, just somethin’ that ain’t fine flippin’ sand! Ya know what’d be nice? If trash fish desynthed to somethin’ useful like:
-Generic fish chunks for cookin’ (imagine a recipe takin’, fer example, a whole bucket o’ Norvrant Fish Chunks)
-Generic fish oils for alchs
-Some kinda currency that ya can use fer stuff (fish scales ta trade sahagin? Who knows)

Not two crystals an’ some sand. Crystals ain’t even worth gettin’ this way ‘cause a how much time it takes ta break a fish. That too might be nice at least, an option ta automatically mulch a fish the same way ya can have it auto release. Especially since ya can’t desynth while fishin’...

Can they just make Fish Eyes as a trait Just like how Truth of the Mountains and Truth of Forest? Instead of "Press of a button" and consume a lot of GP?

1. A tackle box will be nice, so it won't be clogging up my inventory just by baits.

2. And maybe more Spears? Because we still using a lvl 60+ spear that only just has GP, but no other stats tied to it (Not the gigs)

3. Stop cancelling me on my Patience 1 or 2 and Fish eyes when it says "The fishes senses something amiss" (That could be a me only problem, but either it's quite annoying sometimes)

Consuming GPs is the point of fish eyes.

We are not getting a tackle box. They have made this statment clearly and often.

If we got more stats they would have to rebalance every fish in the game. But a L 80 gig with a few more GPs would't unbalance anything and would up our iL.

That is not a you only problem. We could get a warning message though.

I mean, I know that but there's other skills for FSH that I can use that also "consumes" GP. What other purpose does it have besides discovering "hidden fishes?" But overall I think it will be a nice change if it was a trait.

And that sucks that we aren't getting a tackle box, but that will be nice if we did.

You're not wrong and it is doing what it's suppose to do, but either way like I said, I will likely to have it as a trait but only imo.

In general I feel the vision for FSH has some compatibility issues with what is an interesting gaming experience VS what can functionally work in a user-friendly MMO where some enjoyability is afforded while simultaneously working towards some kind of virtual goal.

There is a fishing class all about going out there with your bait and your wits and maybe some hints from your angler friends about where to go on your journey to complete your fishing log and conquering the seas of Hydaelyn and perhaps worlds unexplored.

Then there is also the fishing class who just wants to get their custom deliveries done in roughly the same time frame as a miner or goldsmith would.

These are very different domains with very different design needs that they have been struggling to rectify. As it stands, whenever the game asks you to get a specific fish, you basically need 2-3 browser tabs to know the who, what, where, why, and how. You need a specific bait, in a specific place, a specific tug to look for, often specific weather, sometimes even with specific buffs you in turn only get by catching other specific fish. As someone who loves fishing in videogames I find FFXIV to have one of the most cumbersome implementations I have seen. Again, I think at least some of this is OK if we are talking about a completionist system (though even then some of the ideas are terrible), though they have had to really scale things back over time. I think universal baits is a good start in making FSH more accessible.

One (expensive) change I'd like to see them do is consider making fish generic like a lot of games have it, or honestly just how cooking often works IRL. I don't mean getting rid of fish, but changing the game so similar fish can sometimes be used in similar ways. So like, when I cook IRL, I can use a variety of different salmon as long as I understand their nuance. Doesn't really matter which kind I get. This is also how a lot of games work, like asking for "poultry" or "shrimp" for a recipe even if more specific ingredients exist.

Higher level would mean more quality, but for the most part for cooking and aquariums, you shouldn't need to find a specific kind of fish that for some reason is the only one that works with a recipe even though there are several that look exactly like it and no known toxic properties. I still think endgame collectables and master recipes should demand specific kind but for those who just want to fill an aquarium or start levelling CUL we should give them a break.

As it stands it feels like they add loads and loads and loads of fish every expansion and a lot of them are useless. Even when you get past the ones with no levequest and no recipe and no aquarium usage, they are so dang specific that there can't be something worse for a retainer to bring back or to dreg up trying to do your custom deliveries.

Lastly I'd also like to see if maybe some of the actions for spearfishing and angling can be unified.

For your weekly custom deliveries, all the fish needed use the Metal Spinner bait now. They have no weather or time requirements and bite frequently on the Metal Spinner. Also for all the fish except for the ShB ones (for some reason), the description of the fish tells you exactly where to go to fish for them. I've been using the fish turn ins for my alts for a few weeks now and I have found it just as simple to catch 6 fish as it is to get 6 collectibles with miner/botanist, give or take some RNG. Just use Patience II and go nuts.

Also, for 90% of the fish needed for crafting, your retainers can bring them back once you have caught at least one, so no need to deal with the fishing minigame there if all you want to do is just craft something.

That is cute dear but I am coming from a position of someone who spends most of my time on FFXIV with the trades. I know you mean well though I don't really need someone to mansplain the basics of it, especially when my post already praised the progressive addition of tackle to help streamline the experience not unlike what you mentioned. My post is not asking for someone to teach me how to swim across the river, but a commentary on how the developers should build a bridge, in the same vein they made the crafters and other gatherers easy to get into. I want to see FSH get a lot of love and expand the depth in ways that are more meaningful and fun, and I hope the new voyages they are adding are going to be easier to pick up and play and relax for people just getting into it.

Not sure what I said to get such a ridiculously condescending response, but the things you mentioned as problems I explained are not problems any more thanks to the Metal Spinner and retainer ventures. Big fishing is still big fishing for those that want the challenge and RNG, and "just for the scrips/crafting" fishing is as easy as it can be.

The "bridge" is already there and it is very wide and easy to cross. Casual fishing for non-fishing purposes is braindead easy, fishing for regular fishing log entries is also very easy, with very few non-big fish having annoying requirements, and then there is big fishing at the end of the bridge. We don't need more things to get people into fishing at the bottom, nor do we need more ways to get them to max level with fishing experience especially receiving huge boosts. We need more rewards at the top besides Go Big or Go Home, and more variability/control when it comes to how we catch big fish. I agree in the hopes that this Deep Sea fishing will be that thing that puts a new spin on fishing.

How about a new fishing gig with a TEA theme for the next catch ‘em all achievement?
We got UCoB and UWU rods. But our off hand could use some pizazz!

I mean I’ll take it in rod for too, more people see that. But hey, I wanna get giggy with it again.
