Stuck on Quest: Acht-la Ormh Inn

The quest states to use the Duty finder to confront Titania in the Dancing Plague. I lost count after 8 or 9 queues. If people don't drop immediately on entering, they wipe once then do a vote to abandon. I've just spent 6-7 hours literally just re-queuing over and over. I am unable to advance in my quests at this point. And since it is a main story line, I am assuming I will be unable to progress and should just go play another game at this point. Am I correct,or missing something?

You could try recruiting in Party Finder. Hopefully you'll get some patient folks willing to help out as opposed to DF which will likely give you people hoping for a fast roulette.

That sounds like really bad luck. As Moomba said, try party finder if you keep having bad luck, be sure to mention its your first clear to attract people for wonderous tales

After two days of chain queues I have finally passed this obstacle. These groups were absolutely atrocious. You had some groups that would zone in and literally not say a word or do anything until the counter reached the 45 minute mark and they would all disappear. You have groups that would do I pull, then all leave. You had groups that would just drop the moment they entered the instance. And there was always that one person complaining that the rest of the group was not over a 400 ilevel and the other one complaining about how he was doing over 75% of the groups DPS.

I don't know how this instance was tuned, but it was not done with fresh 73s still using level 72 gear at 395 ilevel. Mind you this is a level 73 instance. Complete trash. Would not recommend. I was resigned to cancel my sub over the frustration of this quest at the end of this day if I did not have any progress. I have no interest of paying a sub just to sit in queue for hours while people move in and out of groups. #entireweekendwasted

Just to add. As the players were just jumping ship at the mere sight of this place it tells me that this is a very common issue for a lot of people. Who is asleep at the wheel of the development team that they have not taken any action whatsoever to fix this?

I mean, im sorry you had an issue clearing this trial. Ive heard a few people mention its difficulty, but ive personally seen not witnessed it. My story clear happened fairly easily(we came close on the add phase DPS check, but the rest was smooth), and anytime ive wound up there via the trials roulette the fight has gone fairly smoothly. I would tell you(based on past experience) that the 5.1 patch will likely expand the echo buff for these instances making it easier for players later on to fail their way to a clear. Not sure what else they can or will do. In general though, the advice from Moomba and Stepjam is solid. If you find yourself getting bad groups and struggling, put up a PF listing. There are plenty of experienced players that are happy to help newer players catch up, or at the very least people who will run anything for a new-player bonus(i know im guilty some weeks).

I havent seen one abandon of The Dancing Plague, even though people were often expressing their unhappiness to get this trial - mainly, and this is funny, because a huge amount of the playerbase isnt able to deal with mechanics properly.
While I'm sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience with this trial, I wouldnt say its a common issue - or at least not an issue on EU-servers, since I cant talk about the NA ones.

I'd like to ask you however: What are the desv supposed to do "fix" this? Dumb it down even more, so people have to worry even less about the person who doesnt understand the simple mechanic of not standing in an AoE?

There's nothing wrong with the dancing plague other than it isn't 100% faceroll. The dps check is a bit tight for a normal trial, but nothing THAT intimidating. Worst case scenario, you use a ranged LB to soften up the adds. As long as the tanks remember to grab agro on the middle and left adds, its nothing that can't be done.

I didn't expect Titania to become the new shinryu though, I gotta say.

I already mentioned my suggestion. The dps check is too high for fresh 73's using level 72 gear.

I respectfully disagree - the dps-check might be to high for "fresh" level 73's who despite reaching level 73 still dont know how to play their jobs and deal an amount of damage that would have been acceptable during HW. We need more content that lets people know they need to step up their game a little bit - please note that I am not talking savage difficulty! I'm merely refering to my paladin out-dps'ing about 30% of the dps I encounter and thats not okay.
We need to stop asking for such nerfs each time someone hits a little bump - I'll admit that yours appears to be extreme. Nerfs like you're asking is what leads to people not learning their rotations and being utterly surprised when they try their hands on EX-primals and Savage and are being removed from groups because they're being out-dps'd by healers.
I understand that a lot of people only play for the story but that doesnt free them from doing their jobs properly - they'd have to do the same in a single player game. Having a reminder that you not only need to improve your level and gear but also your personal skill is something I'd like to see more of, not less.

Bismark(lvl 57) was the hardest trial in heavensward, not because it was poorly tuned but because people couldnt pay attention and follow the 2 or 3 simple mechanics.
Susano'o(lvl 63) was the hardest trial in stormblood, not because it was poorly tuned but because people couldnt pay attention and follow the 2 or 3 simple mechanics.

Rising i-levels helped smooth the fights out, but the complaints settled down before this could have been a factor. Preach it!

The most trouble I had with Titania NM was during a run where people didnt understand the simple mechanic of standing in a water puddle with the stackmarker - despite it being explained. They didnt get it the second time said mechanic happend either - despite it being explain again.
The problem with this fight - as with the other MSQ-trials - is never that its to difficult or asks to much... its people who struggle with something simple as standing in a specific spot...

As others have stated, the trial is absolutely feasible. I was one of those people who did nothing with my weekend but play this game at the early launch of shadow bringers. My first party wiped 4 times before clearing, each time getting better. The second time we wiped twice. All of this was with random players. I did it again a few weeks ago and people bailed immediately. We still cleared after one wipe.

It's unfortunate that you've had such terrible luck but it's one of those fights where all players involved are tested and expected to perform well. Clears will get more consistent as more people become familiar with it.

You know, I'd actually like to see both - more challenging solo-content so people cant get the message of "its YOU who needs to improve" but also slightly more challenging - but still casual - group-content that gives you a rewarding feeling for knowing your job.
The problem is basically what you quoted: There arent nearly enough fights that actually test the player and let them use their skills in a way that makes them feel like it matters. If we only get one fight (a fight thats hardly worth repeating because there is no reward - so for some people it will really be only ONE fight) like that every 6-9 months its no surprise that people arent feeling like they need to learn their jobs.

The game needs a better learning curve and a better, individual feedbacksystem. Removing fights that at least let a group of people know "Hey guys, you're doing something pretty wrong!" isnt the answer. Those fights are the beginning of a solution, not the problem.

It really isn't. I cleared it a few days after launch with randoms without too much difficulty.

And as I said, you can use a limit break to make it smoother if you are worried about making the check. LB can be used for more than emergency rezing and free damage. Use it as needed.

You seem to be referencing an end game dungeon that involves min/maxing. I'm talking about a level 73 dungeon in the story with a group of random people. If it was a solo event, I could see a challenge, but I can't force the rest to do their jobs. This isn't even end content. I shouldn't have to sit in queue for 2 days with a multitude of groups that just drop at the sight of the dungeon. There is something systematically wrong when so many just leave without even trying. This is a level 73 event.

I've never once seen anyone leave Titania normal, and have always cleared it even with several people who clearly didn't know what was going on. I think your anecdotes are unlucky, but just that. Anecdotes.

They key word here is "after launch". I suppose the majority of your group was in high end gear from the previous expansion. I am what you may consider a casual. I run through the content, and end sub till the next expansion. I don't stick around to grind out the highest of gear and I suppose there are also more like me that just recently came back and we are entering this level 73 dungeon with just the recent quest gear. I don't believe it is tuned to the quest gear, maybe closer to the high end gear of the last expansion so those entering it for the first time now are probably struggling.

People were literally leaving in hordes. I can not stress enough that I would sit in a queue for 20 minutes, enter this dungeon and literally just stand there for 15 minutes waiting for the counter to countdown and watch people leave without ever pulling. And when they did pull, there was an immediate exodus after we wiped. Someone mentioned something earlier about NA and EU servers, I am on NA.

It wasn't that hard at the beginning of ShB because most people who played are familiar with basic mechanics and their class. However, lately a lot of Players (who assumingly only know how to buy a skip potion from the mogstore) leveled up and have major issues with this fight. I ended up there several times with Trial roulette (probably because it is in such a high demand right now).
And as a good mentor I try to be, I explain the fight over and over and over again to all the six sprouts, who are there with me. I set up marks, I tell them to stand in puddles, to stack together with stack marker, to tank the adds and to not face Titania in the raid for a killing spree.
So... besides the whole DPS issue and the enrage timer.... I've seen it all... Tanks not caring for adds, stack makers with only four people, always at least one puddle where noone is standing.... And I'm patient. Most of the time we are doing this for 40 minutes straight with NO progress whatsoever... I don't mind a wipe or two or three. But if people don't adjust - especially after I'm telling them what went wrong and how to avoid this and you are still on P2 and can't get past the adds... Please, don't blame me if at some point I vote abandon.

Looking for a PF group to help you out would be much easier at this point. I don't think that Titania needs adjustments - I just think that the skip-potion-community finally realizes that mechanics are something you should start to do.

You seem stuck on the idea that this makes a big difference. Lets do a quick item search. There are 3 ilvl 400 shirts in the game for BLM. You have the one from the last set of savage raids. You have this one which is from the last tome set after you upgrade it. And finally theres the one that comes from the level 73 dungeon you fight before this trial. Theyre the same, but with different sub-stats(and the new one actually has the set i would want most, so much for the old raid gear). If we look at the next tier down, there are 6 sources for ilvl 390-395 shirts. You have two from eureka(arguably the best because they have more materia slots), one from the last alliance raid, an un-augmented tome shirt, an augmented crafted shirt from the last tier*, the drop from the level 71 dungeon you recently cleared, and the crafted 395* that you got in a quest crate(but as a crafted item, anyone with the appropriate skill can just crank out more). The difference in stats here from 390 to 400 is 20 int and 10 defense(the 395 sits halfway in between). So even if they tuned it assuming that the players would have top stormblood class gear, that gear is essentially the same strength as the stuff youre getting in the 2 previous dungeons and from the quest crates. And honestly, i wouldnt be surprised if its actually tuned lower then that. The game requires you to have ilvl 360 to complete the last stormblood duty. If i had to make a bet, id bet that they tested it closer to 360-370 then they did to 400. Gear isnt the issue for most, its the people who cant follow a 1 2 3 rotation, get hit by every aoe, dont grasp mechanics like stacking(or tricky ones like "stand in the puddle during the fire attack"), and die constantly. Not lack of gear, lack of skill.

*Crafted comparisons are using the HQ version of the item, not the nq. This(the hq) is the version that comes from the crates.

I had the scaevan gear, which you can currently buy with poetics rather easily now.
And if you had 395 gear, thats a 5 ilvl difference which is not that big in the scheme of things.

Also I want to add that Titania is not comparable to Ex and Savage content. It really isn't. All it has is a dps check that requires players to know their rotations and not be asleep at the wheel. Not too much to ask for 3 expansions in.

I'm sorry if you had that many disconnects and failed parties, that really sounds like bad luck. But there's nothing wrong with the fight itself.

Most over-tuned trial in the game. Now that most of the advanced players have moved on from MSQ, it's almost impossible to complete. Wipe after wipe after wipe after wipe after wipe. Hours spent queuing. Repeated soul crushing disappointment. I've actually given up on it and will leave my MSQ on my alt Kungpao Kitty never to be completed. Got lucky with Kitty Punch, but if this was the first time going through it, I'd probably just let my sub go and move on to some other game.

I've encountered melee DPS in Inno EX (meaning they beat Titania NM) that don't use DoTs. Carries will always be a thing. The content doesn't make players better and only shifts the burden onto others.

Maybe so, but does that mean that all normal content should be absolute faceroll? Even if Ex and Savage are where things get serious, I do like story mode content to not be totally braindead.

I get that you're frustrated because you had really bad luck and it cost you a weekend but Titania isn't overtuned.
Most of the mechanics are self-explanatory: you see an aoe marker, you get your butt out of there. You see various circles appear, you stand in the last one spawning and move to the safe zone as soon as the first blew up, which everyone has already seen during the Shiva and Tsukuyomi trial. The one with the stack up marker should stand in a puddle but even if that fails, decent healers can heal through such a fail because it's not a wipe. It's a ton of unneccessary damage but managable.
The only thing that needs to be done correctly is that everyone switches to whacking the adds the moment they spawn and that can be softened by using LB on them.
When I did it for story progression dps was definitely on the low side and we had a lot of people failing at the aoes so both my co healer and I spent the majority of our time healing with barely time to dps but we passed the dps check.
All Titania requires is for 8 people to not be semi-afk. There only 3 things aside from the usualy dodging people need to do: stand in the puddle with the marker, switch to adds asap, move to the safe zone during frost rune.
You can even eat one hit from the frost rune and survive (unless you've already been really low), it's just running around like a headless chicken that gets you killed.
I'm not saying it's faceroll-level: MSQ Ifrit. But it IS perfectly doable for a full group of 73s with level-appropriate gear and without relying on healer dps.

The correct way to do this so the least amount of damage is taken is to have everyone but the main tank stand in the last circle to spawn just outside of the inner circle. Once the inner circle goes off, the entire stack moves forward into the inner circle a couple steps to soak the stack together while taking no damage at all from the circles. If the main tank stacks with the party during this it is very possible they'll cleave the stack with the boss's frontal cone attack so they'll need to pick a different circle other than the one the party is gathering in.

I think you got it wrong... What you quoted was the the flame run/ water puddle mechanic where you stack up in a puddle.
The frost rune, which you were talking about is a different mechanic. That's the Shiva/ Tsukuyomibstyle mechanic I mentioned.
So...not really sure what was wrong with what I said. I think you just got me wrong? Not sure though.

You put those two mechanics in the same line so it sounded like you were saying that the person with the yellow stack marker that goes off during the frost rune attack should soak up one of the frost rune circles. I can see now you meant those to be separate lines like you separated the rest of your post.

Maybe it's just a Primal datacenter thing and/or unlucky weekend. On Chaos I see more clears than abandons on this trial. Rate of maybe 15% of groups that cannot pass it, although it's quite common to not one-shot if there's a bunch of first-timers. Once people have seen what happens and don't die to aoes then the dps check is usually met. I think these kind of trials get the echo added to wipes after they've been in the game a while so it will be indirectly nerfed and also as it gets older you're more likely to be partied with roulette people synced down to the maximum gear level who have experience.
