the viera and the hat

question is really hard to make it look like bard hat won't work for a Viera

this is my Miq'ate she has her bard helmet with ear stick out through the bard hat question is possible to make some Viera gear have they ears stick out of they helmets such as this I mean I think some of bard gear and other would work this way. if fact they do this in wow for the Draeina it not unbelievable for them I don't think it won't be out normal to punch two holes for Viera ears.

It's less that it isn't doable and more they just seemingly didn't have the time to edit the meshes before the expansion dropped. From my understanding we're eventually going to get more headpieces retroactively added in for Viera/Hrothgar but only when the art team has the time to do so.

They can't (won't) even do hairstyles. I don't think hats are really on their radar.

We all know Viera can wear hats. It's just that going through hundreds of pre-existing hats/helms that weren't designed for the bunny ears is a time consuming process.

Incorrect. They've already stated they'll be making some legacy haircuts available for viera along with some new racial ones. They've also stated they'll be adding in more headgear.

I don't see how that has any relevance to the conversation at hand, and considering I like mine, zero.

They won't do proper earholes for hats, even if they do add hats. God forbid they add helmets, au ra horns clip through the sides, and miqo'te ears only show up on a select few hats. Miqo'te helmet/hats hide the ears and just have 'ear armor' instead.

Reality is that Viera doesn't work well with regular headgear. "Our" ears are super long and just hide or use those caps that Miqotes and Elezen had from time to time is a no-no. So, while I'm pretty sure we are going to get more hairstyles and headgear is still going to be a limited selection, and I get it, adding the holes to certain hats will almost "delete" the hat.

And yes, only SE is to blame here for adding races but not be willing to fully adapt the gear for their unique characteristics like was the case for 1.x

I'm assuming they'll stick to their word and do as such. Do I expect every piece of headgear? Not in the slightest and I don't recommend anyone else assume that either. Good reply, I totally agree. Especially the first ears which aren't sticking straight up, and the floppy ears. The selection will always be extremely limited, and the work required to make it proper will probably never be done.

Yes, I made an innocent hyperbolic post about hair - which wasn't off-topic since I correlated that to the hat situation. You came with a reply of me spreading false information, you continuously reply to me and others in a personal manner, have also done so in other threads, but I am looking into this the wrong way.

Viera's new headgear? It's just going to be circlets, crowns, face masks - no hats. Platitudes about them adding more hats are just that. This thread is about hats, specifically ear holes added to the hats - the proper way to actually add them.

The reason I responded to you was: is not hard to understand that Churro is salty, and he/she is right about being salty, with SE with how they have cut corners with the two new races. It's clear that he/she knows more hairs and headgear is coming but is still a limited selection. If you happen to like certain hairstyle or headgear and it's never added... bad luck.

I'm not sure what part of this you are taking personally, but be rest assured that my words are lax and not pointed. You made a post that was pointed at me after I simply told you that the information you posted was incorrect. I am someone that doesn't enjoy the sharing or spreading of incorrect information. As for the types of headgear we'll be getting, only SE has that information and can confirm it. If it's circlets, masks, or crowns, so be it. But as of right now we don't have that information. We just have "We'll be adding more headgear. Please look forward to it." Basically. If you've read ToS then you're aware that inciting an argument is against it, which you are currently doing. To avoid further confusion and misunderstanding, my stance is this; We don't know what they have planned in regards to specific headgear, hairstyles, and the alleged new faces for Hrothgar. We don't know if they'll add ways to change Hrothgar options through the Aesthetician. Hopefully all of these things are addressed appropriately and everyone gets hats. That's my piece. Ah, I understand your point more clearly. Thank you for the clarification! I do agree that it's fair to be upset towards SE for things as long as we're also aware that they have at least acknowledged that SE is going to attempt some manner of "fixing" it. Whether or not that will be a good solution, we can only hope for the best until we find out.

I don't know if the process of doing that is the part that takes so long as much as it is getting the product through QA and such. However I won't pretend to be an SE employee and try to justify it or claim I know how it works. Hopefully they come up with a speedy yet quality solution.

The mesh needs to be resized to fit each head and hair, then the textures need to be applied so that they don't look stretched. Then they need to put all that in game and test it to make sure nothing wonky is happening when the mesh meets the lighting engine and nothing is tearing at the seems depending upon the camera angle. If you've seen screenshots of some of the attempts to mod textures and meshes into various games - or hell just played modded Skyrim - you've probably come across instances where a giant black/various colored triangle just random appears for no discernible reason during gameplay. Play testing and making sure the mesh is rigged properly can catch this, but it's also why it isn't a 'wham bam thank you ma'am' change.

All this is a bit of work in and of itself but then you add onto it the sheer volume of hats this game has and it becomes a huge issue the art team didn't have the time for before the expansion dropped. Then when you take into account the very much needed break the team likely took after the expansion dropped - especially for the art team which was already in crunch but then decided to crunch /HARDER/ to give us even the head pieces we have in the game now for these two races, and it makes sense why we haven't heard about any updates till this point.

To me, and this is purely speculation on my behalf, I have to wonder if the assortment of ear options for both races poses a new challenge to them when regarding helmets and hats. Both Viera and Hrothgar have multiple ear shapes, some not similar to the others. *looks at the bent viera ears* But maybe those pose no issue and I'm way off! Who knows?

Perhaps this is a naive question, but they managed just fine with Au Ra, which I assume took some tweaking of meshes and textures. Why can't they do the same with Viera? A new race is obviously going to take effort, and at this point it just feels like Viera were incredibly rushed.

I could understand if they couldn't meet he Shb deadline, but now that we are past the launch, why cant they go back and start work on fitting all hairstyles and hats to the new races? I'm really struggling to understand this one.

Perhaps they've already started work on some of these things? Obviously none of us will know unless one of you works for SE and can give us the confirmation. But I would like to think they've started work on some of these aspects, even as a background project while they focus on the new raids, dungeons, and balancing. Might be a naive hope, however. They're likely still very busy! :)

Back then, they had only one race that had the same challenge (the ear-horns) and only the ARR and HW gear to fit. Also, the horns have all the same attach point, are immobile and have the same tapering profile near the head. With vieras and hrothgars, they have a lot more gear and two very different races to work with (even if functionally they are both "half" the job because of the missing gender). It's harder to explain why vieras are so difficult to complete regarding hair styles. It's easier for helms and hats tho. Ideally, the ears would poke from a place that make sense for each piece of gear and wouldn't have the ears move into the metal sheet of your helm (though, with how all the tails clip, I don't see this as a strong argument)..

Of course I am. They come out with 2 half races, no headgear, extremely limited options, and hrothgar cant even change the hair without a fantasia. They are stuck with what they chose initially, and the chose to let them be able to change fur patterns that you can barely see, and even when you can most outfits have a chestpiece covering it almost completely. If they can't even do hairstyles on the full release of the races they have claimed are complete, I hold little to no hope they will put in the time or effort to make hats for viera heads - at least properly (not just clipping).

It is not all over the place, some hats do have holes for miqo'te* ears such as the sun hats, others like many of the bard hats, have ear points sticking out of the top of the hat, or ear armor; slots to put the ears in. Effectively, the ears are just hidden. Someone who has played a miqo'te extensively (like me) and used these hats can confirm this.

Doubtful. Miqo'te ears are smaller, and more on the side of their heads - they are also all one shape. Viera ears are varied, and some of them could be more difficult to implement properly without them looking odd. Not to mention viera ears have a slider that enlarges these ears.

Based on statements made, it sounds like some of the styles and head pieces are being worked on, but they're not bringing over everything. That is he odd part to me.

I found it bizarre that they knew Viera and Hrothgar were coming out but that the AF headpieces were made to be incompatible with them. I have limited expectations for any updates to the hair/hat situation for Viera because things that would make sense seem to be too much to do for some reason. I have limited expectations for Hrothgar too. I wish they could get new hairs because I find that too many of the few Hrothgar I see look too similar and I would like my Hrothgar character to stand out more. However if with every new hair I have to buy more fantasias then I will have to revert him to Roegadyn because that is asking to much from me.

Honestly speaking? I think they took on more than they could chew and just flat out ran out of time. During the fanfest when Hrothgar were unveiled it was revealed that the models had only /just/ been made presentation worthy the day before, and when the Viera were likewise showcased for the first time you'll noticed that each literally has almost the same exact face as the others with just slight variations. Given how different Viera face models actually are it seems odd that for the reveal trailer what we're shown is basically just one preset out of the four, unless the other three weren't even ready to be shown at that point. Now as to whether or not this was an upper management problem or a problem with the art team is unclear, but I very firmly believe that if they held the races back another few months most of these issues likely would have been fixed.

They flat out just make excuses, and put it off. Yeah, as a hrothgar you might as well just fantasia to ROE rather than switch to a different hair/face. You would get not only hairs back, but all headgear as well.

That, but the fact they have doubled down, accepted the races as limited rather than overcoming those limitations, and settled give us placations instead. Not what I like to see. Missing gender, missing headgear, missing hairstyles, and more!

While I understand why stuff took so long and why things will continue to take awhile to fix, I very much wish they had held the races back instead of pushing them out in this state. I get the point of new races being an expansion seller but if your poor art team has to double-crunch just to fix an issue that poor planning brought about then you really need to consider whether or not it's worth releasing the product in the state it's in. People would have been mildly upset about the delay in the races being implemented but I think the majority of us would have been accepting of the reason if we were told about it up front.

Considering the modeling/mesh team used their personal time to enable the use of glasses before launch is a sign of good faith. Like many I have my suspicions as to SE keeping their word. Yoshi P had said things in the past and they've never been done or have been done in a half-assed manner just to make people stop whining for 15 minutes.

I'd like to think they'll keep to their word, but the history of SE doing things they say is more than a little shaky at best.

I just want the extra hairstyles from drop and MGP are available to use for Viera.

I wouldn't really be surprised at that considering that the Fran that appeared in game was likely a reuse of her model and animations from Zodiac Age. The Viera in the trailer were pretty much just Fran with different haircuts and hair colors.

I'm pretty certain the models with ear holes are legacy 1.X models.

Most of the ear pockets/coverings/armor is actually them cheating a bit. I remember seeing a image comparison that showed that the pockets don't actually line up with Miqo'te ears for several models.

One of the big problems is that all 4 of the Viera ear types need different holes. Even the two different straight ear styles would pop out of head gear differently.
