A popular MMO reviewer gave FFXIV Shadowbringers the thumbs down o.o

I feel bad for all the ppl who were thinking of trying FFXIV but gave it a pass after watching his review.

Edit: LazyPeon took down his review video after receiving more dislikes than likes. But someone from the FFXIV community made a reply to his video.

I don't think people really sit on the fence when it comes to MMOs. You either like them or you don't.
The modern ones at least, you know what you're going to get and would try the trial if you had the slightest interest in them.

Look at the comments on that video. A lot of people clearly disagree with that dude. I wouldn't worry.

Do you read all the comments below in the video? They were all positive towards FFXIV. And from what i read the person that made the video payed to skip ahead. And he is complaining on the focus towards endgame. #fail

People care what lazypeon thinks? I never liked the guy or his videos when he was making WoW content and I still don't like him.

This game has a very marmite feeling to it, you either like it or you don't, he doesn't like it, so what, plenty of others do.

Just from the title alone, everyone who have played ffxiv know he is full of it.

Also he says out of 160 hours ( think it was, can't bother to find where in the video he said it ) he only had 4 hours of "fun" .. like .. right .. cause that is what anyone would do "oh i'm so not having fun with the game, let me just put in 156 extra hours"

This guy clearly didn't like the game from the get-go, yet he continued on anyway. His review is a reflection of that, and he honestly should have just stopped playing in the first place and not given this really, really poor quality review. He's got no idea what he's talking about.

That guy isn't worth their time. I say leave it up so he can make even more of a fool of himself.

MMOs and reviewers have never really...worked correctly together. MMOs demand so much time that a review can't really get into. And "MMO reviewers" are almost worse, because they're now trying to spend that much time on multiple games that demand that much.

It's unfortunate, because that time investment means potential players are in need of good reviews to help them decide if it's worth getting into. A difficult problem to solve for sure.

it would make SE look bad if they took down or requested a video taken down because it wasn't good

I hope anyone looking at that as a serious opinion would notice it has almost a thousand more dislikes than likes.

This has nothing to do with ShadowBringers, and everything to do with ARR solely. He literally has no clue what he is talking about. Finishes ARR whining about it the whole time, but buys a story skip AFTER he finishes ARR, and says he did the "smart thing". His commentary is awful as well. Worthless.

However, I did bring up how awful the ARR leveling experience can be for new players about 2 months ago (on these forums), and how more and more expansions that force you to go through ALL of the story (without paying for a skip/boost) will become bloated and daunting for many a new player.

Someone like this "reviewer" never had any interest in this game in the first place. They stop playing WoW, but all they want to play is WoW, so why don't they just play WoW?

I stopped watching TheLazyPeon a while back because he never seemed to "get it" when it came to most MMORPGs. At one point I decided it was willful just to drive views and left him behind. He's irrelevant.

Agreed, it's perfectly fine to dislike a game. SE is never going to please everyone. But if someone is going to give a review it'd probably help if they knew what they were talking about. And TheLazyPeon clearly does not. This video makes himself look bad, not the game or SE.

I actually enjoy WoW, mostly for PvP.

What many of these people want is just WoW, then trashing anything that isn't exactly like it. This isn't about like or not, this YouTuber masquerades as a reviewer, but this is barely even that. Don't get me wrong, as I said in my post, the ARR leveling does suck. He isn't wrong about how bad it is. I was shot down in my thread a couple months ago for saying such.

What I am saying is this isn't a proper review, and this YouTuber obviously didn't do anything but mess around, and do story. He didn't review aspects of the game. It is a 'lazy' review, in my opinion. A proper review should encompass the full scope of the game.

Well, the fact that he has more dislikes than likes, I think its clear to say people don't agree.

I still like his video's though, they're funny.
But FFXIV clearly isn't his type of game, though I honestly take offense to him saying the story is shit lmao. But to each their own XD

From watching a lot of video's in the past, its clear he prefers a spammy 111111111118234111111 fast GCD or action MMO's. Why he likes BDO so much.

Overall His points were quite BS.
He's just shamelessly bashing on the game he clearly doesn't like and skipping almost everything good about it. Like he skipped to SB and still thinks the game is slow, there is no hope and I have no idea why he keeps trying. For Views probably but he isn't making money with that amount of dislikes.

Hahaha, what is he talking about? As far as I know he is a unintelligent player, he skip everything he can in order to bore himself even more. He's the LAZY peon after all. I really dislike he's videos, as they are always what any people can initially see with their bare eyes without ANY what so ever depth of information. I'm glad I unsubscribed from him so long ago.

If he's playing a game and dislikes it - it's fine. Move on. It makes no difference to mine or your enjoyment of the game.
Anyone can make a YouTube video. That's the point.

I disagree with about 95% of what this dude said and pretty sure he has some bias on the game which seems present in his delivery.

However, I will admit one valid complaint he made was the new player leveling experience. For me the real lull of the story telling was the questline going to Titan and alil after. It picks up getting to Garuda and begins to take off from there.

They should clean up the quests alil bit, maybe add some more voice acting, but also reward enough exp to level based off the MSQ up to 50 as well as add gear coffers to the quests (which iirc, they are currently working on)

They've acknowledged that those issues exist and are working on them so hopefully that would hit soon.

Other that that, this dude is dead wrong and he should be ashamed for such a half ass review.

I could make a Youtube now saying anything on any subject ever. And it makes zero difference to anything. If he doesn't like the game - he doesn't like the game. Find a video of someone who does to reassure yourself if that's what you need.

He's not wrong: when your first starting out, the game will kind of Bore you to tears. FFXIV has a slow startup, I dont blame anybody who can't deal.
Lving Process is pretty grindy at first to, I won't overlook that.
But I couldn't disagree with him more that people (or most people with how he states it) just buy their way through the story to skip doing it. Heck we didn't even get story skips until Stormblood, and People Love the crap out of Heavensward. So yeah, this guy is entitled to his opinion, but I hate that he tries to sound like he speaks for everyone while doing it with a condescending voice.
And he just bought his way through to avoid doing anything....this guys opinion; while allowed to have it, is not worth going off of.

Trust me, there is absolutely no need to worry about him ...nor give his video any legitimacy. A simple glance at his video will underline the fact that this stunt has blown up in his face... the dislikes already outnumber the likes. Plus, his timing for releasing the video is just too convenient.

Besides, I've been skimming over his channel for a few years and have never liked the guy because he rarely gives critical essential insight into most of the MMOs or games that he reviews.

You are trying to make this something it is not. This is a sorry excuse for a "review". At least, if he claims this is a review.

I knew this was lazypeons video without even clicking the link. Hes a joke and always has been. Hes burned himself out with all the F2P MMOs and WoW clones that hes forgotten the RPG aspect existing in a MMO.


He went into FFXIV trying to rush to the endgame like he does every MMO without trying to understand that FFXIV is in a different league with it being heavily story driven.


The like to dislike ratio should be a clear indicator of the quality of that video.

You disagree with him. That's all this boils down to. And that's OK. People are different.

People like lazy peon don't care about the story or the lore, they just want to get to the content that gives them their gear upgrades and challenges. the rpg in mmorpg has taken a severe downturn except for ffxiv and eso.

This video probably won't have much impact in the grand scale of things but that person clearly has a strong bias against the game. The core of ffxiv revolves around the main story, not gear grinding or finding loot like how WoW and games like Anthem work. If that is really all he wanted to do that then there are plenty of other games like those he could have chosen to play. Personally I play for the story and role playing/collecting outfits. The longer and richer the story the better for me. I'll link a more positive and balanced review here, from a person who understands what is going on better:

That youtuber is an idiot. This video is, like most of his videos, just for views. He is not qualified to tell people whether a game is worth their money or not. Ignore it. Fun is subjective. If we lose potential subs, they were likely too dumb to make it past login anyways. What with there being no playable characters to choose from and such. >_>

The guy used jump potions for story and levels, according to the comments, because "some players said to.." Need I say more? He REVIEWED himself skipping everything except "End Game." Hes a noob. He wouldnt even be able to do any real raiding. lol. He played himself hard and the community is laughing at him.

I remember seeing a vid of him which he did around HW, he simply couldn't get into ff14 and that's fine. Also he didn't really give shadowbringers a thumbs down, rather ff14 as a whole, given that in this vid he didn't play shadowbringers. Still some of the points he made are true, lvl 50 pre HW story is a slog(the run around and talk to 100 different ppl) the initial slow combat (2,4sec GCD) and also that a big part of the community is always saying that the leveling (not story) is boring and the games opens up at max lvl and that the fun(maybe also challenging) part is in raiding (savage i presume).

He spouts a lot of misinformation and seemed to have talked to a very limited amount of people about the game to have come to some odd conclusions, but I do agree with him on one thing:

ARR is awful, and it gets worse when you have to do 2.1-2.3.

I always found myself having to encourage players in novice network that it does get better. I've also gone through ARR multiple times. It's really, really bad. It also drags on for far too long. Even with skipping cutscenes (because I had already seen them before, alt character), it took me nearly 200 hours to get to Heavensward.

The only time I felt like the game was a slog was doing the Seventh Astral Era quests. Nothing interesting happened until the very last quest. Everything else so far has been pretty cool, though.

LOL. Check back to see the video and it gets about 200 more dislikes.

Sad he skipped HW though lol. Trudged through ARR to skip HW.. he did that backwards haha. Also he really likes some super grindy games so.. /shrug lol.

Yoshida in a semi-recent interview touched upon this great mountain that acts as barrier for some and had concerns about that.

FF14 was my first FF game and only FF game that I've played to date. So, I'm came in with the perspective of having played multiple MMORPGs like WoW:

I agree with Peon about his criticisms about the MSQ gating content and the $kip potions.

The MSQ gates so much content behind it, including non-combat content like crafting/gathering etc.

Many FF fans keep screeching about how FF14 has some of the best story in an MMORPG or people who don't like the story should go play something else.

Even as someone,who likes story and lore, many parts of the MSQ are garbage and I think quite a few people need to spend more time at their local library.

What I like about FF14:

Some parts of the MSQ

Character models,emotes/animations,gear,glamour

World, atmosphere and music

Crafting/gathering

So I can see where people like Peon are coming from.

I do hope they go through with those ideas to cut down on a good amount of the grunt work in 2.1-2.4. There's so many quests you could just shrink down and not lose a single bit of story, and that's rather telling sadly.
