If this means we get job specific crafting gear, I think that’ll be great for giving crafters a bit of a challenge. Just like how 3.0 was. “All crafter job” gear wasn’t a challenge really.

It's possible, sure, but there's nothing from a bunch of images that says it isn't just stuff bought with Yellow Scrips again.
I'm sad it's not a one set of gear for all crafts.
The only challenge this would add is managing your Armory Chest after you've lost 8 spaces per gear slot instead of 1 in order to Omnicraft. I'd be very against moving away from shared craft sets. I would honestly prefer if each piece was 8 times more difficult and material-consuming to make than having 8 individual sets. That's how bad I'd find it.
I'd like to see more endgame challenge and difficulty but not like that. There are plenty of other ways to add challenge.
What do you mean "finally"?
We had crafted gear sets that were BiS for each indivdual crafting class in both ARR and HW and it was annoying as hell.
Having to meld 8 sets instead of one didnt make crafting more difficult, it only made it more annoying.
Having to carry around 8 sets instead of one made my armoire a nightmare...
I love getting the AF-sets for crafters and having a specific look for every crafting-job (sadly I disliked most of the SB-designs), but it added nothing to the gameplay or the enjoyment of the game to have those individual sets.
...going by your last thread this is related to your wish/hope to make crafting more "exclusive" again, which is just a bad idea overall. Its even worse when its done by such aritificial means, that add nothing in terms of difficulty or intrestings mechanics and only acts as an inconvince.
I would like to see crafter-challenges in 5.0 aswell though - and I'm hoping that the rebuilding of Ishgard will provide us with those by actually introducing puzzles and intresting mechanics. Anything that makes everyday-crafting more annoying (or "difficult", if you want to call it that) is a hard pass. Including gearsets for every job.
My guess is that we'll be getting AF-sets like we always got for the crafters again - but alongside an universal piece, with the AF-sets working more as stepping stones or glamour pieces.
<.< Hopefully they'll remove the bloody glamour restrictions on them.
One crafting set thats BiS.
But available Crafting Glamours that become available if you are max level on that crafter and complete some kind of crafting turn in. Sounds like a reasonable solution/reward for crafters.
If Prudent Touch stays, fine with me. I just would really like it if I felt like I earned my end game gear by working hard. Like, spending weeks to grind timed mats that are locked behind a weekly cap. Not “gather for a few hours. boom, you can craft it now.” I just want a challenge. Surely Square Enix isn’t just going to ignore the crafters that actually enjoy a challenge? That’s why Hw’s favors were by far the best, and the most challenging era yet. SB crafting was basically a snooze fest. No challenges, easy mode stuff, handouts. Going to hope 5.0 gives us a challenge of some sort.
Also, I need to point out that World Visit isn’t a challenge. All you have to do is craft more often than other crafters on your data Center and make prices low. I do that now, it’s very easy.
The favours where a terrible system, there was no challenge to them, it was just go through nodes and hope you got some good RNG, they had to be buffed repeatedly as it was avoided by most gatherers. It's only upside was that it gave gatherers something with a stable value but doing it was really boring and the fact you had to sacrifice progress (you couldn't buy better gear than the red script gear and had to buy the favour with red scripts.)
I think the "challenging" part of crafting is figuring out a rotation. Once you get that it's just "how much cp do I need, how much crafting and control do I need." Having to spend hours or weeks getting mats just to possibly fail at crafting or not being able to craft and HQ items isn't difficulty, it's a time sink. That being said the Ixali quests were challenging since some of them had reduced cp or no role actions effects on you.
I guess you don't like having inventory or armor space?
They announced the re-building of Ishgard as endgame for crafters - isnt that enough?
We dont know what its gonna look like yet, but personally I expect it to be along the lines and ideas of the Ixal-quests, aka you're being limited in the skills you can use or you get debuffs on certain stats and cant use your usual macro. No matter how they design this content in the end thats going to be the challenge for crafters (at least as I understood the whole thing).
Theres nothing wrong with wanting a challenge as crafter - but please, please keep this challenge out of anything related to everyday crafting! We do that far to frequently to deal with tones of RNG or to sacrifice 8(!) slots in each category of our armoire. As I mentioned before: I would love to see more puzzles and I think the re-building of Ishgard has a huge potential to offer that, while keeping everyday crafting more on the level that it is right now (4star-recipes could have been a little more difficult and require new macros, but oh well).
In your last thread you compared crafting to raiding - let me do the same now when I say that your request for making crafting more difficult (or annoying...) is like a raider complaining that the NMs of the raids are way to easy, that its wrong that everyone can just go and clear them and that they need to be made a lot harder or just outright removed so that they can feel more special for clearing Savage again.
I dont want our current content made more challenging - I craft way to much to want to deal with heavy RNG or lengthy rotations on a daily basis.
But adding a Savage-mode for crafting, with one time recipes that allow you to unlock things (a bit like the first edition of mastercrafter-books in ARR)? Sure, sign me up!
Also: Favours were hell. And I'm saying that as someone who liked them because they were such a great thing to do while watching netflix. They werent intresting, they didnt make crafting difficult, they just limited the amount of materials by loading everything with RNG. RNG is not fun. RNG doesnt make things difficult, it makes things annoying.
And while I dont mind a grind, I would very much prefer to earn things through skill. I'll take an actual difficult craft, that takes my role-actions from me and makes me figure out things on the go (or something similar) over a week long grind that only requires that I click the right macros every day.
(And who claimed that World Visit was a challange to crafting? We're talking about the pure crafting-aspect here, not the market-one, arent we?)
I really don't want to meld gear for every crafter. Please give us one crafting set for all again.
BUT please give us crafting glamour gear and enough glamour plates for each class + some extra, so that we can glamour each crafter individually.
Took the words right out of my mouth, haha. All I want is a challenge, really. As to how they deliver and reward that challenge? Don’t care, as long as the rewards...reward hard working crafters that took the time to learn buffs and moves to unlock something that not everyone and their mother can have. Like you said, master books behind locked behind difficult quality/progress requirements. That would be great! I just feel that SE has completely neglected the crafters who enjoy a challenge for an entire expansion. So I hope the Ishgard content rewards hard working crafters with exclusive gear, or tools even.
Reward hard workers and casual workers accordingly.
As for World Visit, I said that because some people compare the two together for some reason. (I prefer prices being low, so people can afford them.) What I don’t agree with,
is making crafting not feel very rewarding...for working hard. Keep your Prudent Touch, keep your specialist abilities, keep em. However, I see no logical reason to reward casual and hardcore players the same. Make a savage version of crafting, like you said. Make it a true test of skill for crafters. Call it “Rainbow scrip” or something (lol sounds so cheesy, I know), and give us these scrips as a weekly cap.
After a while of grinding, allow us to redeem, say, 1000 rainbow scrips for a very powerful crafting chest piece with insane stats. Just give hardcore crafters difficult and yet, rewarding content. For casual crafters that don’t wish to do so, make it to where they are still able to craft endgame gear, but not as easily as someone who has a full set of rainbow scrip gear, that can only be obtained through savage crafting.
I will for sure never touch craft again if they ever add a gear for each craft without adding much more space. It's hell.
The best thing would be:
One set of gear shared between all crafters.
PLUS
A not garbage glamour system that allows you to glam each class differently.
Since honestly, that's the crux of things. One crafting set is good because it means far less space is taken up with all the different crafting classes as well as less hassle obtaining and overmelding everything just for it to all be identical anyway. While an improved glamour system that allows for class specific glamours would allow you to make each class look different and maybe actually utilize the class specific yellow scrip gear to look fancy in all the classes.
Grinding is not a "challenge".
There will be an AF for each job, but I hope there is a better gear that fit all jobs. I don't find it challenging to meld multiple sets of gear. It's just a waste of resources and time.
AFs should never be top of the line. Thanks but I don't have the space, melding luck and grinding patience to gear up each crafting job separately. Just the cost and space that each job's tools take up is more than enough of that.
Like it or not, omnicrafting is objectively more efficient than specialisation thanks to the way the job system and cross-class abilities work. I don't want the game to punish me with mind-numbing gear grind for doing crafting as intended.
Only if you consider constantly having to fight your inventory to account for a ridiculous number of unnecessary extra gears a "challenge".
Seriously, one of the best things they did to crafters was to make gear universal for all crafters. It was such a major headache having to carry around that many sets of gear. It wouldn't be "challenging" in a good way at all if they added it back in.
I mentioned it on Reddit, but those pictures just look like 71-79 leveling gear. They aren't anywhere near detailed or "fancy" enough to be job specific gear.
How is this challenging? You do weeklies until the game puts a Stop sign in front of you. It's the equivalent of saying Genesis tomes are challenging. What made Heavensward gear difficult is the requirements to make it were significantly higher. In fact, the Ala Mhigan set was actually relatively close. Regardless, I sincerely doubt they will revert back to the HW system. Not only does it force a huge expensive on omni-crafting. It makes it borderline impossible to catch up.
"i want crafting to be challenging"
Macro : Exist
not happening
That's fair, I can completely agree there.
They could leave crafting entirely untouched, similar to how it is in SB, but throw us a few challenges on top and I'd be very happy. Things like a slightly stronger version of the battle sets that are untradable and extremely difficult to make and/or glowing Primal crafter tools, also extremely difficult to craft. Just a few goals that take time to accomplish.
Let's hope ShB surprises us.
There's always been unique sets for all DoH/DoL, and often a couple of all job sets. Though the unique set will usually have better stats until the second set comes out. (IE Ala Mhigan gear)
If they wanted all jobs to have limited.unique gear for everything we'd need triple the armory inventory. (possible more than that for rings)
Challenge? Of course crafting isn't that challenging when you blast it with CP. Take a debuff that cuts your CP in half, and then tell me that crafting isn't challenging. If you guys want crafting to be made challenging, that is more than likely how they'll do it; but what would be the point of that when you spent all this time/gil/frustration over-melding your gear? I just find it a bit odd that some voices here want more challenge, but shun the idea of crafted AF sets being BiS. If it were up to me, I would swap current BiS with second tier DoH gear, but they would still need to be crafted. The frustration with the RNG element of over-melds is ridiculous. Does anybody find that fun? Anyone?
In HW, crafting was quite challenging for me because I didn't go the penta-meld route. I crafted those AF sets, switched around specializations as needed, and used FC and food buffs to meet those requirements. Because of that, I had very limited CP to work with, but still managed to HQ craft and fail to HQ craft 60 4* items. To even have a fair chance, I had to make sure all raw materials were HQ, which took time. However, I really enjoyed having to take advantage of my gatherer abilities in order to obtain these HQ raw materials. The main point though was I was having fun.
Perhaps my version of fun isn't the same as the rest of you, but the impression I get from this thread is not many of you are having it when it comes to crafting, which is quite sad considering the amount of time you've put into it.
This. Hopefully 4.0 was just SE being generous to those complaining about crafting, and starting with 5.0, they’ll make things a bit difficult again. To me, it’s no different than people on the marketboard wanting to list Rakshasa gear at 700k for minimal work. (700k for running a macro basically)
ARR was great for crafting.
HW was the golden era of crafting in my opinion.
SB was basically SE giving crafters a pacifier to suck on that we don’t need.
ShB will likely add some sort of difficulty. People will whine and want it easier of course, but it’ll be fun.
Pretty sure we'll get crafted as BiS and a share-all, while these sets will be via scrips, as usual.
Probably, yeah. Like I said above, I’m just a thrill seeker and like a challenge. I like being rewarded for those challenges too, just like how Favors rewarded you with expensive gear for staying consistent. I would love if AF gear was BiS for ShB. Crafted, as well. Just me, though.
