PS4 gets physical copies for the collectors and standard editions.
But the PC and MAC OS is not at a reduced price and only gets a download?
I don’t even see it on BestBuy or Amazon (and only downloads for SE store and Gamestop,) the physical PC/MAC OS standard edition doesn’t even exist?
(Yes some of us “older” players like the box art but not interested in figurines... not to mention I hear the collectors edition is sold out anyway...)

According to https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/shadowbringers/ neither Mac nor Windows PC comes with game disc. Mac is digital only for both standard and collectors edition. Windows has a physical collectors edition, but even that doesn't include game disc.
If you see a physical copy for Mac, then I don't know. -

I hate that the pc version is only available as a download. I'm one of those who likes to have a cd/dvd copy as a back-up in case of situations such as data limitations and whatnot. It's disappointing that apparently not even the physical CE will have a game disc included.

Basically it just equates in theory to a smaller download but then that's only in theory as day 1 usually has a patch and PS4's at least from my experience have a throttled download speed due to PSN. I can download and install a 50GB game on my PC in about 20 minutes. A game half that size takes around 4-8 hours on PS4.Quote:

Maybe because the collectors edition comes with other materials than a disc. and discs have been a pittance to print for quite some time now? I'm sorry if I sound a little salty but I'm growing frustrated with these kinds of questions. Of all the things you want to complain about its 'why isn't a few dollars shaved off of my copy?'

I’m a fairly new player and got the ARR+HW+SB Complete PC disc version to install the game. Even with three discs worth of data installed, I still had to wait for all three “parts” to have patches downloaded and installed. I was both surprised and not surprised even the StB CE doesn’t have a physical disc.

technically they don't need a disc for the PS4, if you enter the code without installing it will download the game, I know this from several friends who just used the code even though they bought the physical disc. I understand the plight that some people have with this but unfortunately unless you have someone to download and install the game you can copy from (the game is mostly self contained, other than it's own folder it uses a folder in the "my documents" folder) you won't get very far. however if you do have friends that already have the game or are willing to help you, you can go this way.

I didn't need to no but as you are correct I am on PS4 but I do the digital version of the game because I don't want open the CE. -

Actually that's weird. In EU, PC download is cheaper than PS4 physical standard (35€ vs 45€). Digital PS4 is the same as PC.

I've just come to accept that this is the age we live in now. Physical media is becoming more scarce, digital media is the way forward. Yeah it sucks completely and it's a tad unfair. But imho, we can't fight against the tide that is purely digital media that's coming. I'd go as far to say that the next generation, if not the in the next 2 generations, will be purely digital.
Even PS4 discs have only the basic files on them to be read and the rest is downloaded/installed directly to the storage media. -

I understand this for single player games but it's not the standard anymore. I remember in the past in the game shops we had huge shelves of Xbox, Playstation and PC games. Then Steam became bigger and well this is the result, in some shops they completly removed the 'PC games corner' it's just one big black void and in place they hanged Steam, Origin, Uplay, etc wallet top up cards.
Anyway on MMO's it doesn't serve much purpose, I remember several years back (I think it was in 2008) with the release of Wrath of The Lich King for WoW I had to reinstall it for a reason I don't know anymore but I had the dvd disc (was 2 weeks after launch it happened), I installed the game and was greeted with massive update anyway. -

Also, note current as I say this when you click on "PC Download" for Shadowbringers it shows "PS4" as well as PC, same for the PS4 version it says PC and PS4. Similar to how the EU site does but its all just wrong. So really hope its just errors and they will add the physical copy.
If they are going to make everything digital they need to make everything digital. You get a digital figure, digital art book and digital game. Dont make a game case with box art if you arent going to be selling and making discs anymore.
If people want physical figures they should have to buy it separate just like the plush chocobo as an example.
