Regarding this in particular,

"As a result, using this method for leveling would normally be classified as an exploit, but since we were not able to address this promptly despite it being a known issue, we will not be issuing any penalties for players who are leveling in this way. However, since this was not the intended design, we do not recommend engaging in this behavior, and exhort players to level in the normal manner as was intended. "

I would like to ask the developers to re-think this. You're not seeming to grasp the actual problem this exploit causes, which is that the players using the exploit are annihilating entire maps of enemies as soon as they spawn and kill stealing from other players. Now that you won't punish for it, the kill stealing and harassment will get worse.

With how Blue mage is designed to play, the ideal method to level is to cast thousand needles on a mob at least 10 levels above your own that is passive, like a crystal type enemy or something, to one shot it. These exploiters are going around on lv70 archers and red mages and nuking enemies they know other players are trying to kill, and when the player who is trying to level in a legit way asks them to stop kill stealing from them the exploiters laugh and declare SE won't do anything to them, which you've now proven the cheaters to be correct on by refusing to punish for these exploiters who gained at the expense of other players.

This the wrong precedent and message to be sending, because you're telling all the legit players that it's totally okay for these exploiters to have went around kill stealing from us and used an exploit to achieve in a couple hours what normally takes a couple days.

Your job is to ensure a fair rule set and ensure the rules are enforced. It's not harmless behavior, as their actions are impacting other players.

The maps could normally be done with groups of players farming the mobs, but instead it became a free for all and frustrating situation because of these exploiters nuking entire maps while solo.

All you need to do is tell people they will get bans if they keep using the behavior, and issue a blue mage job level and spellbook reset to those who engaged in it already.

By not doing this you're setting a precedent that it's okay for people to engage in an exploit just because it would take you a lot of work to fix it. People will use this situation as an excuse to engage in other exploits they find, and tell others it will be okay because SE will blame themselves so it's fine if they find a glitch that lets people spam LB3 dps limit breaks or whatever because they won't be punished. It's going to happen, because it's already happened with this exploit regarding blue mages. People have been claiming because you didnt fix the level sync bug in Euroka that this exploit will also be okay. You need to take this stuff more seriously.

Also the honest truth is the devs can fix this problem in 5 minutes of coding. All they have to do is make it so you can't switch classes within 5 minutes of killing an enemy. It's not complicated to hotfix. You're not supposed to be able to switch classes while in combat and this exploit bypasses that rule, and everyone who did the exploit knew they were cheating. They should get a softban, they deserve it.

You're really trying to over exagurate the situation.Most players have been either job switching or useing lvl 70 characters from fc to oneshot mobs from them.
Im sure one or 2 players have been griefing mobs but for the most part they havent.
Anway the ones deliberatly going and killing bees and bombs so people cant learn spells on purpose are much bigger offenders of griefing in my opinion.

Honestly its not having a big affect on the gameplay and learning to play blue mage is not based on the same as other classes because you dont just obtain skills through level progression.

I prefer SE spend their time working on making sure the new expansion goes well rather than have them dealing with something as harmless as this.It's a waste of their time and effort at this point so close to the expansion and it doesnt affect the rest of the jobs the same way.

BLU has access to a sleep spell (Acorn Bomb), an instant spell (Flying Sardine) and a spell that stuns and pulls mobs to you (Sticky Tongue). All three are easy to get.

You're overestimating.

Together with a lvl 70 friend you clear 3x as many mobs in a specific time than those slow solo exploit users, while acting completly withing the rules, and because of chain bonus you come out ahead even if you take turns with your friend.

It doesn't matter if the people exploiting aren't being the most efficient. An exploit is an exploit.

Holy shit, it boggles the mind that anyone is actually upset about this.

The core of the BLU job is getting spells, not exping to 50. Even if you cheese your way to 50, you still have to put in the work to get spells. Stop making such a fuss about this.

You're the one that doesn't seem to understand how lv70 characters with instant cast one shot abilities can annhilate maps before a blue mage can even get a single water cannon cast off, let alone these debuffs you're talking about.

To be clear here: I already leveled blue mage to 50, which I did legitimately. I have almost my entire spellbook complete, too including 2 primal spells completed.

This isn't about me angry I can't level due to exploiters. This is about what I had to go through (12+ hours of grinding looking for areas where these exploiters were not at, which was hard to find), and the the other players in the zones still trying to level who will be dealing with this for months since the game has over a million players, and now most anyone with a 70 is going to use this exploit.

It doesn't just affect blue mages. It also impacts other newbie players, too who need to kill x enemies for a quest which these guys are annihilating in North Than and Mor Dhona, and other areas in North Shroud.

It's a very entitled and selfish attitude of people who use this exploit and its impact on other players needs to be considered by SE.

Like I said: They annihilate maps as half as fast as someone teaming up with another player. They just don't have friends.

Get addlo/regen -> spam fish insta cast on all mobs in area -> Miasma2/Assize or Wind2/Ruin2 right after pull -> repeat.

You're absolutely right but so many of the players are perfectly fine with what is essentially cheating.

This is most evident by many players defending doing the exact same thing to gain light in pagos.

Getting to lvl 50 with blue mage doesnt give you anything.They still ahve to do the dungeons learn all the spells.Most still arent even solable at lvl 50.There is no benefit people get from doing the xp switch except for spending less time grinding monsters.

The light switch gives you something towards relic weapon.Something you are suppsoed to grind to obtain.
They are 2 completly different things.

If it was having a huge negative efect on the game i'd be against it too but its not and people are just raging now on forums because devs arent gonna ban all those players that other salty blues were trying to get punished.

This is completely untrue, I got pushed out of a spot in North Thanalan right outside of Camp Bluefrog because every single enemy was killed as soon as it spawned by a Red Mage who was exploiting. He ran around both the left and right side of the maps instant one shotting every enemy before I could even tag them with so much as water cannon. I saw this occurring all over Mor Dhona too.

The only reason I was even able to get to 50 is because I found an area lv49 enemies level that is out of the way, but exactly 4 enemies spawn there and their respawn timer is low.

Every other area had these exploiters running around one shotting as soon as the mob spawned. A single exploiter can nuke around 30-40 enemies in under a minute by just running around on a red mage or archer. It's totally broken.

All I'm saying is, using the 'legal' way by teaming up with a friend you kill twice as many mobs (i.e. cover twice the area) before the mobs start to respawn.

Wait...you are using their statement about something they say would normally be considered an exploit, that being where people are job switching from 70s to BLU to receive the EXP due to server ticks to argue against level 70s killing mobs for BLUs leveling? This is simply untrue, Blue Mage carnival is a super easy way to get seals and has rendered Hunts immaterial as the carnival has weekly challenge bonuses for stages, and this is just the pre-expansion release of the character. They have already said limits will be increased after expansion, which means both blue mage level cap and the type of rewards from carnival will increase.

I also suspect they will add a weekly duty specific for blue mages either in next expansion or before it.

The exploit ban idea is just an excuse to attempt "revenge" because someone took kills you thought were yours. You'd be spitting chips if a lvl 70 was bursting things down to farm crafting mats in an area you're leveling in, but you wouldn't be able to report that as there's not even a grey area. This whole exploit talk is extremely petty.

If the RDM was going that fast then he must not have been switching back to BLU to get experience. You do need to wait for the server tick to reward you the exp before you switch back, and yes you can switch back too fast. The situation you presented sounds much more lika a lv70 helping a BLU out, because the BLU just has to tag a bunch of things and then the 70 can just wipe the map clean.

Sound like some godly exploiters. I don't think I could kill 30-40 enemies a minute just regularly on RDM (not packed tightly enough anywhere really and gcd is a thing), let alone when between every kill I'd have to stop for a second to let the xp register.

People are using macros to switch back and forth incredibly fast. I thought at first they were botting but it seems to be a macro setup.

The only reason I even knew they were switching is because I would see the chat log say they leveled up blue mage when they clearly are different class. The flash of light between changes rarely even triggers on them.

I can go around and one shot every mob in a zone that another player is trying to kill. That doesn't mean I'm exploiting anything. I'm just being a jerk.

The exploit only comes in if I immediately job switch so a different job gains XP from the kill than the one I used to kill the mob.

Most of those people running around one shotting stuff are just jerks, not exploiters.

But I do agree in general that SE has made a poor call by saying "we're not going to punish you, keep doing it". It just encourages more players to use the exploit because it's now been stamped as "this is okay to do". They will use it with other jobs and in other situations as well. Then they'll start using other exploits because SE has already authorized players to use this one.


I do hope they reconsider. Better for them to say "we won't penalize players who have used it until now but we will penalize those found using it going forward".


In the meantime, this explains how Derplander was changing jobs in the teaser trailer.

You can change back too fast. Macro or no if you switch back too fast the experience goes to the job you switched back to.

It sounds more like you're fearmongering about something you don't understand. Of course an instant cast tag will help against a lv70 nuking a mob, how do you think the 2-man strategy works? If you tag it with sardines before the RDM can get jolt off (easy to do since jolt has a cast time), you get priority on the mob--and thus, full credit regardless of how much damage you actually do to the monster.

The open world is garbage as far as I'm concern the claim system should have been you claim it it's yours/party anyone outside that can't help or kill it shoot the leve quest function as such. /Shrugs

Given that I just spent the past few days observing the exploiters behavior across zones and among multiple individuals, and clearly seeing the log from the exploiters that their blue mage job leveled up while they were a different class, you're not going to convince me what I repeatedly observed did not occur.

There may be additional exploits being used. One person was shouting the other day that some of the exploiters were going invisible though I didn't observe anyone vanishing and re-appearing myself.

Incorrect.

If you tag the monster, you still get the exp, regardless of who killed that mob, you instant cast on it and someone hits it? who cares, free exp to you, thats how the other levelling method works outside of this solo work.

Also, realistically. Why aren't you just LOOKING at your spells, rather than referencing the wikia.

another note to add also, people aren't using macros to switch between jobs. Macros include delay, and terrible ones at that, otherwise youd actively use macros for a wider range of spells for raiding and such, people are doing something way simpler.. they're putting their saved job gear set, on their hotbar, and pressing a key. that's literally it.

In honesty though, i really really don't grasp why this is such a big issue, it's went under the bridge for so long until people get upset about not being able to kill a mob, i get it, it sucks to some retrospect, but realistically? the problem will void itself, most open world areas now are barren of this anyway,


and to the person for "1 million players", that's not how it works, you have a data centre, and a server, and i can guarantee you that there isn't a million active players of this game right now, and if so, its a tight stretch across all regions

Glad you have your unfalsifiable experiences. So do I. They're probably doing the 2-man exploit method. I've never even heard of any invisibility exploit, and now it really sounds like you're fearmongering.

I don't condone purposely killing mobs that are obviously claimed by BLUs trying to learn spells. BUT, the thing is, anyone can hit anything if they feel like it. There is no hard claim system in the game so it's free for all. Throw a fish at stuff claimed by other people. It doesn't actually affect their EXP on BLU. It's annoying when there are people killing everything in sight, but that blocks everyone, not just "low" levels. Just find another spot or wait it out. People killing everything in sight level so quick they'll be gone in a half hour.

From what i understand the devs have more important things to sort out you know an expansion that less than 7 months away they know it is an exploit while doing nothing now they are going to make sure it can't happen in future from 5.0 onwards so lv 50 to 60 blu has to be done differently stop fearmongering it is unneeded and just paints you as petty it took you longer than someone else to reach lv50.
The devs stance is simple its an exploit they don't wanna work on right now but have plans in 5.0 to counter it going forward and really it's an oh no someone got to lv50 with just water cannon have fun whacking lv8 mobs with your cane for abilities the very core of blu is tied to XD

The exploit SE called out and addressed is a player changing jobs from a high level character to BLU so the server ticks give the BLU the exp. The OP post is calling having a level 70 paired with a BLU and clearing out mobs an exploit and SE has made no stance on that.

Open world is free for all really. If I fancy killing a bomb for some bomb ash, even if there are blue mages wanting to get self destruct, who is on the right? Both are, and it can be kind of a jerk move, but its still fair game. Open world is just that, free for all. This is why SE does nothing to "early pullers" on hunts, and they won't do anything about this either.

Job switching is... A thing, and while it is an exploit, its been around since forever, and they haven't (or can't even) fix it because of the jumbled mess that is FF14.

As for blues being in cohorts with level 70s who kill mobs the blue tags, thats just the mob claiming system working as intended. If you hit something, you get credit for the kill even if you did only 5 damage to it. If it wasn't like that, then we would live in an MMO where first come first served and everyone else had to wait for mobs for quests etc, which is FAR FAR worse...

Also the OP has way too much time on his hands if he just sits around and watches other people for days.

EDIT: ALSO, I would like to point out that people who cheesed leveling are already level 50, since day 1. They are not the ones who are still leveling.

and that defeats the entire purpose of having multi jobs available to you in an open world, cant ressurect dead players, cant change classes after leaving a zone after killing an enemy, cant change jobs after fighting an enemy of which you may have retreated from, can't change jobs after gathering some skins for a craft, what about being auto aggrod as a gatherer? or as any other job? what about wanting to change job for different content such as trials and raids? its a bigger factor than you simply expect.

even if they were to change the server ticking, that would also affect so many other aspects, such as how jobs work, mana ticking, hp ticking etc, all of the things done to "prevent" this "issue" will affect other things in return, and your solution is a terrible one, as well as "5 minutes of coding" isn't five minutes of coding. so please. don't jump that gun


There is literally no reason for anyone to be this offended by this issue at all, just because some players are wanting to do it the "Legit" way, doesn't call for exile of half of the players in the game who took advantage of this, it isn't saying all other exploits are ok either, as well as overall? None of this affects anything you do at the end of the day apart from killing a few mobs, of which there is multiple zones available. which is the sad truth. more people are complaining about this than they are levelling the class themselves.

It will impact nothing because all those situations are rare and solved by other players. You're not supposed to be able to change classes while in combat and this exploit bypasses that

Also there are only 4 abilities that can be gotten in the overworld only, Faze,Bomb toss, toad oil and flying sardine and likelihood someone is killing them repeatedly is low also Faze/Bomb toss have loads of places to learn including fates, Flying sardine has a levequest Call me mating if you need it leaving just Toad oil as having 1 location and its a lv24 mob doubt they are nuking that over and over as for exp always synced dungeon runs slower yes but definitely possible

That is insanely inconvenient, 5 whole minutes? You want to inconvenience the entire playerbase just because someone did a leveling method that you didn't like that in no way shape or form affects you? You didn't put an end to this matter, you opened a can of worms. And no you obviously do not know how coding works, you can't just spaghetti multiple lines of code and expect it to work. The issue lies with the server and the entire backbone of the game, fixing it no simple matter than "5 minutes of coding", it doesn't work that way. The issue lies with the server tick (which is estimated to be 2-3s), the exploit revolves around instantly killing the mob and swapping to another job before it registers you entered combat and killed it. This is also the same issue with the FATE/NM sync trick. And this is no easy task to fix.

The only reason I even knew they were switching is because I would see the chat log say they leveled up blue mage when they clearly are different class. The flash of light between changes rarely even triggers on them.

It's not a macro, it's dragging gearsets onto a hotbar. And I don't know why people are getting upset over someone killing stuff on a 70 then switching to Blu. A) they could be farming materials and just killing two birds with one stone and B) at no point in time is there a giant name tag on every monster that says "your monster". It's not like people can take Blu to 70 and raid with it. All they can do is farm spells and do the masked carnival. Also there is a slight delay from when you can switch back and forth. Too slow and no exp, forget to switch and you've got a pissed off monster way above your level chasing you down.
