Set your chocos to heal only when your learning spells.
Just had to give up on self-destruct and final sting because ppl just let their choco kill everything. Send them a tell and ask them politely to set choco to heals, get ignored.
Seriously....

Doesn't help that people are spreading misinformation about "not having to see the ability to learn it".
during the Lv.1 cut scene, the blue mage say that you must be the target of the ability to learn it, meaning the mob used it, while the Dev' Team said that as long as one blue mage learn it, every other blu in the party will also learn it.
Just do Halatali. You literally have 5 monsters to kill before you get self-destructing bombos.
And if you're even more patient, you can wait 'til Haukke. You need to do it for something else anyway.
Same for Final Sting, don't try to get it in the wild.
Never trust the zerg.
Can confirm this. While it helps if you have full aggro of the mob, if you participate in a fight with another BLU and the skill happens, you can get it. But it's recommended to have a party so you can increase your chances.
tl;dr: as long as you witness the skill in a fight, you will get it...probably
Why exactly do I need to set me chocobo to heal? I don't need heals. Oh wait, I guess you (or people with the same opinion) will just report me if I refuse to set it to heal, or put it away, right.
Guess what, chocobos dead or gone, people were still killing bombs. I got called out and "reported" multiple times because it was solely my fault and my bird that was killing the bombs. Guess what? My chocobo died and all the bombs were still being massacred by the huge group of players without chocobos.
If you are trying to learn BLU skills, then it helps yourself. You will not learn a monster ability until that monster does a full cast and the spell or ability goes off. If your chocobo is killing the monster before the skill you are trying to learn goes off, you will never learn the BLU skill. And no, you are not the only one being called out. People are calling out anyone they can see whose chocobo is killing off the monster. I've been using yell to call out "You cannot learn monster skills if it dies before it fully casts the ability. Cast Addle, Faze, or Acorn Bomb to get enemity on a monster without killing it" and people were starting to get the idea.
If you are trying to learn BLU skills, why do you need your chocobo on attack?
I have it on attack, because it is MY companion. It's not even the companion that I am calling out, it's the people screamingt "griefer, griefer, REPORT REPORT". As I said, chocobos are a scapegoat, I tested it once my bird died, and the bombs were still not getting any casts off because players themselves were killing the bombs. No one person was at fault for these bombs being massacred.
Your attitude really didn't help (and we did see your chocobo kill the bombs a few times). If you just despawned your chocobo or put it in healer stance, you would not have been the main target of the drama and people would have been requesting the other players killing the bombs to "stop!"
Oh they did "request" at the threat of reporting for griefing along with calling these people every name in the book. Calling people out specifically and calling out for mass report. If they wouldn't have been so aggressive to everyone, I would have been more amiable to put away my bird when asked "nicely", than being called names, and report threats. According to them, they probably reported dozens of people, including any new people coming in with their companion out.
I wasn't even the only one who had a companion out in the first place, they were just selectively choosing people to call out, and call "griefers". You should have seen the blame game, as soon as my bird was gone it was everyone and their mother, cherry picked.
[EDIT] OH! You were actually there!
I was there. I didn't report you, but I did allude to 3.2 in the ToS for you to consider after requesting you to despawn (well, "kill the bird") your chocobo, or put it in healer stance. Your first response to that was "F no," but without the censorship.
Your chocobo did kill a few of the bombs we were trying to learn the spell from, though. I have no idea what happened after I left (I finally learned the spell).
I was responding the way I was, because of how aggressive everyone was in the first place. If I replied to you that way it wasn't anything personal. What happened after was my bird died, and I didn't bother to respawn it, and they started calling out anyone and everyone, some by name, and calling for mass reports. There were tons of people just coming in and killing them themselves, multiple people with chocobos out, and people stunning it or killing it during self-destruct. I highly doubt most of those people that supposedly got reported had "griefing" on their mind. Yeah, sure, there might have been people purposefully stunning a few of them or pushing them out of the self-destruct, but not the majority. People's attitudes didn't help at all.
The biggest issue was probably 35 people trying to tag the bomb at the same time, or at the last minute, and killing it.
So why didn't you just do the smart thing and just either despawned or set your chocobo to only heal? If people were calling you out by name, and you still continued on, knowing well in advance that a huge influx of players were there specifically to get self-destruct, why would you continue to keep the target placed on your back because 'MINE COMPANION'? It's not that hard, just despawn or switch it to healer stance, and let the angry mob turn their frustrations onto somebody else that's causing the problems. Seems like you only have yourself to blame for keeping that target on your back.
Ran into the exact same thing earlier. Was going for Final Sting, somebody thought my chocobo was killing it. I invited them to watch my chocobo - it was on healer stance the entire time. And what happened? Absolutely nothing, they pointed out the griefer who was killing the wespe and shouted at him instead. And I got Final Sting with no problems.
See the difference? Be smart, not stubborn.
Yeah, had someone /tell me before the drama last night asking me to turn my chocobo to healer stance... when it already was on healer stance (it was pretty close to the bomb and they all do their combat wiggle dance). I informed them of such and they apologised.
Another one is Faze. Currently listed as from a level 30 Qiqirn in Eastern La Noscea, but can be learned from level 6 Qiqirns in Central Shroud. Accidentally came across it when I rather ambitiously attempted to go for Bad Breath at level 5.
Also, if you're having a hard time getting Acord Bomb in North Shroud, there are more Sapplings behind the waterfall in Central Shroud.
Ice Spikes are in Central Shroud too from Imps.
Faze can also be learned from similarly leveled qiqirn in Central Thanalan. Another one is Plaincracker, which is attributed to a boss in HM Copperbell. In reality you can learn it from multiple overworld mobs so long as they use the clay golem model. Western Thanalan, South Thanalan, around Nym, outside SCoB, etc. Tail Screw, which is listed as being from a boss in HM Satasha, can be learned from mobs in The Peaks if you have a higher level escort.
Re. Faze - I had no luck picking that up in Central Shroud. Every other ability so far - up to Lv15ish monsters - I've gotten on the first try from monsters a few levels higher than me (including Faze on my other character, from the Central Thanalan group). I tried for Faze about five times, no luck, moved to Thanalan and acquired it on my first shot.
I know it could be a fluke of RNG, and five attempts isn't a really thorough test of chance, but it seems strange.
The chimera skills can be learned in the ARR Trial andAzry La.There are so so so many skills that can he learned that people don't look into because they're letting a guide show them the streamlined locations. Hense this cluster issue that is seen in Horizon and similar areas. I anticipate that most of what is on the list of abilities can be learned outside of dungeons but you just might need to experiment with enemies in and outside ARR zones
I don't think the Chimera's in Azyz Lla use Rams/Dragons Voice.
Diamondback is confirmed to be possible to learn from Hoard Amormored Dragon from the Trial the Steps of Faith. Just did this with my FC mate

I hope there are other spells available in more convenient locations.
The Chimera in the A Relic Reborn trial uses the Rams and Dragons voice if anyone wants to test that one.
EDIT: Tested it myself, works fine.
Ifrit Normal seems to use Eruption too, but no luck via testing.
