Eureka Pagos Problems(with solutions).

The Relic Weapon

It's an absolutely boring chore to upgrade a Relic in Pagos, chaining in XIV is not something I find fun at all. After one chain #30 I'm done, because when I look at the bar after one chain #30 it's hardly even moved. If there's a better way to grind light, then you'd best tell us. No one is going to care to even bother to find out what silly system you had to get above a "Feeble" light, even though "Feeble" amounts vary greatly, just another thing to confuse players. Pagos is already obsolete in it's rewards, there's no need to withhold how you wanted us to do this. The Stormblood relic so far has been the most boring Relic to upgrade.

The FFXI Items

They are way too damn rare. The Hakutaku eyes come from the bunny fates that people now rarely bother with due to either no experience reward or no light reward. And on top of that you'll likely only get Gil and Materia V/VI from those bunny chests.

The Cassie Earring comes from the NM Cassie that no one ever does anymore, very rarely will you see people bother with it due to the feeling of it being a waste of time, and it's true. The Cassie NM is way too rare of a spawn, or we are missing something, which again, you'd best tells us because no one cares to test it further due to Pyros coming out soon.

Arthro is the only NM that drops a FFXI item that I've seen worked on with regularity. However, I've never once seen a Speed Belt drop, or been in a party when someone said they've got a drop. I haven't even seen someone shout they got a belt lol. It's way too rare of a drop. This is not a good idea to have FFXI nostalgia items so rare when you create content that is going to be dead in a matter of months and therefore no one will ever get those items again due to no one wanting or needing to do it.


Possible Relic Solutions

Have light amounts increase every 3 mobs we chain, from "Feeble" on the 3rd to "Brilliant/Newborn Star" on the 30th. Perhaps varying depending on the level of the mobs you kill. So if you chain Lv35 mobs you won't get as high a light tier bonus as chaining Lv40 mobs.

Possible FFXI Item Solutions

This mainly comes down to simply increasing the drop rate of certain items. However, the Cold-warped Lockboxes should be obtainable from all mobs that are at least 38+, this simple change would make it way more desirable for groups to deal with the Ameretats to spawn Cassie. And on the topic of Cassie, simply increasing the rate at which she spawns would also encourage people to bother with her. Also as I mentioned above about the solution to change how light is accumulated. This might also encourage people to deal with Cassie more often if they can get a decent amount of light from chaining high level mobs.

Currently the bunny FATEs scale with the amount of people within the instance. I've completed both these FATEs solo on PLD in about 5 minutes when I was the only one in the instance. But when there's a lot of people in the instance it becomes quite the slog to attempt this solo and even with a party of 8. These FATEs should have light and exp amounts that scale with it's current difficulty. Albeit smaller amounts due to them being up constantly. This would encourage people to even think about doing these Bunny FATEs. As for the chest rewards, I've never once seen a gold. This need to be increased dramatically if you want people to care about doing these FATE again in future.

I have nothing to say on Arthro's Speed Belt aside from the same I'd say for all these items, increase the drop rates. FFXIVs content is designed in a way that after 4~6 months it's pushed to the side for something new. Therefore you cannot have super rare items within Eureka that people can reliably get like they did in Anemos, which had decent drop rates for these FFXI items.

During development focus on what's fun and not how long you can make players do a thing. Currently Eureka isn't that fun after you hit the Level cap. Thanks for reading!

The FFXI loot is way too hard to get, I agree.

For Cassie you have to overcome four completely random, nearly impossible checks to get the earring.

-Will the instance have enough active 35s who want to pop molbors?
-Will there be enough blizzard weather to pop her?
-Will she actually drop the earring for you if she does pop?

Given the current relic tier is no longer near top in regards to ilvl boosting light acquisition rates and drop amounts of pagos crystals would be nice

I would support all those measures OP. Something needs to be done and done fast, if they want people to continue with their relics.

I haven't been into Pagos on my main since I hit level 34 and I think I went in there on my alt once. Both those characters have more than one Anemos weapon, and both have all the vanity/rare items from that instance.
Of course, the vanity is supposed to be secondary to the relic but in Anemos it was enough to keep me coming back after my first weapon was finished and then when I realised I could make multiple relics, that kept me coming in, too. Pagos was a complete contrast, by level 34, I only had enough crystals to upgrade my main's relic once and no vanity items.

I really don't feel Pagos has rewarded my time; it wasn't fun at all and I know that even if I stuck the grind out to the end, I'd probably come out with nothing more than an inferior weapon to show for my efforts. Normally I'm motivated to do content by better gear, glams or story. In it's present form, Pagos offers far too little in any of those departments to get me back in.

I'd like it if they remove the Challenge Log for Eureka and instead work on something like the Hunt Mark Bills TBH... I think you could slap better rewards on something like that, where as Challenge Log is always EXP and Gil... It was nice for leveling up, but after that it's just worthless, where as with something like the Mark Bill system you could ease up the relic grind somewhat by rewarding people with crystals and/or light once they're at the level cap (can also probably work in something with the Logos system too). Mark Bills are also daily, rather than weekly (except the B ranks of course), so there'd be a reason to go in daily at least... IDK, the Challenge Log just seemed like a quick fix rather than what Eureka actually needed...

Bronze chests from Bunnies need to be merged with Silver ones, too... Those damn Bunnies are the least rewarding waste of time I've ever encountered, and it's a damn shame because the idea at least was solid, just this godawful implementation. Who on Earth figured it would be rewarding to have people, likely solo, having to wander into a cave full of dinosaurs that will murder you the moment they catch sight of you, all for a Heaven's Eye V materia and 1,000 gil? Seriously... Dare I say the little treasure hunt would be fun if they were actually rewarding... I've never felt rewarded for doing them though, instead I feel like the developers are directly spitting in my face with these trashy "rewards"...

This really is the biggest issue IMO... They gave us an XI style relic grind but completely forgot that XI relics were actually worth that effort (most being BiS for years), while XIV relics are just fancy glamour options at best... OK, they're making Eureka Relics BiS in Eureka with the next zone by slapping Eureka Effect stats on them, but who actually cares? The entire instance is built around lame world bosses where your individual contribution is ultimately meaningless, when you're 1 out of a 100 people wailing on a boss it's hard to really care about anything... Plus its the final zone, and we're only getting the Eureka Effect stats at the end? "You're finished with Eureka! Have a stat that only works in Eureka!" 10/10 games design right there...

Such a shame... Eureka Effects could have worked really well at rewarding players mid-grind and holding their interest... Instead they've set it up as effectively the final reward for some asinine reason... The Pagos stuff is just comically rare to the point of irrelevance and whatever they have planned for Pyros is too late, we needed this stuff in Anemos IMO... If I got a Scorpion Harness and it was actually usable, and/or the Anemos Relics had Eureka Effects? Then I could look at that and think "Great! This will help speed up the next steps", would perhaps need far more gear and more than just Haste for that to work (imagine an "Increases Light Yield" stat), but it would work IMO. Going back and applying Eureka Effects to the old stuff would also act as the nerf all previous relics have benefited from. I'm guessing Logos wont apply retroactively, either? Sure would be nice, assuming those skills are actually worthwhile, to have them in Anemos and Pagos to help speed things along... Can we farm light in Anemos, by the way? Would be nice if we could, so I'll assume not. Guess we wont be able to in Pyros either...

The best solution to the Relic... Make it obtainable outside Eureka...

TBH the relic not being BiS/special stats is also keeping people from losing their collective minds (people hate it enough already), because if it was there would be a lot more complaining since some people would feel "forced" to do it. Right now it's whatever, feel like it or not you can get something else which the relic has always been about just a "lower difficulty" side grade if you keep up with content until end of expansion. I wouldn't mind if they changed it, but if they make the relic always BiS there should be some moderate to high difficulty content involved and not just "do mild difficulty content repeatedly for 40 hours per step" stuff they have done since the primal triad step.

Anyways, they will probably nerf it when they release Pyros, or they could just tell us about this apparent secret we haven't figured out yet... If they really hate us, they'll just make the next relic steps require stuff from Anemos & Pagos (How about needing 5 drops from Cassie? :rolleyes:) forcing us to go back to them in addition to Pyros stuff.

Honestly I think they saw how fast the Anemos lockbox drops tanked on the MB so they added another RNG layer to it to protect their value and ended up going to the other extreme in which the drop rates are complete garbage.

There was FFXI loot in Eureka? Never seen it so I didn’t know it was a thing.

Anemos had the Scorpion Harness, Strider Boots, and Emperor's Hairpin as special loot.

I don’t need to read the rest to know I agree with you. SE should know by now that the reason Diadem didn’t work wasn’t because people didn’t play it, but because it didn’t work and people didn’t even care after they got what they wanted. Content like this that requires other players has a limited lifespan if it’s not fun, or constantly updated to give more items that sustain a healthy zone like this.which is something a lot of people assumed Eureka would be more like. A place that was constantly being updated with more and more rewards that would encourage players to help newer people to the content. Diadem should have been a learning experience. Anemos should have been. But they haven’t learned.

Also, since I’ll probably be bound to get someone telling me how this is a normal relic grind, every relic before has not required but the fastest way was with the following:

• Playing with 4 or more players longer than the length of a dungeon or 24-man
• Forming parties and grinding for longer than a few Fates
• Going out of the overworld so you can’t craft, queue for dungeons, or even other side things you can do in the overworld

And anybody who says they did is forgetting that for the most part it was the “optimal” way devised by players.

Part of the issue with Eureka in general is that unlike say old dungeons and trials you can throw into roulettes to make sure people can play them down the road, it all falls apart if you don't get people into Eureka. They'll have to nerf it substantially if SE wants anyone post SB to go back and do this content for relic glamours.

With Anemos I didn't have too many problems. The pain of the grind was frontloaded but as you gained levels it became easier to gain momentum in it, and once you hit level cap it was easier to upgrade gear for multiple jobs if you wanted to, unlike old relics where you start from scratch. I liked this.

Pagos however I have more issues with. The map design in general feels much more annoying. The canyon in the center you have to tiptoe through. The NW Aetheryte should be level 27 at most not 30 considering the level range of NMs up there. The cliffs and sleeping void dragons on them get tedious after a while. At first it was cute, walk slow past the dragons to not wake them but before the end of the zone it's just annoying. Not getting mount until level cap.

And of course they added the light grind. This felt excessive to me. Part of what I liked about Anemos was that once you hit level cap, the worst of the grinding was behind you. Sure you would need a lot of crystals and more Pazuzu kills to get multiple relics, you didn't just get them all right away, but it was much faster with the full host of NMs at your disposal. In Pagos, you have to grind out the light kettle THIRTY ONE TIMES per relic. This on top of the grind to 35 through the more frustrating to deal with map just feels like overkill to me, and I won't be entertaining the idea of doing it for a second job.

If they made the gear easier to get, they would have to remove the stats on it. The 9% haste is pretty powerful in Eureka especially with whatever future gear we get from Pyros/Ionos. That said, would you rather have the glamor or the stats? Because that will dictate its rarity.

What makes you think this? Remove the stats just because we would actually OBTAIN these items? As it stands right now, they might as well not exist with the current drop rate being so meager. And like I've said before, FFXIV developers create content that is tossed to the side after about 6 months. These current Pagos FFXI items are il300. Are they going to keep Eureka at il300 forever? No! They will likely replace these Eureka items with new ones of higher Item level coming from a new zone with a higher item level cap. And the throw away content cycle will continue, it's really the only way they know how to design things.

My point being, let people obtain these items while they can still enjoy them before the next thing comes out and replaces it. We all know this is going to happen. It's all this game has ever done. New creations replace the old ones.

I just want the glamour. Which is really just the hat. Although I'm not sure why you think glamour would be less rare because there's a 30 million gil emote in Pagos, fluff items are still being made insanely rare too.

By the time you get the items you'll likely be done with Eureka anyway. And you might assume they'll give you an edge in Pyros, but for all we know the devs could be designing Pyros expecting everyone to have them, so anyone who doesn't will be at a disadvantage. Or they might just make the Eureka effect not work in Pyros or bump up the ilvl there to 330 and make them worthless.

And they don't even have to increase the drop rate to 100%, they just have to make it reasonable. There's no clusters for sale on the market board and none have ever sold. That is too rare.

Citation PLEASE. If they "would have to" show me where they say that or where anything indicates that. As it is, if it's only useful in Eureka it should be a vendor item, unless I'm given another reason why that would break it. If it's only useful in Eureka, why even bother wanting a drop for the stats? It's not endgame gear, it's not going to make them break the Ultmates or the whatevers. And haste doesn't even effect Auto Attacks and most melee classes don't benefit from haste because their GCD needs to be set at a specific speed or they lose TP too fast or things don't line up... things you should know since you play Dragoon.

At this point I want Eureka Gone. This is bad content hands down. And from what I read about Pryos it’s not getting any better. Can’t wait to see all piles of complaints on the random Substats. Please Stop giving us a redressed Diadumb.

I REALLY hope they don't do anything like Eureka in 5.0. It was an...interesting experiment I guess but ultimately not one I like. And all the resources put into making these maps and systems for Eureka? I would have rather had that development time put into other areas of the game instead.

The random substats don't personally bother me because I'm mostly doing it for glamour but I can see that being a huge and fair sticking point for others.

Pyros for me will be tolerable if it has better map design and less light grinding, but even Anemos which I found bearable wasn't exactly fun either. The magecite system feels like a waste too. NOt much thought goes into it. You put all five points in one element and spin it around depending on what you're hitting. Or maybe if you're tanking or healing you'll put it in defense but the magia board really doesn't affect the gameplay at all beyond spinning the wheel on occasion.

All these zones and new systems put in place, just for relic weapons? Feels like a waste.

I'm expecting they will... We've gotten Wind/Ice/Fire in 4.0, one expects Earth/Water/Lightning in 5.0 to complete the elements... Plus it would let them repeat the whole Zodiak > Anima weapons thing, where you could trash your Zodiak weapon to skip the first step of the Anima weapons... Something like that would make a lot more sense if we're returning to Eureka... Depends where the plot goes with Pyros I guess, seems kind of early to wrap up the whole thing IMO though, so I'm expecting more in 5.0...

It's a shame they didn't put gathering in Eureka... Granted they never got that to really work with Diadem, but at least Diadem was a good source of various materials... Just a shame you still can't enter solo to go take advantage of that... If Eureka had something similar it'd at least be a reason to keep returning to the zones... I always wished Diadem would have mixed gathering and combat properly, something like clearing out an area so you can gather there for a set period of time before stuff respawns (or heck, FATE NMs could have spawned gathering nodes nearby when defeated), or having set areas which are blocked off until gatherers clear the path by mining/chopping down whatever is blocking the path, and beyond it is new NMs to fight... IDK, could make some more interesting spawn mechanics than; Kill a bunch of mobs, and Kill a bunch of mobs during the right weather, with something like that... Still something that falls out of use once people move on from the zone, but if they work on scaling the difficulty and spawn system and/or move from FATEs to Levequests, then I think it'd be something you could effectively enter and solo...

Who knows though... Maybe they'll rework Diadem and Eureka into Squadron content... Lord knows the Grand Company Squadron AI is about as advanced as your average Eureka AFKer... Kinda sad that we need to copy XIs Trusts system while XIV is still this active, but I guess that's what happens when you design a game around fairly rapid, pure vertical progression... Any "new" content you're going to make is going to have no point so long as "Next patch this item level reward will be pointless". If Yoshida wants to copy XI with something like Eureka, he either needs to throw balance out the window (Let me solo everything RDM/NIN), or needs to embrace some form of horizontal progression. You can't have offshot content like Eureka when I can literally craft superior gear now... Something like Deep Dungeons probably works because you can solo it and at most need 3 other people, Eureka being built around world bosses for 100+ people to work on was a big mistake... FATEs are garbage, OK they scale to the number in the instance, but popping them doesn't, and if you're in an instance of low levels who aren't going to help with Louhi? Yeah have fun with that, might not be a problem now, but several months down the line when Pagos is dead save a few people playing catchup? All the other 35s will be in Pyros after all... Rework FATEs to Levequests, perhaps with scaled difficulty/rewards, so you can solo it for low rewards, or group up and fight a harder version for better rewards... IDK, that'd at least make finishing the relic possible after 5.0...

Ok. Let's really fix Eureka in a way that would work for FFXIV.

First... get rid of the big open, run around, dangerous area. Nix that right in the butt.

Next, turn the "area" in to 3 or 4 different dungeon layouts. Place them in the duty finder so people don't have to stand in one spot shouting for a party hoping people will be kind enough or around the same level to invite them.

Now. When you que into these dungeons it's random which path of the 3 or 4 or however many dungeons there are, that you will get; and it's also random which bosses will be in the paths. Bosses of course would be the NMs that would have been in the area.

You can then have the elemental exp system if you want, though I don't see a reason to at this point, and evenly space out the dungeons so you only get certain ones depending on lvl or all of them if you are high enough lvl. You just get synced down when in a lower lvl one. (This is only if you keep the elemental exp system)

Bosses drop crystals and/or Glamor gear, as well as light or w/e SE wants to put as the next step. Only the highest lvl dungeon would have the final boss or NM of the area as the boss for you to get your Feathers or Ice or w/e. BUT! Since it's random which dungeon you get each time and which bosses are in each dungeon you would need to run multiple times even at high lvl to get your drops. Ensuring people continue to que and new people able to get into the relic / glamour grind. (Also only the final boss of the highest lvl dungeon would be set. To ensure you actually do get Pazuzu or who ever sometimes.)

Since Eureka has something of a story you can then make the "final boss" of the story a trial. (Note final boss of the STORY. Not the final NM of the Area the Dungeons are meant to replicate.)

It would also be great if they would remove the de-leveling/losing exp if you aren't raised mechanic. That just makes it even harder to do this content up the line because if you go into a dead instance to try and solo anything, you risk losing exp and actually losing progress instead of progressing further.

Wow, you all could enjoy your time much more if you didn't worry too much about getting absolutely everything, though I'm sure I don't have to tell you that. Just say goodbye to Eureka. There wasn't any fun in it to begin with, except for some people here and there and I don't judge them for it but most of you are just submitting yourselves to torture.

Depending on just how much of a buff the "light" phase of the relic grind got, it might be worth suffering through. We will have to see once the servers come back up. If it's big enough to actually make a difference then I may end up giving Pagos a go after all.

Yep, people have been saying that in FFXI for years too.

I think the FFXI stuff can be gained from those cold wrapped chests or what the bunnies dig up. I'm guessing they did that because of all the boxes and fireworks that we kept getting from Animos. Unless those items have use in Pagos or in all Eurika, its just not that compelling to waste as much time in FFXIV for the FFXI glamours in this manner.

Given the ilevel cap they should have had i300 enchanted gear and weapons made available to purchase as early as Animos, or by lv26 in Pagos just for use in Eureka. This would have helped make the grind easier and less of a life sync.

This is my take also. Put something else inside of Eureka for those that like that type of gameplay.

This content suffers from the age old problem of improper/problematic incentivizing. This is an area in which SE still has to improve upon in my opinion.

mug does not affect fate rewards, and being what the NM are basically fates whit NM spawn conditions... well, i am doubtfull mug can affect the drop rate

Place daily quests in the hub that grant exp or light (at max level)

Grant light from the Challenge log when you're max level

Have a weekly quests that drops 1 Louhi Ice

The thing is Eureka does not belong in FFXIV as it is. It caters to a wide horizontal progression that is non sequitur from the rest of the game. I know FFXIV is secretly trying to go horizontal, but the game itself is preventing it.

That's why I think it's a good thing to have one content used as an experiment. If they can't find a way to make horizontal progression work properly, it won't break the whole game.

Increasing the experience from the challenge log and increasing light gains is a step in the right direction but Pagos still needs a lot of work. It is still not a fun place to go. The experience and level loss on death needs to go as this makes you not want to explore especially in Pagos where the chain grind makes people a lot less willing to help others. The rewards from the bunny chests needs to be improved especially if the experience penalties don't go. As it is getting a grade 5 materia as a reward for risking potentially hours of grinding is not worth it. The drop rate of stuff like the emote, pets, and other fun factor items needs to be improved. All monsters need to have a chance at cold warped lockbox dropping and a chance to mutate / adapt that boosts the drop chance with no weather / time restrictions.

The spawn rate of the Notorious Monsters needs to be brought to Anemos levels at the minimum. Going a full lockout and seeing half or less NMs than you see on an average Anemos lockout just makes Pagos feel very unrewarding especially considering how few lockboxes etc you get from each NM in Pagos. Sitting and doing chain grinding for hours is not fun and it is actually something that causes real life pain in people's hands and wrists. This design needs to be changed as I can't imagine the developers of FFXIV want to cause carpal tunnel syndrome in their customers.

I agree with most of this - but I feel that the exp penalty should stay. One of the big reasons that Eureka is as dangerous as it is is to scratch the itch that a lot of players had who WANTED dangerous areas to explore. The danger becomes a farce, if the only penalty is respawning at the start point. That said, I do feel that there are some changes that should be made; the exp penalty shouldn't be as severe as it is. It should be half or less the loss it currently is. Additionally, folks should be able to build up a "buffer" - that's something that made the exp loss in FFXI a lot more tolerable, the fact that they could gain exp beyond max level, to a point (they just couldn't advance another level), and could rely on that exp to cushion losses from death and prevent deleveling. Lastly, mobs in Pagos are too fast - when you're running full tilt away from an enemy, that enemy shouldn't be able to hit you. That was the case in Anemos, and I'm not sure why they changed things up for Pagos. It's fine for the dragons, since they're basically meant to be traps, but not regular mobs.

In theory the exp penalty is severe, but in practice, I have not once ever died and not gotten a res. Only exceptions being once when I accidentally released instead of waiting for a res when I died at king igloo once and another time where I dced when dead. In practice, the 'penalty' isn't losing exp but having to shout out my location in shout chat and wait for a reser to come my way.

Similarly, the element system is interesting in theory but in practice you just stack five points in one element and spin the wheel based on what you're fighting. Nothing actually changes. You just spin it to the weakness of what you're killing, or in a few cases, spin it for defense if you're tanking something that hits hard or focusing on healing.
