Definitely need double the items we have now for mediums and larges
This is a huge pain point for many decorators and probably the most wanted change by those who decorate.
Think of it from the perspectives of different players:
1. The average player will never reach that 400 item limit, because they use furniture as intended and quite frankly, furniture is the most expensive in-game good.
2. The decorator plays mainly to decorate. They want to make creative designs and think outside the box. They often play Legos or IKEA hacking to create new furniture from various other pieces of furniture and they use many many more items. For these people the item limits are very restrictive.
I would advocate to double all of the item limits and here’s my reasoning why:
There is always a trade-off between space and item-to-space ratio (item ratio from here on). The smaller the space, the better item ratio. However, the smaller the space the more we are restricted on what we can do creatively. Most of my design plans are foiled because of spatial restrictions even in large houses.
Apartments and FC rooms have the best item ratio at 100 items but the worst space. The space is very small and easy to fill. There are enough item slots to create fairly elaborate designs. Unfortunately, the space is too small for a lot of design ideas, particularly with large furnishings like the Gold Saucer Slot machines.
Cottages/small houses have a similar balance. They are approximately twice the size of an apartment and have twice the items at 200 items. We can still create fairly detailed designs although it’s a little more restrictive when we consider stair cases and that the basement is slightly bigger than an apartment. Space for larger design ideas is still a problem.
Houses/mediums have the best balance between space and item-ratio. The item ratio is not as good as that of an apartment. A house is approximately 6x the size of and apartment but only has 3x the item slots at 300 slots. However, the space in a house is also less restrictive and we can work with larger design ideas.
Mansions/large houses have the worst item ratio but the best space. Mansions are approximately 16x the size of an apartment but only have 4x as many slots at 400 item slots. That means large houses allow for the most creative and elaborate designs in theory but you can’t fill them up. What people end up doing with mansions are the following.
1. They are empty. The restrictive item limits lead to bare bones designs with little details. Few designers are able to pull off large open spaces without the space looking empty.
2. Designers do a somewhat detailed design on two floors and block off the third. I personally find that behavior extremely obnoxious but that discussion is for another day.
3. Designers make one or two elaborate pieces and sparsely decorate the rest of the house with very very very few items.
