Jump puzzles? this is the best they could think of? Now Im certain theyre completely out of ideas
It's an easy thing tho. Jusy abit of jumpy fun, and it's new for the event. What did you want them to do? Do you have a better idea? I'm just asking.
Why yes I do prefer a level 30 FATE that is impossible to complete day 1 because there's 300 players in the same spot on the map.
Theres plenty of ideas floating around. How about remembering eorzea, Finding certain npcs that were pivotal to you starting out, or side story of a few npc adventurers youve met along the way. Maybe training new adventurers in fates, get some more of that active time function goin on. Something that requires the player to think, or something that just shows they put more than 5minutes thought into it.
This honestly, is just sad imo.
I don't mind a jumping puzzle honestly. The game wasn't made with this kind of activity in mind, but I'm sure something where everyone's supposed to be able to participate will keep things manageable. Definitely better than more FATEs at least.
I dont believe that. Rath people have to think and change and people hate it. I think this event is fine.
I had fun.
They'd never do that in a seasonal event. If you missed it, you'd either have to wait until next year or look up videos on YouTube. Not to mention, it'd be pretty difficult to do something like that every event. You'd eventually run out of NPCs. Things like that would be better put into an expansion, like how you meet Arenvald, who specifically brings up how you helped him.
I thought this was gonna be a complaint on how the glasses with /visor clip with almost every single hairstyle. What's wrong with jumping puzzles?
The game uses fixed jumping, i.e. your jumps have a set distance and can't be altered or adjusted in midair. Kind of like the prinny games for PSP. You have a "tap" jump which is one distance and you do by tapping plus jumping, and a long jump you hold and jump. But because you can't adjust jumps in midair, the difficulty is that you overshoot your target a lot. And have to redo a lot of jumping to get back up.
Plus they like to make platforms a lot smaller in visual appearance then they really are. So you have to ignore them, a lot of times you need to land on what is empty air due to the fixed jump.
I did it, i just chuckled because its so SE. You either can deal with jumping puzzles or dislike them, they really aren't all that likable.
It wouldnt be required for every event. Something different each time. Hence my point of "this is all they could think of"
There are ideas they could use, with things already in the game. A bit of thought and creativity is all thats required. Im sorry, but "jump around here and there" just doesnt cut it. Im glad ppl enjoy the puzzle element, if it were a PART of a creativly thought out event, Id be ok with it.
I feel like Gaius (the players) is speaking to Garuda (SE) here "I say again, is that all"
There are multiple distances of jumps based on whether you were walking/running before and how long. While the distance can't be adjusted midair, the direction can.
Not that I like ff14 jumping, but the idea that it's 100% set is just incorrect.
Anyway,
People have asked in various forums for more jump puzzles. It's not laziness to listen to what people ask for, especially for something like moonfire faire which is always a very small event that's supposed to be a giveaway of easy prizes (like emotes).. They ask for it so much that 4.4 will even come with a new MGP event that's going to be a jump puzzle. Tell people, especially in JP, to stop asking for jump puzzles
Since you complaint about them being unoriginal by adding a jump puzzle, I took the liberty to look at your ideas...
Sounds a bit like that optional quest at the end of HW that sended you back to talk to a few NPCs that you met during HWs... I also kinda remember a lot of reminiscent quests of one kind or the other... Both as events and as normal quests aswell.
Sounds a bit like Squads to me... or doing FATEs with your chocobo.
Are we talking about mashing one button in content like Susano and Shinryu or about those "aim at this"-minigame? In the later case: There are so many quests, even repetable ones, that use that feature now... also: last years summer-event made use of it aswell, in the form of, ehm, keeping watch at the beach.
How does any of what you suggested requires the player to really think?
Its supposed to be a fun, little event, not re-invent the game - and I take anything over FATEs (even if done with NPCs) every day.
For some of your suggestions I honestly cant even say how they fit the general idea/spirit of the event - its a beach party at Costa del Sol, why would we wander around Eorzea to remember our old battles or comrades? Why would we be at the beach in swimwear to train new adventures (unless we're training them in staying away from that lalafell and how to consume lots and lots of booze)?
I'm personally having a lot of fun. I don't think it's the devs' fault that some people don't know how to enjoy seasonal events ;
We got that for Easter! The Gridanian characters anyway. I’m certainly hoping we get something similar for the other cities at some point.
As for this particular event, the jumping puzzle is fine. It certainly beats traveling halfway across the country for Yet Another Inspirational Story about characters you’ve just met and probably won’t see again. And we still got one of those anyway.
When I did it earlier, a lot of people were running beyond the target NPC and onto an additional optional puzzle - right up to the top of the tower, I think. So yes, unless I missed an extra quest somewhere, people are enjoying this event and doing it for fun.
Seasonal events are just supposed to be fluff. that's it. you're expecting too much out of them.
It would be fun with some sort of lore related quiz. You know, something like the Ragtime Mouse's special battles in FF9: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5iISPrBZ0m0
Edit: not thinking of this one seasonal in particular, just a general idea.
Neither do you, which was my point - and which is why I dont get your issue here. You suggested that they use something thats already in the game to create a new kind of event, correct?
...and thats what they did - they just picked an element (the jumping puzzles), that you, for some reason, dont seem to like.
I dont recall a jumping puzzle being part of an event so far, so in this context its seems more like a breath of fresh air than yet another type of FATE-grind (yes, even with NPCs) or some "running from NPC to NPC to hear what a great hero you are" (while wearing a bikini).
If I recall correctly, because we were celebrating that event in all of eorzea back then and the bombs were threating to ruin it? Maybe they were worried, zones would crash or they wanted to ensure that people who only just started in Ul'dah would still be able to participate. It was still about celebrating the Moonfire Faire though.
They are all fixed distances though, and the distance is set once you commit You can't change direction in midair, only on the ground. Most modern games don't actually use this, you control your distance directly and can adjust your jump in midair. Its more of an old school approach and it tends to be used in tough games like Prinny: Can i really be the hero? and Ghosts and Goblins. Kind of an acquired taste, which is why we don't see much use of it in anything but optional content.
It isn't like the jumps are that hard or the course is very long.
The entire thing up to the final tower is painfully easy as a Lalafell. Just hug the wall. The second phase of the final tower is annoying because players your size or larger than you, or on mounts completely block your line of sight. They made the jumping puzzle doable by all races, but I don't think they anticipated players griefing others by casting anything, or being on mounts,or piggybacking other players up it with the large 2-player mounts.
I don't really care for the jumping puzzles because the way jumping in this game works the game over-estimates or under-estimates your landing because it appears to use the length of time the key is pressed for the jump and movement direction. This means that players using the keyboard, or keyboard+mouse,mouse-only have no analog control over their movement. Players using a gamepad have analog control over their movement and have more opportunity to correct a landing.
I haven’t made to the top of the tower but i completed the event. It was fun. I’m actually happy they put something a bit more difficult... not for me as I don’t have the patience but I do appreciate it existing! Cool for the plauers they want to do it. Very very nice event :D
...look no offense but you can say all you like, but the jump is fixed, you can't change distance once you committed to it, and you only have a few set distances. Try jumping straight up. Now just tap the joystick forwards and jump. Now walk and jump. Now sprint and jump. All of them have fixed distances that can't be changed. You can't jump straight up, tap forwards, and land only a step away from your original position, you always jump straight up. if you tap forwards, its always the same distance. The only way you vary distance is by the methods I listed. Ninja jumps are the same, though the distance when walking/running might vary due to the fleet of foot trait.
you have no analog on controller either. Mostly whether you tap/walk, run, or sprint i think. You can't correct any landing; if its the wrong jump distance you overshoot
In just the last few minutes I've already thought of a few ideas they could have used to make this event something better. Using the event we currently have as a base.
Phase 1: Jumping to platforms, add in an ATE tidal wave to stop getting washed off.
Phase 2: Beam walking and jumping, add in exploding bomfish or jumping fish (telegraphed) to stop getting knocked off
Phase 3: Either keep the jumping puzzle as is coz we dont want players to think we hate them, alternatively as they did in the Valetiones event, use an instance for the event and tether 2 players together to make a more difficult climb
Still basically the same, but it's more than JUST a jump puzzle.
its better then one of the years of GO HERE, TALK TO HIM, YAY YOU DID A THING!
To be honest these sound like something better suited as a GATE in Gold Saucer more than anything. I mean the whole point of events is that they are accessible to every one, and some players just don't have the reflexes to deal with too many things going on at once. Even getting to top of the puzzle can often cause a rage amongst some players just because not everyone has the same skill to succeed at it.
Definitely I would like to see more event stuff when they happen, I find the single quest to unlock items and then the repeatable one to be lackluster considering it lasts for a few weeks. Give us opportunities to unlock older event gear perhaps or something else that isn't worthless you know
When I go to the beach in summer, literally the last thing I'd want is to have to sit around and take a lore quiz while there's water and sand and people having fun all around me ^^
Beach = doing something physical, swimming, playing volleyball, boating, riding down waterslides, eating unhealthy amounts of ice cream and countless other things. We'll have time for quizzes, remembrances and learning about 1.0 trivia during The Rising which is happening right after Moonfaire n_n
It's a seasonal event. Say it with me... SEASONAL EVENT! By the Twelve, I swear people will complain no matter what. There's like 5-10 posts on the forums right now about how hard Rath EX is. People complained about the Little Ladies event. And before that, people complained about the Valientione's Day event, all of which at some point required some for of thinking and was a little more than a jumping puzzle.
SE tunes it down a notch and people still complain, It honestly makes me wonder what the community wants from this game.
And what, pray tell, does this have to do with the Moonfire Faire? I don't recall training adventurers and remembering Eorzea as beach time fun. Now before you say, "they could do a different event instead!" Well, people look forward to these specific events because of their theme.
It was an example to make my point, which I think you missed. please see the attached comment for my theme specific change suggestion.
I also said in a previous post, "Make the event fit the theme" which is natural as thats the point of the event, but implement it content intelligently.
Please read the previous posts in order to get the context in which the comment you clipped was used.
The ones for the quest are okay. I’m not a fan of the optional one though.
Don't like it, don't do it. You are literally looking at an event that is finally different from the same-as-always and saying "but it's not different in a way I would have picked".
Okay.
Sure.
Now that we've all agreed that no you don't like it, those of us who don't assume that every event should be catered to our direct whims are going to enjoy our summer fun and you can sit in the corner ignoring the event and wait for The Rising, the FFXIV anniversary event where we... wait for it... remember past events of the game.
Seriously. You're not offering any reasons why jumping puzzles are a bad alternative to their standard Fed-ex chain of quests, you're just saying "I don't like it." Well, I don't like fates and ATEs. And now we're at an impasse.
Again, I reiterate, please read before commenting to form a valid opinion. I never said or implied it should be catered to me, I applaud those who enjoy it. Never did I satate it shouldnt be in there either, it shouldn't be there JUST by itself, note my suggestion on addings to the current event
