Hawk's Eye Sand ~100% HQ rate rotation / macro from pure NQ mats

As usual, I'm late to the party, but I always bring booze! :p

For these Hawk's Eye Sand / Veteran Sap, Liam_Harper has a pretty nice rotation here too:

It has extremely low stats requirements, which is wonderful.
As for me, I have my own versions here (for slightly higher stats with slightly better outcome), which are listed below.

First, before you have acquired any of the new 4.3 gear, you can try this low CP rotation:
Crafts: 1621 (1674 after food&med)
Control: 1452
Mininum CP: 460 (527 after food&med)
Food: HQ Tempura
Med: HQ Cunning Tea

This stats is achievable with Ala Mhigan gear before acquiring any of the new 4.3 gear. If your stats is low, I recommend going through the rotation manually. Even though this does not reach 100% HQ rate, you can simply use 1 piece of HQ mat, and then improvise on the spot. E.g. the first Basic Touch can move to 1 step earlier if a good pops, and the substitute with a Precise Touch. Then just move the Hasty Touch II to after the Precise Touch. This sort of little actions, together with some Prudent Touches landing on goods will be sufficient to bring the final quality to 100%.


If you have more CP, you can try this rotation:
Crafts: 1621 (1674 after food&med) [minimum just need ~1640]
Control: 1452
Mininum CP: 475 (542 after food&med)
Food: HQ Tempura
Med: HQ Cunning Tea

This stats is actually still achievable with the Ala Mhigan gear if you have done some nice overmelds without any of the new 4.3 gear. At this point, you can already macro this rotation, especially if you use 1 HQ mat (This macro has been written out for you below. Please scroll down).

Then, after making your first patch 4.3 ALC Offhand (i325), your control will be higher than 1500, so the above rotation will give extremely good results - almost 100% HQ without the need of any HQ mat at all:
Crafts: 1621 (1674 after food&med) [minimum just need 1633]
Control: 1500
Mininum CP: 475 (542 after food&med)
Food: HQ Tempura
Med: HQ Cunning Tea

Note that there is a Precise Touch already fitted in there to replace the Basic Touch in case a Good popped on that step, so there will be an error message, but you can ignore it.

After the end of the 2nd macro, if an Excellent pops, just skip the Innovation and jump to Byregot right away to avoid the Byregot falling onto a Poor.

A nice design here is that the final Ingen2 is actually running before Innovation. Thus, even if a Good pops (instead of Excellent) before Innovation, you can still skip Innovation, and get a much better quality output from the Byregot on Good (and then manually finish off the rotation). This is because Ingen2 is a critical action which you cannot skip even if a Good pops, but Innovation is something that you can skip if a Good appears.

With all these measures of further increasing quality ([1] chance of Precise Touch increasing IQ by one early in the rotation, [2] chance of a Good/Excellent falling on the Byregot, [3] chance of a Good/Excellent falling on the Innovation which can be manually applied onto the Byregot.), together with some occasional Goods along the way, even if the first Hasty Touch II fails, chances are that you will HQ the item anyway.

Once you have even more CP from the new 4.3 accessories, you can substitute the first Hasty Touch II with a Basic Touch, which will make it even more secure.

Bottomline: There is absolutely no need to go through the long and painful Maker's Mark for Hawk's Eye Sand. Since both the sand and the veteran sap are made from ALC, I think it makes sense to just keep ALC as specialist if you're just beginning to craft these items. And just use Initial Prep rotations like the ones listed above. It will save a lot of time.

You can choose not to use Innovation to save 18 CP for about 1800 less Quality.

Nice rotations here, I've been trying to make some myself but I only ended between 61-75% HQ chance. However, I have tow questions:
- how do you take a picture of the rotation? I can't seem to find this option on the simulator. Is it a screenshot that you crop out?
- Even though Seyb's rotations are nice, I noticed that they have a base cp of minimum 482. How is it possible, since the maximum with ala mhigan set is 476?

Yes, I just took a screenshot (from my phone) and cropped it.

As for CP: always look at the CP requirement after buffs. In this case it is 530 CP.

Matcha HQ gives 56 CP
Tempura HQ gives 54 CP
Baked Onion HQ gives 48 CP

Cunning Tea HQ gives 13 CP

You‘ll need at least 461 base CP for the rotation (matcha + tea). 463 with Tempura Platter. 474 without cunning tea.

So 476 CP + Tempura Platter HQ will be sufficient for the rotation.

You can achieve the required CP for Seyb's rotation with Tempura and tea. He's using Onion Soup.

The rumination rotation can also be used for crafting 4.3 gear in cheap melded Ala Mhigan without Makers Mark, but you will require mostly HQ mats. I've simmed with Matcha but Tempura works if you have 471 base CP and will yield about 1200 less quality. This sets you a bit low for the 4.3 Rings, even with all HQ.
With better melded Ala Mhigan and 1500 control, you'll hit 24900 quality, requiring 4600 starting quality (less with Tempura, but enough for the rings with all HQ mats).

Note if you're manual crafting, there's a tiny chance an Excellent proc before the Miracle will force you to use Miracle with a poor. If you don't want the risk and have all HQ mats you can use this rotation too.

That is a very strong rotation there, Seyb! It is even stronger than my listed rotations here. But it does require adding Rumination to the cross class panel.

I am currently trying to come up with a non-specialist, non-Maker'Mark, macro-able rotation with no RNG for the 4.3 gear. But it seems quite difficult with ala mhigan stats. Maybe I will just stick to Maker's Mark manual crafting until I get more pieces of 4.3 gear.

@ Seyb : Thanks for your answer! It was weird to see a base that exceed 476, now I understand that buffs were already counted.

I don't have great stats and I'm sure it could be improved, but it's not too shabby I think. As for 4.3 gear, I've found nothing worth mentioning beside MaMa.

I'm currently using a no-RNG, no-MaMa, no-HQ mats, no-speciaist 100% HQ rotation for my 4.3 crafter/gatherer gear, using HQ Matcha and NQ Cunning Tea (with no-tea, vendor-bought NQ tempura platter rotations for spec classes and i350 battle gear). The stats required are OBSCENE, and there is no way you can do it with the Ala Mhigan set. My current non-spec Craftsmanship is 1709, Control 1799, CP 491 and the rotation finishes without a single point of Craftsmanship, Control, or CP to spare. I would not recommend it unless you are a crazy masochistic meld fetishist like me though :P

The best I can come up with is scraping 20k quality with 1450 control, 469 cp, Matcha HQ and Commanding Tea. That would manage most of the pieces non-specialist with all HQ mats.

I opted to rotate specialists instead though to make my initial set. Much easier to non-specialist the gear once you have a 4.3 set to work with.

With your stats, I can modify the above non-spec rotation to reach 100% HQ as well. However, you seem to have found a rotation that saves 5 CP. Gratz.

One of my main goals was a rotation that worked without using HQ Cunning Tea since making/buying it in large amounts was extremely inconvenient on top of the food. This is the rotation I am using. Note that the calculator says 3942/3943, but in-game it does indeed finish at 3944, tried and true.

Nice! You were able to buff a Focused Touch instead of another Prudent Touch. Didn't see that possibility.:)

These macros are nice, but I'm wondering if there's a way to account for the possibility of poor condition on the Byregot's finisher.

Thanks. It is already accounted for. Right before you click the 3rd macro is the Excellent check point. If it is excellent, just manually press Byregot's Blessing, and then finish up. So the blessing will never land on a poor.

Was more wondering if the Rumination macros had any place to account for that.

Also, having the need of Rumination is, despite creative, still a slight burden with cross class skills. I personally won't opt for this rotation, especially for a final product. I don't think you can prevent the risk if the Steady Hand II is right before the Byregot's Miracle... You either have to go for an unprotected Miracle, or you'll have to eat the Poor on the Miracle... This is certainly an undeniable drawback of the Hawk's Eye Sand rotation that uses the Miracle+Rumination approach.

However, since the Hawk's Eye Sand is just an intermediate mat, I think the risk is OK. It's not going to hurt you much having one unlucky synthesis out of 20. The strength of that rotation is that you really have a very low requirement for all the stats.

For the Rumination rotations, with sufficient Craftsmanship you can replace the 3rd Piece by Piece with Observe+Focused Synthesis and still finish the synth. This allows you to switch Steady Hand II and Innovation around to account for a bad Excellent proc.

No, just replacing Innovation directly with Tricks of the Trade in a macro, meaning no more use of Innovation. This will reduce quality and CP.
It's not ideal, but if you have a few HQ mats anyway, then it may be a solution.

So this is Liam's rotation (small adjustment, as last "Prudent Touch" can be replaced by "Basic Touch"): (529 CP)

Ah, I see now. Because you can't have two Goods or Excellent side by side, so if the Trick goes off, you definitely won't have a Good or Excellent on the SH2, thus the Miracle is safe.

These are good, but I don't think I'll be switching specialists... need more red scrips for overmelds of Tier Vs. So I'll be utilizing non-specialist rotations... I'm just using Maker's Mark rotations to be safe at the moment, since I have only got 1 new accessory and a pair of new pants.

So, I tried to come up with a non-specialist rotation with my basic stats for the 4.3 gear. I've figured that, for now, since I won't have all the mats necessary before a while (darn namazu and Rhalgr money), I'll stick to crafting the tools.
After twisting my brain here and there, I came up with this:

It's not so great since you'll need 12000 starting quality, HQ tempura and HQ cunning tea. However, I think it's not too difficult to achieve.
Of course, there's always the MaMa alternative that works like a charm, but it's long and eats too much on your food and medicine.

I think Katlyna's rotation you listed here will be useful to somebody who doesn't have a full set of melded Ala Mhigan crafting set, and doesn't have ALC as specialist.

However, I would recommend everyone to put ALC as one of their specialists though. It makes sense since you need to make so many Hawk's Eye Sand and Veteran Sap anyway.

the good thing about this rotation though is that its simple and since we would naturally be taking less risks to create our upgrades thus using more hq if not full hq this will work well. its not 100% but its not far off that the risk isnt acceptable.

plus once you have crafted your own gear and added about 350 extra control (according to the simulator) you could half the hq mats required and hit 100%.

with the increased stats from all the new gear and melded this could even be a good enough rotation for the next set of raid gear. but only time will tell on that

either way i just started making my new set this evening before maintenance stopped me so if i get chance tomorrow i will be giving this a go.

Tell me how it turned out! As of now, this rotation is a bit useless for me if I can't craft the 4.3 gear with it.

So i was playing around in the simulator last night while maintenance was going on and found a few variations to hq the tree sap and hawks eye sand.

they do require a couple of hq mats to reach 100% but one variation needs no tea.

this one does not need tea however does require the xtra cp from being a specialist. its basically an alternative to using the specialist actions.
i was using my own control level which is rather low as i didnt fully meld the ala mhigan set so you could have higher control which would push this to 100% quality.

i was using another slight variation to these this morning to hq sands and sap just because i would rather use a rotation with no specialist actions so that i can use it on all crafting classes.

the problem with this one is that it requires slightly higher craft at 1568 the xtra cp from being a specialist but does use seafood stew instead.
if you have some of the new accs and melded them then this could be a good rotation, but as it stands none specialist craft classes would not meet the cp requirement without the new acc's

So, after some thinking, I came up with a rotation that shouldn't be used. I see it as a last ditch effort in order to craft the 4.3 gear with minimal stats and with non-specialists. Here it is:

I put a bit of Katlyna's rotation. As you can see, even then and with every mats in HQ (it's something more like 9664 or so), it doesn't even reach 100% HQ. Without any HQ mats, it goes to 23% chance.
To sum up: RNG involved, have to add Waste Not to the cross-class abilities and doesn't even go all the way to 100%.
The reason I'm posting it is because even MaMa isn't working for me. I tried different rotations with keeping a basis of 10 missing Flawless Synthesis (either because they missed or because there was a trick of the trade) and I can't finish the synthesis, which would have a pretty similar result as the rotation above. Still, 92% is pretty high and if luck favors you, it'll be possible to make it without enormous stats. Just thought it was interesting to post it.

Although, personally, if I were to do it with a non-specialist with these stats, I would choose to manually go through Maker's Mark and avoid double Patient Touches. You will have a lot more CP to play with due to all the Trick of Trades along the way.

As it turns out, your advice is right. Just before you posted, I actually managed a MaMa rotation that actually finishes the synthesis:

As you can see, I've added 60 CP and the synthesis goes through the roof. The reason is that I took as a basis only three trick of the trade and seven failed flawless synthesis. Note that, even though the synthesis is finished here, there's still 5 points of solidity left and 8 CP to make another careful synth III. The quality basis is a tad less than in the macro and it goes to 31% HQ chance without any HQ mats. I think I'll try this one to craft the tools, it should -normaly- work even with bad RNG (the game always surprises me with it).

Edit: It worked perfectly, everything went according to the calculations, even the RNG. As a bonus, I made both tools for the blacksmith, who's now at 1652 craft and 1459 cont, which will make the other tools and subsequently the rest of the gear easier to craft.

basically i melded the craftmanship to roughly match what you would get from hq tempure and used hq matcha instead.
then i added the roughly 80 xtra control we would get from having the new tools unmelded other than cp and came up with this modification.

this is using all hq mats so wouldnt be a really fast craft but once you have your bsm tools you could remove the rng of making the rest with this rotation.
also to note this is not using bsm spec for the xtra cp. so you could use a spec on bsm and remove the tea and should still come up the same.

as i was crafting the rest of my gear this evening i was using this rotation and some pieces have higher starting quality with full hq and this rotation could hq those without the extra 80 control. also with a couple of good procs i was gettng 100% aswell but that of course is rng in my favour.

was experimenting a little bit more today and modified some of the previous rotations i put forward for the veterans tree sap / hawks eye sand.

after getting a few of the new pieces and melding to cover my previous stats of my ala mhigan set i came up with some slight modifications.

this is a no spec rotation that only requires 1 hq mat, this allows you to use spec on something other than alc if you choose.

it only uses seafood stew hq which is a lot easier to produce than some other foods, however you do need hq tea.

truth be told though this is really only taking advantage of slightly higher stats once i have the new tools and rest of the gear the extra cp could probably simplify this a little further.

This rotation will let you make HQ Veteran Sap and Hawk Eye Sand with the new gear without any food or tea at all. It does require near cap CP and minimum 1694 control.

This is one of the things I would like to do, but never will. I just can't bring myself to spend millions on gear and materia to get enough CP. So, I stick with full scrip gear, which is enough for me.

I've actually never bought a single crafting materia myself this expansion. Materia can take a little time to accumulate, so the best time is leading up to a patch with a new crafting tier, but there are some decent sources.

-VI materia: Converting spiritbond lv70 gear. Pop a spiritbond potion, equip hq basic lv70 craft gear, meld any rubbish materia to it and quicksynth stacks of materials that sell, like twinsilk or gazelle leather. Visit Mutamix and hand over Eureka Materia. 3 from a quest after completing Ridorna. Several from other quests, like Kurenai or Namazu I think. Admittedly VI is the most difficult, but not vital to have on a set.
-V materia: You get 32 or so for completing every crafter lv70 class quest. Handing in Eureka materia to mutamix. The convert method will get you a considerable amount of grade 5. You can buy for 400 red scrips.
-IV materia. Perhaps the easiest. Your custom deliveries will get you a considerable amount a week from red scrips. I keep a stock of 500 of each. You can red scrip farm for more. Squadron missions are a good source too. Ixal dailies will give you a trickle of grade IV.
-I, II and III. Ixal dailies are by far your best source.

Craftmanship is generally the least desirable materia, so I'd avoid stockpiling it and sell on the surplus to fund buying more of the useful materia. I'd definitely recommend CP cap or close to it, it opens up so many possible rotations.
I'd argue making your own crafting gear isn't really much more expensive than full scrip gear, due to the amount of potential gil you lose if you had just spent the same amount of scrips on Kingcraft and sold them all before reset when the price spikes.

this rotation is pretty good if you have alc spec but the stat requirements are pretty high for people just starting to make the new gear and other than making these to sell (which is currently profitable) i still would prefer to use vender food and a no spec rotation which at the new meld cap stats is completely doable.

still the more rotations out there the better as there is always a use to someone.
