I've noticed something of late. When I'm on my main, RDM, I often get two or three comms and people seem to compliment me a lot or even joke around with me in dungeons.
When I'm on my SAM, it's the opposite. I'll even get rude comments sometimes. Now this could totally be because I don't play my SAM as well as RDM, I'll readily admit. But I'm not terrible. (Most of the time.)
It's weird. Do SAMs have a reputation of playing badly or something? Are people like, "Oh damn. A SAM. Prob a FOTM reroll." This has happened on other MMOs. I'm just curious if this happens here, too.
With me, I don't care who is in the group as long as we clear the dungeon without any problems.
Do people treat you differently on different jobs?

I've never noticed a change in the way people treat me. But I also greet everyone and keep lively in dungeons and that seems to do well in getting both commendations and friendships. No one has ever acted different because I was one class or one race.

I remember during HW I'd have healers not healing me on DRG for the meme, even when I'm taking less individual damage and most of the time what was killing me were room-wide unavoidable AoEs combined with the meme-maker healers...
Haven't had that problem with RDM or SAM though. -

No. Like you said, people on my dc don't care what job we got in the party as long as we clear the content and they did what they should.
If anything, most of the problem is healers that push healing work to their co-healer so they can push their dps regardless of what job they are. -

For Healer/Healer, I noticed that back when I did play WHM (and even more recently in the past year when considering levelling WHM up), I definitely got more comms more frequently as a WHM than as an ASTand it's not the case of knowing WHM better than AST, because I was very rusty with WHM skills and such XDD. As a WHM, I would usually get 2-3+ per dungeon/raid/trial/etc., but as an AST I'm lucky to get more than one at time. When AST first came out (for a good few months) I almost never received comms as an AST, and was often excluded from parties in PF as they would choose WHM or SCH in specific (usually WHM). Now, that isn't so much of an issue.
To contrast healer & DPS, if I give pointers on mechs as a healer, I almost always get commendations and people almost always listen to me; however, when I give pointers as a bard/DPS, I almost never get comms and sometimes am outright ignored or given lip, like "you don't pay my sub."
P.S. I can do an amazing job (imo XD) as bard with making sure to always be playing my songs, using certain buffs in certain situations strategically, making sure to pop MP/TP regen as necessary, dealing a lot of damage, popping up a lot of procs, etc. and still get no comms. I don't think it has anything to do with performance/knowledge sometimes. I think people are less likely to watch/observe certain DPS classes.

I had issues with LNC/DRG as well, but in ARR. I even had people harassing me in my first few dungeons as a young and ignorant lancer about being an "LOLdragoon." I had no idea I would one day transform into a beautiful dragoon so I was like "...I'm a lancer, not a dragoon. o.O /newbness flaunts full blast/." The harassment did die down after a while (I rarely had issues with AoEs), but there were the occassional monkies who wouldn't heal me for being an "LOLdragoon," or would spout off unwarranted remarks in dungeons & such. Out of all the classes I tried, I think I definitely got the most harassment as a LNC/DRG.Quote:

I got way more comms when I used to main ninja back in HW. Now that I main samurai, I get significantly less. But hey, it's to be expected when Goad is the best you can give someone. Also, samurai are always the last ones to be rezzed, in my experience. Which also makes sense, to a degree. Sucks to suck, I guess lol

As a dps class(SAM), I often get complaints that we are always the one to die often.
Doesn’t help that many endgame fights nowadays seem to favor mechanics that kill a dps in 2-3 hits, if not killing us outright, there are 4 dps in any given party, and it is on us to perform flawlessly due to the hard enrage... -

Its because SAM offers no utility. So there is a high pressure to play well. If you play SAM and are playing anywhere near below par, you are hurting the group. That is why SAM gets judged so hard. BLM has mana shift so they arent set to the high standard of SAM but they are up there.
However people do treat you different jobs. DRK compared to WAR and PLD in leveling roulette. Remember the hate MCH got before SB. Remember PLD all through 3.x
How could we forget 4.0 WHM?
Most people treat you different due to balance reasons. -

Well to be fair any subpar dps in endgame gets the scrutiny...but yes SAMs have to be better than better if that makes since, to make up for the fact that they offer little to nothing to the party besides their own personal dps...

I usually get compliments on my sam because I aoe which is kinda sad tbh. Are sams notorious for not aoeing? Also I've noticed people tend to be a bit more judgemental when I'm playing healer or tank.

To put it bluntly, it's more than the lack of raid buffs, SAM are notorious for being bad. I can count on one hand the number of SAM that have done impressive numbers in my parties. The vaaaaast majority do extremely sub par damage and die quite a lot. Granted, it's a stereotype, but a prevalent and backed up one.

I've never paid much attention... I know I'm a terrible healer, a mediocre tank and a damn fine melee dps (SAM life)... feels like coms are low all around lately... but I usually get at least one per run (unless the party was total garbage and hostile throughout, you know the kind)...

This isn't a game where jobs are so underpowered you have to do dungeons in all SAM parties because no one will take you. I think SAM suffers a bit more since its a charge based melee class with a bit of calculation in its style, in a game where OMG RUN MOAR seems to be the dominant mode of encounters this patch.

I don't know, I'm mostly a casual player, the only ex I've participated in are whatever's required by Khloe (so unsynced), and I've never tanked. as AST, I've experienced getting jokes/sarcasm about balance cards, while as SMN or RDM I sometimes get to joke with healers about our party (in alliance raids mostly) being safe from wipe. I guess I haven't encountered discrimination due to my job unless I performed really bad, but I'm my own worst critic, I'd probably incriminate myself before others do :P

tbh I wouldn't notice, I main only SMN. Run SCH/PLD with full FC party lol (who are just happy someone else will heal/tank). On SMN it doesn't matter if I'm propping up our constantly-dead healers, using my party buffs/pet to compliment party comp, aggro-reduction + out DPSing all our melee, the coms/praise will still go to the healers or RDM lol. I find it sucks being a DPS in general now, most healers spend time healing themselves up from their mistakes and blaming us for dying to unavoidable damage (do you have any idea how many potions I use in raids now? They don't work, but damn do I try. And Drain is now cross-roled, the fact that I genuinely need it to survive even a minute longer in a fight is so aggravating). Being able to get out even average DPS with all the insane mechanics and constant death is pretty darn impressive for a lot of average tier players.
Edit: I will say, the few times I went with randoms as a trash-tier healer, people were noticeably more patient/friendly when I made mistakes or made suggestions to people about classes they were playing. -

eh, back from the time i started playing to 3.3 I used to get a lot of crap for being a DRG, even if I dodged things, and took little dmg.
as a WHM, I get crap if i'm not on top of making sure everyone is at 100% HP all the time (grow up, not doing it. if you're at 80% and the Tank needs healing, get over yourself; I'm also not going to baby you with heals because you want to have the biggest DPS epeen in Lighthouse.).
I get a lot of people playing DRG go "i'm sorry, i didn't mean to die" and I reply "it's okay, you're a DRG, i've been there, you have animation lock"
When i play RDM i get asked why i don't heal/raise depending on what level the content is; when I play SAM I do notice I tend to be bottom of the list for getting heals.
DRK? I go in, i apologize in advance because I don't feel that confident about my tanking skills and do my best.
I get coms almost all around no matter what I play, but it's easy to see where people's minds do go. I'm not saying I'm the best at any of the classes, my DPS isn't the best in the bucket, I main WHM now, so i don't have the DPS rotations down pat any longer and I was leveling RDM and SAM for fun. I'm scared to death to leave Grit about 80% of the time unless I'm queuing with my healer and I let them know...so..it's all in perception. -

Some classes shine more than others, can't be helped. And SAM has little party utility at the moment so it's harder to get noticed.
Try using Goad on those who need it, AoE when called for (yes, a lot of SAM don't do it much...) and time limit breaks well. Assuming you don't yet, and if you do, then... Senpai will notice you some day. -

If you play a whm you escape comments about giving the party the wrong buffs, which is nice.
I once zoned in to an instance as sch, I had Eos out because of some very low level content I had done just before and the tank literally said to me "oh you think I'm a s*** tank then? You don't want to use Selene?" before I even had the chance to say hi.
As ast I tend to get unlucky streaks in which I draw little other than ewer and spire. At one point I got one of these streaks and when I drew bole figured well if nothing else I'll have less healing to do so I can do more dps, better than casting no buffs...and the bard went crazy at me for not magically drawing dps cards. -

People are always going to notice and appreciate SMN and RDM when they help out with raising and/or healing, above almost all other damage jobs. It's just easier to notice when one of them saves a group from a wipe than it is to notice when MNK or SAM is doing great damage.
I've never gotten rudeness on any damage job though. Any hate I've ever gotten has come from playing a tank - pointing mobs the right direction while never losing hate or dying just isn't enough for...an oddly large number of people I've encountered. -

Got called out for not doing enough damage because I stopped DPSing to help the /single/ healer they decided to bring raise the rest of the party as most of them had died to mechanics or simply not being healed fast enough. Apparently trying to help the raid when the boss wasn't even close to being downed was enough for someone to get testy. I remember it pretty fondly however because when the pony did drop, I was the one who rolled highest for it. The person yelling at me immediately left the party along with what I can only assume were their buddies, and I haven't stopped laughing about it even years later.Quote:
