DRK 4.2 Buff is a .50 - .60% DPS increase.

Delirium

Delirium Recast time has been reduced from 120s to 80s.

What does this mean for Dark Knight's DPS output? Well, it means you get one extra Delirium every 240s.

For starters, each extra Delirium nets you 2400 MP and lose 50 Blood. The reverse of using a willy-nilly TBN, which has been deemed to be a tiny potency loss. Therefore, this exchange is a tiny potency gain. It's pretty insignificant though (something like 7 Potency every 4 mins) so let's move on.

When it comes to Blood Weapon

Before: 106s in Blood Weapon every 240s. (44.17% uptime)

After: 114s in Blood Weapon every 240s. (47.50% uptime)

(Based on 2.39 base GCD, 2.96 Auto Delay on Genji Nagamaki)

21.42s in Blood Weapon yields one extra GCD.

26.15s in Blood Weapon yields one extra Auto Attack.

Therefore, this Delirium change yields roughly one extra GCD every 10m25s and one extra AA every 13m05s.

Again, pretty insignificant change. When hitting a dummy for 13 minutes, we're talking fractions of a percent here, but more importantly, raid encounters often have lulls in combat that resets gains on tiny GCD/AA delays. The likelihood of gaining an extra GCD/auto from what equates to 8 seconds of Arrow every four minutes is tiny.

The REAL benefit of the Delirium buff is the MP and Blood you gain from Delirium.

Blood Weapon gives you 480 MP and 3 Blood Gauge per physical attack landed while it is active.

You get 7 GCDs under Blood Weapon without Delirium. You get 11 GCDs under Blood Weapon with Delirium.

Furthermore, you get an average of 3.00 auto attacks per 8 seconds under Blood Weapon (again, based on 2.96 Auto Delay on Genji Nagamaki).

This equates to 3360 MP and 21 Blood gained per 4 mins, via GCDs and Autos.

What about off-GCDs like Carve & Spit and Plunge?

Every other Carve & Spit is used in a Blood Weapon window. This does not change.

Plunge shouldn't be held to align with Blood Weapon. If anything, if Plunge usage is delayed, it is to align with mechanics to use as a gap closer. Therefore, it's more or less RNG as to whether you will get an extra Blood Weapon bonus from Plunge due to this change. Chances are, every other Plunge will be in a Blood Weapon window. The likelihood of getting an extra proc resulting from the new Delirium is small but still worth noting.

Overall, 3360 MP equates to 190 potency (1.4x Dark Arts). 21 Blood equates to roughly 56 potency (133 x 21/50).

Factoring in those tiny gains we talked about earlier, Dark Knight is gaining roughly 65 Potency per minute.

Based on Deltascape encounters and random 95 percentile logs I've plucked, these changes to Delirium will result in a gain of 0.50% to 0.60% increase in DPS.

It's insulting, that's all.

The changes were just as bad as I expected them to be and yet I'm somehow still disappointed.

I laughed when I saw the changes. I thought it had to be some kind of sick joke. But it's not a joke...

So in other words we'r more balanced around other tanks because they've been nerfed and not because we've been buffed

How much MP do you gain with a 2.33 gcd? How much blood does the change give you if you had a 2.29 gcd? What about if you use Delirium on BW and get down to a NIN-like 2.09? How much MP, or how many DAs, or how many GCDS? I challenge you to think again about this. I mean REALLY think before you sound the next call to arms and rage all over the forums for ANOTHER raid tier.

This has been mathed out already. it is somewhere between a 1.8 pps and 3.2 pps increase. Which is very tiny. This amounts to 8 more seconds of blood weapon in a 240 second inveral. Which amounts to a little more than 1 Dark arts worth of mana and about 1 bloodspiller worth of blood, the haste effect is accounted for too. Thats every 4 minutes. This isn't exactly the level of buff Dark Knight would need.

That doesn't actually affect DPS unless the DRK in question was bad with timing TBN properly. It will still give the same amount of gauge, it will still protect you for the same amount. That one is just quality of life, really.

All that does is make more DRK players better at using the skill, less "give everyone more blood." It just widens the pool, without changing the amount of water in it.

I agree I was too harsh there DRK is viable. But still well short of balance with the other Tanks.

If you were using TBK and it's not breaking immediately you are better off to use your mp on anything else.

The Blackest Night change is only a QoL change that makes it easier to mitigate damage. It wont help drks dps at all.

TBN is actually a dps loss for drks (especially outside of tank stance). Since TBN and Dark Arts share the same MP cost, you basically trade one for the other. Even though TBN gives blood, your MP is better spent on DA: Siphon Strike, Souleater or Bloodspiller. because the potency increase is the exact same on said skills. On top of that, you want to have MP so you can DA: Carve and Spit every time it's off cooldown. The only way TBN will ever be viable outside of being a damage mitigation utility, is if drks could gain more MP than they spend.

But what if DRK use TBN everytime its up?
If it breaks, it translates to 50 blood gauge and further for good damage abilities that use the blood.

You could use TBN for mitigation everytime it is up, break it and use the blood for quietus in order to restore the MP used on TBN, or bloodspiller for bigger damage.
For example in the trial where the TBN sometimes doesnt break, its a waste, those 2 sec extra could benefit DRK so much, it will be a constant source of blood.

Im curious how it will be in practice, because timing it is a good thing to do, but maybe the change will make it so it will provide gauge no matter what moment you used it.

Just guessing.

There has been alot of math done on TBN. If you are a grit dark knight then yes, this will help you out by breaking more frequently. If you use your tank stance more as a suggestion then this changes nothing as you want to minimize its use.

I didn't play DRK before (despite having a 70) and these changes don't make me want to play one.

Even with a 3% Dark Knights would still be worthless with their lack of utility and the inability to bring slash buff.
Even with the buff DRK will be the worst choice for MT or OT and your party will be weaker for choosing you over a WAR or PLD.
A double DRK group would also be at a massive disadvantage where a double WAR or PLD group would be perfectly fine.
The devs must either not play and thus don't understand or don't care because the entire playerbase knows DRK is useless.
Yes they CAN clear any content but it will be much harder than if they were any other class.
Groups will be at a disadvantage just by your presence.
I don't understand how or why they are turning a blind eye to such a glaringly flawed class.
PLD and WAR still both do more DPS than DRK and they have multiple tools that drk has no answer for.

The context of when the game came out when everyone complained about it on steam and what not prompted the response from the creator, Keji Inafune when everyone was displeased where he said "it's better than nothing guys so love it". It's kinda what SE did with Drk here's these buffs now go my pretties go raid! Where it's buffs by technicality.

Dark Knight is not in a good place, but they are far from broken.

Really? So they aren't the weakest in offense, defense ad utility?

Because they are. They are all these things.

Even before this patch, Warrior was being heavily favored with bigger, much more frequent adjustments, including that addition of a party-shield SiO after Stormblood released. It's a bit weird how Warrior gets so much more dev attention, especially when most of the feedback at least on EN forums was requests for DRK improvements. I don't know about JP, but over here the general feeling was WAR is fine and please don't change it. I think DRK has the most interesting gameplay style of the 3 tanks especially after WAR gets made more basic with pretty much no gauge management necessary. Just a shame that DRK seems to get neglected when it comes to patch buffs even though it was never the strongest.
