I've been having a problem during raids for the past few weeks (and probably elsewhere while logged in, but more noticeable during raids), with non-stop, consistent network lag and rubber banding.
I've been running a constant ping to the lobby server (209.2.229.9) and to Google's DNS (8.8.8.8) while attempting to raid and while I get no packet loss to Google, I'm getting 4%-11% packet loss consistently to SE's lobby server. No spikes in MS time.
I've gotten to the point where I cannot even complete O3S and O4S due to the rubberbanding.
ISP is Cox. I don't believe it to be my setup here, since I'm having trouble getting a consistent Tracert from the Cox hop out.

Your not alone in this. I hail from Sargatanas. and i've been having the similar issue for the past 10 days. but its very apparent at all times. Tried running Rabanaster. (12,000 ping on a boss was impossible to do anything) but following in your foot steps, i received the same results of no issue anywhere else other then in 14's servers.

Right-Click on the FFXIV launcher icon and select "Properties"

Please RESTART your PC now.
Once your PC has been restarted, Right-Click the FFXIV launcher icon once more and select "Run as Administrator"
If the suggestions provided above do not resolve the issue, then there is a communication error.

If you continue to receive these same errors when you are connected directly to the modem, then the problem lies with your ISP. We would recommend contacting them and advising them that one or more of the ports previously provided to you are being blocked or filtered, and that you do need access on these ports.

So it appears to not be working still. I logged in around 4PM MST and everything was smooth. However after logging back in around 8:30PM-9PM MST, I'm getting a large amount of lag (and a few disconnects).
My pings to the lobby server look like:

Sounds like you're getting routed through some congested/bad hops when going to FFXIV services. If you can, try using a free trial of a VPN like WTFast while playing to see if your issues clear up. If so, you can either invest in a VPN or ask Cox to find a better route (you'll have to be really, really persistent with the second option though- and there's no guarantee they'll actually do it for you).

It leaves my network just fine and Cox hands it off to NTT Communications in Los Angeles (lsanca, Hop 6-8) at which point it seems to be having a hard time. The loss continues as its transferred to San Jose (snjsca, Hops 9-12).
Is it possible there's something going with NTT's network in California? -

I had to reply because I am having the same exact experience not sure of the start date but past couple weeks have been getting an unbelievable amount of lag, it is present on both a wired PC and wireless PS4.
Nothing has changed on router/modem settings, I have contacted ISP which actually is also COX and according to them nothing has changed as far as what they are sending to me as a connection.
I have ports forwarded on PS4 but not PC and either way it's lagging on both devices.
And as you recently mentioned even trying to load FFXIV websites take forever to load.
If you don't mind me asking Ravenguard what modem and router do you have?
If you try out the VPN and have good results please let me know so I can look into it -

I've been struggling with FFXIV for this particular issue for over a month now, and when I originally discovered it during a FFXIV raid, I immediately contacted my ISP. They sent out a technician and even went as far as to replace my Modem/Router combo. At that time, however, I thought it was fixed as I hadn't realized that the issue was unique to FFXIV/NTT, seeing has how after the tech call/modem replacement I wasn't noticing any lag to other online games I was playing (never the case).Quote:

I found it. So I had multiple members of my raid group (who had no lag) run Traceroutes for me and the one thing they all had in common is that they didn't route through Los Angeles. They had no lag, and were all routed into San Jose, then to the datacenter. Which lead me to the culprit:

Cox hands it off to NTT, who sends it to another router which is having supreme issues. Everyone who doesn't route through Los Angeles is fine. But around 7:30PM PST, this hop becomes completely congested and makes connections to FFXIV unstable and unplayable.
So my question is "Can anything be done about this node?" -

Chalk me up as another player having the same issues.
Before I go on, this is a FFXIV, Square Enix issue. I'm not having any issues with Blizzard, Origin and even EPIC Games (playing Fortnite). Net Neutrally is starting early here. Cox is not the preferred provided for SE.
My current IP is from Cox. I've tried all the troubleshooting and various other attempts to "fix" these lag spikes. I personally believe SE is throttling any Cox user. SE needs to fix this or let us know who are the recommended providers.

Adding my voice to this thread. ISP is Cox and my connection becomes completely unplayable after 6pm. Just re-subbed and brought friends over who are having the same issues (they also have Cox). Looks like we are being routed through LA also.
No other game is affected, but FFXIV and the Square Enix websites all are having issues.
This thread has been really insightful. Hope Square has a fix coming soon or else this is gonna be one short re-sub -

Unfortunately it seems this issue is outside of our spectrum of support at this time. I will be reporting this issue to a higher department, so we can keep an eye on this issue. It seems to be that the problem is in the way your connection is being routed. Which is something we cannot address. I know that this is frustrating and effecting your enjoyment of the game. We are trying to find the best way to assist everyone with their connection issues, but because of the dynamic nature of the network and the multiple parties involved, we have little control over the matter. Please note that there are many parties/companies between you and the servers, this means that if there is a hiccup along the way (sometimes caused by local conditions), we may have trouble assisting. The nodes through Los Angeles (operated by NTT) has no connection or affiliation with Square Enix. Because of this, we recommend that you report your connection issues and packet loss to your ISP and specify exactly where the problem is occurring. We are escalating this on our side as well so it can be investigated and reported. Unfortunately, we cannot get a fix at this time, but we hope we can assist in any way we can.
