why not have repeatable version of the story quests?

iremember yoshi said they couldnt figure out how to let people replay the story quest, but we already have the system for repeatable quests like in the relic/holiday events quests

why not just do that? just make it so you agree to reset the whole chain so we dont have same npc in multiple places

And I agree, it'd be a waste of dev resources in my opinion.

The game sets flags based on completed quests. They would basically have to redo the quest system entirely so redoing a quest wouldn't break your character.

I would like to see something like this added for certain solo duties like the 4.1 one. Add those to the Endless Journey and queue up from there.

They have a system similar to this in LoTRO where each 'area' has it's own memory pools where you can visit and relive the quests that were given in the region. It was a nifty feature that didn't quite do enough in my mind but gave those looking to experience certain events again some manner to complete them, though as to be expected it mostly consisted of instanced questing. If they had the time I wouldn't mind seeing a similar feature make it's way here, especially since the roadblock that is 2.1-2.55 is something many have no desire to experience wholesale once more just to replay a handful of later quests.

I want this, no rewards ofc. Just reliving the quest is enough from unending journey or something.

I don't really care so much for redoing the entire quest, but what I want is the ability to re-do solo duties. Multi person duties can be re-done over and over, so why not the solo person duties?

I'd very much like something like this aswell! Not just for the mainstoryquest but also for any longer quest-chain - Hildibrand, the Theologikum in Ishgard, the quest/cutscene-heavy quest-lines each area gets...
Just making a new character isnt really the solution here - sometimes I'd like to see just one specific quest again, that might actually require playing through 80 hours (or more...) of story/game that I dont want to see again.

Ofc those quests should have no rewards!

I dont see how this is "pointless" - at least for me it isnt! I play FF-games for their story and I started this game for its story. On singleplayer-games I normally have as many savegames as I can have, so I can jump to any point in the story I might like to repeat. I know your argument is going to be "But if you like the story so much, you should just play the whole story again (and you can do that)!" - but here is the thing: sometimes I'd like to refresh my memory of a certain part of the story. Or I'd like to go back and replay Hilli without having to go through 50 hours of ARR-story before. In a solo-game I can put savegames at any point I want, so I can repeat certain parts of the story (and believe me: I do that) - due to the nature of this game, I cant do that. But when the current mainstory makes a reference to something that happend in a quest from ARR that I played through 4 years ago, I'd love to go back to that quest and refresh my memory.

I can see how this might prove to be difficult regarding flags etc. (my proposed soultion would be: just generate all the NPCs that are needed for that quest again - dont move them, just generate a second Lyse. Call her Memoryghost-Lyse, if you must. That way every set flag could stay in place, every NPC could stay in place but we could still replay a certain story-part)

The ability to re-run Solo Duty points is a Must Have. At least the MSQ ones should be able to be replayed. Ie create a instance point that is triggered during the Unending Journey on that quest, [Do you want to re-battle? {Yes} {No}] If yes, it tosses you back in; if no it resumes the cs from the next point per normal. Would it be complicated to implement, Probably. Worth it for the player base? Likely. I'd pay to be able to rerun the Grand Melee or The Conference in Ala Mhigo to name two of the really fun solo battles.

But why should the devs work on something like this just to appease a very small portion of the players, especially since you can just make a new character. I know you don't want to make a whole new character for that but this isn't a single player game, the resources that are flowing into this game are at the very best minimal. I would say at least 1/4 of the player base in the game aren't even in XIV for the story or even played any of the other FF games.

Not quite. It does not allow you to relive quests as such, but only to relive quest instances.

For the very same reason they develop things like Savage and Ultimate. Or PvP. Or LoV. Or one could even argue: gathering, crafting, female-only clothes and more than one job per category (aka: more than one tank, healer and dps-job). I'm pretty sure that most people dont experience everything in the game - and the devs cater to that by releasing a wide amount of things to keep us busy while trying to cater to our intrests. Some intrests are shared by more people, some shared by less obviously.
Regarding this change, I'd argue it would be a very "easy" and efficient way to give people something to do in the game for the simple reason that once they set up a system that allows to re-do quests they dont need to develop any new content specially for that system and yet give people who enjoy doing quests an aweful lot of content to do. Give a man a fish or teach him how to fish and so on.

Right now I'm not logged into the game because theres nothing to do - if I could replay the Hilli-quests for example, I'd defintely do that though!
By giving people the option to re-play quests they'd basically "create" an aweful lot of content without having to develop that content (a second time).
Saying "Not everyone wants that" isnt a great argument not to put something into a game thats filled with things to pick and choose from.

Yes but most of the time that's new stuff released it's not like they go back and remove old raid mechanics from ARR/HW because people want to solo them or go in via unsync'd. Ever hear the term can't appease 100% of the players/people 100% of the time.

You would argue for it because you want it, but that doesn't mean it's worth the effort to do so when you can arguably just make a new character. Just because you're lazy and don't want to rerun the full content doesn't mean that they should just make quests repeatable. The proverb teaching a man to fish doesn't apply to this.

If you want something bad enough then there's no excuse, you just do it. For example there's a few NIN glamours I want from 2 different dungeons, one of em a 40 and the other a 60 exp both have been ran about 15 times each in order to get the glamour, but I've not gotten them yet, does that mean i'm going to give up? Nope, just makes me more determined. If you farmed a relic when they were current or even when they're not you know the suffering people had to go through to get it, they wanted it bad enough they put forth the effort.

The first time it was asked for at NA fanfest, it got a joke answer, but I could have sworn that after being asked again at other events/interviews Yoshi said they would look into making popular ones replayable.

I basically said that they dont appeal to 100% of the playerbase 100% of the time and thats fine - and certainly not a reason to brush this request of with "not everyone wants that". They are constantly giving us new incentives to re-run old raids and dungeons, because they cant possibly release enough new content to keep us busy all the time. Allowing us to re-do quests would do excatly the same: it would create "more" content without having to actually develop that content after the initial system has been set up.

I play this game for fun and enjoyment - having to play through 50 hours of story to get to the quests I actually want to do each time I want to do them isnt fun or enjoyable.
And heck, ofc I argue for it because I want it - thats the whole point of requesting something: To let the devs know you'd like that feature and to potentially get enough other people to say "Oh yeah, that sounds cool, I'd like that too!"

I have farmed and completed 3 relics from the initial first stage in ARR to the last one in HW. Always when they were current. I've farmed both my ponies and my birds in synched parties, each time before unsyching those duties was a thing. I've gotten my PvP-rank up to 50 so I could wear certain PvP-sets, back when wearing them was tied to having a high enough rank. Believe me: I've put in plenty of effort. But your comparison doesnt hold up in this context: Once you get those nin-glamour-items you can keep them in your inventors and re-use them everytime you want. Thats why its worth putting the effort into them - once you've got them, you can keep them forever.
Those quests are the exact opposite: If I level up an alt to re-do them, I can do them once and after that I'd have to put the effort into leveling up again. Pretty much as if you'd farmed for those glamour-items for days and then you're allowed to glamour them once and after that you'd had to farm for them again.

Playing another character should not be an option to replay quests in a Quest game. This is still FF, whether devs or anyone doesn't want to admit, msq is -the- main feature, why put locks behind it if it's not. People want to gear other jobs, they're given crafting/gathering for option instead of telling them to play another character. There wouldn't be DF or PF or even instanced anything if people were only allowed to run duties once. It's not a sub or extra thing like raiding or gathering, those are optionals. Questing is the road leading to the theme park stuff. It's not a waste when devs put some effort on the main feature of the game.

I fail to get your point. On one hand you're saying they can't please everyone, on the other hand you're saying 'well if there's enough support...' which is exactly what this thread is for, making people stop to think about it and, should they agree they want it, upvote it or reply in the thread. No one makes a post in the forum thinking Yoshi-P is going to hand down a royal decree telling the development team to stop doing anything else and only implement their suggestion, but how else are we supposed to even have a chance at it?

How is that confusing? Just because you add something into the game doesn't mean that every single person asked for it or even want it.

People make these request threads thinking their idea is going to be heard after all in your own words that's exactly what you just said.

There's an in game suggestion that you can use that goes straight to the devs, unlike the forums which are more likely to fall on deaf ears so to speak.

The in-game suggestion is about their in-game support. You'd see they themselves tell people to go to the forums to leave suggestions about the game.
It makes zero sense for people to send suggestions directly to the devs. The forum is a much better system for that because they can see how much support an idea actually can get, instead of every single person sending their personal niche request. If it gets enough support, the forum reps pass it along. If it doesn't, at least it doesn't waste the devs' time.

I agree it would be nice as an alternate means of leveling a different job.

you guys realize "creating another character" means either spend extra money for level boost or over 100 hours of leveling and cutscenes? while im sure SE would love nothing more than us to spend more time and money int he game, i think SE should still give us a way to replay the story

I would like the option to replay some quest-lines too, but not if it's so difficult to implement that it impacts developing new content.

I would really like the option to replay the solo instances from the class and job quests and the MSQ.

I want to replay the Grand Melee. But thats a huge time dedication to want to replay a 5 minute instance once. It's not worth it to spend weeks of my life for the opportunity to relive my fight with Raubahn once.

It's such a shame though because Grand Melee was awesome, and I'd replay it a ton if I could just do it at a whim.

As I said before: Personally I'd like this to be extended to story-telling-quests like Hilli etc. aswell.
And to jobquests! I finished my darkknight yesterday, with a 2 year gap between the level 60 and the level 70 quest, and since there are refrences between the two of them, it would have been very nice to replay those 50-60 quests instead of digging out my screenshots.

And we all know that the storyquest has terrible lengths in between - specially the ARR-story wasnt that great...
The point isnt to do the story over, the point is to do specific quests again because of the story those quests are telling - may it be part of the mainstory, Hilli or a job-quest. I'd like them all.

Honestly I would like to be able to do the entire story over completely. Even if they only made certain storylines redoable I would be fine with that. The gated instances would be auto cleared or have an option to not auto clear them.

But most importantly I think the job quest need to be repeatable especially since there are 2+ year gaps in between them. Honestly I would like to do all the HW main story quests again without having to create a new character.

I would pay money for it.

Create new character, buy level boost, now you can do the story at your leisure without worrying about levels.

They have already said they can't reset individual quests due to how their flag system works, they can only reset the whole thing, resetting all flags, which I imagine would probably end up locking duties or zones in the process. At that point might as well just start a new character.

To do what you're asking they would have to completely redesign their quest and quest flag system.

I would be fine with something I'd call "memory-quests" - granted, I'm not sure how easy this would be to implement, but the idea would be that once you accept the quest, all NPCs that are needed for that are generated in the spot they need to be. Just as a memory-version - I'd be perfectly fine with a Memory-Lyse in rubysea while knowing that the real Lyse is standing around in Rhalgrs Reach.
I dont want them to reset the quests. I want them to give me an option to replay them.

I would love being able to totally reset MSQ and lock everything, then go through it all again on a different job. Yes, even the 2.xx filler content.

When asked about how resources are being reallocated following the reduction of number of dungeons per patch, Yoshida mentioned enriching the quality of main scenario battles. I liked the patch 4.1 msq battle, but it's a little bit odd for an mmo to focus a lot of resources on non-repeatable single-player battles. As much as I like the story, I kinda feel like it would be more beneficial for the health of the game if patches had no msq at all, instead focusing on increasing the amount of repeatable multiplayer content like PotD or putting full-party trials back into hildibrand questline. If the msq has to take a dominant slice of the budget then I agree that they should make that stuff repeatable. Wouldn't necessarily need a big system overhaul, they could just do more stuff like The Crysalis and The Steps of Faith instead of single-player battles that you only see once ever.

Steps of Faith? No...never another fight like this ever again. I'd much rather have Shinryu Ex as the 4.0 final boss with ilvl set at 310 than to have another Steps of Faith-like fight in MSQ.

They already have a repeatable system in-place, it's called levequest. Since MSQ is meant to be continuous story, I don't mind if Unending Journey bills me a leve allowance to repeat one.

I would welcome this. I would love to play some of the solo quests over again. I already have a second character and replaying all of those quests over again sucks the fun out of trying to replay a few short quests. I'm sorry but if they can take the time to make the new Bard music interaction then they could invest time in this.

I would love to be able to re-do all the story without starting a new character just because some of the scenes are different apparently if you have certain other quests completed(Coils being completed changes one scene near the end of HW I'm told). So would love that option to see all the alternate scenes.
