To those who have found their Significant Other in FF14...

How's that for a click-baity title? :)

Mind telling us how it happened? I confess to being wildly curious. I have seen and heard about friends and others getting involved online, but it has never happened to me despite all
the social activities I have had over quite a few MMOs.

People can theoretically meet anywhere, but it's really interesting to see how courtship and romance are handled in a virtual space such as an MMO.

Feel free to share (or not share, I don't wish to pry) your stories. I'm sure they will be interesting!

I didn't meet my significant other on ffxiv but I did meet her on ffxi. Been married 10 years now. Started as just friends but came to visit her and we hit it off. After a year of flying from new Hampshire to Ohio once a month decided to just move here, best decision of my life.

Wasn't FF, nor are we together anymore(was only a year long relationship as we were both young), but started as friends, hung out/ran content/called/texted with each other for a few months, then decided to give dating a try. I think it was the distance that killed it for us, since we were both young(under 18) when we started, and weren't able to visit each other at all. Though I do find myself wondering what she's up to these days as it was definitely one of the high points of that game for me.

We didn't meet ingame but she tried to get me into XI, I wasn't a fan.
I tried to get her into XIV 1.0. She wasn't a fan.

But here we are.

I met my boyfriend on FFXI I came to visit him for 2 months flew home, realized coming home was a mistake and 2 weeks later I was back with him for good ^^ we've been together irl for 7 years, knew each other through FFXI for an additional 5. We met in an exp party and then kept bumping into each other in town etc. and I ended up joining an LS I didn't know he was in. He kept bugging me for a picture of myself (even offered me a Krakken club for one lol) I refused for years, content just being chat buddies. Then he sent me a pic of himself, we started video skyping immediately, I was on a plane to see him within a year :p

"but why aren't you two married?" you may ask. Health Insurance BS and I'd rather not spend money on a wedding.

I feel like being 'anonymous online' allowed us to be more honest towards each other. When you don't think you'd actually ever meet them you kinda ditch the filters and let your true personality show lol

Didn't meet him in FFXIV but rather WoW, back in 2007. We roleplayed together occasionally - met IC for the first time at this silly little "in-character bank alt party" I hosted. Our characters got along better than us at first - not that we didn't get along. xD For a long time, I thought he was a girl, too! Over the course of 3+ years in WoW, we became fast friends both inside and outside the game. Eventually I flew out to what happened to be his state to check out a university for grad school there. We met up, and the rest is history. Married three years now!

I always feel so very lucky that we found each other. We share so many passions, likes, and dislikes, and my scientific training complements his creative writing and history mind very well.

I met my husband in XIV several years back.

It started out as sort of just talking in-game, but after a time we found ourselves talking outside of the game frequently.

We hopped on the 'long distance relationship via Skype' train and did that for about a year or so. After which Mr. Montblanc obtained a traveler's Visa to spend 90 days with me (we totally could have been on 90 Day Fiancee...). During that 90 days, we adopted a little kitten because apparently we needed a surrogate test child to make sure we were compatible. After about 60 or so days of Mr. Montblanc being in the United States, I recall walking into the bedroom and finding little Arkham (the kitten) with a ring on his collar. I said yes, but that sad part was that Mr. Montblanc would have to return to his homeland after the 90 days were up.

So we tearfully depart and spent another several months apart laboring over a seemingly endless steam of paperwork to get him legal residency in the United States. The process had us both under a lot of duress, but we pulled through and now Mr. Montblanc has his green card (yay) and we are married with even more cats and an additional dog (...yay).

People often try to say that online / long-distance relationships don't work. That may be true more often than not, but they definitely can work.

I met my now wife back when ARR launched. Happily married and playing Stormblood.

Didn't meet him in FFXIV, it happened in WoW. I was healing dungeons to level, he was tanking dungeons to level and the Dungeon Finder tool paired us multiple times. Turned out we were on the same realm so we added each other and started playing together and talked outside the game as well. A few years later we moved on from WoW to this game, although nowadays he doesn't play much. I've known him for 7 years now and we are happily living together in my country. :)

I met my partner a few months after heavensward. I was informed about a roleplay group (not erp) that wanted to do meet ups and play so i went. We both met in the small emcampment bit in central shroud not far from the entrance. We roleplayed a bit and seemed to click. We kept bumping into each other in illdylshire on the rock by the teleport (its a building now :( ) and talked offline aswell. We just had this bond it was weird and at the time i had just moved into a little house on my own and was suffering with depression from finacal struggles as well as being alone. it was nice having someone who i could skype chat with for hours. During one shift that was going bad i jokenly said. 'Urgh come rescue me' and his reaponce was 'sure give me a few weeks' about two months after that i was waiting for him at my local airport. First day was super awkward both of us scared we weird the other out we even kept joking. 'I bet you will black list me after this.' We stopped being shy nerds after a few days. We didnt offically hook up until a month after he went home. Been together ever since. Married in game 28/11/15 two year aniversary in october.

Its part of why i will always love this game. I found my soul mate in it. We even said if we get married how we would put little nods to final in it. And to have the honeymoon in japan so we can go to the eorzea cafe.

I didn't meet my husband in an MMO, but I did meet him online -- on IRC -- a type of text-based chat LONG before the days of AOL messenger and such. He is from Germany and was learning English on his own, and I was interested in meeting people from other countries and helping them have a language practice buddy. We were pen-pals when I was in high school, and we'd send each other letters, photos, CDs (so you know how long ago this was!), postcards and such.

When we finally got to meet in person when I started college, it was love at first sight! We have been married 14 years this June.

Not FFXIV, but we did meet on a game roughly 17 years ago. We have been married just over 16 years and our daughter will be turning 15 this Sunday. :)

My husband and I met on WoW just over ten years ago. I was almost exclusively a solo player at the time and was just out leveling my hunter in Blades Edge Mountains. I was having trouble with a quest to sneak past some elite ogres. He happened to playing his paladin in the same area and doing the same quest. We bumped into each other and he offered to group up so I joined him and we finished it together (turns out you needed to lure the elites away with beer.) After we finished we were saying our goodbyes when it just popped into my head to ask him if he had visited Evergrove yet (the next quest hub in the zone.) He said no and I offered to show him the way. The rest is history. ^_^

Though god, the first time I went to visit him irl, you should have seen the look on my mom's face when I told her I was flying to Brazil to meet up with a guy I met on line... :rolleyes:

I met my wifey outside of FFXIV but she got me into it. It is now one of our primary ways to interact with eachother since we are physically separated by both by distance and money. But we got married in FFXIV and spend a lot of time together in it, including dates ranging from dungeon running as Healer and Tank to just...walking through the world together and heck we even have a house together. That works for us! :) I know that sounds a little sad in the grand scheme of things but we're happy with it for now.

Met my fiance in 2014, he was FC lead at the time, and I'd joined a random FC that recruited me back in April. I ended up going on voice comms in May, as they were advertising it, went on everyday and sometime in August, he confessed his attraction to me, and so we kicked it off.

We're due to have our third anniversary at the end of the month.

I met my boyfriend on TERA in 2013, and we moved over to FFXIV a couple months after that.

We were in the same guild, and both started using the guild's voice chat around the same time. Everything progressed naturally from there, in the same way it would if you made a group of friends you hung out with daily and started having mutual feelings for one of them. He was in the state right below mine, so my mom decided to take me down to spend Christmas with him that year; took me completely by surprise, neither of us had even considered meeting yet. Moved in with him 6mo later, been together ever since. ♥

We ended up doing the long distance thing for about a year, and then Nov 2014 he asked me to come and visit him - well things went so well that I never went home! :) Now we're due to be married after I graduate (long story short, but having a green card makes things like name changes a real PITA lol), but it's coolbeans!
My life is infinitely better for having him in it ;)

My bf and I met on a game called Phantasy Star Universe back in fall 2006. We started dating in June of 2008. We celebrated 9 years together on June 22nd 2017.

Soothes my heart to see just how one can find their true love, transcending all that real life society taught upon us. If anything, your stories has helped us believe in the dream that MMORPGs can indeed pave its way for the best love stories everyone else can only dream of. :)

I met my beautiful significant other, not in a game, but in kindergarden. I have now known her 17 years, before she was my bestfriend, the first person to actually ever notice me that i existed, since i was a pushed away child, like so many out there. And now after all this time shes my best friend, my wife and my beating heart, i would not be the man today if not for her. We play ff xiv together for 4 years now and our chars love eachother like we love us. I am happy for does that found their love for their life and i hope for does who still seek it that they will find it.

A friend introduced us. She pulled me into a T9 run that she wanted to do undersized with myself, her, her girlfriend, another friend of hers, and my now boyfriend. It ended as terribly as you would expect. They left they group and him and I just stood together talking. We talked for like hours until he noticed the time and told me he had to head off to bed for work. We added each other as friends and went along our merry ways. Our friend kept dragging us in to stuff and we would end up talking for hours after. Now I'll admit that at first I thought he was a woman. I've got this thing where I'll assume the person behind the character is the same gender as their character until they tell me otherwise. He mentions he's a male and I realized I'm a goof and should have known from the start. At that point though I already kinda had a crush on him.
I left the game for about a month though due to some frustrations with things in game. I came back and ran into him in Gridania but I didn't realize it was him at first since he had a different name and was a catgirl. When I met him he was playing a FemRoe and I absolutely loved the way she looked because she was so pretty! I'm possibly very, very biased though. I convinced him to go back to his old name and he went FemRoe again too for me. We spent loads of time together and even exchanged Skype info so we could talk outside the game and through voice.
One night him and I are drinking and shooting the crap together when I just suddenly say to him "You're my boyfriend now!" Wasn't me asking, it was me telling him that he was mine now and I was his. He replies with "Okay!" and I'm just as happy as a clam. The next day he asked if I was serious and I said yes.
We've been together for a year and a half now and I don't think I've ever been this happy in my life. I love him so damn much that it honestly scares me sometimes.

I did meet a lot of nice people in FFXIV though, whom I've met in RL now as well. In fact, heading to Sweden soon to visit 2 of them for the 2nd time.

I know there is a chance I can find myself a girlfriend online...though it's not easy when I'm an introverted introvert. Also, contrary to my character, I am in fact male.

we were in the same fc, until his raid group stole our tank so my group fell apart. then 2.1 was released and i spent my entire christmas forming titan x groups while sexually harassing him in game and skype, he would never respond to me unless i told him it was a solid group. eventually he caved to the sexual harassment and we started bonding etc etc and now we live together with our very own lala

I met her at the launch of ARR, in fact I first met her in the original Scions base of operations. Her character was a Lalafell, my character was a Lalafell, it was love at first sight! She's been with me every step up the way from Eorzea to Kugane! Dont tell Wedge though, he has no idea I stole Tataru from him! ;)

We met way back during ARR and were in the same FC, though didn't talk much at first. He was usually around his raidbuddies/long time gaming friends and I was getting bored as a bunch of my friends just quit. So for some quiet evenings I was just logging in, sat in front of our FC house and continued surfing the internet. Then he noticed me and started to chat with me. I'm somewhat socially awkward when I just met someone, so I was really stressed out to talk to him but didn't want to appear to be rude. Long story short, after a few more evenings of me sitting in front of the house and him talking to me, we became best friends. I even helped him naming his puppy. :)

Soon it became clear there was more between us, hence why I had to cut the contact to him as I was still with my exboyfriend. I felt sad but at the time it was the right decision. Coming up to the beginning of the year 2016, my ex and I turned out to be not so good together and I broke it off. Fast forward to a few months of being single and a mutual friend, whom I know since my glory FFXI days, invited me via Facebook to her birthday-party. I was hoping she would've invited my boyfriend aswell, but she didn't. But it gave me the courage to add him on Facebook again to reconnect and see how he is doing. Long story short, the feelings were still there after talking for a few days and we decided to finally meet up irl. Fun Fact: We not only did end up on the same server and the same FC, but we also live really close together irl. What are the chances. :) Turned out he has been waiting for me for the past 2 years as he couldn't get me out of his head and now we are happily sitting next to each other and play together. And his puppy absolutly adores me. Thank you FFXIV!
