Black Mage Raise Ability

I know Yoshida said he wouldn't give black mages a raise ability because it doesn't make sense lore wise, but I disagree. I think it would make perfect sense to have a raise ability centered in black magic. Lore wise perhaps it could have something to do with void magic or necromancy? I mean, if black mages created life via golems, why not be able to restore it to those who already had it? Besides, black mage is a job I truly love. But, it has literally no utility, which is a deal breaker in most statics. I mean, it has a tiny bit via role abilities, but rdm and smn can get those abilities too on top of having DPS buffs and a raise. Black mage will have a very hard time being a job people will want in statics as long as we have no utility. I would seriously ask the development team to reconsider adding a raise ability to help even it out with red mage and summoner.

I wouldn't mind it. The casters are the least homogenised role anyway, each one is strongly set in a unique gimmick that makes them play nothing alike, so adding res to the only one that doesn't res wouldn't do anything to hurt the uniqueness of each job. For utility, rdm still has a cure and embolden buff to offset whatever personal dps loss it has compared to blm.

Could Always raise them as a zombie. Sounds like black magic to me.

That would be too OP. Infinite MP = Infinite Rez. Would have to be on a long CD.

Only usable in astral fire, costs a lot of MP. So then while you can't get past the infinite MP issue (and tbh you're never going to get past that on blm), it's a dps loss.

No, just no. RDM and SMN already get enough crap from lazy healers, we don't need BLM carrying them too.

If I absolutely had to give BLMs some means of raising people, I would let them toss swiftcast "charges" of some kind to allied casters, allowing, THEM to cast spells instantly and maybe even for free.

However, if I were to give BLMs more raid utility it would probably take the form of dmg down/vuln up debuffs they place on their targets, and I don't think they really need more raid utility to start with. I just want to see umbral hearts become more important.

BLM never had raise in any FF so, no. Raise just isn't black magic. If you use black magic to attempt a raise it justs do some random bullshits. Black magic is the magic of destruction.

Please stop trying to get BLM a raise. The job is literally fine the way it is.

Agree, in all FF games u never get raise from black magic. You are saying it is a deal breaker to not having utility? Square Enix designed black mage to not have utility and bring only damage, that is the flair of the class at least thats the reason square enix want people to pick black mage over other classes.
Current reason why BLM is not favoured because there can be only 1 pure dps spot, either samurai or BLM. The obvious pick is samurai since physical classes buff are better synergized comparing to caster buffs available. If anything i'd suggest SMN devotion as party wide magic buff and RDM embolden be buff to include magic damage and we perhaps can start to see reason to have caster heavy composition rather than physical composition, that is the current meta. It might be interesting to have double caster meta again

You entirely missed the point why top group savage racing dont bring BLM.

if you to give blm utility, give it more damage, cause casters have less magical buffs...

Black Mage does not need a Raise. Full stop. If you know what you're doing BLM has no problem in raids whatsoever and our AoE for dungeons is incredible. If statics are turning BLMs away then that's their problem and not the job tbh.

I'll never understand this argument. Black Mages have never been able to res, that's always been white magic. On top of that people are saying things like "it makes sense for black magic". No. It doesn't. Final Fantasy black magic is about dealing direct damage with powerful spells, resurrection does not fit that at all. Final fantasy black magic isn't the same as "black magic" in other fantasy games which include things like necromancy.

This idea really needs to be put to bed. Its not a good idea. and even if yoshiP got drunk on Soju or Sake one night and decided to make it happen.. at what point would you put it into your rotation? no black mage with self respect would risk losing astral or umbral for the time it takes to cast. Anyone who plays blm to a slightly high level, will agree that movement hurts dps, and you want to always be casting to ensure high numbers.. you dont want to interrupt your rotation to res someone. even if you have swiftcast/triple cast at your disposal. Your job is to make things go boom.

Even as a summoner now, i would refrain from using res as they are now more ruin dependent than before. Back in 3.x res on summoner was okay.. you got 3 dots ticking + garuda and ruin 1 sucked. They could afford to hardcast/swiftcast res.. now its different. The only caster class that can do it halfway effectively is RDM, and lorewise. that fits.

Black Magic is the magic of destruction. A Black Mage trying to resurrect using black magic would likely make the person even more dead as there wouldnt be a corpse anymore (or in much smaller pieces)

Please no, if you want Blm to have more utility give us a magic debuff or buff to increase magic damage on a target. Makes much more sense, gameplay and lore wise.

Actually there is magical damage buff called summoners contagion. It have 10% magical vulne with 25% uptime. Only physical damage buffs are brotherhood 5% with 16.6% uptime and embolden is average 6% physical damage buff with 16.6% uptime. Other buffs are buffs for everyone(if slashing/piercing not count). Contagion is stronger magical damage buff (for one person) than embolden and brotherhood combined. Only problem is we have 1 caster meta so black mages are not gonna see contagion very often on the boss.

hmmm "Rising dead" allows the rasing of another player inflicted Zombie and weakness for 60 sec, consumes all MP (min 2000 at 70)

Was it Yoshida that said he didn't want the jobs all matchy matchy? I think we should just stick with that. If you want to rez so bad there are three healers and two dps to choose from.

We have multiple jobs that can raise already also, blm is destruction not life giving, haha

how often do smb actually use garuda anymore? piercing and slashing are physically...., emolden and mnks buff can get combined...

casters get buffed way less and only if a smn is in the group and if the smn uses garuda and not ifrit..

I use garuda if i team with another caster and ifrit if I m solo caster, that is pretty logical.

All summon damage was changed to magic damage some time ago. So majority of summoners are using Garuda. Ifrit is only used on pull to give his party buff. Contagion is one of the most important parts of a summoners kit. So most raiding summoners would still be using it

1 Caster Meta will always be a thing even if the best comp were to have a rdm, smn, and blm on the same group. As long as gear is shared by them you'll never see more than 1 caster per group, it would take too long to gear up.

That would be Necromancer territory, if we ever get one. Black Magic in FF is all about destruction and killing the enemy with as big fireball (or whatever the enemy happens to be weak to) as possible with the occasional sleep and blind thrown in, and has nothing to do with what you'd normally consider dark arts or magic, like raising the dead or curses.

blm bring the dead back as zombies xD...


with A) either a higher vun debuff, but more attack potency..

or B) the other way around (lower vun debuff, taking less damage, but a lowered attack potency)

making it RNG which A or B zombie mode you get after the blm rez

People talking about magic debuffs kinda forgeting that not one brings more than single caster per raid raid now. Why would they, it just makes gearing much harder with zero benefits.
In current raid setpus both ninja and bard have guarantee raid spot period, then you usually single spot for caster and single for another melee. Then the question is why realistically would you prefer blm over rdm, when the last synergies with entire dps team and brings insta res as absolute top level utility. Blm deals slightly more damage, yeah sure, look at all these people who care.

yes.., thats why blm (and smn) stil need a slight potency buff...
(blm no utility but overall still behind sam and mnk, instead if being on par with sam)

or give blm a magical debuff/buff (like t3 dots give a magic vulnerability), .. to allow a possible meta with 3 (or 2) casters in it... , besides the usual melee/physical meta

Give blm raise and nerf their damage by 10% and you can know how summoner feel right now. Make it cost all mana and remove stacks as well so you need wait mana tick every time you raise. Deal?

feel summoners..., they stil feel broken, don't great damage.. and the buffs the least usef/wanted....

why do I do more damage when I each time (not only the opener) do ED/F/PF, to get DT up fast, instead of F/F/F (or F/ED/F or .... ) with a smn??

Anytime a party member dies, BLM spells cost 10% less & casting speed increased by 15% for 10 seconds.

Giving BLM raise doesn't make sense.

I would even want that spell cost and cast speed to be more dramatic but idk by how much.

When a party member dies, the Black Mage gains Wrath Of The Sorceror buff. Their eyes glow with fire or lightning, and they call out a spell incantation and the desire for revenge takes over.

These specific in this scenario buffs could be applied to each job, special iconic circumstances that cannot be granted unless example A happens.

if Blm in its current state would get a res even rdm would be losing its raid spot. not to mention that smn would move down even further in grp comps - if its possible at all. Blms can out dps Sams atm - why should they give them utilities?...

Except thats not how RDM works. They have insta res for free, its not counted into their mobility, dps or raid buffs. Why should it be penalized on blm or summoner then? Free battle res for everyone!
But honestly they should just exclude battle res from rdm insta cast list. Being hard casted or casted via swiftcast is already good enough utility. I have feeling that's what they will do in 4.1.

Honestly, if people are dropping left and right that it would outright require every caster to need a rez to be relevant, there's a problem with the group.

Before you know it, PLD will be begging for a rez skill as well.

The problem is you may have 2-3 dead bodies per fight with rdm as a caster and clear the boss if raid dps is high enough to cover 25% damage loss. Any other caster than rdm will result in wipe probably. And there's no way around it as it is now. Its just too damn good to not have.
