Lackluster yellow strip gear

Is anyone else a little disappointed with the yellow strip gear? I don't have a level 70 crafted set because my ironworks is penta-melded. That was disappointing in itself but maybe I can understand. Now I look at this new gear and I'll be keeping some of my ironworks. How is it that a gear piece 110 ilvls above my old set is worse in some ways? It's a 110 ilvls! To have +8 on 190 gear and then see +11 on this piece that 110 ilvls above is just ... weird.

I know. I know. I should be happy that I don't need to put in the time but I like the sense of accomplishment I get when I gear them. Is this how it was in the beginning of HW? I started playing in the last couple months of ARR and finished leveling my DoH/DoL after HW was out so I didn't really experience endgame gathering.

Or did I not find the correct starter 70 gatherer gear?

Yeah, this is pretty much how HW went. Initial scrip gear was similar stats to the crafted gear with 2-3 melds. I kept my ARR accessories for at least 6 months into HW

Even without overmelding the crafted stuff still wins. Only exception to that is the main hand, which is probably worth it if you don't want to spend gil overmelding a bunch of T5s.

The scrip gear has always been suboptimal to crafted version that can be melded/overmelded.

It wouldn't surprise me if 4.05 will include the next set of master books, which will include the 1-star DoW/M gear, as well as crafted versions of the DoH/L yellow scrip sets.

Strip gear doesn't need to look good as you're going to take it all off anyway.

EDIT: oh, wait...

What did you expect? If they put materia slots on it crafted gear would be worthless...this is the cheap option. The MH tools are probably worth it since GP is not as useful as CP is to crafters...the legs are somewhat interesting too.

Yes, I know that. But I didn't think crafted gear from an earlier expac to be better then endgame scrip gear. xP Especially when it's more than 100 ilvls above that. The ilvl is basically useless. The difference between NQ and HQ ironworks is greater than HQ ironworks and yellow scrip gear. It's basically i195 with no materia slots.

This isn't what I meant. I'm not talking materia slots. I'm talking about how the ilvl 190 HQ ironwork set is as good or better (with pentamelding) than the ilvl 300 yellow scrip set. Starter lvl 70 gear shouldn't be worse than endgame lvl 60 gear. It just shouldn't. xP

It's not? I see nothing wrong with it...the true starter gear (HQ white crafted) melded trumps uber melded IW. Scrip gear is not even starter gear...it's glamour gear with stats for the casual crafter.

Don't see the point of the scrip gear if it's not bis. You have to craft/gather a ton to get the scrips in the first place. Right now it's pretty easy to HQ every at 70 there's no challenge. Any casual can easily get the 60 red scrip accessories and augment them. A couple cheap melds and CP food from kugane and you can 100% HQ everything no problem. Entry level crafting at 70 is eaiser than either previous level cap.

There's going to be far more effort put in to get the yellow scrip with it's cost. If it's meant to be glamour then remove the stats so there's no illusion.

Except you can't meld materia onto the lvl 60 augmented red scrips gear. And again, of course it's easy to HQ the few 1-star recipes we have. HW 1-star recipes weren't hard to HQ either.

It's silly to compare the current situation with the one in HW, since HW introduced the lvl 60 white set and the crafted AF set right away. We don't have the crafted version of the AF set (yet).

I'm a casual crafter/gatherer and in no way is yellowscripts more casual. We need pretty darn good stats to be efficient at doing yellowscripts, which you don't need if you already have those good stats. I'm having an easier time just gathering the crafted gear items.

This matters how? It's pretty easy to HQ the 70 stuff. The new skills and specialist give such major boosts. And there's already macros ready for the 1*. There is new gear added when the 2/3* stuff is added to allow you to craft it all. It's like you forgot a ladder is provided to climb with no effort.

You have no idea what is casual atm. Grinding crafting scrips is not casual in anyway. That's a ton of time and effort for "casual" stats. The prices are pretty damn high for casual as well. If they were like 500 for a mainhand but 1300? And you get like 19 per turn in on ALC with an infusion pot. Full set is 3700 scrip. 195 turn ins. Not casual.

Also try looking at the market prices. You'd be throwing money out the window if you crafted for yellow scrips vs just buying the HQ gear and some materia.

And this was the case in HW as well. It was easier to get the lvl 60 set, compared to the i180 red scrips set. Red scrips had a weekly cap, so it took 2 weeks worth of red scrips (900) to obtain 1 chestpiece.
Also to note, the yellow scrips chestpiece has the exact same cost, 900 scrips.

How is this different from HW? It was just as easy to craft the lvl 60 stuff/1-star stuff back then.
And you're the one that seems to be forgetful here. We likely won't be getting a new crafting set for 2-star crafts, just like we didn't get the Ironworks set until after the first set of 3-star recipes were introduced.

How exactly are the prices "pretty damn high" when they use the exact same prices as the i180 red scrips gear, back when that was first released? And pots have always been lower on the amount of scrips obtained, since they require a lower amount of mats. Stuff like the Zelkova Fishing Rod (56-67 scrips), Twinsilk Slops of Casting (74-88 scrips) and Palladium Choker of Healing (46-55 scrips) can be turned in for more scrips.

Of course the prices of materials are high at the start of the expansion, but these gear sets will be around for at least another 6 months.

Script gear should be BiS.

You cannot argue that it is for glamour when you can't distinguish glamours based on job. By that I mean, that you can't have one gear set with several different glamours that change based on job. And hardly anyone has just ONE gather. We all have 2 or all three.

btw we are here in the disciple of LAND board, not HAND.

there are no turn-ins for pots or whatever, only gathered stuff wich takes forever to get enough collectables to buy all the gear.

back in 3.0 i had the lvl 50, ilvl 60 craftet gearset for my gatherer and i replaced it by the lvl 55 NQ set because it actually was better. i had a crafted white lvl 60 set and i replaced it with the ilvl 180 red scrip set, because it may not be 100% better than a penta melded crafted set, but it was really good (i think only the GP higher with the crafted set).

Except this isn't true. It will cost you substantially more getting Yellow Scrips than if you crafted the 290 set, and it takes just two grade IV materia to surpass all but the body. There is literally no value in Yellow scrips gear except for glamour.

The fact that yellow scrips aren't gated weekly should be a big enough hint that this isn't going to be your 4.0 'bestest specialist' gear.

So I feel this needs to be clarified.

This is so far the exact pattern we've seen in Heavensward when they first introduced this system. Given that they don't have to play the 'data analysis' game this time around, this likely means new recipes, new materials, and actual -gated scrips- in the Savage patch.

It is more than likely those -gated scrips- will be where your notable set upgrades will come from.

The -yellow- scrips are mean t to serve as a non-optimal but affordable baseline.

Scrip gear is not and never was meant to be top-of-the-line.

It is, and has been since the introduction of red and blue scrips, intended as a means by which a casual player can gear their crafters.

That it is far out of whack cost-wise with the crafted set is immaterial. That it is not a gated currency is also immaterial. It was not and never has been meant for the people who would get everything done in a day.

It is meant for the people who would turn in a few Collectibles a day, and slowly build up to it, because that's all their playtime allows.

TLDR: Get the weapon, pentameld the crafted set.

Varies by server, I imagine. I'll use Gilgamesh's market as an example then, with Goldsmith.
Left side cost: Approximately 1.2 million
Main Hand: 50k. (This is so negligible that you can argue to use this over the scrip just on cost alone, so you're right on this one)
Rightside: (We can skip this as it's fairly comparable to Ironworks and no scrip accessories are available yet)

Right now I have a starred craft (Imperial Jade Necklace) for 67 scrips. I need 3700. I will need to craft 56 of these. If I ignore the weapon, I only need 2400 (35)
Imperial Jade necklace is : 2 Imperial Jade, 1 twinthread, 1 Almandine, 1 Resil (attribute)

For the sake of the argument, I will use completed components only instead of the much more efficient baseline material / crafting.

Gilgamesh's current prices on these are
Imperial Jade: 13,000 (Need 112 or 70)
Twinthread: 9000 (Need 56 or 35
Almandine: 3,800 (Need 56 or 35)
Resil: 3000 for the most expensive. (Need 56 or 35)

Price with weapon: 1,456,000 (jade) + 504,000 (Twinthread) + 212,800(Almandine) + 178,000 (resil) or about 2.4 Million.
Price without weapon: 1,500,000

It's not looking good for the scrip set, certainly, but it's worth noting that Weapons have much higher stat caps than the armor, so even if you go 2.4 million in for a full set including the weapon from scrips, materia prices to get the crafted weapon (50k) up to snuff is going to be steep.

Scrip weapon: 433 / 232
Crafted weapon: 405 /217

To match the stats of the scrip weapon you need 28 craft, 15 control

Scrip chest: 371/116/4
crafted chest: 348/109/4

For the chest, you need 23 / 7 (Much less steep, certainly)

Forgive me for not doing all of them, but I don't have that kind of patience

So, weapon has one guaranteed slot. Depending how deep you want to go into the rabbit hole here, but for the sake of cost efficiency, we'll only use 5's.

Craft 5s (+11): 70k
Command 5s (+7): 90k

To match the scrip weapon, pentamelding with these sill be 3 Craft 5s, 2 Command 5s. On average, that's going to be 1 Command (90k) for green slot, 4 Command (360k) for the second slot, 7 Craft (490k) for the 3rd slot, 9 Craft (630k) for the fourth slot, and 12 Craft4 (48k) for the last.

Let's not even get into using rank 6 to make them 'better' instead of on par.

So that sucks, let's look at the chestpiece (Two green slots at least on this one!)

You can easily catch up with the chest with two Craft 5s and a command 5. So 1 COmmand 5 (90k), 1 Craft 5( 70k) and on average 3 Craft 5s (210k). 370k on top of the money you already spent to buy this.

Every other piece is a little cheaper, but you're still using a minimum of 1 Command 5 and 1 Craft 5 on each piece (160k) on top of the craft.

So 2.4million for a full left side for one craft vs ^^^^ that time, and then the weapon for every craft.

Short story: Get the weapon, pentameld the white set.
Edit: I amended the weapon melding to include Craft 4s at the end since it technically hits '28' to break even.

I'm wondering why you wouldn't at least meld the 2 free slots into the gear by deault. 70HQ is easy to make and with just the 2 free meld slots using V's, which are easy to obtain now, you outdo the yellow scrip gear.

So yeah good job I'm still correct. 70HQ is eaiser to craft, eaiser to obtain and even "factoring in materia" it's better without needing to overmeld.

And going by your previous post with the math you kindly did, the yellow scrip gear is far more time consuming and expensive to obtain for lower stats. Point still stands. Yellow scrip gear is not for casuals. It's under powered, overpriced and requires far more time/money to obtain. It needs to be reduced in cost if its' meant for casual crafters or stats boosted or stats removed if it's just glamour.

As Roth pointed out, the yello scrip gear is for a different player (The single / maybe up to three crafts kind of player), not the omnicrafter. The omnicrafter gets the most benefit of a penta melded set (8 crafts for one) and only has to deal with the headache of melding weapons, or simply doing scrips (Which are more than comparable to the cost.

It's also worth noting the presented scrip cost I used is like, the worst way to do it. (Buying components instead of making it yourself)

It would take me a couple hours, but the gil cost for the 3700 yellow scrips for me would be closer to around 100 - 150k.

I don't recall having to pay anything, besides gear repair, for yellow gatherers' scrip gear. Am I still in the disciple of land forums?

I should just get the MH from the yellow scripts, and then I should just cap yellow scripts for when they're needed for something useful in a later patch?

I'm still working on getting my crafters up to 70 (making everything in Crafting Log, not attempting to fly through to 70 with almost nothing made, did that with HW not going to do it again) but my plan, once I'm there, is to craft the white gear for my gathering classes, and then to focus on getting the yellow scrip gear for my retainers.

But, yea. Meld the white gear so it is better than the yellow scrip gear, then just focus on getting/holding yellow scrip for whatever may come in the future. Unmelted white gear is not as good as the scrip gear, so unless you want to waste a bunch of materia on retainers I'd relegate the scrip gear for them and them alone.

That is what I personally recommend, yes. There is nothing wrong with getting a full set of the scrip gear it will serve you just fine for just about any of the current gathering - but if you want to have more flexibility in what you can obtain(like the ability to get HQ from legendary nodes) I would get MH's only with scrips.

So quick question... Would full yellow 'Augmented' scrip gather gear be BIS once they release the ability to augment? I'm wondering if I should even waste my time trying to gather the massive amounts of yellow script to purchase all of the scrip gear in preparations for it.

I just wish that the scrip gear would be all class. I don't mind the grind to save some money but I simply don't have the armoury space to accommodate three full sets of gathering gear. If they wanted it for glamour, they could keep all three sets and just set them to be usable by all DoL. Until then, crafted and melded is the way to go.

The scrip gear was never BiS in HW either. You could meld the other crafted gear and outdo the stats. If you only looked at ilevels (which has little meaning outside of melding caps) scrip gear had a higher ilevel. It doesn't matter if you had to have a certain amount of gathering or perception to get to nodes.

Scrip gear are for those that don't want to do melds and get what they need in terms of gathering or crafting. Usually it meant those that weren't omni crafters.

Similar system existed end game of ARR too. You had crafted sets and sets you could get from the vendor. The crafted set was always better due to melding min/maxing

This is the position than I'm in, I don't have any crafting class up to 70 yet so I can't even do any melds even if I were to buy the HQ white gear, so I've stuck with augmented minekeepers, then I'll upgrade that to yellow script gear, it doesn't bother me, as soon as I start making some more gil to afford to level up my weaver, I'll stick to the vendor script gear :)
