[dev1207] Recipes for Gear Dyeing
Oh, wow. That's a big list.
Hello colors.
We only get uncolored and red Cobalt Haubergeons? :(
/sigh
Little disappointed that some gear doesn't gain ANY additional colors. Nice additions overall, though.
And no pink...
I know some people are going to be disappointed.
Well they did say they won't be able to add all the colors till much later on..
BUT a lot of the weaving crafts have multiple colors now. all the robes, bliauds, and what not have 4 colors instead of 2/1.
EDIT: I'm just glad they got rid of that god awful system that we have now. Everyone looks the same, come 1.20 everyone will atleast look different.
Well, failing is this dev team speciality...so just one more to the list.
I guess they thought "Who care about dyeing! They will only use achievement items during 1.20 and only AF past 1.21..." -_-
Also the new names were so...*shrugs*...yu-gi-ohish >_< now need colors and augumented effects to be added to them too so we can have a "Herculean Red Raptorskin Harness of Epeeness"!
where's my black cobalt sets? :(
nice change btw.
I understand why they don't want to allow any color for any armor, but please, splurge a little and allow cobalt armor in a couple more colors. Please!
And because I couldn't remember what had been said about dyeing HQ and materia-melded gear:
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...l=1#post448888
Ok, no new colors we get it.
But is it too hard to make the Cobalt Plate Belt dyeable?? Geez it seems like they enjoy doing something without any sense every now and then just for the sake of it.
Also, the overall system seems really confusing, basically we are gonna have base gear + dyes + HQ + different upgrades+ HQ + dyes + materia...
@_@
I honestly don't understand why they added different upgrades to begin with, since that's basically what the materia system already does, I just find it really unnecessary and confusing for new players. It could be understendable when they wanted to link different colors to different version of the same gear, but since that idea got scrapped they could also get rid of the upgrades.
You have a better idea to diffrenciate stats on a gear with that many color? blame people that whined about current dying system, which differenciates stats by colors.
They probably has reason that most belts doesn't have colors and would like to keep that consistent.
What's up with the Cobalt Plate Belt not being able to be BLUE or RED? I feel so tacky not being able to match perfectly. I was hoping that it would be fixed by the 1.20 patch.
this is rather... underwhelming to say the least.
I was under the impressions that the new dye system would allow for more liberal use of existing dyes than this.
Actually I thought he said you could dye all armors any color that that were dyes in the game since they were removing the color code from the armor and making it's own deal.
Cobalt plated belt >>>>> STILL NO COLORS
Green Cobalt Vambraces >>>>>> No other cobalt is green.
According to the list:
ARM only gets 8 new synths, just blue and green pieces.
Weaver gets 80+ new ones.
Very half-assed.
Also...still gotta match a blue Raptorskin Harness with a black Raptorskin subligar...
Other than that, I'm happy with the changes.
Edit: Actually I was mistaken. It's actually funnier this way though. Raptorskin subligar only comes in black, but Raptorskin Harness can now be Red or White in addition to Blue. So new colors, but still no black to match its respective leg piece.
Thanks SE for the colored etc recipes. Now please followup with the recipe revamps for GSM, CUL and ALC.
Come on guys, Yoshi-P already stated they need to rework the item colouring entirely to allow any piece of gear to have all colours. This will be done for 2.0 (or earlier?), right now is a temporary change to allow us to have some colour variety. Stop crying on the colours missing and enjoy what we have for until the new colouring system is completed.
I, too, would really enjoy to pick any colour for any piece of gear, but this is temporary, no sweat be patient. :D
There is something to be said about doing things correctly the first time.
They have completely missed the point and way overcomplicated a simple change.
First of all, there is no need for any gear with any single stat boost like MND, VIT, PIE etc,, since they should me customizable with materia.
Secondly, they should just make all gear dyeable any color. If they really wanted to be competitive as a viable MMO, then they need only look as far as RIFT where you can dye anything any color.
Someone should have looked at that list and stopped its release and implementation.
I understand why they did it, but they blew it. Speculation about what the final product is pointless, all we have now is what they say and its too convoluted as described in [dev1207]. Where have they said that it's temporary?
Convoluted or not, this is at best a stopgap measure until they can implement the Color ID system for 2.0.
Right now the problem is that color is tied with item model, so that in order for them to add new colors they need to create entirely new models, and this adds up quick and starts raising memory issues. In order to make gear dyed with any color like they want, they need to separate color from item model so that color can be swapped out easily, without needing an entirely new model for each individual color.
The Color ID system that they have planned for 2.0 will do just that, and Yoshi has stated that items will have between 24 and 32 dye colors each, a vast improvement over the current situation.
Well, I am kind of disappointed, I was looking forward to making a purple Cobalt set and I would have liked some pink colour, but overall I am happy with this list as a start, as pointed out: it is a large list.
Keep up the good work guys :).
aww me too very disappointed that I can't make black Cobalt set.
The black with gold lines must be nice :(
Well if everything have full range of color probably create lots troubles to server...
but but but it will be shinny
I can understand why we still have limited colors for the time being, but one thing still doesn't sit well with me.
The overall process to make a stat-specific, dyed piece of gear is way to long. Why do I have to do 3 synths to create only 1 item? Isn't this why parts were being removed from crafting in the first place? The dyeing part I guess I can understand, but why do we need to do 2 separate synths to make 1 stat-specific piece?
Instead of...
Fingerless Raptorskin Gloves
Raptor Leather
Raptor Leather
Boar Leather
Cobalt Rivets
Earth Crystal x1
Wind Shard x4
then
Fingerless Raptorskin Gloves of Slaying
Fingerless Raptorskin Gloves
Raptor Leather
Fire Shard x12
Why not just make it 1 synth...
Fingerless Raptorskin Gloves of Slaying
Raptor Leather
Raptor Leather
Raptor Leather
Boar Leather
Cobalt Rivets
Earth Crystal x1
Wind Shard x4
Fire Shard x12
Yea, the crystals/shards could use some adjustment, but still..
Hell, I don't even understand why one piece of gear can have multiple different stats. It just seems like a band-aid fix to "give us more variety." I understand that the dev team has much more important things to work on besides dyeing and such. I just hope that this multiple stat per gear thing is just temporary until we get some real variety.
I find the way they naming item is too long.. Boarskin Culottes of Intelligence (Black) , Felt Halfgloves of Dexterity (Green)
Velveteen Sarouel of Toiling (Yellow).
They should make the name shorter, or just cut of the name from boost status part and let players look status from market search.
Cool, now we can pretend we're playing diablo.
No Cobalt Cuirass of the whale Intelligence Piety (green) (black) and a little bit of (pink). SE killing my dreams. ;)
I'm really dissapointed by the lack of more colors. the previous annoucement on this made it sound like we would be able to dye stuff any color that was available in a dye.
I want purple armor damnit!
Didn't this whole request start because people wanted +4 attack power on their Cobalt Cuirass without it being red? Because it seems that now nobody gets +4 attack power (so you may as well use whatever color you want!).
No black themed cobalt armor for me. /sadface
Ohh well, the original look still looks pretty awesome.
Wow, who pissed in your corn flakes this morning? If you hate the dev team so much you should really just quit torturing yourself and leave.
Personally, these are fantastic changes since they remove the bullshit of colors = stats. Oh no god forbid we don't get everything in 32 colors immediately. New colors are slowly being added though I doubt you'll be around to see them.
While the names may be a little cliché but they're pretty traditional as far as RPGs in general go. They needed a way to differentiate the items and this is the way they chose. I've seen other games do it a lot worse.
I think they're missing the big picture.
Sometimes there needs to be a logical person that says: "We will not be implementing colors for all gear until 2.0 because colors are lnked to the item name and that cannot be changed until 2.0"
I hate to say it, but it's a management or leadership problem. This should have been stopped.
Couldn't they have made color be applied just like materia? They could have made an NPC manage the dyeing, even if it required a crafter with high enough skill to provide the mats.
If the color changes for 1.20 are temporary, why bother making the change at all?
Even if it is temporary and they are planning future changes that will allow all gear to be dyed, doesn't that implicitly mean that they will have to delete or change the temporary gear?
I think you're the one missing the bigger picture actually. Without the Color ID system, the game treats two of the same item in different colors as completely different items. This will change eventually with the color ID system which stores the color data separately from the item itself. With the color ID system your NPC dying system could be feasible but until then neither are possible.
I'll wait as long as it takes for them to implement a great system. I blame the old team for this though since they did code the convoluted mess that we got at launch. If the old systems weren't so bad they didn't need to be entirely replaced we could have this sooner.
People will always continue to whine even though they were given logical reasons why things will be a certain way until they move the game to a brand new client and servers. It's pretty sad honestly.
Actually, the convoluted mess comes from using an engine not suited for MMO play alongside a serverside interface, so the old team clearly can make a good MMO (FMO and FFXI), but they chose a horrible route for XIV's design due to trying to combat RMT before it even starts.
So moving XIV at least to a new engine will rectify a lot of issues.
I guess my expectations of this were too high. Nowhere did they explicitly say that you could dye anything using any color, but it seemed that myself along with others were thinking this was going to happen with this patch.
To me, that specific part led me to believe we were going to have the ability to dye any item any color. So I get one more color choice for Cobalt Cuirass. /sadfaceQuote:
Dyeing an item with the new recipes implemented in patch 1.19 would not only change its color; the item’s attributes and equipping requirements would also be affected. This essentially rendered players unable to dye gear to their liking.
Yoshi-P posted in another thread that it would take a long time to implement every color for every item, so I guess it was silly of me to think I'd be able to customize my armor however I wanted before 2.0. Not to mention that doing so would take away from other things that they're doing.
I kind of wish they'd have just left the current colors that are available for each armor model as-is, separated the stats from the color, and put the hours spent into a different project, since it seems dying won't be as it truly should be until 2.0.
Actually, I'm not. Thanks for trying to invoke an ad hominem invalid argument. Perhaps you meant that you do not believe that Square Enix missed the big picture. This has NOTHING to do with me.
Short term, ill-conceived, temporary patches do not permanently fix the problem. They only exacerbate the problem by creating somthing more complex that it needs to be. They are not fixing the problem with this solution.
rather disappointed that the only color they added to armorer was green for vambraces, was really hoping for black. Pretty lazy if you ask me, whats the point of changing it if you dont add any extra colors.
