Vedrfolnir / Darkscale fate

I was wondering, isn't it time to nerf it a bit or at least make Vedrfolnir invincible?
The problem with this fate is that it requiers lots of people to do it, like any big fate made for many players. Usually, you can deal with just 4 - 5 players if you have 20min+ ahead of you. But this one, you need to heal the goddamn Vedrfolnir, and one heal isn't enough. By the time we go get people he already ran away and the fate fail. That concerns the prerequisite fate as much as the Darkscale fate.
So maybe it was doable when Heavensward came out and the zone was full, but now there's like 5 - 6 players in the zone and they're mainly doing MSQ. So, any way to make it doable as of now, like, what I said, making Vedrfolnir invincible and just actually leave the fate timer do its job, or any other solution?

These things do work, but they're highly contingent upon having someone nearby who is a WHM. Since the purpose of the FATE is leveling, it's unreasonable to expect that to always be the case.

That said, the large-scale FATEs are, and always have been, dumpstered content that you have to complete during their brief period of relevance, or else you'll always miss out on the rewards. If your concern is leveling, there are a lot more effective ways to do it than FATEs, so there is that, at least.

I wanted the achievement and also the Vedrfolnir fate for the chocobo barding which requier to do Darkscale fate

Basically what i'm asking is not making it soloable, but just Vedrfolnir tough enough for us to get search for people without the fate to fail within 1min.

Should probably be requesting that Special Tarasque FOrce be completable by a single party also

All it takes is to get an 8 man dedicated group. 1 tank 1 healer 6 dps. Or 2 healers if you want to be doubly sure. My FC and I did the full chain in an hour. Was plenty of fun

To counter your request OP. I don't think a nerf is necessary. You should have a party before starting in the first place and you've plenty of time to do it too. Especially since one of the fates required to start the fate you are talking about doesn't start until you trigger it in the first place. (End of the Rainbow I think)

I've completed the FATE with a Light Party, there's no reason why a single party can't clear the FATE. You just need to actually do a mechanic for it instead of brainless tank and spank.

I really hope fates don't get easier for small parties. It's nice having hard content in the open world that need people to gather up for it. And with Novice Network and Party Finder, it's not that much trouble to get people to come help so I think it's fine if fates require things like tanks and healers.

The only thing that sucks about this fate is that it fails way to quickly. The Hinterlands one is still challenging but because the first fate isn't failed if you're not in the area ready for it, it seems perfect to me. The best thing I think for fates like this is to keep them as a combo FATE like Behemoth / Darkscale / Hinterlands, but don't make the first one have such strict timing on it. This way you have an extended amount of time to keep calling people over for the fate so when you do get to the final part, even if it's a hard FATE, you will have gathered at least a small amount of people to help.

I like this change, although I understand people who want hard content that they can do in the open world (never going into beautiful zones again sort of sucks - beastmen quests help for specific zones but they're not really hard).

I think they should revisit their leve system. Streamline it to be easier to use for general sense, examining and managing the traveling done (both to start, to do, and collect reward), how the restock of leves works - I think perhaps reducing the max but globally increasing their value and duration appropriately, and on top of the global value increase make a shifting zone bonus where that areas rewards are greatly enhanced or perhaps a few unique leve's available during that period (with unique/greater scaled rewards) - to keep you visiting new areas rather than visiting a guide to see the best place to spam a specific type of leve only. For zones where the level is really low the few unique leves could be scaled content, or at a few higher tier level brackets - so you'd still visit Central Shroud as a level 65.

That streamline might make it considered more often again for DoW/M leveling - as right now I mostly just see them for DoH/L. There is a surprising amount of Lore and non-random text in leve's and they also offer better control to make interesting content than a FATE in an open world setting (like a weekly "epic" / burning circle leve for example). Could examine the treasure hunt system a bit too, perhaps being able to force a map to a zone (lower tiers?) - just consider making things convenient will encourage people to lump activities together. A treasure map UI where you store then and can hold more than one would be nice (cannot control where the higher tier locations are, to keep some balance/speed control and wandering).

So yeah I agree interesting, hard specifically as well, content on the open world is nice Kuma - part of the issue is reward structure and efficiency (of non open vs open), but at least personally I think being able to actually do the FATEs when you see them is a better feeling rather than "welp, no one cares to get this FATE now so doing this just became incredibly unlikely". Where treasure maps and leves would be willful task and you'd know if you needed a group before hand, or if you picked a slightly less rewarding solo "epic" content you'd still be expecting. While for FATEs its a bit uncontrolled and I've seen a lot of FATEs I'd like to tick off my list but know I'll never be able to get a party together before the time is up (FATEs that may have achievements or rewards that are no longer pertinent, anything of current desire is no problem on Balmung - perhaps they die too fast in that scenario lol).

Is it sad that the only large fate I know about is Odin, and I've only done it once. I need to look into these fates.

The only FATEs that are hard to tick off right now are the Darkscale fates, because Vedrfolnir dies really quickly, and the Highbridge fates, because the NPCs die quickly. Highbridge fates are decent in a way since you can start the rescue fate when ever you're ready and solo it and you know a short time later the achievement fates will spawn so you can start recruiting.

A lot of hard fates that need parties have 30 minute timers. And these fates can be cleared in around 10 minutes. So you have around 15 minutes to get people to come before you really need to start the fate, and then you can keep getting people to come as you clear the FATE. You've got that turtle and a bunch of other ones like it too though (like the crab), even had a group of 15 on the turtle (I'm sure some people were one handing it/not trying) and failed with the 8 minutes we started it at lol.

I'm not saying it's impossible, I'm just saying I think when you've got stuff spawn and despawn it's a much better feeling to know if you tried there is an acceptable chance you could get it done with lesser numbers (rather than a large mass, or a tight knit group, both of which are not common when stuff is not explicitly desirable anymore), especially as not everyone plays at peak time or is looking at content everyone cares about - maybe your server is still infatuated with FATEs but mine only is when they have high value (EXP FATE areas, specific zones, or things like Odin).

I've seen people fail Darkscale plenty of times while I was crafting away because they couldn't get enough /a WHM lol. Perhaps its just server specific issues, but at least personally I'd like to see hard content but in content that you've willingly joined, or doesn't have a vanishing/failing point*, rather than content that you'll likely never get to do without getting a bunch of people who have nothing better to do :P. * Like if you fail to do a Leve not a big deal, do it again, fail to do a FATE? Wait 2-24 hours, and if you're lucky and have no personal schedule you'll catch it again later if not.. maybe you wont see it again for quite a while.

Which ones are you talking about? Cancer in Costa Del Sol and the Turtle in Dravanian Forelands? Both can be done with 4 people easy, but you need 1 tank and 1 healer and actually do the mechanic for the Dravaian Forelands turtle. Both have 30 minute timers, and can be cleared in around 15 minutes with 4 people. It's not that hard to get 3 other people to come help do a hard achievement fate.

Yes, that's the issue OP is bringing up. The FATE doesn't need to get easier, just the first fate needs to stop being auto failed in 1-2 minutes if people are not at the FATE ready for it.

I think the primary purpose of FATEs is to get people moving around either solo or in small dynamic sets of people as a sort of fluctuating public leve with random compositions (no "can't do this FATE without the holy trinity"), skill ability, and sizes. Also you keep talking about small parties and organized people but I have to say the regular scenario is chaos not organization, here at least lol. I just disagree with you on the premise of what belongs in FATEs, I want what you want but in other systems like improved Leves and Treasure Chests and other like contents.

Although I respect that's what you want in them, or that you think people can handle it (I disagree, but I don't think that makes you "wrong" just that I don't think that's their intention / general use).

Basically if you cant put a small group of random monkeys in the room and get the FATE done then you either change the FATE so more monkeys want to come (Odin) or make it so you don't need as many monkeys :P. Interestingly though you also want the FATE to be able to scale so if there so happened to be a flood, that'd it'd be able to hold itself for a little bit before collapsing. And I say monkeys with love <3 lol.

This perspective of FATE is probably why I've never really valued them as a "main content" though, I believe they're fine as a side random thing. I think if you started to make them harder and more strict (have this job or fail) that you'd get A LOT more ruckus in game and out though any time the FATE wasn't currently the flavor of the month, I believe FATEs are destined to be easy - which is why while I want hard (and rewarding) open world content I suggest that it should be found/created elsewhere (and I've always suggested non-public party systems when I do lol, NM camping like in the days of FFXI can be a past memory for all I care XD /shudder).

So your groups of four or whatever, they're better than the average group I think, and I don't think an average small random group of random jobs on the turtle is going to get it done as consistently unless they're there very early on (and I think having people have time restrictions is a bit silly "4 for 15 mins, 8 for 10 mins, oh you're 4 and 9 mins? Well you can't do it then, move along").

From reading their post part is the issue of failing due to not being able to keep them alive but also another part of their post is the issue of numbers, how many are needed for certain FATEs.

Careful inserting intention into my words- never said they needed to suit me, I said what I think the purpose of FATEs are and I used the fact that SE is making certain FATEs easier for smaller groups for the basis of my thought (admittedly across multiple posts, so have to read it as one whole unit if you want to understand my intention). I actually rarely touch FATE content.. so its not me asking for me (it wasn't even me asking in the first place lol). I've had a few achievements I've missed yeah but it didn't really bother me, just a bit like "damn, missed that meaningless extra 10 achievement points".

Again, I believe SE wants FATEs to be something people can easily and readily get together with whoever is in the zone at the time and do it, besides the most important (like Odin) also no need for specific compositions and when they can't anymore SE is going to change it - I believe, and feel supported by the aspect of how they responded to this thread (they're going to make it easier for a smaller group).

This isn't me designing FATEs to my tastes for me and only my concerns, this is me talking about why I think you won't get what you want and why it would be better to look else where and that I value what you want (perhaps besides the aspect of timers part haha, don't really care for the FATEs on timers/cycles part). Which is why I suggested other things that could be done to do, especially content for already end game players too even. It is also why I specifically said I don't think you're wrong about what you'd like to see, just that I don't think it'll be as likely or last as long as if we had something else (like more Treasure / Interesting and valuable Leves).

To the point of me thinking you're not "wrong" I also believe you're free to ask for the opposite of what is going to be changed, not suggesting you not ask either~! I was attempting to suggest a tangent system that achieved a similar feeling while also suggesting why the change is going to take place both from a personal perspective and as well what I think SE sees out of the content (in a later post). I think unfortunately if they did perhaps make a harder (or in your scenario, since it seems like your group has a few kupo nuts to share, a reasonable difficulty) FATE - I imagine it would get nerfed after a while when a few people said it was too hard and or annoying as people failed it too often. Basically even if you got what you want I don't think it'd last very long, and that's not cause I'm saying it shouldn't.. just that I don't think it would - because of how FATEs are presented to people as a sort of open arms come at me for an easy time sort of thing lol. I would still love to see some more hard open world content though, the open world is pretty cool and I'd like to travel more of it more often, but also have a reward that's worth while - not just go to Horizon because the statues look cool (which they do lol).

Although the change does benefit me when I do see a FATE, like Darkscale, it'll be easier to get done, it's still not my request that it was changed just that it happens to benefit me. If I happened to do it, I'd get it done far more reliably - one of the reasons I usually didn't switch from crafter to join in was like "lol 4 people, all DD and 10 minutes late, this one is not going to make it". I may actually join in now.

I read the OP. His issue was with that FATE by the time they got there the duder already took too much damage but as others have pointed out its easily mitigated. As I've pointed out also is that one of the fates required to make that fate spawns requires you to start it and because of that there is ample time to get a decent party. That fate (rainbow) requires the same mechanic of healing the drangonling and in my mind serves as a benchmark on wether or not you can finish the fate chain anyways. Even of your dps was slow, the fate in the op has no aggro table because it is locked on the guy you're supposed to be defending. It's like a dps and heal check wrapped into a fate and it is one of the only instances like that.

No, I don't think any fate really needs adjustment because these fights are really fun and exciting. The only ones really that feel high stakes and feel good to finish with a group.

But thats the thing, it's a group effort and manageable with 5-8 people. There's no real reason I can see that wouldn't get you a party in time anyways. I play on Famfrit and our population is low to the point all housing areas have open plots for days at some times.

I don't want this made easier because it's one of the few group things left in the open world that isn't mindless farming

The fates aren't even that hard so far. All it takes is coordination and networking

Arutan is OP ;D, not saying you didn't know that but it looked like it. Perhaps you could suggest other ways to add cool open world content? Feel free to rally against SE, really not trying to stop people (totally their right to not like a change) but I think we could get the same feeling of neat open world content while keeping what I think SE wants with FATEs.

Like I said, I "THINK" they want them to be relatively manageable with /whatever/ combination of jobs you come at it with, and with what is available in the zone currently, besides extremely unique ones like Odin (Darkscale != Odin) - and the key issue here was you're not getting the dragon fate done without either an entire ark of DD or a few healers/WHM, and it looks like SE is responding by saying they're noting that issue.

At least the reason why I've hitched onto Kuma/I guess a bit of your point so much is I agree open world content = cool - more please? And honestly I think you could make it better by not going through FATEs which are not really reliable, and if you boost all FATEs rewards too much then you'll have another problem on your hands lol. So something like making Leves intriguing again - since at least from what I've seen is a rather underused content now (minus DoH/L), changing a few bits to the system, adding a few challenge / new leve types for adventurous solo and groups.. maybe this could be a better route for everyone? Or another system. Having the FATEs available in the background with a more incentivized/easier to use leve system would be an extra bonus (part of the issue I think is the whole obtaining, dropping off, menu barrage, and rewards not being horrible but not really O.O "yeah!" either). Edit: realized it might not be clear when I speak of higher rewards I don't mean "easy + rewarding", just modified to encourage higher difficulty to be worth while (and all of the leve changes I suggested don't have to be hard persay, but I feel that content is hardly visited besides as said DoH/L and of course bots lol).

Edit: @Dreggit, Definitely understand your point of view, like Kuma's and I don't think either desire is wrong, nor the OP's, but as said I have my own feelings too: like much of what is desired I like, perhaps just in a different form - as a matter of preference, you're right leves can be stiff but anything a FATE can do besides dynamic grouping a leve could do as well, where FATEs are good for dynamic group Leves can shine in their control of the specific situation like in difficulty, location, regularity, and even add more complex encounters due to expectation. I like the idea of more weather/unique event stuff btw. Going to avoid adding another post just because I feel it'll be easy to entirely commandeer the thread lol.

If the issue was uninteresting zones then that is a fault in the design of the zone. I understand the sentiment in that there are flaws with specific fates and I do agree that there are flaws. But I don't see a reason to change this particular fate chain because as I said it really comes down to a networking issue among people. It might be interesting if they had some weather based fates that effected the environment in some way that changed the world. But I doubt the current engine could support that much less getting people to do it anyways.

Fates in nature are stale in that they are all following the same kind of actions. Same thing can be said about levequests and dungeons. They follow a strict kind of outline with little deviation. More mechanic heavy fates could be fun.

I don't see a reason why the only interesting ones need changing

As one who did the Darkscale Fate chain and the fates required for Vedrfolnir Devoteth on two of my characters, here are my thoughts on each related fate:

1. Rastaban Vibration - Just a usual fate with trash mobs. Nothing too bad here.

2. Mogicide - At least the fate doesn't end in the event the moogle gets beat by the boss. Just another usual boss fight.

3. End of the Rainbow - This is one fate I have a problem with when one does it solo. The Zenith Dragonling must be healthy in order for the fate to be successful. But there are several hard-hitting enemies that also have quite a high amount of HP. In addition, the untargetable boss will also hit said Dragonling. The fate is also synced to level 58, so attack and healing output are also limited.

4. Darkscale Descendeth - Because of it's long spawn timer as it is a big-boss fate with an achievement (e.g., Lazy for You, The Eyes Have It, Dark Devices, etc.), it isn't really feasible to camp the fate unless one really wants the exp, i136 belt, achievement, and access to Vedrfolnir Devoteth. Vedrfolnir will be defeated in a minute if no healer is there to keep him healthy as the OP brought up. Not to mention that Vedrfolnir will be tanking the fate for all 3 parts. And don't underestimate Darkscale when he starts going crazy with his room-wide aoe during the Devoureth part. The vulnerability stacks add up and the attack hurts real bad.

Might as well put the fate requiring all the 4 above fates to be completed:

5. Vedrfolnir Devoteth - Death Sentence hurts and will always put that Infirmity debuff, so healers have to use abilities to heal instead (and it will be used quite often I might add). Finally, players tend to be close to each other most of the time so the Tornado (the Twister-like move that isn't instakill, but still hits hard) clips on the players and knocks some of them out.


With FATEs being looked down upon and Palace of the Dead being a great alternative to level, people will be less likely to get the achievements related to the Darkscale and Vedrfolnir fates (and also harder to get the Ishgardian Half-barding from the latter fate).

I'm tired of these threads trying to fix things that aren't broken. The fates are made so you plan ahead to do them. You are not ment to solo them. There is literally nothing wrong with the design of them but I'm talking to walls so I'm walking away now

The issue for these large-scale Heavensward fates, especially Darkscale Descendeth, is actually relevance. Those fights were designed at the start of Heavensward, back when zone content was far more relevant since far more people were still leveling through those zones. Now that these zones are considerably sparse compared to 3.0, there aren't as many groups (let alone WHMs or any other healers for that matter) that those fates were designed for, especially when once players got their reward from it, they were done with it permanently.

Same case with Diadem. Once a player got their pegasus, they were done with it. No reward to keep players coming to open-world content continuously (i.e. seals, tomestones, etc.) makes that content no longer relevant.

They should also put back aetheric profusion to the Vedrfolnir fate. They removed it in a patch, but I dunno why.

Like i suggest have moogle guards come aid you in the fate fight this way it won't be made easyer also if enough people for the fate the it scale the moogle guards back

So, just came across it, shouted my ls and the map.... and it failed. No heal made it in time and Verdrfolnir fleed away.

I don't think there's any need to nerf it, it's fairly easy to spawn. Just plan ahead, get some party members, do the req. fates and go crazy.

I've done the darkscale chain several times, on a few characters. If I put a pf up, explicitly stating that it's for the chain, it tends to fill pretty quickly and there's no issue clearing any of it. A whm's not required: ast can regen too, and sch can put up shields. Sch definitely has the hardest time healing Vedrfolnir, but it's not impossible. You might struggle if you tried using a pld as your healer :p Might be possible though, with stoneskin spam and riot blade.

On Dangerous Ground, Go Go Gorgimera, It's Not Lupus, Lazy For You, the Hive FATEs, Highbridge, Poor Maid's Misfortune are all soloable, with a healerbo. For the level synced ones you'll occasionally want to unsync to heal up. I've not tried it but the Hinterlands one probably is too, though that's trickier as there are more adds to avoid pulling.

As people have mentioned the Tarrasque Force FATE isn't too difficult if people actually do the mechanics. We Fought a Dzu and Dark Devices aren't too hard with a small party. The rare weather/behe FATEs are, of course, special cases.
