DEVS: May we PLEASE have an answer regarding the Feast and the Quick Chat feature?

I know this is a question for the PvP section, but we've been asking and giving our feedback there, speaking up against the disabling of chat in the Feast in favor of this new system, but it feels like we've been ignored. This is really causing a growing feeling of disappointment and driving people away from wanting to queue for the Feast entirely, among other problems. So I'm asking here in an attempt to really give it more exposure.

There was never any reason at all given for this change, and even after 2 months or so of very negative feedback regarding this change (and the potential problems it might, and HAS caused) we've heard nothing. Players assume it was a means to curb negativity and/or bad manners in Feast matches, but we remain in the dark in regards to the exact reason why this change was made, and the Feast gameplay experience has declined drastically practically overnight. Fact is, whatever issues it may have solved, has only in its place created more and bigger issues. Worse than that, with the influx of newer players, interested in PvP either for the Garo event, or perhaps simply finally giving it a try, they are unable to learn how to play successfully or get advice from players with more experience, and this increasingly alienates both old and new players alike from the mode.

So I ask you, Devs, to please break your silence on this matter. There has been months of negative feedback, and foresight into these issues, and now we're suffering them firsthand, and still with not so much as an acknowledgement of how the player community - specifically those who actively PvP - feel on the matter. We don't wish to feel as if we're being ignored. We don't wish to participate in the Feast and not be able to properly communicate with our teams. We don't wish to have our months of feedback feel as it it was simply brushed aside, and without even a reason why. Please answer us.

Sadly you are right, they could use a mute system like Riot or Blizzard, however that system is abused too so I don't know. IMO they implemented this in order to don't "waste" time with harassment tickets.

Yeah, we've overall got a very pleasant and helpful community.
We do however have a small percentage of nasty trolls and a fairly substantial population of easily triggered snowflakes, mix in some PvP and you probably get hundreds and hundreds of time wasting tickets that amount to nothing more than "someone was meaaaaaan to me ;-;"

I also hate this new system. At least make it optional in some way. It's impossible to communicate properly; I don't want to smother my actual action bars (which are pretty darn full already on console) with shortcuts for speech and whenever I actually need to relay some critical information to my team I can't (or can't quickly, without fiddling around with the interface). It was so much easier just to type! If people were being abusive I'd rather see them outright banned from the Feast for a season, not silenced. They can, presumably, still passively aggressively spam 'Good match!' when it wasn't to make people feel frustrated even now.

Why not just let people add them to their blacklist and when they're blacklisted like that they can't get into a party with that person again? Eventually nasty players will have queues so long they will just leave or make premades.

Unfortunately, all it seems to be accomplishing is killing the Feast. A mute system would be better than silencing everyone. Granted, they should have GMs assigned to the Feast and ban players who harass others.

If that were so true, then the thread we made the day it was announced that is STILL continuing over in the PvP section would have warranted a response by now. As it has not, I am making yet another appeal to the Devs through the forums, as they so often welcome us to do.

They're not exactly going to do a dev blog titled 'You're all a bunch of assholes!' are they.

From my experience, I want no part in the feast. I tried it a couple of times, and got yelled at, and treated like crap for being new. It ruined the experience for me, and I honestly feel reluctant to try again. This feature is honestly a blessing to me, because maybe now I can participate, and feel less hostile. Frontlines can get edgy, but it's rarely ever intolerable as my feast experiences. You can point the blame on me, but when I walked in, I did so to have fun. I didn't need any of the disrespect, which in my opinion is inexcusable. It doesn't make me a special snowflake, and it isn't making me triggered. Triggered is just a term people use to shrug off people in uncomfortable situatons. It's not actually an accurate term most of the time, granted there are exceptions.

It actually has the complete opposite effect, by creating more threads on the issue it could be the same people liking each thread. Now if all of them where together the likes are combined showing SE that the community are in favour of it. All you have done creating another thread is made it more difficult to see how players feel.

No, this is more along the lines of "mods/devs don't read the PvP forums but they do read the general discussion forums".

Again, I cite the fact that PvPers were quick to organize and speak out on the matter, and continued to do so from the day it was announced. And STILL even now. We've exhausted every reasonable method to give feedback, short of avoiding/boycotting the content altogether. Making the claim that another thread was counterproductive seems wrong, as many other issues have been addressed in a similar manner before. I'm not demanding an answer, nor spamming the forums. But complaints about inability to get the Feast Season 3 top 10 minion were answered within 10 days. The questions regarding the Garo gear available through the Gold Saucer were answered within a day. This matter that is directly gameplay related has gone unanswered, and that is not okay. Would it be okay if this kind of impactful change was made to raiding or even just regular dungeons, seemingly without reason? If the answer is no, why then are we PvPers expected to simply accept the change as is, without question OR answer?

First, how you were treated was not okay at all. No one deserves flak for being new, and while I know things like that DO happen (and let me say as a regular PvPer, it happens to a minimum), it's still not okay. I will ask however if anyone made attempts to give advice or tips, and if you listened to them? I say that because many times I've seen newer people come in expecting the worst, and maintain a defensive posture in the face of criticism (constructive or not) or show a general disdain for the content. It should be said that most players are willing to give advice to someone newer simply because they want to win, and the community is too small to go chasing off new people who may be interested.

The bigger issue is that, even if you do want to participate, you may not have to bear hostility and that's great. But you will not receive help either. Aside from marking a target and hoping you and the rest of the team know to attack that target, I wouldn't be able to explain perhaps that the healer I marked has used all their big cooldowns and would be prone to a focused attack, or that a tank has 10 stacks of medals and is thus as weak as a DPS. When the fight becomes a deadlock on either team's bridge, I can't tell you someone with most of the other team's medals is hiding in the back and if you flank around you can draw him out, or that standing there all grouped up is a very bad position to be in because they have a SMN on their team. If you're a healer, you can't even ask for MP anymore.

I'm all for fair chances and proper, sportsman-like conduct, but not at the cost of effective communication which is a core of teamwork and victory. So, while this change may seem great to you, it's not worth its cost, especially when situations like what you unfortunately had to experience were thankfully not the norm.

Its abit annoying to open another thread while I dont like the chat restriction its not fair to act like we are being ignored on this topic for months. Thing is they heard the negative feedback but still wanted to release it to atleast try it without chat. I think we probably get a reply close to the next patch. Also its not a minimum in fact you have hard time as new player people build clique etc. its pure salt from its finest and trashtalking ppl (even good ppl that just have a bad match) is often seen. What people forget even without chat people make fun of you (twitch chat etc.) but thats just normal in such an environment especially if the pvpers all know each other and can tell easily who is new or not.

You're just gonna queue in now, still have no idea what to do with no one able to tell you or help you, and when you derp up they're gonna stand over your corpse and spam the {Nice job!} macro over and over. Instead of being able to clearly report that player for harassment, they're gonna tell a GM that English isn't their first language and they were just trying to encourage you, not troll you. Meanwhile, if they'd been free to tell you to get cancer and die in a fire, there would be clear-cut evidence present for a GM to ban them, thus removing them from the content altogether.

Great system, yeah?

I think we can all agree that whenever someone uses the 'good job' quick chat they're being sarcastic right? Lets not let a little thing like chat being disabled stop us!

Ye I did and the thread was made when it got announced they obviously didnt replied back then cause they wanted to see the feature and collect data/feedback how it is when ppl actually have to play with it. They made it clear pretty early that they want to release the feature first before considering other solutions. Did you even read my post?

thing is they did say why they were doing it (player harassment) on a live letter. reason they haven't responded is because outside of platitudes they probably don't have anything to report at this time. Keep in mind that overall this is a "pet project" (pvp in general) for Yoshi-P and he is trying to make it successful enough to warrant further development of said feature. (I could be wrong but I really see the pvp aspect maybe not being that popular among his fellow devs XD) So this might have been an over reaching move, but it is meant to allow ppl easier access to said content and "competitive" lvls of pvp tend to involve voice chat for the most part. (not suggesting its a good reason to restrict chat just saying that across the board it is the norm)

Even if its just assumption it doesnt change the fact that you cant say we got ignored for months since the feature got implemented just this week. Imagine ppl would complain about the new feast map before its even released and then call it being "ignored" doesnt make sense right? I doubt that devs care about feedback which was made before the feature got implemented.

More precisely: It has no dev replies. Whether they have read it or not is up in the air and whether they are simply oblivious to it or are purposely ignoring it is also up in the air.

I personally don't think the reason for this change really needs to be spelled out, because it's pretty much just the chat ban commonly used on toxic players applied on a global scale. There's no sweet-talking it: It's a blanket measure to cut GM effort and should be viewed as such. Further, it does not solve the underlying issue, as in: It does not remove the reason people lash out at others in the first place. But that issue cannot be reasonably solved, all solutions are unreasonable to one party or another. I personally still would have just removed/disabled the troublesome mode instead and I know how furious people can get at the very thought, because it is entirely unreasonable to them. And I don't think square is too fond of the idea of asking for a certificate of an anger management course as prerequisite for participating in the Feast.

On that note, what surprises me is that they also put it into the Fold and 8vs8, because unlike in ranked, where you could be lucky to go 5 matches without someone calling someone an "idiot", "fucktard", "moron" or other niceties, I didn't personally witness any noteworthy amount of insults there and in particular, none directed at individuals. Either it's a technical limitation on the implementation, or I simply got lucky in my sample size; either way I didn't expect it.

That said, a big issue with the system as it is is that a lot of crucial things are missing. Not a single line addresses teamcomp in 8vs8. The only way to ask for purify is to spam "Purify not ready!" when CC'd and hope people get the hint. Support abilities or CC coordination (See shoulder tackle vs shield bash) are entirely missing. "Stopping Healer" is incredibly vague. The only commands for group positioning are:"Everyone attack!" and "Fall Back!", with the prior implying that so far, you haven't been attacking for some odd reason. The current iteration is highly flawed and that's something that should definitely be acknowledged and that people have been worried about in advance - rightfully so. I think the purify example was even explicitly mentioned.

Overall, it's quite iffy.

How about they solve it by keeping the current system BUT you can also type in whatever you like unless two non-premade members right-click you and report you as verbally abusive. If that happens you can only talk in the preset speech actions for the match, or the next hour or something. It can obviously be exploited, but at least those of us in groups without jerks can just get on with it and talk and leave the drama to others. If people are reporting insane numbers of people or getting reported in 99% of the matches they join, they can then be investigated if/when the team ever decides to clean up bad players. Condemning everyone to be unable to perform basic communication is just annoying. At least allow auto-translate (though that in itself is depressingly limited).

The worst thing for me is that all JP games end with a customary farewell and when the window pops up with the scores I really struggle to hit R1+Down or whatever my bar for 'stupid text commands' was while it's loading, choose the command before people leave, give out a commendation (if applicable) and process the results. It's just a mess with windows overlaid on top of windows overlaid on top of compromises for a problem that I've never even experienced because nobody has ever been verbally abusive in any match I have ever played.

Generally, people know a bad idea when they see one, and from the moment it was mentioned, we began giving our feedback on it. Namely, making it clear we didn't like and didn't want the change. We also noted that it would also stop players from sharing advice or tips. We ALSO noted that the system would likely not cover many of the situations we often run into. We ALSO suggested what many are still suggesting; that is, implementing this system as a form of punishment for people who abuse the chat.

But we never got anything back, and the change was made anyways. So yes, they never replied, and we feel pretty ignored. Especially when other player concerns have been answered much more quickly.

Minion thread was reply'd to and fixed 7 days after it got announced. People didn't get the minions yet, people didn't see the minions yet. Outrage before a feature comes out has been enough in the past and should be enough.

I'd like to see a response too. There really are a handful of assholes in PVP and cutting them off from being abusive jerks would do a lot for the system as a whole. We should be able to do to them the same effect as gold sellers. Right click > Report - get more than 2 of those in a given time, the asshole gets muted. Easy.

I'd also support a more proactive system, simply because it removes the offending individuals from the PVP mode (through silences or bans) while not impacting regular, helpful, normal players. I hate solutions where every potential user is treated as an abuser.

There is a difference between a change in gameplay and a reward structure of smth though but gj

It really should have simply been made optional. That way people who wish to make use of it can do so whilst those who don't can turn it off.

Except, you could test the feature before they implemented it. If you didn't like what the chat said you have always been able to hide the chat window. Not only that, but anyone who has played PVP with any regularity were astutely aware of what playing with a team that didn't communicate felt like. To say that feedback pre-implementation is of no value is disingenuous I think.

I honestly doubt SE cares enough about the PvP community to do anything about it. This change, just like the minion one, was not requested by the actual PvP community, but by players who casually pick up PvP, or don't even PvP at all. Because that's the playerbase they care about. If they cared about PvP, they would not have taken this long to implement the Frontline Freelancer option, for instance. Or, they would actually monitor the Feast, and give out punishments to win traders, match throwers, and toxic players. Oh, they told us they would, with a massive stickied lie at the top of the PvP forum. But nothing actually happened. They just do. Not. Care. They do not care that their change has actually made the Feast worse for everyone, new players included. You can't even give advice now. Or any sort of relevant feedback to the state of the match. All to protect someone's feelings, from being called out for being bad. I'm just wondering when they're going to remove the chat from duty finder for PvE content. Cause, you know the players there are fond of telling others to die in a dumpster fire. But it's only an issue when PvP players do it, right? Such a joke.

I played The Feast in the past and received non-stop harassment and it was a really unenjoyable experience. My personal "favourites" were "I hope you get cancer" and "I hope your parents die in a car crash". But even on less of a scale I was repeatedly told to uninstall the game (?!) or never play feast again or basically blamed for every mistake.

Since the chat has been muted though... I'm having a blast and shock horror, I think I'm actually getting better at it. There have been a few times where I've wished chat was re-enabled, but overall so much happier with how it is now. I think SE didn't really have much of a choice though, if they had to do more moderating (which is just costing them more staff/time) they'd also likely have to start banning more people for user harassment (it's in the user agreement!) and they don't really want to do that.

I can't really see how that would work though. You could end up with a team of players who all have chat enabled and can easily communicate with each other vs a team of players who have previously been harassed by players so they turned off the chat, as such they can't communicate as efficiently putting their entire team at an instant disadvantage.

Yes it would have been their choice to turn off the chat, but if the only alternative would be to reenable the chat and take the harassment again, that's not really much of an option. At least this way everyone is in the same boat.

Which is even worse, really. "Here's what we think you need!"

Chat off is a very lazy way to handle Feast toxicity. That being said I'm actually going to queue for it again, I never really got shit but watching the healers get yelled at constantly was a huge turnoff.

Scott, I won't sugarcoat it, but please bear with me: You were the catalyst for the top 10 minion change, and that rubbed a LOT of people the wrong way. When you couple that with being new to ranked Feast, not knowing what's going on, thus costing people rating points, and the fact that you were there purely for the minion and would likely not participate otherwise, you became quite infamous quickly.

No, this does not in any way validate or justify people harrassing or treating you poorly in the Feast. But this is also not something exclusive to PvP, and it is a point many have argued on deaf ears thus far. For the sake of comparison, consider the Feast a farm party; you were the "One or more players have yet to complete this duty". I say again, that's no excuse to be mistreated, but 8v8 (while a poor example) is meant as the "practice" mode, and plenty of other people have worked to make starter guides available. Diving right into ranked was effectively joining a farm party and not knowing the fight, which also often draws equally bad reactions from players.

I digress, however, that this isn't about you solely. It's about the PvP playerbase overall now: We were ignored when we said we didn't like or want a change, and continue to be. We pointed out potential problems ahead of time, and now are faced with them. And though participation is up due to the Garo event, the overall enjoyment and performance within the Feast is rapidly declining. Most are simply trying to get their mount, then be done with the Feast for good. Were I someone at SE, this would warrant my attention, if even to simply say "we've heard your concerns and plan to address them".

But we haven't even gotten that.

So, what you're saying is, we got our answers after all. Instead of even saying that they got the message, they put us back in our corner so we'd shut up. I'd say that's a pretty good way to say "Shut up. We don't care what you want, nor are you worth the time to even respond to."

I won't lie, I'm pretty disappointed to see the only response given is to just move the thread. I'm aware forum moderation and actual dev response are two separate things entirely, but if the time was taken to move the thread, I at least hope time was taken to pass the information within along to possibly see something done.

To not do so at this point would reflect quite poorly, and deal yet another crippling blow to the confidence the PvP community has in ever being heard. And frankly, that's far too much of a slippery slope. If PvPers can be so easily pushed aside, who's next after us?

SE does not know how to manage PvP. First they created the PvP materia and gear with the Morale stat, then took it away. Then, they took away our chat. They've been steadily stripping PvP down since it began because of their own gross incompetence in creating and managing content.

Everyone's default answer to why this happened is 'everyone is an asshole', but honestly it's no worse than trying to do EX Primals. Have you even seen the kinds of shitfits people throw in SephEX, or Nidhogg EX? It's unreal. But we still have chat there.

8v8 has always been super chill and casual, never any real fire there. Ranked? Ok, yeah, maybe. But to an extent it's justified when you have actual rankings on the line and it feels like you're being griefed.

That being said, they've removed a way to learn, in ranked. When I first started entering Ranked PvP, I posted here, and on Reddit asking for advice. When I queued in, I asked my party for their input and what they'd like me to do, or I'd make suggestions like. "Hey, I'm going to be harassing their healer, is that OK?". I got a lot of help and great advice from my parties. I went in with an open mind, I took advice, I ASKED for advice in the briefing period, and I was generally met well.

You know what isn't met well? Wandering in with a belligerent 'don't tell me what to do' attitude and wiping your team over and over again. The problem isn't always other people. Sometimes you're the fucking problem and you need to own that and listen to people. If you are entering a collaborative, team based competitive mode of play and you are uncooperative and unwilling to listen to/work with your teammates, you are the problem. Someone disagreeing with you or trying to correct you is not, and never has been an attack. It is not always coddling or gentle, but if you present yourself as open to learning, people are a lot nicer. Going in blind and costing your teammates wins is aggravating, and will generate an aggravated response. Coming in with an adaptable and open attitude will get you, and your team where you need to be.

But instead of that, our lovely community responded with a metric fuckload of infantile screaming that both PvP players and the Devs didn't want to hear, so we ALL got muzzled.

I had an AST queue up in Feast ranked once and it was their first match ever. Noticing this, my party IMMEDIATELY started trying to help them. In the briefing period we got their PvP abilities, helped them pick a stance, and gave them a general crash course. And you know what? We won.

Now, there is no room for those teachable moments at all. I can't tell other tanks about stances, or the 4 stack threshold.

I can't even use my macros to let people know I've hit max stacks, or that I need help focusing a Holmganged target. The same thing applies to Black Mages with sleep.

All coordination is dead. It's a shitshow now more than ever before.

And it also takes away from a lot of that community feeling. When I run into people repeatedly in matches, I'd say hello or compliment them on the last run if we ended up on the same team this time. Or I'd offer some advice on how to counter stuff. I actually made a few friends that way.

The Devs will just continue to ignore us, because acknowledging us means acknowledging their own failures. They have not known how to run PvP successfully from the start, and just keep digging the hole even deeper with the eventual intent of burying it in obsoletion. PvP is the unwanted stepchild of XIV, and I'm really feeling it :')
