Seeing as how no one is actually being helpful to you, try this thread: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...ced-%28Bard%29
I don't actually play Brd, so I'm mostly clueless on what's happening here. All I know is what buffs to look for when the Brd is prepping the burst (which I learned by asking someone else in that thread). I'm hoping that, since you actually play Brd, you might be able to make some more sense out of it then I can. Good luck.
I don't play bard, but I get killed by bard burst a ton! Bard is all about doing a ton of damage in 3s every 90s.
(Before burst) Put your dots up on two people, you don't want to make it too obvious who you are bursting. Make sure you refresh straight shot too.
WM>Raging (if up)> hawk eye> b4b (if not being focused)> barrage
(Burst, on target with dots, this is the roll you face part)
Emp arrow>sidewinder>farshot>spam misery's end
If you crit it'll do 10k+ damage in like 3 seconds.
Practice this on a dummy a bunch, now you can bard! Don't forget to use your PvP ability 'manasong' on your healers, we like when you do that.
Study this. Watch the bard, their buffs, and skill order. This is all you need to know.

In general you want to treat Brd burst kind of how you do in PvE. Barrage + Buff + Emp. The interesting part of bursting is being able to understand the dmg you will potentially deal. Yes, bards can snipe people but sometimes you get a healer that is aware of your burst or a tank that will stun lock you. At that point you should allocate enough to finish someone off, assuming the melee is good and weakened the opponent..... Or you have a melee that can act as a finisher.
You shouldn't stick to a particular burst rotation because some people watch for your buffs. So just mess around with dealing dmg by various means. So that you can use the basic bard burst but then switch it up depending on how much you want the healer to cry.
TL;DR
Remember the A, B, C's of your burst and expand upon it in your own way.
It's also important to know your maximum damage range. You can go to Wolf Den pier and spam one skill like Heavy Shot on a trainning dummy from different ranges, and you'll notice how less damage you do after exactly 15 yalms. With WM up you'll do the same damage at 0-15y, but without it at point blank the damage is very low, mediocre at 15y and low again at higher range.
The burst with all buffs up without lucky crits damages around 70-80% HP bar so never do it on anyone with full HP, because it'll give a healer a second or two to react and heal. But if you are bursting the healer, immediatelly after triple Empyreal Arrow+Sidewinder+Farshot use Blunt Arrow, 1 second silence will also give time to fit in fast Mysery and Bloodletter for a guaranteed finisher.
Do not burst anyone when attuned (know it's icon), when anyone stands on greenish Sacred Prism, when someone is covered (know it's icon), when there's tank LB or Testudo in action (know their icons).
Ranged LB is usually wasted, the best use for it it's probably after enemy healer dies and their team runs back to base, pick a target with 50% HP, Shadowbind it and LB quickly.
Don't worry Koltik, Az is teaching me how to BRD. I don't wanna play BLM anymore if their Sleep get nerfed. :c
You know that in the feast bursts and kills matter more, right? I could easily pad 300-400k damage on SMN with Bane and Shadowflares, and DoTs hitting all people accumulate to a nice damage over match, but if there are no kills and all that slow, fluffed damage is easily healable so there's no much point to it. After nerfs it doesn't even stress a healer anymore. Meanwile on bard I can do only 115k damage in 8 minutes but 3 surprise burst kills which is usually enough to win, and in the end it's all that matters.
As a warrior playing feast, I spam overpower, got to get that damage up.
Bard has a lot of good aoe atk, spam them all, put up your dots on multiple foes.
You should apply your dots on everyone not for damage up on the final score but for Bloodletter resets. So you can burst more. You can even apply them without minuet just for that.
This. You can apply dots to everyone without minute, then refresh them all with Iron Jaws while spamming Bloodletter on your main target. If you get good enough at it, you can keep 4 sets of dots up allowing you to literally spam Bloodletter all day. This is what a Bard should be doing when they don't have their main bnb burst combo. A bard that isn't breaking 170k+ damage, isn't doing their job.
Thanks for the info guys. Makes me want to Bard more in feast. I played Summoner the most in 4 on 4.
Who are you again?
Checked both current and last season and I don't see you.
Smn is the king of pressure if played well. Whm in particular struggles to keep up with the amount of damage rolling on all targets and can be forced into using precious cool downs, that would have otherwise prevented your sneaky burst, if the healer had any awareness of what your class is capable of and at what interval.
The same can be said for Brd. If they keep their dots up on multiple targets their burst can only be prevented by a tank that is watching their buffs or a sleep from blm or whm.
Burst obviously is where you will gain the most ground on a healer when you are trying to kill one of their team mates but to say that "fluff damage" is pointless is foolish.
Just adding to I'sau argument about Malady spam too on SMN pressure. And the constant pressure of BRD dots can be a mindgame for Purify waste also let you just turn on whoever you want to Windbite and burst down. So the "fluff" damage in the end is adding to your burst.
I think I ended Season 1 with 800 score, couldn't get higher because started late and ques were dead by that point. But I've played SMN extensively both before and after nerfs, and now switched to a bard for better bursts. Less overall damage, more kills:

You see, with only 100k damage you can do 5 bursts=kills and win a match, you don't really need 240k of fluffed damage for this.
How do you do like no damage as brd? Do you just afk when your burst is down. Ive seen a DRG get 6kills and only amount to 70k damage, because he only ever went after last hitting like Frontlines, Top-Notch. Also that healer has 0 medals, and only died once. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm...
I still don't understand how 100k dps is acceptable as bard. Even if you are bursting correctly it's not hard to avg between 160-200k per match. The only time i have hit 100k is if the melee I'm with rekts the other team and we end the match early. If you aren't keeping up with sustained damage on the opposing team then you aren't playing bard optimally. By having constant damage and lucky crits you can have a healer waste cd's and when you're actual burst is up they may have a harder time trying to heal.
Everyone plays how they want to play but what separate's a manageable bard from a scary bard is that "fluff" dps.

Some matches from weeks ago. Notice my avg kill rate with whm as opposing healer. When scholar is opposing healer i have more assists because I can set up a kill but harder to one shot by yourself IF the healer is good.
Oh look one of the scariest summoners on primal makes their cameo!
I can definitely state from experience healing the damage that comes from Az is definitely more stressful than healing a bard that doesn't see the point in pressuring the healer even if it can be healed seemingly "easily". The stress isn't just placed on you by making you choose your gcds carefully, but also forces you to burn through your mana and potentially some pretty important cooldowns in order to keep up. Heaven forbid that someone messes up the cc resist on the bard on top of all that so you cannot prevent their burst anymore.
Simply focus targeting a bard as a tank or healer is all you need to do to prevent most bards burst.
Straight shot, ven, wind, minuet, buff, barrage, emp, sidewinder, bloodletter, blunt, farshot. I find this to work well if I don't already have my dots up as they are instacast before minuet is up plus if they try to los u. U can still chase and attack before going minuet bombarding on them.
Generally you only want to apply DoTs with Minuet on, however dropping WM to apply DoTs is a better choice in two scenarios. The person you are about to burst is running and you have a limited window to kill them. The other time this is good is if you have dots on someone else already and if your healer is trying to pay attention to your bursts you can DoT other ppl without WM on so they dont know who you are about to focus down.
Also if you are going to turn WM off to apply DoT's try to have 1 buff up at least before you apply new DoT. Tanks look for when you are using a buff because they assume the next skill is barrage + emp or whatever. So that if you are stun locked until the end of time it would have been during a time when you were just applying a DoT (which happens A LOT).
Anyone knows how exactly The Warden's Paean works in pvp? It cannot be used when you are stunned like Purify, but it certainly removes one debuff like Sleep from a healer. But I've notcied if I apply it on myself before the burst I'm still getting stunned with it's icon still up, so its secondary effect doesn't always work.
So many stuck up ass *who are you again?* people in the room tonight. Oh my~ Whatever. What Cool Boy's saying is actually a valid point. Matches can EASILY be ended/ won with a brd output of 115-20k, provided said brd is on target with his bursts. Is 150-60k nicer? Yes it is, but not needed (and no brd on primal..least matches Ive been in with has 'consistantly' broken 240k lololol.150-90 meibe, 200+..someone needs to learn to communicate targets better.) The multi-DoT concept is definitely sound but one also has to take into account how much the pillars come into play verses the majority of the match being in dead center, since Iron Jaws needs WM for use and can be screwed with constant adjustment by pillars/ partitions.
Either way, its the burst/kills that are of utmost importance far as brd is concerned. If he/she can deliver those to the correct target -healer/ less than full health 4-5stacked tank etc- thats whats needed over all else. The extra damage in between just looks good on paper.
