New right side gear: not worth it?

The entire iron works right side will get you a whopping 8 more CP than the previous BiS. Caps on craftsmanship and control are a little higher, but it will take some really hardcore melding to make use of that. It's a lot of Gil for what seems to be very little stats.

My 170 accessories are already melded with max CP, 7 control, and 6 craftsmanship. If I had cheaped out more on those melds, I might be more inclined to do the new stuff.

I suppose we won't really know if these are needed until we see the new stat requirements. My strategy so far has been to try to max things as much as possible on the left side and spend the Gil on grade 5 for the guaranteed slots there where it has made sense.

As this is the final set for this game and we'll probably wait almost a year for the new "chimerical felt/hallowed chestnut" set, If you have a lot of money, it's definitely worth it. It's only takes one V overmeld.

Not if nothing you make comes even close to needing it. Which is the case, at least for now.

If I recall correctly, we needed 473 CP to put in an extra Precise Touch in some rotations before, but the CP cap with the old i170 crafted set and Seafood Stew HQ was 472 CP, just one CP short. With the new gear, we can achieve that CP threshold with max melded gear and HQ Baked Onion Soup or Seafood Stew (478 to 480 CP).

More CP (and higher Craftsmanship) lets you craft a lot of recipes with just macros at the moment. The possibility of being able to use an extra Precise Touch/Basic Touch/Standard Touch/Innovation/Ingenuity II with more CP makes HQ crafting more reliable with less starting quality needed.

If you take into account that this new set is not specific to any single crafter class, you'd see that it's cheaper than buying gear for all of your crafting classes as well as being "better." I'm not deep enough into crafting to really make use of this set yet, but I'm planning on getting money and jumping straight into an HQ version of this set soon.

All accessories are shared so it's technically a lot cheaper to get the i170 versions. But I'd say it's worth getting the Ironworks accessories since 4 stars will likely benefit from the extra CP. Plus, these won't be replaced for a whole year or so.

it's worth it,can pop a cheap CP43 food whenever I want and reach 473 cp to use all the important rotations ( some with 2 x cp18 to spare )

The 170 set of accessories was only 13 CP over the dirt cheap starter accessories. 170 was a whole lot more expensive a month after they came out than the ironworks set is now. They were probably more expensive a couple weeks before 3.3 came out than ironworks are now.

Just to be clear, I am not one bit concerned about the cost of making the item. I'm concerned about the cost of the melds. To do significantly better than what I already have melded into my 170 (8cp, 7 control, 6 crafts), I would be looking at over melding tier 5 material into slot #2 and/or melding tier 4 into slot #5.

That's the exact same case there was against maxing 170 accessories. For the neck/ear/wrist, you either needed V + IVx4, or Vx2 on them to cap out stats. V materia was much more expensive then.

Stat Caps:
i55 - 20/20/134
140 - 32/32/193 (Craft 1 below cap on a couple, due to no V melds)
170 - 45/40/210
190 - 50/45/218

There has never been a huge boost from upgrading accessories, especially if you max melded the previous set. This set, right now, is much cheaper to max meld than the last set was 6 months after it came out.

T5 Materia are still pricey enough that overmelding with them is something that can put people off. T4 Materia, however, are so readily enough available that overmelding slot 5 with them should not be a concern. You can get 3 per day doing Ixali beast tribe tasks. You can get 9 per week from Red Tokens (if you have nothing else to use those Red Scrip on). Not to mention that most means of SB'ing for T5 Materia result In a lot more T4 Materia.

I never made the i170 accessories, so making and melding i190 is definitely worthwhile for me.. And considering how long I used my ARR accessories (still using them on DoL, only upgraded to hit 2* on DoH), I find melding 1 T5 + 4 T4 worthwhile.

Did they not hint at new accessories coming in 3.4? If so, they'll probably be scrip items & unmeldable anyway. We've still possibly 8-12 months before 4.0 drops so I wouldn't be surprised if a higher level catch-up set drops that doesn't require melding to manage most crafts.

However, like most FFXIV content, it constantly evolves!

Yes, there will be new accessories in 3.4. They will require red scrips, and be equal to the HQ ironworks. Problem is, they won't have any meld slots.

Nope, wear them while crafting hundreds of worthless 2* items for spirit bonding. IIRC each crafting class had one useless recipe and it took like 300 crafts to 100% SB. I can no longer find the forum thread which detailed this information as it has been aged out / deleted.

It IS worth it. I have meld everything to the top (yes even over melding V) cause this is the last set until we get a new one ine June next year. The only thing I haven't craft is all the MH or OH cause im using the new scrips for them.

I don't know some of those i170 is it, HQ are really not that much behind in stats over the ironworks gear, to me the cost for a few extra points does not justify them, but i can see those of you who actually do alot of crafting it would be beneficial to go all out with ironworks.

It's actually pretty simple, if you need/want 430 CP for a certain rotation its worth it, otherwise its not. From my experience i've been using a 426CP one, so im skipping hte MH personally, but you could prob skip the two Rings, since the increase maxmelded is 1/1/1, bringing you down to 428. I would definetly NOT skip bracelet, earring and necklace, since 6CP makes a huge difference between beeing able to use a certain rotation or not.

Well I certainly don't see any point in melding the tools with 5 Grade V materia. You would need hundreds of materia, and hundreds more still if you were unlucky. Anything else is worth it though.

I thought the scrip tools had no CP, which means you are losing 8 CP by using those over the crafted ones.

While I'm normally a proponent of future-proofing by melding to the max, I have to admit that the costs vs gains for maxing out accessories just aren't worth it. Adding a Tier V overmeld will gain you a grand total of THREE more Control, compared to just using Tier IVs.

Rings: Craft V (11/10), CP IV (4/4), Control III (3/9), Control III (6/9), Control III (9/9)
Ear/Neck/Wrist: Craft V (11/10), CP IV (4/8), CP IV (8/8), Control IV (4/9), Control IV (8/9)

It's difficult to imagine that that three control is going to make enough of an impact to justify the average FIVE Tier V's you'd lose trying to Overmeld the second slot.

Again, using nothing but a single Tier V per accessory, along with Tier III and IV overmelds, you can reach the caps for accessories, minus three control.

That's if you put a Crafts V on first. If you start with a Control V, you can cap without overmelding any V.

Really? How so? What meld will cap out Craft 10, Control 9, CP 8, with only five materia, starting with a Control V? I'm pretty sure my math is right, but I'll be happy to stand corrected if you have a solution. Remember that Craft V provides 11 Craftsmanship, Control V provides 7 Control, and CP V provides 6 CP.

I dunno, I used the i55 accessories until 2 star crafting in heavensward, will likely do the same with the ironworks set, to save on short term replaceable upgrades while leveling and gearing out at max after next expansion. The investment now to get accessories I can use for a year plus seems worth it to me.

I swore there was a way, but looking at them now it's not there. It must have been drunk math, and I'm too sober to see it now. Maybe after a few drinks I'll be able to convince myself that 7=9.

The 10% on that one CP IV is gonna hurt, but at least you're not overmelding Vs anywhere.

The craft+11 meld the bracelet is an overmeld, which will hurt much more than the 10% CP+4 one lol.
Sadly, you do need one T5 overmeld to reach cap on bracelet, earring, necklace.

Doh, I derped as well, I forgot that accessories only have 1 guaranteed slot unlike the left side pieces. And to think the percentage was right there in my face.

It's "justifiable" because you'll likely still use them while leveling to 70, and a small bit after that, so they easily got a year worth of "life expectancy" before you get ride of them.
Justifiable to do it here and now? I'm not too sure the way materias prices drop down, there will be a smooth point to do it the cheapest. The issue is spotting when :p

There does come a point when you meet all the stat requirements to make stuff and are able to make it HQ reliably. At that point, the benefit of a dozen or two points of craftsmanship/control is negligible. When that point coincides with when you need to do really expensive melds to get those additional stats, the cost/benefit ratio looks pretty bad. I know some people keep going, but at that point I just call it good enough and stop spending my Gil.

Honestly, if you're willing to pray to the RNG gods, you can get away with some rather low stats and still make 3* gear without much fuss. I've gotten away with 391 CP on the craft simulator. You just need high quality. I feel that's a better investment until Materia V prices come down a little.

My goal is to craft the Ironworks accessories, but hold off on melding them and just use my fully-melded i170s until four-stars come out and I can see what is needed. Gives me time to stockpile materia, too.

Not sure if this is the best approach, but it's the one I'll be taking for now.
