Subtitles are coming later as with part I.

They could do live-cover subtitles, they do it in the news all the time.

How does CNN do live-cover subtitles? How is that even possible?

The best they could do is dub it live, but I'm happy enough to read the Twitter feed.

It's standard practice in broadcasting to operate on a delay. So even things that are "live" happened 2-5 minutes prior by the time they're seen.

These delays allow for things like censoring, closed captioning and, if needed, subtitled translations.

Yep, that's what I thought. Nothing "live" about that.

Either way we aren't getting the vid with subs any sooner. All we would do is block the original broadcast from JP's until the subs were completed.

i even saw two subtitled words being backspaced on the news the other day. they were super quick about it but man that has got to be a pretty stressful job as im sure the typists are only allowed so many mistakes.

I read the recap posted by the reps, but where did you guys find a subtitled version. The one on the ffxiv youtube channel seems to not be subtitled.

It has youtube's internal subs. I think you need to press the cc button if it doesn't start automatically.

I'm in the same boat. I'm happy the people of Japan get to connect with Yoshida in such am innovative way, but watching tweetdeck just isn't worth getting out of bed for.

There are special keyboards optimized for fast typing, but they require about a year of training to be able to use at all.

The thread in question is in regards to subtitles being given with the broadcast, which is why I gave a smartass response. TBH they could just as easily use their own forums, but they pick a completely separate medium altogether. Way to go SE.

Twitter auto-updates, the forums do not. A bit more inconvenient to have to keep refreshing the page to catch posted questions.

In Canada, where we have two official languages, the news media is always prepared with live voice-over translators who speak over what the speaker (usually a politician) is saying if they switch languages mid-speech (which happens frequently).

It's certainly possible to have 3 translators for French, German, and English to do the same thing for these live episodes.

sure.. but not on forums. is not design to do so and is best that way.

refreshing a whole forum be silly lol twitter feed can be intregrated into websites which I do at pads, and if you ask a question it will be in english so you can spot your answer easily.

I duno why its has to be live, they should pre-record it, have the questions asked on a thread on each of the forums and then translate and sub it accordingly.

Certainly isn't worth watching live if you can't speak/understand Japanese.

Do you realize that the only difference between live and pre-record is that the live version of the pre-record is never shown?

You aren't losing out on anything when it is broadcast live. Getting the pre-record version out will take exactly as long as it does now. Only this time, JP's don't have to wait for their version needlessly (and we don't have to wait for a rough outline needlessly either).

Surprised they aren't making more effort considering how disappointed we were with the last one.

So they're supposed to hire a skilled stenographer that can fluently translate from Japanese to English on-the-fly? Do you realize how incredibly silly that sounds for something that isn't going to happen very often?

I will not be waking up at 7am to watch this unless we get official word that there will be some form of translation, even if it a little bit behind, we have had live subtitles for the past 20+ years, so i'm sure SE can do it, lets not forget all GMs are bilingual in either English, Japanese, German or French that could translate on the fly, and lets not forget thier localisation teams whos job it is to translate Japanese to the other supported languages.

Live subtitles or a live dub based on language (seperate vids for each language of course) should be no problem for a company like SE, we NEED some confirmation after the last mass disapointment which is the vid, live subs are really old so we need it done.

Of course I'm serious, if the translation is 30s out of sync who gives a damn, as I said the technology is over 20 years old (anyone from atleast the UK remember 888 teletext page, which gave live subtitles, even on live shows before the 90s)

It is not beyond SE's capabilities, so they should get prepared for it, and thanks for choosing my post to base your troll on.

We got a live translation last time and it was generally 1-2 questions behind.

The technology is there, doesn't mean SE has the human resources to pull it off. This is a special occasion and not something to be expected every month. Even if they hired someone temporarily he has no idea about the slang used, only the localization team does.

I hope that they can make the translation process more efficient this time, last time there seemed to be some hickups at the beginning. In either case other than that they don't really have the means to make it better without screwing over some people.

We got translations of the questions, what every none japanese speaking player and follower wants is a live translation of the whole video, which I'm sure the localisation team could handle with the right equipment, in this case a dub 30s -1min behind the live feed will probably be easier than subs which as I said they have the staff to do, if its beyond the skills of the localisation team then they can't do thier jobs.

I'd rather have a late but accurate translations than live but inaccurate translations that might cause a sudden rage.

Some people will truly complain about anything

The irony is people complained about them doing live translations during the Vanafest because it was also delayed via twitter (because said localization/community team were going as fast as they could.)

The technology is there, but likewise western game studios don't employ it for eastern audiences, it's usually subbed/dubbed after the fact.
