I have no reason to think you keep the materia because the i230 and i240 simply aren't the same item in the database.
Also, I have big problems in seeing why I should spend, just for the accessories, about 4 millions total in Strength Vs when I can spend 60k for IVs and have a mere 18 AP difference or so, out of 850+.
If some people want to call me "gimp" or whatever, all the more power for them but I'd invest that gil into power-leveling my crafts instead. That's just me though.
There's nothing to suggest that you'll keep the materia. In a technical sense, the gear isn't "upgraded" at all—in terms of the database, you're exchanging two items for another item (that just happens to have the same model). That other item won't have any Materia socketed to it.
I'm going to meld IVs on my 230 gear and save my Vs for the 240 stuff, personally.
The materia is lost in the process. One of our groups has cleared A6S and discovered this during an accessory upgrade. Not that it comes as much of a surprise but can confirm.
IV Materia is also available from Beast Tribe Quests now, not sure why you would buy?
I have been stocking up Quicktongue and also Savage Might Materia
When you "upgrade" these gears, it actually is a trading and not upgrading. So your materias will be gone.
You lose the materia. However it is easy to get materia for lore gear. Beast tribe give out materia IV and you can get materia V from Diadem or the weekly item trade from Void Ark.
Even if I do Void Ark and Diadem, I'd rather sell the materias I got. Putting 300-700k worth of materias in Midas or vanilla lore gears would be a waste in like 2-3 weeks later.
They should allow us to remove materias from gears.
The ARR beast tribes that give IV don't give it until like rank 5 or higher
Which, for someone like me who hasn't done any of the ARR beast tribes, it would take me well over a month just to get to the point where I could start getting IV
In that time I'll have already needed the materia a long time ago
Gimp would be if you were to meld something like skill speed. If anyone says you're gimping yourself by saving money their are plain stupid.
The only people that NEED to meld 5s are those going for world first and hell they may clear it before even needing that gear.
lore gear wont be upgradeable anytime soon.... u need midas savage drop (1 / week) so using Mat V is ok , outside Midas turn 1 drops that are bis instead of lore gear...
anyway from IV to V there is only 3 points ...in right side that has only 1 slot ... but left side however has 2 slots
How do you get lore tomestones ?
With the lore gear, has anyone come across if they are capped for melding? As in I want to get the Hailstorm chest-piece and want to add more Mind to it, can I do that and if so will I hit a cap before I run out of slots? (I ask this because I don't do a lot of crafting and want to make sure I have the right materia for someone to meld it for me)
This really shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who has had dealings with materia in the past. For every major piece of gear, the primary stat materia (strength, vitality, mind etc) is at its maximum value by default. In fact, the only exception to this is some NQ gear, where you can meld main stat materia only up to the value of the HQ gear.
Combine this with the fact that main-stat materia can no longer be used in forbidden melds and it's basically worthless these days.
Thank you both for the info. ^_^ It keeps me from making a mistake in what I am saving up for to add to the gear. It also makes me wonder if it is even worth it to add the materia to it though as it takes quite a bit of any secondary stat to really have much an effect compared to the main stat. I mean it would take adding the same secondary stat to each piece to really have a noticeable difference right?
Greetings,
When you upgrade Allagan tomestone of lore gear, you turn in the original piece of gear (with materia attached) in exchange for a brand-new piece of gear which means that any materia melded to that gear will be lost in the exchange.
That really depends on how you look at it. The difference can't be so big that you're essentially required not only to meld all of your gear, but to specifically meld it for DPS. There are options. It takes approximately 43 crit to increase your critical hit rate (and damage) by about 1%. That's a bit more often than every 5 savage aim IV and close to every 3.5 savage aim V.
To shave .01 seconds off your GCD you'd need ~26.5 skill/spell speed (about 3 tier IV materia or slightly more than 2 tier V). This can be useful for potentially fitting in another attack during a buff duration or requiring just a bit less time to cast before dodging, etc.
You could, of course, use some materia slots as a safety net by adding VIT. Sure people will tell you that it's unnecessary and not at all optimal, but it's an option. Piety might also work out for some jobs and healers can certainly benefit from accuracy if they want to DPS. I'm not really sure about DET at this point, but I don't think it's nearly as potent as it used to be (pre-3.0).
Only if you are a billionare or someone who does diadem 2 times a day xD
Its 18 slots or more. You really need a hell of a time and still people may have to buy some ones.
Only super rich players will be able to get and throw materia V like it was nothing..
ADVICE: grade IV savage aim gives 9 and V gives 12, thats nothing. Use the IV until you upgraded to 240
I think I'll still use those V or IV on the gear as considering it's so easy to obtain now, although it's kinda annoying, it wouldn't be too difficult to meld them with the same materia again.
Was hoping it would stay put upon upgrade :/
