Like I get that it was long before HW but it would be reeeeeeally cool to have Zantetsuken as a greatsword.

Not sure how the programming works for it. Right now it's a Paladin weapon, would they have to take it away from PLD to be able to add it to DRK?
I would be on board with this. Honestly, I was nerding out really hard about all the jobs getting Odin-themed/Zantetsuken-like weapons when they added the Odin Primal battle...I'm still holding out for an Odin EX that might have weapon drops. I want Zantetsuken daggers. ;;
If it were available as a reward for 5 cloaks from the Odin FATE it would become a bit more popular again.
+1
I still have mantles and nothing to do with them since I already bought everything. I'd love a DRK version of the sword.
I think if they made a new Odin EX battle to continue the Quest that having Norse Mythology themed weapons would be awesome.
Not just Odin's weapons (Gungir and Zantetsuken) but other Aseir weapons as well. Maybe re rease the PLD blade as Shin-Zantetsuken instead since Zantetsuken is already a fate reward.
Well, It actually is a one handed sword and wouldn't fit zweihander type jobs.
A large number of pre-HW DRK weapons are just scaled up versions of one-handed swords. Most of their primal weapons, their Allagan weapons, and their tomestone weapons are all just big versions of the corresponding PLD weapons. There are a number of them among the leveling swords as well.
I'd like it. Think I asked for something similar and someone said it'd be problematic since it'd look weird to have some handle sticking out your back, so I drew what it would look like sheathed (somewhat):
Srry for the low level drawing, haven't been grinding lately XD
But yeah they could work around the handle thing.
Note: It could stay looking like a katana, I just don't know how to draw those properly.
You said the one-handed sword wouldn't work for a job that uses zweihanders, but they've already been using one-handed swords as two-handed swords since DRK was introduced, so that's not a very good argument against the inclusion of a Zantetsuken upscale for DRK. Odin's mythological origins don't have anything to do with that in any way.
Yes, it does. All of the FFXIV in house products (weapons from primals for example) have no external source to keep consistent with. If they had made Midgardsomr in the game that looked like a chicken then it would be seemingly awkward (he also adheres to his Norse Mythology counterpart).
shouldn't need to make it larger. just give it a longer handle and it's good with it's current blade length.
on an unrelated note, drgs need a gungnir
semantics, one-handed swords like the ones in final fantasy are often referred to as "hand and a half swords"
they are light enough to be used one handed with a shield, or held in both hands.
if we wanted to get technical, we could even give warriors swords that have been reversed so that the blade is being used as a grip.
I'll take Thordan's sword. He's the best DRK ever.
Zantetsuken actually isn't from any mythology.
First it's actually three words. Zan Tetsu Ken. Ken being the generic term for blade in japanese, Tetsu meaning Iron, and Zan roughly meaning cutting or cutter. So it means "Iron-Cutting Blade" in english with Shin-Zantetsuken meaning True Iron Cutting Blade. And is any of several near mythical historical katana that were able to cut (or more likely break) another Katana's blade on contact.
Odin was said in game to have taken Zantetsuken as a war prize from an Eastern Auri Warrior he defeated who had the honor of being the first to actually damage his armor. So presumably The Gungnir Lance (Odin's Spear in Mythology) would have been his weapon prior to him obtaining the Zantetsuken.
Hmm, I just remembered that Yojimbo from FF10 has a large weapon with the same ability The "Zanmato". Perhaps the scaled up blade could be called Zanmato.
Odin is a good guy. It'll be Paladin's sword.
I think it was Sigurd that drew Bram from the Ash Tree and Sigmund, son of Sigurd, reforges Gram's broken blade into the Balmung/Nothung. But there's a lot of contradiction between Celtic and Scandinavian mythogy on Arthur and Sigmund even though they apear in both.
Would personally like to see a weapon for each job from Behemoth/Odin, Behemoths is nearly there with a quite a few of the highest tier pvp weapons being themed around him.
Zantetsuken for each job could be explained by it taking the form most suited to whomever wields it.
I'm actually surprised at the amount of attention this has garnered. I was half-expecting trollish comments like hurr durr who cares old content or something.
This would actually be a good way to bring some life back to these old FATE's I feel. I hope the community representatives are reading this.
It may as well be added, all the 2.0 tokens, tomes and so on swords for DRK are just bigger versions of PLD swords...which is why some of them look weird as anything lol.
