Suggestion to prevent Hotbar explosion in 4.0.

Well theres so many weaponskills and combos with 4.0 everyones hotbars will explode.
So a simple solution came to my mind.
You could simple just reduce all combo weaponskills into one button. As example the Ninja Aeolian Edge combo is just one button that switches after every weaponskill.
Sure you have then just to spam only one button for the whole combo but its not much different then spaming 3 buttons 1 after another and it would save 2 hotbar spots.
I know you could macro it know into one button mow but it doesnt work with Skill queus and also doesnt check if a skill whent throu succesfully.
Also a option to put several OCDs, into one button and be able to arrange the order in wich they get activated could help the button bloat.

Edit 1: Everyone saying we should only get new traits for existing abilitys, forgett about it, it whont happen. There will be new skills and new combos and maybe new traits as well. Also its a terrible idea to not have new skills and combos in 4.0 wehere also the level cap increases so forgett it in here and maybe make a new threat of your own if you whant that.

Edit 2: Of course, comboing your skills as one button to the hotbar is a optional way to set up your skills. And nothing that changes much at all just a QoL change.

Edit 3: Shikiseki mentioned something about stance skills like on warrior, or SMN DT/DF. Things like Innerbeats/fellcleave should change automaticly based on active stance, and should not rely on use macros.

Instead of pressing
SE>GS>DE>SE>SF>M>SE>GS>AE>SE>GS>AC
wich needs 7 hotbar slots

you had to press

(DEC = Dancing edge Combo ect.)ect
DEC>DEC>DEC>SFC>SFC>M>AEC>AEC>AEC>ACC>ACC>ACC
wich is the same ammount or presses but only needs 5 Hotbar slots

Or they can give us traits instead of more abilities.

I'd prefer we see traits adding to lesser used abilities for the 60-70 range.

For (very rough) example, SCH may get

62: Aetherdam IV. Allows the stacking of up to four Aetherflows.
64: Enhance Sacred Soil. Increased mitigation up to 15%, grants haste while inside. Cost 2 aetherflow.
66: Enhance Energy Drain. Increases damage to 200, and drains one buff from the enemy granting it to yourself. Cost 2 aetherflow.
68: Enhanced Pet Action II. 20% chance of increasing critical hit damage by 20% when pet deals critical damage.
70: New ability.

Not as terrible as turning a rotational skillset into literally clicking one number on your keyboard 3 times over.

Traits can be interesting if done right, and that's what I'm looking for, interesting traits. For example "Dream Within a Dream has a small chance to proc every critical strike, resetting its cooldown" or the like.

Depends, they could add traits which significantly change existing abilities. Why, for example, give Dark Knight an additional DoT similar to Circle of Scorn, when you can instead have "Enhanced Dark Passenger: Applies DoT with a potency of whatever for whatever".

I'd actually like to see new abilities though, or rather "new" abilities. Rather than going "I'll set Second Wind on Ninja", I'd rather have a quest that just gives me my own version of Second Wind (NPC Ninjas had their own healing skill I forget the name of), perhaps slightly different to Second Wind itself. The whole concept of sub-class skills seems fairly pathetic at this point. I'd like to see options to give some degree of customization (inb4 "people will just do what's best"), but sub-class skills is not the place for it... Sub-class options don't really add anything meaningful, I'd rather use those slots for Gathering skills in all honesty, then I can know when nodes are up while on combat Jobs.

A Job like Ninja is in the perfect position though; Slap an additional effect on something like Dream within a Dream, which works somewhat similar to Kassatsu, and you've got potential to double our Ninjutsu repertoire. Alternatively just make it so Ten Chi is Raiton, for example, and Jin Chi is something new.

there is not only 1 combo and we will get new combos as well so it wont be like you spam the same button all the time.

I say we get upgrade to our same existing skills, different animation, higher potency, new or different additional effects maybe ? for an exmaple

True trust > Vorpal Thrust > Full Thrust. combo will be something like True Trust II >> Vorpal Thrust II > Full Thrust II
we just have to replace the old combo icons with the new ones.

so nothing changes just new icons and mabye higher potency as you get to the new level cap every clas plays the same as before, whats the point of raising the level cap then ?

different animations as well, ofc some new skills but im talking about the main combos

They could just revise and see which abilities are never used and remove them in place of new ones. things like swiftsong, binding arrow (used in pvp i know but could easily be made a pvp skill to free up room)

no..... the fact that ffxiv still has less buttons then space games like star trek online simply mean make some macros and all that if your lazy as currently unmacroed STO is more buttons than unmacroed FFXIX the way it is right now...

You dont need to add times in your macro

A macro had to be able to qeue skills and check if they whent throu and then change the icon and the skill, i think it would be smarter and easier if we could just hotbar the whole combo instead of making a makro for everey combo ourself. Also there are allready to few macro slots, so for many that wouldnt be possible.

The queue time makes macros practically useless, especially with the lack of queuing up skills with those macros. But FFXIV does have few buttons, but I'm playing a Ninja and they're relatively simple. About 2.5 bars of abilities, some of which don't even need to be there for regular content (Mantra, Kiss of the Wasp, Shukuchi, etc). I suppose if you're coming from Guild Wars 2, or WoW nowadays it might be a bit much.

The answer is we needs more buttons.

I'm kind of curious, what new skills could even be added to the game at this point? Some Jobs have obvious choices, because four songs does not a Bard make, but how would you even give tanks and healers new skills, without further homogenizing them? They've already got all the tools they really need, what could possibly be added which couldn't just be a trait (why add Hard Slash II at all, when you can just have "Enhanced Hard Slash" as a trait?).

Call me crazy, but wouldn't it be a better use of time and resources, to create entirely new Jobs, rather than changing them all up again? Wouldn't it be better to have an expansion based around quality Lv60 content, rather than work on forgettable 61-70 content that we'll moan about when the next Relic forces us to grind it? Do they have to raise the cap every expansion?

In Guild Wars 2, they have a combo system also but one icon button will change to the next combo button saving space on the action bar, they could steal that.

Sounds silly but would feel very "un Final Fantasy" if the level cap was never raised to 99.

They should probably just do this if only to give idiots less excuses... People who just spam the final skill in their combo, completely unaware of how combos work, would be unable to be quite so terrible with such a system...

Perhaps, but what was ever the point of Lv99? There was no content for that level, and for the most part, skills weren't tied to level... Kain played exactly the same at Lv1 as he did at Lv99.

I kind of wish they'd kept Physical/Skill levels... That would have been very Final Fantasy, shame 1.0s implementation left something to be desired... Physical Levels could raise over time, while Skill Levels remain mostly the same, they'd just implement new Jobs to raise Skill Level in. I mean, Heavensward took existing Jobs, rebalanced them and added effectively 50 new skills (disregarding the new Jobs); That's enough skills for two whole Jobs at Lv50. Would I rather have an extra DoT combo on Paladin, or finally get Red Mage? Hard choice.

Actually instead they should make another promotion class with all new skills, since it already has that in the game.

Gladiator > Paladin > New job class

Have old paladin saved for old macros and old content while your new job is for high level junk.

Though what I would love SE to do is let just change jobs in dungeons if they are in the same job class.

Example would be.

Paladin can change to warrior or dark knight since they are all tank classes but cannot change to anything else or cannot change if the level isn't high enough for that dungeon.

or

Just make add onto the existing abilities and skills and make new animation like a upgrade to your weapon skills and abilities but in old content new stuff is locked and do old animation and what it used to do.

A promotion class is not a bad idea but maybe people wouldnt like to be forced to play that promotion class in endgame and play rather the beloved class. Also it may not work very well from a balance and gameplay standpoint.

I think WAR dealt with the skill bloat the best - Having 2 of the 5 new attacks be only usable in a certain stance so you can replace those with a macro by simply switching your stance.
SMN can do something similar by replacing Ruin with Ruinga during dreadwyrm trance and deathflare (you can easily replace Trance with Flare with a macro too, then turn it back to trance once either 10s are up or you hit the flare button).
I'd like to see new skills though, with some passives along the way cause let's be honest.... having no new skills once you reach 70 is really lame.

Yes i aggree, the game should do this automaticly , shouldnt have to do a macro for it.

We're probably going to get a lot more stances and buffs that create "optional" playstyles, and new abilities limited to those. Sort of like how Warrior received Deliverance in 3.0, with two skills that require deliverance. Warrior went from having one stance to having two.

Bard and machinist now have one stance, and could easily receive "movement" stances with new abilities related to those. That would create the option of stationary dps or movement dps.

Black Mage could receive an alternative to enochain, perhaps one that focuses more heavily on their firestarter and thundercloud procs. Summoner could receive an alternative to dreadwyrm, monk could receive an alternative to their charges (maybe one that works better in mid-combat with off-gcd activation), and so on.

I can't really see them adding MORE to current dps rotations given how complex some of them are becoming, so alternative rotations that are situational makes more sense.

More traits please, and "tweaks".

Tweaks would be things that instead enhance a cross class skill, and add additional effects to it from the job that's using it...so Mercy Stroke for Monk might give 5 stacks of chakra if you time it right for example...and so on and so forth.

Or maybe just give all classes moves like summoner's TriDisaster where it's essentially a combo in one button.

you still need your single dots on the hotbar,
