there are a multitude of things that can bring your score down, without knowing what brand and model of graphics card/motherboard/Ram/Processor you have, it's hard to inform you on how to improve your system.
You don't need an amazing setup for this game though, pretty much any mid tier gaming system can ace it.
i got geforce gtx 660 ti three gigbits
my processor is 6 core i got 8 gigbites of memory
asus sabertooth version 2.0
don't get R9 2xx series if you want to play in DX11. The latest drivers did not resolve the crashes .....
go with the NVidia 970 gtx mid priced but works real well. 980 is hardly any better so not worth the extra cash.
If you want complete overkill, get a GTX 980ti and call it a day lol
A 660 ti is more than capable to play max settings at 1080p Resolution.
Which 6 Core AMD processor are you using?
With a GTX650 SC my older build was able to run the game atleast 35fps-50fps on dx11 and high settings with minor tweeks to some of the shadows but yea I think a 660 or higher might do the job
amd six cores
GTX-960 or higher.
The nvidia 950. Is what my hubby is using. ~$200 CND. he has max settings getting 40-60 FPS everywhere.
I have an Nvidia 770, Max setting 40-60 FPS everywhere but Lost city of Amdapor keep.
Make sure you got all the latest drivers installed. Check if your graphics card is not thermal throttling, as your model isn't old per-say, but it maybe growing a beard. Not sure what kind of pc you're running, but it might be a good idea to dust it out. Also check any background programs that may be running, this can be done easily by just looking at your task manager and looking at how much cpu/ram other programs are running with.
Also what settings are running at? Information is kinda sketchy here, need more source to cover the dog.
Right....but which one?
Phenom II X6 1045t->1100t (2.6Ghz->3.3Ghz
FX 6100 - 6150
FX 6300 - 6350
All have varying degrees of performance and all will give low FPS in crowded areas due to AMD's low per core performance.
But other than crowded areas your system should play fine on Max up to 1080p Resolution and a newer Graphics card wont fix that.
You could just search for Final Fantasy XIV System Information in your start menu's search box, run it, then choose copy to clipboard. Come back to the forums and paste the copied information into the forum reply.
This will tell us all we need to know about your computers specs including its Processor, RAM, version of windows, etc. These things really help to know to make an informed decision on a graphics card.
Alternatively, you could just take a screen shot of your benchmark window and post it here too.. Gives the same info but more concise.
vishara is my cpu
Quote:
Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward Minimum Requirements
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 3GHz or AMD equivalent
Video Card: NVIDIA Geforce 8800 or higher, ATI Radeon HD 4770 or higher
To summarize - the IPC of the FX 6300 (Vishera) is very close to that of the Core 2 Duo 8300. So while you have above the Recommended GPU for FFXIV to run smooth at Max Settings @ 1080p, your CPU is only equivalent to the minimum specs for optimal performance.Quote:
Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward Recommended Requirements
CPU: Intel Core-i5 2.66GHz or AMD Equivalent
Video Card: NVIDIA Geforce GTX 660 or higher, AMD Radeon HD 7950 or higher
The Recommended CPU is the i5 750, which has roughly 15% higher IPC than the FX 6300. The game will run well due to the FX 6300 having 6 Cores over the 4 Core i5 750, but when it comes to loading multiple character data, the FX 6300 will get bogged down on a single core and bottleneck the rest of the system.
By running the game on the lowest settings it automatically reduces the amount of character data that gets loaded making the game run smoother with higher minimum framerates.
If you would like to compare Benchmarks to make sure there is nothing else going on with your system, here is a Bench of my GTX 760 which has very similar performance to the GTX 660 ti.

If your system gets close to that benchmark score, then there are a couple things you can do to make the game run smoother in crowded areas:
Go to System -> System Configuration -> Graphic Settings
* Set Graphics Settings to Maximum -> Click Apply and you will see your FPS Drop (Top Right Hand Corner)
* Check the Box for - Disable Rendering of Objects when not Visible
* Check the Box for - Use low-detail models on distant objects
Go to -> Other Settings
* Change Character and Object Quantity to between Minimum and Normal.
Then check to see how your FPS are in crowded areas as that will be the most straining area.
Bought a Geforce 970. I get 54-60fps in Idyllshire. Mind you, the other parts in your pc might bottleneck. I also have 16gb of DDR4 ram and a Intel i5 6600 @ 3.3ghz.
Go with a gtx 970 if you want best bang for your buck. If you have a bigger budget, then definitely hold out and grab a gtx 980ti. It will push high settings at even 4k resolution.
using an overclocked Gtx980 4gb card.simply awesome.
Agreeing with everyone saying the GTX 970. I run on a 770 and I run at max resolution with very little lag, but I also have an i7 4770K processor helping things out. GTX 970 is one of the better values on the market today, and it'll last you at least 2-3 years.
BTW, this website is amazing for video card comparisons: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/
I have an R9 290x and it does pretty good with DX11 i stay at 60 fps on maxium so no complaints!
GTX 970 already fine enough for DX11. With OC on afterburner having battle on S rank isn't drop the fps much.
Get a GTX970. They are cheaper now. A GTX970 can max out this game in 1080p without even reaching 100% GPU usage. It is also a future proof card. The graphics of this game will be further enhanced at some point in future according to Yoshi. Though we don't know when and what enhancements we will see. A GTX970 will keep you happy for long time to come.
thanks you for you input
As Xero pointed out you have to fix your system bottleneck, which is your CPU or you will still have problems no matter what GPU you put in.
After that if you still need to upgrade your GPU, a gtx970 or 980 would be the way to go, with the 970 probably being the better cost to performance value, especially if you are going to double up for SLI.
You can even find factory OC'ed 970's that pretty much run as well as a non-OC'ed 980 for a good deal less money, you just need to factor in the slight increase in power draw and the increased heat generation, although that really shouldn't be an issue unless you are doing SLI, have a crowded case or are super ocd about things like temps and heat dispersion with your comp (I am and always mod my cases for increased airflow and looks).
I would recommend the GTX 970 as well. I just installed this a few minutes ago (replaced a R9 270x that crapped out on me).
Playing this game at 1080p, I get a steady 60 frames per second if I cap the game at that (max settings plus FXAA). Higher if I uncap the frame rate.
No overclocking, air cooled.
CPU: AMD FX 8350 4.0Ghz
PSU: Corsair 80+ Gold 500W
You should ask such questions in a pc forum. Its obvisious that many people here have no clue what they are talking about...
Really ...
While I'll freely admit that I don't know everything about every component made by every manufacturer, I have been building my own comps for over a decade all from scratch and often modded.
So I'm curious, what is it that people are saying that shows that they have no clue what they are talking about and what knowledge and input do you have that shows that you do?
As someone with a GTX 970, yes, get a GTX 970.
Furthermore you cant just recommend a video card without knowing the whole system specs. Probably the TE has an old power supply which cant handle the gtx 970 proberly.
And just what is inherently wrong with two 970's in SLI?
I run two OC'ed 970's in SLI.
Why? Because I play more games than just this one that are more demanding and I like to max out settings with a stable 60+ fps. It was also a better performance to cost ratio to go with two 970's in SLI for the level of performance I wanted for all the different things I do with my comp.
Also, I never suggested to go SLI.
I did mention it as a consideration when looking at cards and their cost, performance and longevity. In fact, I only brought it into the conversation in the context of IF you are going to do SLI it may be better to go with 970's over 980's since it is way more affordable and the cost difference between the cards adds up when you are getting two.
This part I will partially agree with since there are gaps in the information given to us on what they have such as their psu.
However 970's really aren't that big of power hogs, approx. 150 watts from all the documentation I've seen, so unless they have a very underpowered psu, like a 300 watt or less, they will most likely be able to use a 970 fine. Besides, if their psu is that weak they should probably upgrade at this point and good psu's arent really expensive.
But yes more info to work with is better and it has been asked for in this thread, but until that is provided we can only make the best guesstimations we can.
A SLI with two gtx 970 ist some of the worst things you can do because of the 3,5 gb vram.Thats way to less memory for so much power. If you dont have any problems yet, you will get them in the future if you dont plan to replace them anytime soon
And also theres another manufacturer of video card called AMD. The r 390 ist as fast as the gtx 970, has 8 gb vram and costs the same.
GTX980's have 4gb of vram, that's .05gb difference per card and only 1gb difference for SLI. That's approximately a 14% difference in the amount of vram between the two.
This is minimized even more by the fact that 970's are technically a 3.5 + 0.5 vram setup, so also 4.0gb, its just that 0.5gb of that is separate and slower vram, which was a "problem" before (for those that thought it was a contiguous 4gb setup) but has been mitigated somewhat by Nvidia changing up and refining how the 970 allocate the different sections of memory, with the slower 0.5gb being used for firmware storage and the like, which on the 980's still takes up part of the 4gb on that card.
Lastly, the performance of cards, particularly if they are different architecture and from different manufacturers, can't be solely judged on some numbers thrown out.
Let's look at the 8gb thing. Yes, that number is greater but how well is it utilized by the architecture? A card can look better on paper, but its real world performance may not match up.
The 8gb is theoretically better for higher resolutions like 4k, but you may not see any real performance increase at 1080p.
Also, you then have to factor in that Nvidia has partnered with many developers to have them utilize and optimize for their technology, so in games like Witcher 3 you may get better performance from a Nvidia card that has lower specs compared to an AMD card.
Also, the gtx970's are more power efficient and use less power.
So which of the cards are better?
Really it depends on the situation and they are fairly comparable. I personally like the 970's more because more of the games I play have been optimized for nvidia tech.
As for old psu's being problematic yes that is a problem but one that extends beyond what graphics card they have or should get. If a psu is that old, it should get replaced regardless.
Oh boy, the memory in SLI doesnt add up. You have 3,5 Gb of vram available with your SLI Setup...
I will agree with everybody who suggests the 970. I just recently got one, and I love it. I should note, though, that upgrading your GPU on this game doesn't do nearly as much for your frame rate as upgrading your CPU does (assuming your gpu isn't extremely outdated. I went from an AMD 7950 to a 970 and did not go up in frame rate at all, even though the 970 is a much superior card and makes the game look a LOT better. When i upgraded my processor from a 2nd gen i5, i went from 30-50 fps to 90-120). I use a 4770k processor and a gigabyte brand 970 GTX. I do not ever overclock anything that I buy, the attached picture shows the stock performance of this combination. I play at 1080p, and I always have a ton of stuff going in the background.

I opened the map to show you that I'm getting over 90 frames in the busiest part of Idyllshire. The 970 is more than enough for this game, and always will be. I wouldn't waste extra money on a 980ti or anything else unless you're an enthusiast with a lot of money to spend for only slight to moderate performance increases.
Edit to note: This is prime time, when i took this screenshot. I usually push over 100 frames in idyllshire at night time when there aren't a million people loitering around. I'm on one of the most populated servers of the game, as well.
