Samurai is what we need

I moved to 14 from 11 because the advancement in 11 became crazy. I still very much miss blue mage but the one job i wish they had in 14 is samurai. Idk what they are doing or what the holdup is but it seems the more they keep putting this off the more pressure thier gonna be under to make samurai not suck in 14. No its not a tank. If you think it should be clearly you never played samurai in 11. Samurais in 11 build up power then release it in one shot. Much like the war enrage meter but it would be stronger. Also they could help to link magic users or make magic more powerfull because they helped create magic bursts in 11. Also i would like to see samurai as the first dps multi-weapon user in 14. in 11 they had halpards, katanas and bows. in the dps sense i think they did well with nin and drg in 14. they could also implement a new battle system for the dps since it is getting to the point soon that everyone will have 3 dps at ilvl 210.

They were originally going to introduce Samurai before Dark Knight but decided to not release two Easternish job classes so close together. Even though in many games the Dark Knight was never ever a tank class since it focused on sacrificing health to do absurd amounts of damage which we do not accurately have here. Instead they gave us a Tank that is all about sustainability.

Multi weapon users do exist in the form of Ninja's however a concern I've always had is outside of Crafters, Gatherers, and Paladins the Offhand slot is now never used by any other combat class and would do well to put something there to buff up a class's stats a bit more. And with Ninja's we can't even mix and match 1 of each of our short swords.

I mean the magic classes could be equipping magic daggers along with their staff's but they essentially have these 2 handed staffs that characters still hold in 1 hand.

Just gonna say that's a poor argument. FFXI is not the only FF. And besides, jobs in XIV are missing a lot of traditional attacks and mechanics and such from previous incarnations. Where's Reraise on WHM? Where's PLD's Climhazard? Why does DRK have what's basically Mind Break instead of giving it to PLD where it belongs? Why can't ROG actually steal things? ARC is a dot/oGCD class instead of having Charge?

But, yes, I would love it if they made SAM a melee magic DPS, just to mess with everyone.

I think it could work. Base it around focusing the spirit into weapons, armors and/or purely summoning a spiritual entity to cast effects on you (instead of you telling the summon what to do).

I want to see two types of samurai, one DPS, and one tank.

Yep, was basing my description on FFT, which is also what you described.

Quite alot of your post is very assumption based on what you think. This is another MMO all together not XI-2.

The Hold is up is the next expatiation. If they give us all the jobs now what else do we have to look forward to?
And who knows they could be working on SAM now but when it's ready and when it's due to be released is up to SE.

Also about the role, we don't choose what role the SAM will be but SE will. SAM could fit in as a DPS or a Tank either way. I wish people stop thinking XI is the base ground for all jobs and think once they locked into that role they can't change it..

While it's FF in name, a lot of has to be made in a working context in the realm of an MMO and give the job it's own identity; they'd have to work against the grain a little bit to break from how FF skills traditonally have worked, BLM is a well-executed example imo.

As for samurai, I think it could be a toggle-able stationary melee DPS that uses oGCD skills for movement (side stepping to flank/rears, or backwards), or a completely different resource (the game desperately needs to break away from TP being the only resource for physical dps, if MCH is any indicator), either using mana (similiiar but not a carbon copy of DRK) or a stacking spirit buff of sorts.

In any event i honestly could care less to have Samurai, but please bring Dancer :)

By this logic, every job designed in FFXI is definite. I guess you're right, just like how FFXIV's DRK is the same as FFXI's DRK. Not to mention SAM was initially implemented to be a tank (and NIN to be DPS). They were designed so poorly, minus and minus became plus. Also, SE was on the brink of releasing SAM as a tank for HW. Everyone knows about the story that they chose DRK to be the tank for HW at the last moment. I would not call it a wild guess if they already had an idea for SAM as a tank.

I completely agree with your battle system change. However I look at it from a different angle. If they continue like this (1.0's cross class remnant), they limit the options for new jobs. They already had trouble with Ninja, hence Rogue is this weird class no jobs can get abilities from (jobs, not classes. Classes can, but I have yet to see people use classes in 4/8/24 man PvE). More trouble for HW. New jobs now don't even have a base class and start at 30. I would love to hear SE point of view on this matter.

No. An in-game chat system is what we need. I can do A1S extremely well as NIN, but I don't have a clear because I don't have TeamSpeak access, and therefore, people don't let me join. My NIN is iLv202 and I'm very fluent with it.

There already is tanks wielding 1 and 2 handed swords (which have very similar way to mitigate dmg) I'd rather not see another one, unless SE has got some new ideas for samurai as a tank (new mechanic to add to the dmg mitigation field)

So yeah would rather see a sword wielding dps for now, though I doubt it'll get me away from my precious mnk, when I do get to dps

I think at 4.0 is when will see the hybrid class implemented and a system like ARC have being able to sch and Smn. Sam will be the dpS and shogun will be the tank.

Arcanist is ACN archer is ARC just going by clearing some possible confusion.

Though I believe Yoshi said at some interview that there will not be any new classes that gives out 2 jobs and that hybrid jobs would just be one job that'd be 1 job able to to fill 2 roles (I was thinking of a "change to this stance when you want to full time tank and to this stance when you want to full time dps. And changing the stance wouldbe locked the same as changing jobs is locked. Not during combat and not during instances (other than Frontline and Diadem) but I guess that falls into the same category with 2 jobs from 1 class, just a different way to change the job (stance vs job crystal)

Would be happy with whatever fits into FFXIV Eorzean lore... but DPS Samurai sounds lovely!

In my opinion, they could even try to go the route of a Tank that does DPS. Similar to how we have a WAR. Though, I feel that a DPS class would make more sense if it released sooner than later; only considering what has been released recently. I wonder if they are going to try and multi-role classes?

It will be fun to find out what SAM ends up being in FFXIV!

Looking forward to 4.0 because I'm hoping for Samurai dps.

It probably will be and be competing for loot with DRG imo.

I used to think SAM would be a tank but now it seems like DPS would be the logical step to take.

Honestly, DPS or Tank, I'm most likely going to pick it up anyway because katana swords.

but what I would really like to see a pseudo skillchain mechanic for Samurai. Like Ninja Mudras but with weapon skill elements instead of hand signs. And inb4 Samurai first DPS class to crossclass with a tank ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

You mean like how MNK and DRG can crossclass MRD skills? :p

But anyway, SAM DPS would fill a much-needed sword DPS slot. Right now if you want to play a sword-wielder, tanks are your only option (unless you count NIN "daggers" as short swords, I guess).

Red don't need to be a tank it can be an Astro in sword stance melee. Hp and MP heal and regent base on dmg or something. We still have the Viking class from the ff lore. Since yoshi did say that he plans to bring all class jobs and hybrids to ff14.

How do you hit harder with a katana if you have better charisma than the other guy next to you? And agility is generally the same as dexterity. So no, a dps class with semi heavy (drg) armor and str accessories.

So basically raids would have either drg or Sam. But then again, katanas are quite sharp and could be considered piercing right :D

That is very true, but having nin + "supportlol" + Sam in one raid. Good luck with accessories :D although, until tank dps is calculated with vit there's 2 tanks 1 drg and possibly a mnk to go for those str accessories so /shrug

Your damage using a katana is based on your ability to call to the spirits in the swords, which relies on charisma! Or something.

But, yeah, I don't see the point in adding a whole new main stat just for one class to use, especially if it means they have to add in all new gear 1-50 or add those stats to existing gear.

Adding stats to existing gear isn't hard at all though. They already did it with MNK gear when NIN was first added. Slap the new stat on DRG armor, call it a day.

well i'd like to see in 4.0 SAM more as a dpstank like WAR ( and as MT focused on parrying /evading^^) , RDM as a magic melee dps (attacking with an estoc /rapier with enspells \o/), and maybe bluemage as a kinda support heal, similiar like AST, then we would have 2 mts, 2 ots , 4 melees, 4 ranged, 2 heals and 2 kinda like support heals :D

I hope they put SAM in as a DPS. I think part of me would die inside if they finally make a class with a katana and it was a tank. Especially since they have no actual sword DPS in the entire game (dual wielding short swords isn't really the same, IMO).
