Topic on exclusive items

Is it just me, or do people fight with me alot on this topic? Does it happen to anyone else?

Exclusivity. We all love it dont we? Yes

But however some people tend to get very salty and get nasty and rude to others who say "I wish ___ would return. I never got a chance to do it! I really want ___"

After that statement, the people who have said item roll in and start saying things like NO. YOUCANT HAVE IT BECAUSE ITS OVER. YOU SNOOZE YOU LOSE


Or they say it kindly, which is alot better. Some have it and dont care if others do, etc.

Then there are people who scream and whine that they dont have it. (I wont lie Ive done this before)

Im bringing this up because of my moogle attire thread, Ive been getting alot of crap because of salty people coming and saying I cant have it because it needs to stay special etc etc and Ive gotten rude back, but I just gave up. If i get hate there ill just be kind and say thank you for the input.

Am I only one with these problems?

i am just tired of the people. they will ask every week the same question. and then, IF they would bring the lightning event back for example, we will have the same topics again and again just a week after the event ended c.c

Let me just say that I think exclusivity with digital items is one of the silliest things I've heard of, they usually exist for the sole purpose of getting a large influx of money in a short period of time. The only thing I believe should be "exclusive" are items that are incredibly hard to earn, whether due to long grinds or whatever else. Like the Kirin, except it should never be nerfed. That's the only point that exclusivity actually starts to mean something.

I get that. I only asked once on the forums and some people werent exactly kind, but some were.

I missed the events back then because I didnt know this game existed, theres no way I can miss those events now and if I do well I cant complain lmao

I agree with you. A lot of people get really butthurt on these forums for a simple questions.

Here's an idea! If you don't want to read a thread about the same topic, DON'T CLICK ON IT. it's really that simple. They just want to be rude for no reason. Ignore them though, sadly there's people like this in every online game.

The interesting part here is why people think the exclusivity of the items should be preserved. ---Opinions incoming---
In the case of the moggle attire it was supposed to be an "I was there item" funny thing is most people I know who have it didn't even touch the live stream/event it was associated with, they might as well have just bought a cash shop item, this I find pretty rediculous to keep exclusive.
In the case of the legacy items l, its kind of justifiable, when you examine what it really was. A thank you gift for investing in what is generally considered a substandard product and keeping it from colapsing While we try to make it worth something. I would probably seem biased since I actually have these, but I would note that for the most part don't use them, nor care to.
The FF13 items could go either way, their sole intent for value return was promotion of another game. The intent was to provide an advertisement on the cheap to sell something for $60 a pop. Personally I think it is dumb they arn't handing these out from the calamity salvager regardless of completion status, sure the value is deminshed from SE stand point, but advertising is still advertising.

Wah! I got the Gobbue legacy mount on one character but not another! Wah, I want to be special!

Sorry, I'll admit sometimes that I'll see someone with event gear that I didn't participate in and I'll wish I had participated...but I'm not gonna complain about it. I just won't miss future events.

A quick way to lose faith and respect amongst your paying customers would be to start releasing "exclusive" items that come from events / special purchases to the general playerbase. Essentially, these items are a little "thank you" to customers for spending additional money (either through events, buying CDS, preorders, whatever) outside of your subscription fee.

There seems to be a lot of entitlement that floats around with the crowd who thinks all items should be released to everyone. Outside of showing up to conventions, just about everything else is available easily to those who want to pay for it.

Yes, exclusive items exist to make money. That is absolutely correct. And they make less money if people don't trust that they are exclusive. That's how business works!

^ This. If you want your "thank you"-items then you should have been supporting the game. "I didn't know it existed" isn't really a good enough excuse to make it sound like you should be able to essentially go back in time to get those same items that others got. In another game, RIFT, they had a special mount and minion that you could only get for having bought the Collector's Edition... some time later those exact same items were then available in the cash shop. Why? So some kid who joined the game a year into it (considering a lot of games at the time RIFT came out didn't last a year... Star Wars... before going F2P) could tell everyone else he bought the CE when he really didn't? Just because he liked the two-headed turtle mount and the little Bogling? The point is that making them either reappear over and over, or offering them in the cash shop when they were originally distributed for special things (events, CEs, etc.) you remove the whole "thank you" aspect from it, and that's the whole issue right there.

IT's fine to not get everthing in this game.
I started with HW Addon and missed Lightning Event, too.

Does it bother me? No.
Do I want a comeback of the Event? Well not without a reason, like the Lightning Returns Release where this Event took part.

Aside from the Legacy items and special items that come with plushies and offical soundtracks, I think SE should release them all on the Mog Station for the same fee as it was before. Stuff like Moogle suit, FFXIII glamour items, hairstyles, Dragon Quest items need to be sold via the Mog Station. This is a win/win for SE and the playerbase. SE has alot of events and items that can sold for a nice profit and from reading the threads on the forum there is a demand for it, why isnt SE supplying it?

I own the moogle suit, lightning hairstyle etc., so its not like I am supporting this thread so I can get something. Items like the moogle suit was sold for 25 euro at the time, it was no promise from SE, it was no exclusive stuff, since everyone could buy it for 25 euro. So why not put the moogle suit for 10,50 euro (we got the livestream) on the Mog Station? Those that realy want the item can buy it, SE gets $$$$ that they can use to make more content or glamours, WIN/WIN.

I agree that legacy stuff should be left alone, the items are a reward for paying a subscription of a dying game and minions from CD or Plushies are still being sold, so they should be left alone, but everyone else is fair game, in my opinion. :p

If they cost money, then no, they're not going to be making more money. In fact they'll be making more money if it was a permanent item, just spread out over a longer period of time.

Nobodys entitled. This thread is about the people who go around crushes other's spirits because they have an item that others want and try their hardest to prevtm it from returning.

Speaking of plushies...you all need to stop buying those Carbuncle plushies so that I can get one!

I missed them because I did not own the game. If I missed an event now, while having the game I cant complain whatsoever.

You misunderstood what I was saying. You weren't there for a legacy event or an almost 2 year old limited time event, why do you feel that you should be entitled to get the rewards from that content when you weren't supporting the game when those events were going on?

I don't care much for the plushies, but the minions... SE really needs to make enough to supply the demand, and then start shipping them to Australia.

Yes the "i didn't know about it" isn't a excuse, if you missed it sorry move on with life. Do people go into a store to find out last week the product they want to buy was on sale last week and demand that they get it for that same price cause they didn't know about it? Well working retail I have actually seen that but they are told no they can't get it for the sale price that was selling for week before. Now people will argue that well they can still get just have to pay a higher price, true but even if SE stuck stuff in cash shop then people would complain that the other players got the items for free in the game. So there is really no way to make the people that missed it 100% happy.

SE already does that with seasonal event items. I'm of the opinion that the moogle suit shouldn't be on the cash shop, I was around for it but didn't purchase the ticket because I did not care for it, and still do not care for it, but hey, if it satisfies the people with their little exclusivity obsession let it be. But locking seasonal items behind a paywall if you missed out is still quite scummy if I'm going to be honest. I bought into it though, so I guess I shouldn't complain.

Things like holiday items should be reoccurring (preferably not through the cash shop, but blah...), because well...the holiday itself is reoccuring. Other things like anniversary specials, milestone events or legacy rewards should remain as is.

Exactly, I think the past year events should be replayable too. Picture in 5 years time a new player joins and a seasonal event rolls around, that new player now has at least a weeks worth of content to do with many new costumes and fun events to partake in. In our current situation? The player has to cough up a quite a bit of cash to get the past event items, but I guess that's their intent.

There is a problem with this thought though. First of all, the digital items in this game includes *everything* we have, so digital items do not usually exist for the sole purpose of getting a large influx of money. The seasonal and other special events in game with their exclusive items do not exist to generate a large influx of money, they are fan service for loyal players. If you're not here when an event happens and an exclusive item remains exclusive to the event, how is that 'silly'?

In a virtual world all items are digital. In a physical world all items are physical. If you go to a special event IRL and they are giving out T-shirts, you'll only get them there, unless someone later sells theirs. In game it's the same thing with items from seasonal and special events fulfilling the exact same role. So please, explain to me how it's 'silly'.

Exclusivity IRL has nothing to do with skill, but simply being there. In game exclusivity is a *reward* to the loyal subscribers who stick around and partake in the events. If you're not there, don't take part or unsubbed, then yeah, you're not going to get the exclusive thing. I'd go as far as to say that making any seasonal and special event items available in the shop detracts from the reward element of the event and item. If people can't be bothered to sub, or take part, then really they should not be able to get the item. Perhaps folks should be thankful to SE for giving them the opportunity to purchase some of those things in the MogStation. Although Personally I wouldn't shed a tear if no item exclusive to a seasonal or special event ever appeared on the MogStation.

Hold on, you can't have it both ways, you can't say that you want legacy items to be exclusive on the grounds that people weren't there to support the game then, but turn around and say it's OK to have items from a seasonal event that happened a year ago available in the shop. Those subbed to the game at the time of the event were supporting the game the same way that players supported FFXIV 1.X . If you want to maintain exclusivity for Legacy on the basis of continued support, that's fine, and I agree, but I think you're wrong to turn around and say the opposite for exclusive items since 2.0 launched, it's hypocritical.

I think a lot of people in this topic need to look up 'opportunity cost' and consider that the exclusivity of an item and the chagrin you feel at not having it later is an example of taking the opportunity to avoid the cost (at the time) but now regretting that choice.

I think you're missing my point entirely, I'm well aware that everything is digital, but when they're time limited digital items they exist to make a large influx of money in a relatively short amount of time. Say they released a goblin costume for $20, it's bound to sell more than a few copies, but not a large amount. Now, sell that item but throw it up for a month. Everyone's going to be screaming for that item because it's the only chance they'll ever have to get it, you're selling it to anyone who's interested even remotely in the item in the span of a month, while people might otherwise purchase it even a year later.

We already have a system in place that rewards loyal players, which are the veteran rewards. Not only does this constantly reward players who have been subscribed since the beginning by constantly adding new items, but it also gives newer players something to look forward to while continuing to stay subscribed to the game. I believe that's the proper way to do it, instead of asking for more money. You don't reward loyal players by charging them them more. It's gotten to the point where the Veteran Rewards have started to get worse and worse with each addition, even the latest one should have been part of the previous Firion set.

If you consider seasonal/holiday (something that is reoccuring every year) items to be in the same vein and concept as the exclusive items (which are usually made for specific one-time events, like cross overs or the closure of 1.0), then sure.

If they make a new event with new items each and every time, then yes, why not? The same season or holiday recurs, but *not* the same event or items.

Certainly doesn't seem to be SE's stance on the matter when 2014's moonfire festival included all the swimsuit sets, and 2015's moonfire included the same swimsuits and 2015's yukatas. Not to say they didn't have some items that were exclusive to it (such as furnishings and such), but that end is on SE's decision on what should be kept exclusive or not. Whether you agree with it or not is the thing, but you'd need more than a "why not" to get a discussion going.

This is patently untrue. The only thing they lose is the ability to lord over others who either are new to the game or missed the event. Say they put Lightning's hair and outfit on the Cash Shop. People who participated in the event got a side quest and free items, whereas everyone else loses that content and must pay for whatever items they fancy. By restricting it instead, you piss off people aren't able to obtain these items. Like, for instance, I am unable to complete my Culinarian log because Haddock is an event item. That's that plan irksome.

It is hardly entitlement asking to pay for items we cannot get otherwise. In fact, that's the precise opposite. If people were clamoring for them to be free, then you could make a case for entitlement. But not now.

I can count on one hand people who "lord it over" other players because they have a rare event item. Cry harder!

Damn, I thought they would have just chucked them into the FC Vendor like they did the items that make the Starlight Dodo. That's just shit that they didn't. I'd have bought far more if I had known that were going to be the case (afaik, they're sellable on the MB).

I've never once lorded over anyone the fact that I have a moogle costume, or lightning hair, or any other fluff item that this is supposedly about. There are also several items that I don't have because I had either been unsubbed or just missed entirely. That's just how it works.


I truly don't understand how people can feel they deserve to have every last item in a game, even if they weren't around at the time, or simply didn't partake when the opportunity was presented to them. To me, that is entitlement.

No one is saying they deserve them, but merely want them made available. That is just human nature at work. It especially becomes annoying since you'll see items on other players you have no way of accessing, even if you're willing to pay for them. Exclusivity of glamour gear benefits no one. My paying $10 for the Lightning hair does not suddenly devalue your enjoyment of it. And if it does, well, that's a whole different problem, which hearkens back to my initial point.

Legacy items, I agree, are unique. As they exist solely as a gift to players who paid for a subpar product. In essence, they're a "We're very sorry. Please come back" item.

I remember days when a "game" was to have fun...
There is no "fun" if items are "exclusive"...

Where does that bad habit come from? (Looking at others if they have more or less)
Do you have "fun" in searching for an item (example if you like its design) knowing you will NEVER get it?
I do not know why you feel better if others have less or cant get what you have... i feel pity for you!

If you have the items why do you care if others can have it too?
If you dont have the items, would you have more "fun" when you finally can get it too?

What happened with the old "true" gamers, must all be some sort of highscore with "I am better than you"? Really??

Veteran rewards are akin to a pre-order bonus, and they are purely related to whether you have a paid subscription or not. Event items require you were a) subscribed, b) active and c) took part. Supporting the game includes more than simply paying the sub. You have to be active, and you have to participate in the game and it's events, that supports the game every bit as much as a subscription does because an empty game feels dead and loses subscribers. the seasonal and other special events are explicitly there to generate activity. If you fail to take part, you're not, in fact, supporting that.
