Yes, this is a gripe post.

My main is PLD. I have to Savage as SCH. I'm starting to hate Lily.

"Macro the fairy!" they say. Macros break cast queues. If I cast in alignment with *my* GCD, not machine gun hammering of the keys, she doesn't cast *anything* every other GCD. This is particularly annoying when I'm trying to DPS, and considering how much I hate DPSing to begin with...

I work jewelry. Wire work. My joints hurt. Hammering that damn key hurts. Contorting my hand to hammer control + key bindings hurts.

Hmm. Not that the controls couldn't be improved, but as a practical workaround, I've found the Logitech Gaming Software (and I assume Razer and Corsair have equivalents) is very helpful in avoiding key spam issues. I use about 75ms autorepeat-- not sure what the exact cutoff is but 25ms is too fast.

I'm not sure exactly what is it you're having difficulties with, but if it's unresponsive pet abilties you could always try the following macro:

/pac steady <pet>
/pac Fey Wind <wait.1>
/pac obey

Basically if your pet is casting embrace, the above macro interrupts it ensuring you can get your pet ability executed asap. Then after 1 second you can remove the steady automatically to be used for your next action. I don't use macros as a SCH so there might be a better way to write that particular macro, but it works so it's a start. xD

Also, the main issue here sounds like you being forced to play SCH. If you main PLD, you should be playing it for your static. I have a raid and I always promote playing your favourite job, it's very important.

Edit: Or if you were just talking about her using embrace, it's on a 3 second CD as opposed to 2.5, hence why it can feel sluggish. I would say you can macro embrace to all of your DPS abilities (<tt>), but tbh when playing SCH I usually advise you use as few macros as possible the more you learn the job.

It *is* macroed to all abilities <tt>. Well, dps abilities. On heals its macroed to target.

I pretty much only want her casting on my tank. Let's me deal with other things.

And yes, kind of forced. They can't keep healers and the other one is AST. DRK/WAR tanks are solid. Seriously debating leveling WHM, but I'd still prefer not to heal and Esoteric tomes are a pain in the ass.

As both a career (xD) healer and career WHM... my advice is to not do it. If you don't enjoy it you'll just come to resent it, as with SCH now.

I'm using a generic shitty cheap keyboard so no key repeating.

I can't use gaming mice because my wrists are jacked and I use ergonomic mouse as a result. I need to figure something out by tonight though. Blech. Hate the fairy. That's why our AST isn't SCH(other healer was a WHM). He hates Lily too.

It's less that I hate healing, it's that I hate healing in this game. I've healed for a decade in others without any issue. The DPS requirement part really annoys the hell out of me and the fairy is adding to the frustration.

Understandable. Well, leveling WHM does do away with the fairy but, in a raid group, not with the DPS requirements. On second thought, it might be worth leveling WHM depending on exactly what your frustrations are and figuring our how many will carry over (aside from the 2 just mentioned)...

Keep in mind, your fairy autoheals at below 80% - so be sure you are not unneccessarily hammering the button when it's gonna heal anyway - it's faster than you are.

I wouldn't macro embrace to all of my dps skills, IMO that is very bad. Instead if you want to embrace someone while dpsing, i suggest make a separate embrace mouse over macro, and you can dps while pressing it (the macro will be like oGCD to you). Or you can make a macro to embrace tank 1 or tank 2 for like 10 secs continuously too.

Edit: NVM, misunderstood your original post xD Well if you can't spamming skills that much then may be whm or ast easier (?). Good luck though :D

Isn't the OP diverting his/her frustrating to the wrong direction? If you hate playing Scholar THAT much, tell your group. If they don't feel like changing jobs themselves just so they can play on on the jobs they want, find another group. Looking at the excalibur forum, there's actually a demand for tanks - Although at least half of them are for warriors, from the looks of it.

That defeats the purpose of playing with friends of mine. I just don't like the damn micromanaging. And I don't play Warrior. -_-

Would switching to the "other healer Job" be a suitable alternative? I see you have AST level and it seems like you're leveling WHM as well. Just because SCH is "the most optimal in theory" doesn't mean it's the most optimal for your group if you hate playing the job that much.

I wouldn't recommend this macro. It breaks and won't work the next time you need it if you use any macros in that 1 second space. A more robust macro would be:

/pac Steady
/pac Guard
/pac Fey Wind

In regards to the OP's question about Embrace, my method is to use three castings of Embrace separated by 1 second waits:

/pac Embrace
/wait
/pac Embrace
/wait
/pac Embrace

You can incorporate this into other macros, such as a combined Physick+Embrace macro.

If you use multiple casts like this, it automates the button mashing for you, but you will have to get out of the habit of changing targets between the tank and boss. For example, if you put multiple casts on an attack macro with <tt>, throw an attack on the boss, then switch back to the tank, then those trailing <tt> commands will be telling Eos to heal the boss, which means to heal herself.

What I would recommend doing is set up attack macros so you can camp on the tank as your target and use Embrace spam macros safely. Here is my typical attack macro:

/ac Bio <t>
/ac Bio <f>
/ac Bio <tt>

Putting <f> in there allows you to designate a target for DoTs + Bane without any issues.

No one else wants to. Nor do I think anyone but our MNK has a healer job leveled, but he's our best DPS so that ain't happening.

In fact, the AST didn't want to heal either, he was normally BLM. Problem is, they couldn't keep healers to save themselves.

I feel you, I really, really feel you.

I've been trying to play SCH with mixed results, and I've come to the conclusion recently that the fact I need to DPS is what's consistently throwing me off in AS1 (which I've yet to clear). SCH's healing style of shields is actually starting to grow on me, but I just can't manage it alongside DPSing. If healing was all I required to do, I'd probably be perfectly fine.

The healing meta right now sucks. Really, really sucks. I've started leveling AST, as out of the three healing jobs, they have the least pressure to DPS right now, partly because the have less mana for it and partly because they can indirectly contribute to DPS through their cards.

Really, the developers screwed up with SCH, and also SMN, and they themselves have admitted this. For instance, they were well aware SMN was having issues back in 2.x, but could do little about it at the time because of the very real risk of making SCH overpowered. They had to wait for 3.0 and the raising of level cap, allowing them to add job abilities to bring SMN up to par. You can kinda see the reasoning behind the initial development: Although SCH branched off from a DPS class, its DPS abilities would be much less useful because SCH specs into Mind instead of Intelligence. However, again by their own admission, they didn't count on people exploiting Cleric Stance. Cleric Stance had been intended to allow healer jobs to do solo activites such as quests and leves on their own, and they didn't expect players to actually utilize it for group activities.

You're missing the point. Here, let me try to be a bit more direct.

If you don't mind leveling it, go level WHM and try it as WHM/AST. As much as SCH is op in terms of healer territory, there's no reason to run it if neither of you enjoy it and your group dynamic doesn't benefit from SCH playstyle.

I'm not telling you to make your other healer to switch to SCH or for you to continue to play SCH. I'm telling you to move away from SCH and try to pick "the other healer" that your group didn't have - in this case WHM since your healing partner is an AST.

Well, I can't help you solve the root of the problem, but I can at least help you with your macro endeavor.

You need to assign a time for /wait
Macro lines try and go out simultaniously, you could say there's a queue "malfunction" going on there

No, I want her to cast it immediately after Embrace finishes, before she manages to get the next one started because I'm ramming the "cast this you wench" one down her throat. An interrupt would probably work, provided it interrupts manually cast Embraces(which I'm being told it doesn't). The goal was to have Fey Illumination and Fey Covenant to actually cast when I tell her to instead of waiting for her backside to actually get around to it, and the Rouse macro is for Whispering Dawn interrupt.

I swear to Hate they're all copied directly out of that thread linked in here.

I'm also going to run out of posts for the day soon. :/

To be quite honest, after reading through the posts it seems helping with macros will only be detrimental to you in the long run, as it's clearly not what you're after. From the way you mention you dislike healing in this game and hate micro-managing, you are literally playing the worst possible job for you. If you're doing savage, everyone needs to bring their A-game, and quite frankly Scholars at that level will not be using many macros, if any at all, so it's a very involved job.

Considering you also have a slight handicap in regards to execution, I think it's more important you question why these 'friends' are not accommodating for your needs. Worst case scenario, join a different raid group (tanks are always in need) and make a new bunch of friends. I also think levelling WHM will be a waste of time. If you don't like doing a certain thing in a game, you don't do it. The whole point is to have fun.

I'm not a big fan of macros myself, I wouldn't advise it personally as I'm an advocate of "full manual". But if you believe it makes your scholar life easier:

You have two alternatives here;
You either macro it together so it will always do Fey Illumination first when it's up, which would be:
/pac "Fey Illumination"
/pac "Embrace" <t>

Or make a seperate macro for Fey Illumination that forces your fairy to cancel her current spell in favor for Fey Illumination:
/pac Stay
/pac "Fey Illumination"
optional end:
/wait 2
/pac Heel

The /stay command forces your fairy to drop everything it's doing and stay in place

As for the other macro, I think you HAVE to add in a certain time for it. Whether you use the command line /wait # or the syntax <wait.#>, a number has to be present for it to work. Did the other macro work as I wrote it, though?

I heal in World of Warcraft *exclusively* with mouseover macros. They're functionally identical here, but the macro system has flaws in it that make it just annoy the crap out of me for some reason.

The /pac heel at the end was optional (as mentioned). It was there as I have no idea what kind of scholar you are. Some have it on perma-heel, other have it perma-placed - The latter being the better variation. You can leave it out if you want. /pac stay still force interrupts any spells being cast regardless if it was in place already or not

In raid, I place her.

Do not macro embrace to any of your skills, it is a bad habit. The best thing about having the fairy is that she is not tied to your GCD timer. I have 2 Embrace macros set up, 1 is <tt> for when I'm DPSing (which is 80% of the time in Savage), and the other is <mo>, for when I'm healing and want to focus the fairy onto one target.
Also, make sure you Rouse on CD, it is incredibly powerful.

It just takes practice.
That said, if you don't like playing SCH, then don't play SCH.

I didn't read if anyone had suggested this yet, but do not waste your time on cancel macros. If anyone is below 80% the VI will try to Embrace them, (but who knows maybe your pc is fast enough to keep up with the macrolines!.) The easiest way is to just repeat your command in the macro, cuz you know your fairies are kinda deaf! This will create a psuedo Queue for your fairies. Each line takes .1-.25 seconds depending on your framerate! We can use that to our advantage :D An example is:

Well, it's not strange that Selene refuses to cast Whispering Dawn.

You may want to macro in a /stay if you REALLY want to macro anything together to force it out of her, rather than waiting for her to finish Embrace and HOPE she'll still use it at the end of the macro. It's a lot faster too

Canceling her macro, in my experience, will just RESET her Embrace, if anyone is below 80%. So yes this is the best solution for me. I was just using the template Provide earlier with Eos' Whispering Dawn, but thanks for that observation. :D Selene is the more aggravating of the two, because I can make up for Eos' skills to be a second or two late, but Selene needs to Fey Caress for the Warrior when I tell her. Promise OP! Give it a try! Also your suggestion to wait .1 seconds is telling Eos to wait 1 second. Its common knowledge that macros can't break down lower than one second increments. .1= 1 second. 1.1 = 2 seconds.

Double side note. I have a separate macro that does cancel her, I just don't put it with another macro, I keep it separate like a skill, after being unable to have success with an idea identical with your suggestion.

Not sure what is happening there. My best guess is if you are executing another macro before this one can do what it needs to. When I use queuing macros like this (usually for Embrace), I have gotten in the habit of hitting my own action first, then commanding the faerie.

I use interrupts on all my cooldowns nowadays. That second or two could make the difference between the party having magic defense buff up in time for the big hit or the other healer having Fey Illumination in time for a Medica II. Faerie potency got nerfed hard in Heavensward so Embrace is equivalent to 200 potency at lvl 60. I'm not as concerned nowadays about throwing away a halfway cast Embrace as I was at lower levels.

That error message is normal and doesn't mean it isn't working. You are interrupting her by commanding her to use both Steady and Guard almost simultaneously. She can only execute one of those in such a short period of time so the other generates an error.

In general, how are you testing these?

The macros will interrupt both manual and automatic casts of Embrace. What I was trying to explain in that part you are thinking of is if you DON'T use macros, your cooldown commands will actually queue by the game, but ONLY if your faerie is in the middle of an automatic Embrace, not a manual one. That is the reason why I still have macros for that stuff.

It shouldn't be necessary to put a 1 after "wait," but I'm glad it is working. Constructing macros can sometimes be really frustrating because you have to do it a very specific way or it doesn't work (like /micon "Whispering Dawn" pet "Eos," for example).

Is the interrupt for Whispering Dawn still not working?

I have been working on reorganizing/rewriting/rewording my guide. This thread has motivated me to stop being lazy and finish it... I'll let you know when I do.

Having a macro to cancel Embrace without immediately giving her another command is basically pointless. You won't be able to execute another command manually fast enough before she would start auto-casting again if anyone is below 80%.

If you don't believe me, do the following to test:
1. Have faerie summoned.
2. Change equipment sets to something weak to drain all your HP.
3. Change equipment set back to your main to get max HP back.
4. While your health is below 80% and Eos is auto-casting on you, see if things work the way you expect.


Best approach for Fey Caress is to interrupt her with Steady and Guard. Give it a try. It should do what you really wanted in the first place.

Im just incredibly annoyed that while I like scholar, I *don't* like micromanaging and I'm basically being told if I don't, I suck.

I also don't like having to DPS as a healer. In addition to the hand issues my vision is shit. Constant target switching with this abysmal UI(too cluttered party frames) is incredibly annoying and I find I ignore one part or the other, tunneling because its hard to see everything.

If anyone is familiar with WoW addons, I use Grid there as both raid and party frames. I set up corner markers to indicate "hey you got a regen on that guy" and the like, but otherwise it looks like FFXIV alliance Windows.. Plain boxes(with energy/mana/etc bars and color coded hp bars by class).

I have used steady and guard together in a macro and still do to cancel her, in case she's casting during a critical aggro moment like after p1 on Bismarck. She just seems to skip macrolines on ps3. Upgrading to a SSD and repeating macro lines has fixed this for me.

Micromanaging really isn't really as intimidating as it sounds. "Micromanaging" really boils down to three things:
1. Faerie placement.
2. Manual use of faerie cooldowns instead of letting Eos blow them all immediately.
3. Manual usage of Embrace outside of auto-casting conditions (i.e. people above 80% or more than 21yalms away, which tanks probably will be in A1 if faerie is in the center).

You've already got placement down from the sound of it.
It is easy enough to think of Faerie cooldowns as your own cooldowns and manage them accordingly. The hard part with that is getting them to be reliable and/or immediate, and that is what macros will fix.
As for Embrace, developing a system where you keep the tank targeted and can use Embrace spam macros and Physick/Adlo+Embrace spam macros will take care of most of that. To be honest, unless you are operating outside of 21y from faerie, manual Embraces will be a fairly small percentage of her heals compared to the automatic ones.

As for DPS, this is why I recommend using attack macros. You can go back to my first post or my guide if you missed it. With my attack macros, I can either just keep the tank targeted and mindlessly attack whatever he is attacking, or I can use a focus target and all my attacks go on that enemy while I keep the tank targeted for heals. No switching necessary for DPS. I just have to worry about Cleric Stance, but not targeting.

SCH does take a lot of work to set up well with macros, but once you have a good setup, it's not too much harder to operate than other classes.

Have you tried not using macros at all

Fights are scripted so you always use the same skills at the same times so you can just use them ahead of time


Consider switching to a comfortable gamepad (sch still works fine just a lot of R1 button to switch bars)
