Playing FFXIV as a Au Ra. ( playing as if I was a new player) ( A little bit annoyed)

Play the game as if I was a new player to see what new players have to face from 1-60 playing the game for it's story.

(I have beaten ARR and Heavensward on another character, I however wanted to experience this whole game again with the new race and see all the CS with my character)

Yes I wanted to experience everything I played up to Heavensward from beginning to end as the new race. Most of ARR was great because most dungeons didn't require much waiting involved so I was able to watch the little CS that had story involved.

Castrum Meridianum/Praetorium:

I am sure you know where I am going with this. I am not exactly blaming the players for this because they want to get their reward ASAP. However, I feel that reward is there so that new players that are actually trying to view the story in real time ( not pushing it off to " The Unending Journal" Book. The reward serves as an incentive to basically help those that can't find anybody to do it with. That is way under Duty Roulette it's under the " Main Scenario" Tab.

I am sure there are other like me, I like to view the story in real time.

Story>Trash mobs>Story> Boss etc

Story>Story of a boss I never seen in the dungeon>Story etc With no fighting

It put a sour taste in my mouth that Yeah.. I saw you in a CS but now your dead and I didn't do anything to said boss. The chain continues till the party reaches the end and I am still in the middle of the story ( Nero by that point).

I like watch the CS in real time because it makes me feel I am more involved in the story and makes climax points of the story feel more impact-ful.

1) Not everyone can make a whole lot of friends, Yes I have 1 or 2 friends on here. However when you are dealing with an 8 man dungeon 5-6 of them will still dart ahead ( since they have a high ilvl) and rip everything apart anyways. So I am still stuck with the loop:

Story>Story of a boss I never seen in the dungeon>Story etc. With no fighting

2) Finding people that are online at the same time as you/ waiting for hours for a form a party that meets your criteria. As a new player I would rather use the Duty Finder, more convenient, less hassle, get in pretty quickly. Then you run into the risk of the party I just encountered (People rushing ahead).

I am not sure if there is a solution for this. However, playing as if I was a new player, not being able to watch the story as it unfolds and fight the fights you were meant to fight in order to proceed but the party kills them off.

I do hope for new players that when it comes to story that if they want to see it in real time they can and battle what they are suppose to fight. Kinda feel bad for them :(.

People do those daily for main story roulette. I understand you want to watch them but the are very long and lets face it most aren't going to wait. The best way if you want to watch those cutscenes is to do it with a free company group.

Well, in all content after (including HS) SE has minimized the CSs that occur within a dungeon, instead opting to have them occur as you leave or similar just-after/just-before points. I don't think we're going to get any other concessions from SE...

I understand, but even free company have there own agenda and not everyone will help. And that again takes alot more time to gather people than to simply press a simple button and get in decently quick 10 mins. instead of 1hr +.

The CM problem is not new. It already existed during 2.0 and got worse with 2.1
So a new player, who do CM, still get somehow the same experience as if he did it 1 month after ARR launch.

Grab 2-3 people. Queue as an undersized party. Destroy them.

You could start a party in PF for it. People will join if you're willing to wait. Can you do undersized party? The gear you're given from your class quests is almost double the item level of the dungeons, so you don't need a full party of 8. You could probably do it without a tank too.

Tough. Set up a PF group and set the stipulation to watch CS, otherwise, don't complain.

We have done this for a few people in my FC and its loads of fun. Plus running in full chocobo costumes is an added bonus!

Waiting is the problem lol. Should new players be forced to wait? Finding people is not easy for some people. Especially the ones that have a lot of patience. That's why I can neither blame the community or not. Because I know how long it is, but when a new player gets to this point and Duty finders it ( assuming he doesn't know there is a crap load of CS incoming, and that the party probably won't wait. New players will probably not be made aware of this. I am glad they fix this problem in the future patches, but sadly this is still part of the overall story.

Sorry? Yes I have every right to complain about something I am paying for. I am playing the game for it's story and being involved in the story. I know things probably won't change because of what I am saying. I will however voice my opinion.

We are all Selfish. But who is the person that actually wants to see the story? I do and many other new players.

When the game was fresh most people watched it on the spot, but now your telling the new players to bug off? Not only selfish but rude.

1. You're not new.
2. If the majority consensus is speed run, then the 1 person wanting to watch the youtube videos is the selfish one.
3. Nothing is stopping you from just standing around and watching the CS if that's all you want to do, but don't be surprised if you get a kick for not contributing.

That doesn't fix a problem it makes it 10 times worse.

I wanted to see every cs in them first run too sure. But was told to skip I hated it. But guess what.

I got over it. Because when I started running them for tomes I saw how annoying it was.

1) Your right I am not new, I said I was playing as if I was a new player to get an idea on what it's like for them.

2) Ad Populum, So because most people are speed running makes it okay to dis/kick a new player? *rolls eyes*

I am pretty sure before people click the "join" tab. that they are aware that there might be new people that are doing this for the first time. If you don't want to take that chance there is plenty of ways to get your Poetics. Instead? You "potentially" burden the new players.

SE can make the CSs unskippable but then this would lead to new people getting kicked or 85% of the player base (base that does MS Roullete anyways) to not do MS Roulette or people will speed click the cutscenes and still leave people behind. PF/FC party is the best option to fully experience the Dungeon and Story. The third option is to watch the Cutscenes while the impatience will go on ahead to leave the new people behind. The 4th and super secret option is to not care about the Cutscenes til after the dungeon is over (the option I chose for Coil because I just wanted it done...) As stated earlier, SE remedy this by making the Cutscenes at the beginning and ending of Dungeons/Trials/Raids.

Also, yeah. People have the right to complain. Just like mods have the right to lock threads and the Dev Team has the right to say, "No, we will not address the issue because we feel issue has been addressed."

I know they already fixed the issue in there future content. but that doesn't change the fact the new players have to deal this first, before getting to the "fixed" version of it.

Anyways nothing will change, I just wanted to voice my opinion on it is all.

I am sure people will get over it ( or potentially quit over it), that doesn't make the problem go away. All I am saying is I feel what the new players go through, quite sad.

At least I know when it does que up that I'll have like minded people to do the story along with me /sigh. It is a problem for "both" sides, a problem that may never see a solution to in the DF. That doesn't mean I should sit back and just let it happen. /shrug

They need to remove the main scenerio roulette. People are not going to wait each day they run them for new people to watch the cutscenes. I understand your desire to see them but it's a bit unreasonable to expect people who do these daily to wait a half hour or so for cutscenes. It's just not going to happen. You can say they should but really if you think about it that is asking a lot for people to do on a daily basis. Personally if I had to do that daily I'd stop doing the roulette. I've certainly participated in FC excursions where new players wanted to watch and was happy to.

Yeah, for class quests. All Dungeon Cutscenes can be fully viewed in the book. Especially 2.0 Cutscenes.

I understand that side of the argument wholeheartedly "Not new people would be force to wait". In the case Why not offer more poetics for the time spent waiting? It is outdated stuff after all, so whats the harm? Making it so if a new person is new to the dungeon offer 200-300 more Poetics for the time spent waiting. Or give both that and 20k gil something along those lines. Another words make it worth the dungeon and the wait for new players.

For every other role...queue up with friends that are tanks or healers so that you can control the flow of the duty. Otherwise, people will rush ahead.

I mean, don't you see that this will never end? Personally, you could tell me I would get 2000 poetics for a run of CM and watching the cutscenes and I still wouldn't queue. I have 8 digits Gil, 20k is less than pocket change to me. I would go so far as to say nothing, save from helping a friend or god forbid they route some kind of progression gear through there, would ever make me go back willingly. And then if you do inflate the rewards like that, you'll have people who do want those rewards and then berate people if they don't watch cutscenes.

This is lose-lose. It always has been. I really do have sympathy for the players who are forced to skip the CS, but the simple fact of the matter is SE should have never put integral story CS in repeatable dungeons that were farmed ad nauseum for endgame currency. Even I think if it was just Praetorium then it would have been alot better and we wouldn't see so much of this forcing. Those CS were actually important to the story.

CM is a f***ing joke. There is like 5 cutscenes just of watch towers being destroyed. Please explain to me why this was necessary and deemed CS worthy as plot developing tools? Not you, Starlord :) YOU, SE >.>;

OP, the cutscenes in CM and Prae are 20min long. Some people run Main Scenario Roulette everyday as it's nearly 200k EXP, which is quite a lot when you're trying to level an alt job.

People are simply not going to wait and extra 20 minutes for one person to watch cutscenes in the duty finder. 90% of the people in the runs have done it at least once before. They are either there to get a TT card (Prae drops a 5* card) or get their daily EXP.

As pointed out previously, you can make a Party Finder, Undersize it, or get friends to go with you. If you want to participate in all of the fights and watch all of the cutscenes, I'm afraid you're going to have to find an alternative way to do the run other than the DF. The other people in the party are simply not going to wait an extra 20 minutes for one or two people.

[EDIT] They never have and they never will, honestly. I started playing in 2.1 and I had to skip all my Prae and CM cutscenes 'cause my party wouldn't wait for me. Not that I personally minded, I got to watch them in the inn room later with a hot cup of coco. I found it much better that way.

As are the 7 other people who are paying and don't want to watch the same video every time they run the dungeon or stand around waiting. You can try asking but that dungeon already takes a fair amount of time which is why I stopped doing it. Mixed with the cutscenes that make it almost twice as long, get some friends to run through it with ya or go to the Inn. Your not going to force people to wait for you.

Well, they have changed the way Cutscenes are delivered so I give them props for that, Having little CS like you mentioned are pointless in the grand scheme of things. I just find it sad that this what new players will have to go through when they are in it for the story. Also, not everyone is a millionaire like you are :p haha.

A new player will be waiting far longer then an hour in PF.Before and after they reach lvl 50
.
In this game, you wait. Everyone waits. On ques, on PFs, on spawns.


If new players cant wait one hour in PF, the rest of the game wont appeal to them

I am also not forcing anybody, which is why I only asked once in my party they chose to ignore, so I did shruged it off, but when it came down to the back to back CS I was annoyed, but again kept my cool. I am not forcing anyone to do anything as they are paying for it too. In which case I have to ask. Why do a "Main Scenario" Roulette? I mean it's right on the tab There are countless ways to get Poetics yet some people go to the there anyways?

If it were me and I didn't want to wait for people in the CS, I would simply do something else that nets me Poetics. And a lot faster too. I don't think I ever used the Main Scenario roulette before ever lol for that reason. If your only reason to use that tab is for poetics I feel like it's a waste of time without the CS personally.

Yeah, they did change it. I guess I should have clarified I meant it will never end for these 2 particular dungeons (CM and Prae). It does suck, but I think at this point in the game the new player is going to leave either of those places with a bad taste in their mouth regardless. Is it better to be left behind so you can watch your cutscenes, or to be a part of a fight that you don't actually contribute to because everyone else outgears you so heavily?

I mean, I know this wouldn't be the case for everyone, but I pay attention to my damage contributions in a party and examine other people's gear. If I walked into a dungeon with i90 and stood next to an i200 DPS, I sure wouldn't feel like my role in the slaying of the boss was really all too important /shrug.

True about the Gil thing also. I just don't think throwing more/increased rewards at something is necessarily always the right idea. It just feels more like developer coercion lol.

CM and Prae were poorly designed. Things were even worse back in 2.0 when people were actually running CM constantly to speedrun for Philo. Though they did learn from their mistake in future dungeons, it's a shame they never went back and fixed CM/Prae since they're still needed to complete the MSQ. You can say "just use the PF!" but considering DF has worked for every piece of content before these specific dungeons, it's unlikely a new player will assume that PF is the best option. Ideally, a new player goes into CM, realizes people are speedrunning, leaves, and starts a PF... but usually this doesn't happen. It's just unfortunate that they thought a cutscene focused dungeon would mesh well with the modern MMO mentality of Gotta Go Fast.

What would you suggest they do? Force everyone to wait out the CS? No one would run them again unless they gave like half a levels worth of exp.

Serious question. I run with a 4 player static of real life friends/family. Everyone is kinda stressed out doing content with other people as we all are really not good. Like at all. We have fun though, and have conquered every dungeon this game has thrown at us so far. We are starting the first 8 player trial now, and going to the two 8 player dungeons soon. Is it really possible to 4 man this content with the i90 gear and the i115 expansion weapons on the AH? Or are we going to have problems?

The title of this thread is a bit misleading; I was expecting to see something leading to disappointment specficially because you were Au Ra when, in fact, it had to do only with the fact that you're new. You could have been any race and run into the same issue! I'm still curious whether Yugiri's dialog changes at all when you meet her as an Au Ra...

The issue you're really discussing is, as people have said, as old as release 2.0. People complained, and SE has so far shown they've learned from the mistake, but they have no intention of enforcing any kind of in-game solution. Largely because there isn't ANY kind of in-game solution that wouldn't also piss off a lot of people. We have a party finder option with a checkbox for no skipping of cutscenes, and that's pretty much the best we can expect to get. It's not ideal, but it's better than nothing.

Ultimately, it was a poorly chosen design. It's understandable that the devs didn't realize what they'd done until it was too late. It's understandable that players would prefer others to wait for them to drink in all the content since it's fresh and new for them. It's understandable that veteran players are just eager to get the thing done with since the content is old and stale for them. Force the vets to wait, and they will be less willing to help out. Lose the vets out, and the newbies are looking at ridiculously long queue times.

When people say this, most of the time they don't realize that not all the cutscenes are under the categories they expect them to be. For example, most of the Praetorium cutscenes are under the dungeon entry for the Praetorium. But stuff like your escape from the exploding dungeon are found in the Main Scenario. Figuring out where to find the cutscene you're after can be an exercise in frustration, but I'm pretty sure they're all there.

Of course, conversations you have with NPCs outside of cutscenes have no record; those are lost forever. That doesn't really apply to this discussion, however.
