SE please raise the gil amount that we can bring over with the free server transfer

I live in NA and played on Chaos because friends are there. Now I'm happy that SE offers free transfer when they move the server, but what about the gil limits?

I get it that the 1mil+100k per retainer makes sense earlier 2.X. But right now with all the patches and expansion, 1mil is pocket change. Hell I have a friend who levels to 60 without even trying to make money and ends up around 2mil. Without raising the limit it will screw over most people who want to transfer.

Now if you say there's gonna be economic impact, there always will be. If people can't bring the money then most likely they're gonna sweep off expensive goods on the MB and flood it on the new server.

Not to mention people that currently own a house and spent a fortune on it.

Something has to be done. I think it's reasonable to change the upper limit to make somewhere around 50mil instead of 1mil.

I agree. I got a friend on a different server i'd love to join him but the gil limit is putting me off. I really don't want to craft my butt off to get all that gil back after my transfer. Yes I know u can buy allagan pieces with ur gil (the 10k ones) and sell them on the server u go to, but that's so much of a hassle when u have several 10millions to spend >.<

There's a huge difference between bringing in items which is traded for gil that already exists on that server, and bringing in 50+ million gil out of nowhere into a server.

I'm not sure I see the difference, you are still bringing goods to the server that weren't currently in circulation.

And if you bring in so many of those goods, you'll affect its value if you decide to sell them quickly. That'll have an impact, but only on those items you bring over and temporarily. Now do the same with gil have people bring in possibly billions, how much gil sinks are in this game again? Right, close to none that affect those with more than 100,000 gil (almost everybody), you'll permanently affect the amount of gil on the server leading to inflation. The low value of one item is a better risk to take than the inflation of gil altogether and SE knows that, why else do you think they've set the limit? If it's to combat RMT, then there's no hope of them raising it.

I agree with you that bring in items is different than bring in gils. However, the way I'm seeing it, it's actually worse.

I'm not an expert on economics so this could makes no sense but this is how I see it:

Bring in items:

Old server: Shortage on hot items, these items price increases significantly, screwing everyone else .
New server: Overflow on hot items, and people who transferred will undercut these items like crazy to minimize their loss. These items price drops significantly, screwing over the people who originally made/gathered them and expect a certain return.

Bring in gils:

Old server: Less people with a huge amount of money to buy what they want, price of good on the market will drop to compensate, but likely at a much slower rate.
New server: New people with a huge amount of money, however, these people will not burn what they have right away on the new server within a short amount of time. Most likely will hoard these money like what they do on the old servers. The market will not see a huge spike in the number of purchases. Eventually price of items will raise to compensate.

Overall, bring in items will have a huge short term impact on the economy of both servers whereas bring in gil will have a slow but long term impact on the economy of both servers and likely be absorbed and minimize the impact.

I see your point but if somebody is moving tens of millions its surely not going to be in only a few items. No matter how you slice it is going to impact the economy.

I can tell you from experience that I moved servers a year ago from a small server to a legacy and the difference in the economy was minimal. If I would have been able to move gil the effect I had on the economy would have been the same.

Edit: Also I'm not advocating the amount be moved to 50M but the current 1.2M limit was set nearly 2 years ago when this game was new and the economy was yet to be established. I think if SE took the time audit and adjust the limit based on what we have currently it would be a nice compromise.

To me, the huge gil sink is housing. Granted there isn't a lot of availability on housing. But those people who transferred will not be able to bring their house with them, and they will be looking for new housing if there's any available. Finger crossed by SE to implementing new housing ward for us to burn our gil in it.

And honestly speaking if I can bring all the money I have with me, I'm not going to spent it all right away on the new server. I will keep hoarding it like I use to do and most likely burn it on future gil sinks. There will be inflation, but at a much slower process.

Why not just raid the market board and buy up all the allagan gil items? May be a few gil more than asking but still allows you to take it with you in a way.

True, but this is not one person we are talking about right now. Between all of my friends who wants to transfer, there's already multiple persons with 50+mils. I haven't checked the market board but I don't think it's possible to buy out even a portion of what you own given how many people are looking to transfer.

Yes I know 50M might be a bit too much but one can only hope =)

I wouldn't mind losing up to 50% of my existing gil... but with only 1mil allowed I'm looking at a loss of 90+%

Best advice I can give is set an alt on the destination server and check the MB for comparable prices or items you can make a profit on. Start buying up what you can based on the info gathered. Best case scenario you make a profit and worse case you have items on the MB for a while or get undercut and take a small loss.

Well the problem is that despite there being a fair number of Europeans on the Chaos datacenter, there's plenty of people from NA as well who are essentially being forcefully transfered to a server with higher ping than what they currently have. Sure, free transfers are a great gesture but that's like if someone uprooted your apartment complex and chucked it into another country. They would let you go back for free but they would only let you bring a portion of your things and a small percentage of your savings. So you're stuck deciding between staying in this new place or going back to where you were without a good chunk of your stuff. I think for the people that got transferred like this there should be a special exception and have the gil limit removed or at least raised as they're essentially going to be uprooted against their will (even if they did have prior knowledge of it the transfer caps issue is still a thing).

Ya that's most likely what I'm going to do while crossing finger for SE to do something about it.

Or I'll just burn all my money to craft a few sets of 170HQ to gear up all my crafting class and start over on the new server :(

Now, allowing people to keep all their gil during the free transfer can be a healthy temporary gil sink fo the chaos server group ^^

In general, raising the gil limit should have been done ages ago. (I'd even say outright abolished, but that's a different subject.) But for this, especially.
