Not trying to start anything but why. I am an AST and cleric stance helps a lot.
Cleric Stance is only given to CNJ since it's the only healer class that starts out at level 1 and they certainly need a way to DPS while soloing; it's a cross class skill for the same reason, since SCH requires 15 CNJ and also needs to be able to DPS while soloing. It's primarily a remnant from 1.0 and necessary cross-class skill to allow SCH/AST to solo, rather than a class-defining ability. If SCH/AST started from level 1, I have no doubt they would each have their own version of Cleric Stance.
It shouldn't take up a slot, it's too important. Ast and Sch without Cleric wouldn't work, and there's no other cross class skill like that.
Give us something cool and unique at 6, put cleric stance at 1 as a free ability.
I agree with the above person that Cleric Stance should be baseline and not require a cross class slot.
Same with Swiftcast, Invigorate, and Provoke honestly.
Eh. I like Cleric stance! It lets me slack off as DPS, since the healer obviously wants to do my job.
As a WHM I'd kinda like to see this happen...just to see the sheer outrage it would cause :)
Yes let's completely ruin SCH for everyone that'll make the game fun >.>.
Instead of thinking of practical suggestions for WHM people just want to take everyone else's toys away. AST has been buffed so much because it was terrible but people wanted to actually play it. It's always the same with new classes they are either stupidly OP or really bad and only usable by pro players in real endgame. Then the patching begins.
As an astro... I probably wouldn't notice. We have the worst DPS and worst mp, so it always falls to the other healer to DPS.
That said, this would be a pretty screwed up thing to do to scholars. It's just mean
Something i would love to see maybe next year on April 1 patch notes.
Haha xD
Good one OP.
Let's go ahead and get rid of swift cast as well, Real skilled players hard cast everything.
A better solution is to make ALL offensive spells from the healer come from their MIND stats, and not INT stats.... This will solve the dumb "stance dance" exercise and simplify healing process... And make all healer offensive spells ALWAYS hit and land its full potency.
Many people prob don't remember this, but prior to the 2.0 launch, Cleric Stance was WHM only. It was a relic from 1.0 and was never even considered into the x-class system. It was only after a ton of SCH players bitched they couldn't DPS as well as WHM that it was changed.
So, in essence, like Enhanced Protect and Graniteskin, Cleric Stance was another item of identity that WHM gave up at some point. In fact, WHM has given up more skills and traits for the sake of balance than any other job so far. Food for thought :P
Maybe by the time we get to 4.0, they will overhaul the entire class + jobs system and get rid of any traces of 1.0.... and start new with all jobs in the first place. They can keep the "every 5 levels" quest intact and just change the wording. Really dislike 1.0 with passion lol, but I understand they have to keep a lot of it since they were pressed for time when relaunching FF14.
How would SCH players complain about this when SCH itself didnt exist until after 2.0, WHM Cleric stance wasnt cross class because there was no other healer in the game previous to ARR's launch and the only other job that COULD make use of it was BLM who would by the way it used to work just get it as a buff with no penelty...
EDIT: And before you say anything to try and dispute this, as someone who played the game from the first stress test alpha where they had us all running through the shroud playing follow the leader (only available to JP SEID holders) you could cross class clerics stance onto any class (not job mind you) during the beta though the swap over would only hurt you (there was a very long discussion on the merits of doing a MND build for THM with clerics stance on THM on the beta forum after they enabled starting from other cities than gridania)
When I say launch I refer to the actual launch, not counting testing (bad habit from being a game developer). After alpha the ruleset was adjusted on which jobs could access which abilities. After the level lock was lifted in the later beta to allow for job leveling, SCH initially could not use cleric stance. It was not included in the ruleset. This means that, at some point, it was consciously left out upon ACN development. It was not left out due to ACN having it's own version, as this would have been calculated into the equation with the role shift. We can then deduce that, at one point, SE didn't view DPS potential as vital enough to develop said skill.
I am unsure as to where you received this information from however with the official launch having taken place on August 27th 2013 and posts debating clerics stance use on SCH stemming from as early as September 2nd with no mention of any changes to the ability in any patch notes between the 17th (Beta phase 4 and the first time Arcanist was playable) and the 2nd I find this doubtful at best.
If I recall, it wasn't in any patch. It was a little change they added in during a maintenance downtime sometime in early September or late August. I don't have my old screenshots (the SSD I played on back in beta died the next spring) but I was able to find this post that mentions the same thing I remember happening (so I know I'm not losing my mind).
The exact quote is If my memory is indeed not failing me (sucks getting old sometimes), we can assume the change occurred sometime between August 27th and August 31st.
Anyways, (since the conversation has spun beyond my original intent) I merely stated it just to show that it's necessary for some classes to sacrifice more than others for the sake of balance, or at least pleasing people.
No need to remove it, just add a traid that makes it exclusive to WHMs/CNJs
like when you use cleric stance your damage is increased by x%
or when you use cleric stance your mp cost is reduced by x%
or when you use cleric stance your accuracy is increased by x%
Or all of this.
Why not?
Man, if they did that, the MSQ fights would be even more ridiculous to finish as a healer, haha.
THM before the major overhaul had a couple healing abilities that sacrificed your HP to give it to others and a raise but it was far from the healer CNJ was. I would say 1.0 THM was probably the most unique and interesting class in the game as it came with so much more than fire fire fire fire ice ice ice ice thunder fire fire fire fire and I would liken it more to a red mage than a black mage at the time. I believe the class went over a major overhaul in 1.20 which made it a lot more similar to what we have now but I may be remembering the wrong patch.

Better yet, remove CS entirely and have healers get their damage boost from their mind stat instead of int, adjust the spell damages accordingly, and let their mana management be the only thing determining how well they DPS, instead of how well they clumsily flip the CS switch on and off.
Also, accuracy is a dumb stat that's a hold over from when RPGs had two buttons. WoW got rid of all flavors of it for good reason (and they had like 3 different stats that translated into accuracy, lawl...).
Remove that crap and just let player attacks hit. Crit chance is enough RNG as it is.
Yes let WHM keep cleric stance, also SCH healing could scale from INT, and AST damage could scale from mind.
Do you realize how OP Sch would be if they removed cleric stance from it and let their attacks scale based off mind ?
You know full well they couldn't tweak the damage without effecting SMN due to them sharing a base class of arcanist.
The amount of salt and tears from whm would be even higher than it is now.
I play sch. Let the whm have cleric stance only. They really have given up enough in this game already. Also it doesn't hurt that I have all three healers to 60 so switching jobs depending on circumstance is normal to me.
