i160 > i170 > i180 > i190 > i200 > i210

Seriously slow down. You are outdating content and drops way to fast. Why bang our heads against the wall get a piece of gear that's going to just be retainer gear in a couple weeks?

Seriously, though. I was surprised with the ilevel pace too, but I think that with Esoterics out, it's gonna go back to the old pace now. It was all pre-gear for Esoterics/Alex Savage.

Yea the gear will stay the same for a while, but before heavensward is over there will more than likely be a couple more 30 item level jumps in gear.

iLvl 210 is going to be the highest for a while now at last until 3.2 comes.

I agree, too fast. Overwhelming.

I think the gear pace was more about getting people hooked while enough content was released to keep everyone interested. By the time we get Eso gear, they will release 3.1 with more content, relic, and Eso upgrades to keep us hooked.

Item levels nearly drove me away from XIV a week or so ago. Instead I actually quit raiding a few days after 3.05 and I'm much happier for it!! The item lvl thing has gotten out of hand in my opinion.
I agree with the OP. I barely got my first job to i170 before I was getting messages from my static expecting me to have full i180 before Alexander NM dropped. So, I spent an entire 3 days doing nothing but non-stop hunts when I really wanted to be gathering/crafting and levelling other classes to see if I'd rather play one of those.
I finally hit i180 after all those hunts and upgrading just to have my efforts invalidated 1-2 days later because i190 stuff was implemented in Alex Normal Mode. So then it was everyman for them self in NM as far as lots go. Then 2 weeks later Savage dropped and folks in my static were freaking out that we NEED to get full i190 for Savage runs. That lasted ONE day before they were freaking out that they wanted us all to be i200+ as soon as possible so we could easily clear this floor or that floor or what have you... My story isn't uncommon either I'm afraid...

But, Ya know what happened next? Their pressuring me to gear up and gear up and gear up (and level and gear up another job cuz Bard at the time was getting so much flak) caused me to jump ship on my static. I quit. I quit raiding so I could go and ENJOY myself and the rest of the game. Gear, raiding and ilvls are only a necessity for raiding. Sure, they make things easier in other content too but its not a necessity in any of that. I can gear up slowly with Esoterics and it will get easier eventually. But I no longer care about raiding and by extension item levels and Im that much happier for it. I finally got the chance to go enjoy other things!

In the future, I hope SE learns from this. I understand the raiders want to raid as fast as humanly possible, but there are more than just raiders out there, let's take it easy and ease into it next time please. I'd rather not burn out on the game in a week.
Besides, back in 2.X we didn't just suddenly jump from i55>i120+. No, it happened gradually over the course of several major patches.

At the current pace we'll be i400 by Halloween. :P

Yes but those patches weren't less than 2-3 weeks apart. They were 2-3 months apart. Folks had time to gear up (some on multiple jobs) before the next patch released. Right now, I have almost no sense of accomplishment. Just this constant pressure to rush to the next set of gear. I barely got to enjoy the first set or the second, Now there's a 3rd.... and 4th.

no no no no! 2.0 was 60->90, you had only one weapon to 95.... seriously what we can read here is scary.

60 was from Amdapor and wanderer, 70 was the phylo (old darklight set from the V1), 80 did come with the 2.1 and 90 from Myth and BC.

yeah the pace of ilevel is kinda too fast, instead to work to give us more choice, 2.0-2.1 was the best period, why that? because people had choice between gears without being forced to do raid. instead to work on this and add another activity outside raiding for make people gather another gears, they have make a freaking line.

we did grind fractal and neverreap for the law and equip ourself for do alexander NM, now we need to regrind them for the esotheric *sighs*.

Yoshida and it team did misunderstood something, grind from stuff is what we do, that a given.... but what we wanted was not get more grind in the same activity... but more diversity! not some gears that will be outdated too fast.

oh by the way, people no one wonder, what will drop the 24 man raid? because if that continue like this... we will get something like a i180-190 gears from it... *sighs*

nope, some player was already full i70 from V1, people tend to forget that the 2.0 is called like this because is only a major update of the game.

another point if they keep the rythm they us, we will see this for the 3.2:
- dungeon set
- uncaped token set (esotheric)
- alexander part 2 NM set (probably i220)
- caped token set (i230)
- Alexander part 2 savage (probably i240)

why this range of ilevel? because they will give a way to obtain the upgrade item from the 24 man raid, making people get 210, then what the point to make an alexander NM that drop an ilevel already covered for 6 month? people will not do it without them carrot

ps: yoshida himself have said that the gap of ilevel will be greater in heavensward...

It's going to take a long time before people are full ilvl200+ and probably longer for ilvl210. .

people have 5 month before the release of the new tiers.... then equip them main jobs full i210 is not impossible... some will even have 2 jobs equiped (since they will get some from raid)

you simply don't read i guess, it will be done far before the 3.2 is release, like it was always done before.... long, not really some people will connect for do 1-2 dungeon a day and still get them full gears, the point is.... do this player enjoy what they do? because that the point, do this gated grind is fun? no obviously, why that? because you have no fun to redo content that don't change whatever you do!

the principale weakness of FF14 is the lack of replayable content... loot don't make a content replayable nor enjoyable. until they understand this, the problem will remain there.

the drop of wanderer palace was i55 you are right, but amdapor was 60 i'm sure of this. they did change the table of drop later same for pharos sirius that was i60. but that not the point, by chaining amdapor (doable with the AF) you was gaining phylo and i60 gears then....

This pacing is almost identical to 2.0's with the primary difference being smaller gaps in between tiers (originally we jumped from i70 to i90 and it wasn't till some months later we got i80) and equipment being upgradable from the outset instead of being something introduced later. Honestly, all these tiers that are all obtained in different ways is a good thing. It makes it easier to gear up multiple classes at once. The only people this should pose a problem to are those players who want all of their classes in the best gear immediately instead of adhering to a trickle down policy.

SE said a whole bunch of times that they wanted to advance item levels a little faster this time so they could insert content in between item level tiers a little better. So now they're doing that, why are people surprised?

illvl 70 gear (darklight) and ilvl 90 with capped tomes , i was able to buy Darklight chest after 2 days farming Amdapor (the old run to door and die made it faster to be fair)

Just progress at your own pace. Higher item level gear will not be added for a very long time now.

Patches 3.01 and 3.05 were fragments of the Heavensward launch that got staggered out to allow players time to level and enjoy the story at their own pace before endgame weekly rewards began (alexander/esoterics).

It's all released now, they are not going to keep adding content patches at that pace, and the next one will be more of a gear catch-up than an increase -- 24 player alliance raid, rewards will not be stronger than alexander savage.

Yes, Amdaport was 60. It went i55-60-70-90 at release. Your primal weapons and allagan weapon skewed things at points but the sets were based around that. i80 came later with LotA's release for a end upgrade path of i55-60-70-80-90.

Most of the player-base were not doing Amdapor in just their AF. The dps check of Demon Wall at release was a huge block for a lot of people.

depend of the person, we had no trouble to pass the demon wall, the dps check wasn't that hard, it simply people was bad to do it while taking care of the add. one of the rare place where the LB was really usefull in dungeon.

To be fair? Many many people used GC weapons and Wanderer's Palace i55 gear to be able to get through Amdapor. You are completely disregarding Wanderer's Palace, as a dungeon and its i55 set, to skew an argument in your favor.

At level 50 you had WP, AK, Philo, Myth and Allagan. (5)
At level 60 you have Never/Fractal, Law, Prototype, Eso, Gordian. (5)
If you really, for whatever reason, want to include the upgrades on Law and Eso, that is indeed 7. But why? Upgrading Law is trivial and only serves to fluff your stats while you get Prototype gear/Eso and Eso upgrades are there, like always, to compete with Gordian at endgame.

You aren't really invalidating much of anything any differently in the past. Once you got i70 philo, the i55 and i60 sets were worthless to your main class but still useful to your alt classes. Once you get i180 on your main class, the i160 gear is just the same.

Through natural flow, you don't replace your i180 pieces for weeks and weeks for i190/200 gear due to lockouts and Eso is gated behind a cap. It isn't like we are all walking around in i190 plus or are going to be strutting through content in i200+ anytime soon.

Having gearing options and trickle for alt classes isn't a bad thing at all. I for one enjoy the fact that my AST is i180, my NIN is working on i190 and my MCN will be i200 in its own time. All 3 of which will be relevant for content. This doesn't even include the set from the coming 24-man.

If your focus is on only one class, then the progression of gear is a breeze. You can even skip the i180 entirely (though why would you as upgrading to i180 is as simple as buying the i170 now) and get i190 pieces with your i170 gear. No different than the skip between i70 and i90. i80 wasn't necessary but when it was released it was a nice fluff for those that came later.

On the realease 2.0 our gear progression was from 1 to 90
On the major patches was 20 ilvl each 2 patches

Now on the 3.0 expansion is from 130 to 210, if we said that we start from 120 to 210, there is no absolute difference with 2.0
Is much possible that bu the end the maximun ilvl will be 250, maybe.

The only difference is that SE fixed a lot of mistakes and now in fact getting gear is much more easier and also there even more end game gears than before

People certainly have selective memories:

Darklight (Law gear) >> CT (Alex Normal) >> Myth gear (Eso gear) >> Coil (Alex Savage)

The only difference between 2.0 and 3.0 is that they give us the option to upgrade Law gear and Eso gear right away rather than waiting a few months. And upgrading is more for vanity than item level.

Between level 50 and completing the first Binding Coil of Bahamut our item levels went from level 50 to level 90, with the weapons received from Twintania being item level 95. Here, we see a similar trend with our item levels growing accordingly. We start at level 60 with an item level of 150. Expert dungeons reward item level 160, much like the expert dungeons before rewarding item level 55-60. From there, we have our Yasha armor, set at item level 170. This is similar to the Darklight armor at item level 70. A stark difference in Heavensward is that we have access to rather than just better weapons before our capped tomestones, we have a middle step, Asuran armor at item level 180. The sets which served this purpose in A Realm Reborn were those gotten from the Labyrinth of the Ancients at item level 80, but these weren't added until later, leaving us just with the weapons obtained from Titan to face the first Binding Coil with.

Now, the Binding Coil and Alexander is where things get interesting. The first Binding Coil and the Allagan Tomestones of Mythology which came with it both rewarded item level 90 equipment. In Heavensward, we have Alexander and Ravana rewarding item level 190 equipment. However, they wished for the savage version of Alexander to have higher item levels suitable for the effort you put in, hence why the Allagan Tomestones of Esoterics and Alexander (Savage) rewards item level 200 and 210 equipment respectfully. Most likely, the new 24-man raid in 3.1 will also reward item level 200 equipment, leaving Alexander: Gordias (Savage) as the sole source of item level 210 equipment until the next wing of Alexander, which will likely reward item level 210 equipment, with the new Tomestones and Savage mode of the next Alexander wing rewarding 220 and 230 respectfully. This pattern will likely continue with us reaching an end item level of 250 by the time Heavensward is over.

And it wouldn't matter even if 210 was completely locked behind Savage. Why? Because you don't need 210 gear. There's nothing in the game that requires 210 gear, not even Savage. And the 210 gear looks just like the 190 gear, so vanity isn't an excuse either.

Um... that sort leaves at least until we learn more, Savage mode as the sole source of item level 210 equipment. Obtaining equipment to upgrade your equipment is sort of limiting that item level to people on the cutting edge. Even if the new 24-man content somehow rewards goblin refinements, it would be likely time gated much like Savage mode is now. I personally hope they don't take that route myself, leaving the best gear to the best content isn't a bad thing, since it is at that point a "bragging rights reward."

This sure as hell beats the wonky i70 to i90 jump in 2.0. So, no, I disagree, this is just fine as it is. Allows for people of every play-style to gear at their own pace, especially when these will be our ilevels until 3.2.

Savage is indeed the only place to get the 2 sets of 210 gear presently, though when the 24-man is released that won't be the case. This pattern is the same as it has always been. When the 24 man drops Savage isn't going to be the only source to upgrade Esoterics, as I don't see SE changing their setup.

I wasn't talking about Gordian gear, I was talking about what you were talking about: Upgrades for Eso gear.

You may very well be right that in the future we'll be able to get the upgrade items from the 24 man or from a repeatable weekly quest. What I was saying is whether they do or not is completely irrelevant for two reasons:

1) 210 gear isn't necessary for any content in the game, not even Savage, so it wouldn't matter even if most people couldn't get it. 200 is plenty for all content in the game.
2) Gordian gear has the same appearance as it's 190 equivalent, so nobody is missing out on vanity or anything.


Sure, they may let us upgrade another way in the future, but it's pretty irrelevant. And most likely, by the time you can upgrade Eso gear with something other than Savage drops, we'll probably have the next weekly limited token gear (215 or 220).

Gordian gear appearing the same at Prototype gear has nothing whatsoever to do with Esoterics (its looks, its upgradability and dying etc). What exactly would this be a reason for?

By the time we can upgrade Esoterics outside of Savage will in all likely-hood be the same time they allow it like always, at the end of this raid tier just before the next batch of Alexander floors are released.
