Party Rushing as I Watch Cutscenes

I have a problem. I reach the last two quests in a Realm Reborn. And the main story is really nice.

I was getting really excited for the ending and then came the big dungeons. On the first, I barely got to do anything, becaue people kept rushing ahead while I watched the cutscenes. Mind you, I'm not a slowreader people just didn't wait a second.

Then came the last mission and I was watching cutscene after cutscene. I didn't fight a single boss, it was being an awful experience so I just left the game. Not really interested in doing the last mission like that.

Question is, what can I do?

Watch the cutscenes later at the inn.

There's nothing you can do. People will always rush like that, that's just how the community is, 98% of them are inconsiderate people. You can though, run them with your fc mates, who will (maybe) wait for you watching cutscenes. I was like you when I was running the last 2 dungeons, forced to skip the cutscene. You can watch the cutscene at inn afterwards but that's not even fun at all.

That is not the same thing and that's not how the game is supposed to be experienced.

It's the same as going to the movies and only reading the subtitles, because you can watch the movie in any other language later.

It sucks, but.. I'd rather watch the cutscenes myself.

The cutscenes are referring to things going on *in the dungeon*, which you don't get at the inn. It's like trying to read a novel by reading every other paragraph because later you'll be able to go back and read just the odd-numbered paragraphs you missed. Neither dungeon nor cutscenes make any sense at all that way. Later access to cutscenes is great for things like taking screenshots, but it's not going to give you the story of what's going on.

Watch cut scenes in the inn is retarded. There's nothing you can do. There's so many gimme gimme players out there that forget that there is real art and story to be had here. Watch them in the inn? While you're at it, get yourself a leveling bot....

I had to make a Party Finder party for the dungeons because of this. I recommend you do the same, and set No Cutscene Skipping, even if you've already done the dungeons. For an added bonus challenge, turn on "Minimum IL" option as well and make sure to put that in your party finder recruitment. Ask people in your FC to join and help as well and you should have some fun.

I'd just watch the cutscenes. If people are that impatient then forget them. More people are nice than are not, but you could also run them with some FC mates. All of my FC peeps are awesome.

In short, if you want to watch the cutscenes AND participate in every encounter you will need to find either a 1) all new group or 2) a group of your friend's willing to be patient with you. There really is no middle ground here. This is why in subsequent patches and in Heavenward there are no more of these 8man story dungeons. They reduced them down to 4 people for multiple reasons and this is the largest.

As for the encounters... you will more than likely do these dungeons at least a few times based solely on the fact that they are decent sources of xp on their daily roulette. So choose to either watch the cutscenes and miss a couple of encounters (normally even the CS watchers will catch up for the final 2 bosses) or skip them and watch them in the inn at a later time.

I was fairly upset about this too.. I was told to watch cutscenes later, which I watched the first cutscene and was locked out of the first boss, so I skipped the others, hoping to fill it all in at the inn later. Only to find that the stuff i skipped wasnt at the inn...

Everything is at the inn the problem is that it's not in the quest but in the duty list of the cutscenes.

And I have ran these with FC and others to wait with the cutscenes for people - to experience it all. Because frankly if you do skip them you lose the meaning of the dungeons. But I've also timed them a few times and CM isn't that much of a prob. It's like 5 minutes of cutscenes - nobody should have a problem with that. The problem comes in Prae which has about 30 minutes of cutscenes. So to experience it the best is get FC or use the PF to get people that can spend the time helping you out. Most people you get in DF at this point in time are there for the quick exp and have probably ran these for the billionth time.

Orl, I had the exact same issue when I got to the end of 2.0 A Realm Reborn. Ppl told me to watch it at the inn. I ended up watching it there and missed 90% of the fighting. :( It sucked, but I didn't want to miss the story and skip the cut scenes.

After reading this, I know that when I reach higher level I will watch all cutscenes the first time through a dungeon. If people want to kill stuff without me, then great! I fell in love with this game because of the storylines.

I watch them generally. If there is a CS i haven't seen then I just tell them i'm gonna watch these because they are new to me. Ive never gotten more then a git gud noob comment. Which im ok with.

Most people aren't that bad. If you try and ask them nicely at the start of the dungeon, explaining you're new and you'd like to watch the cutscenes, most groups will wait for you. Unless they're all complete jerks.

When there are at least 2 new people in it, I always make an effort to convince the party to make it a "story run", as in, waiting for the new people to finish watching the cutscenes before rushing off to the next fight.
Some people turn on cutscene viewing too and rewatch it and are usually pretty happy to relive the experience they first had when it all started.
But I also had people leave over it, because they couldn't be bothered to spend more than 10 minutes in the dungeon..=_=°
Just try and ask nicely and hope you get people who aren't complete jerks.

The only real solution to this problem is to catch up with the bulk of the players. When close to everyone is new to the content, nearly everyone is watching the cutscenes so no one can rush off and start fighting on their own :x
But that's a long term goal so don't stress over it and just go at your own pace and ask people to wait for you. There ARE a lot of nice players, they often just go along with the rushers unless asked otherwise.

Just move on. It's not a problem past those 2 dungeons.

I have yet to hear of someone being lucky enough to have a large enough majority of nice people to actually force the rest of the group to wait. Every report I have heard is you are getting thrown to the wolves. There may be a couple nice people but the content is so easy to clear that the impatient people don't need them either. It sucks. You can either not participate in fights and just watch all the cut scenes from your starting position as everything dies without you, or you can skip the cut scenes and watch at the inn. It sucks, but SE learned their lesson and designed later dungeons differently so this is the only time you will have this problem.

The only way you will get to watch cut scenes is if you find some nice people to go in with you. If you have a FC, try asking them. If you aren't in an FC, this may be a good time to find one. With the new undersized party rules, 3-5 level 60 people could go in with you and clear, so you don't have to get 7 more people like you used to.

The level 60 dungeon (or was it the trial?) has a not-so-short cutscene in the middle of the fight.
I wish SE hadn't done it that way. I was fortunate to have a second player doing it for the first time as well so it wasn't a big deal to watch it. The content still being new to many helps but I wish they would tell the story differently.

Yeah I was very frustrated when it came to those final 2 8man dungeons. I didn't experience any of the encounters as I literally entered the dungeon and watched cut scenes until it was over (in Praetorium anyway). By the time I got through the cut scenes, Ultima was dead and there was one other guy left with me who also didn't even enter combat, lol.

I wasn't cursing out the players however, I was pissed off that SE thought it was a good idea to put 30 minutes of cut scenes into an 8 player dungeon!! I mean really!?!!? Everything was great up to that point; I was extremely disappointed by the way it was handled.

Basically if you are a new player to this game, you will NOT be able to enjoy the end of MSQ 2.0 content as it was intended to be enjoyed without forming your own party of people on the same page as you. Good luck with that!

For the most part, they have made it so cutscenes happen after you leave the instance. But, I guess they couldn't do all the narrative they wanted for that one. Still far, far less than the old 8 man story dungeons.

I also prefer watching cutscenes "live". However, at first, since I didn't want to come out as rude for making people wait for me either, I skipped them and was sorry about that, especially when we usually happened to wait anyway for a few other people watching the cuntscenes themselves. So now I go the middle ground: when entering a new dungeon I press "enter" and ask in party chat if there are any other people watching the cutscene and/or whether they wouldn't mind me watching it. I've met a few crazy tanks rushing anyway but so far this strategy is working and the little somewhat immersion-breaking chat box is a small price to pay for my peace of mind.

As I tank these dungeons, I'll offer to stay behind while the people watch the CSes. Nowadays, people are so overgeared, you don't need two tanks for those last couple dungeons. I don't even think you need tanks any more lol. Anyways, after the dungeon, I always get a few comms, prolly from the people I stayed behind with.

I do think SE should lock the bosses until everyone is out of their CS. Make the game force the CS to continue after 30 seconds so trolls don't hold the party hostage.

This is certainly a problem that was addressed with Heavensward. I only got to experience the final two dungeons in 2.0 when we were busy with T9 and decided to rerun things for fun. I hardly fought in them my first time through.

Fortunately, my friend tanks and I used to heal (maining MCH now, but leveling AST), so either way, the party can't go forward without one of us. The cutscenes are there for a reason and, as someone else said, you completely lose the effect if you just wait to watch them at the inn. It's only a few minutes, and we should all be patient for others.

I'm lucky because I go with my FC mate that time they wait for me.
But that content can be considered old already, why don't SE give new player options to go with AI just for story purpose.

I wish I could say it gets better, but it sadlly doesn't. I didn't get to the newest raid instance (Alex) until the second week it was out. There was a brief cutscene before at the start of the run - brief in that it completed by the time someone typed out "ugh watch the cs later in the inn plz". And then "thx" after noticing the cutscene icon was no longer above my head (as if I had ceased my enjoyment of the game's experience just for him). The two story instances you're referring to are probably the most cutscene heavy examples out there. But that won't stop impatient players from spitting on you later on down the line if you choose to take up even 30-60 seconds of their time with an introductory cutscene elsewhere. More often than not, the FFXIV community is just horrible like that.

My advice to new players (if you can manage it) - go with friends. I'm big on the storyline and was warned in advanced that the 2.0 story ended with some cutscene-heavy instances that were often a nightmare experience for new players. So, I went to my guild's forum and made a thread asking if a) anyone would be willing to go, with the understanding that we'd be pausing and watching the cutscenes as they happened, and b) (taking it a step further) we'd be doing the run with our ilevel 45-50 artifact gear/no equipment above i-level 55 (which is now even easier with the new dungeon sync options, something that didn't exist back then). People were actually nervous we'd suffer wipes trying to do the dungeon "at the intended ilevel", but we were more than fine. :)

I ended up having more people signing up for the run that I could take, with people in my guild donating their supplies and time to craft up ilevel ~50 accessories and weapons for our group. And we had a blast joking around on voice-chat the entire run. I could not have asked for a better finale to my 1-50 storyline, and that is honestly how everyone should try to experience it at all possible. Every time I hear of an experience like the original poster's or someone settling for watching the cutscenes later on in the inn (when the context of the moment is missing), it just makes my inner-gamer and RPG lover sad.

They are in there because I have skipped them and watched them later. You need to make sure you are on the right ones and then after you watch the first click the little ">" arrow by the bar that looks like play and it will bring up the next cut scene. It took me a minute to figure it out also cuz I had the same problem.

The fact that Square put a 30 min cut scene in a dungeon on a daily roulette is insanity. They should have known better and you can't be mad at the player running the roulette to not want to watch the same 40 mins worth of cut scenes in a 20 min dungeon everyday. Luckily this doesn't happen in the Heavens ward story.

There's also an undersized party option that allows you to enter with less than eight people. You won't get XP for the fights, but you'll be able to do it with, for example, a level 60 friend or two. I recently had lots of fun doing CM as a 60 paladin with just a 50 white mage and 51 monk. Really let us master the fights' mechanics. Remember to repair =).

They were put in the roulette to help those that need to do them for the first time (otherwise they can't progress the story). They have even increased the rewards for doing them, and they introduced the "new player" bonus. I don't know what else do people need to stop thinking about "ME ME ME" and consider why these dungeons are there in the first place. Is it that hard to wait and let others experience the content as it was meant to be experienced?

If you do the main scenario roulette you should be aware that you can get these kind of players, and you should act accordingly or not enter at all. You can try to use as many excuses as you want, but going there knowing all that and not waiting for someone new is rude and unwelcoming, no matter how you try to explain or distort it. We all are the first ones interested in keeping all those new players playing the game, and not leaving.

THank you! I had no idea that 'duties' option existed.

As much as I would like to feel for you, after two years of playing the game the same place gets boring for many players. If your in the DF and not a premade group its honestly just something you'll have to live with. Most people would rather only waste 20-30 mins of their life than 40-60 waiting for only one or two people who haven't got to see it yet. (this is coming from someone who has never skipped a cut scene regardless of the hate I have gotten.)

There is one big problem with telling people to watch them if they want but the group continues on...you vets tend to avoid killing a lot of things and new people don't know where or how to avoid them. That happened to me in Castrum. The second cs started right in the middle of a damned fight [WTF!] and by the time I managed to get out of it everyone was gone and not even showing on my map. I stuck my head into the next room and promptly got killed by about 6 mobs. Someone finally realized and came back to show me the route.

The same thing happened to me at the beginning of the Praetorium. It was a Party Finder group that had "No cut-scene skipping" in the PF conditions. When I was asking in /shout for people to join my PF, I pointed out that it was for a full story run, with cutscenes. Once we had a full group, we discussed in party chat that it was to be a full story run and nobody should skip or run ahead. Everyone agreed to that. But by the time I completed the opening cutscene and entered the dungeon, everybody was gone. Well, everyone from my team, at least. All the mobs were still there. Apparently, if you know where you're going, you can just run past them to the exit, but of course, I didn't know where that was, and couldn't explore by myself to find it in a room filled with mobs designed for a full party to tackle.

I asked where everyone was, and eventually one person came back to find me, but by that point the rest of the team had finished the first boss, so one of those shortcut portals to the last finished area appeared by the entrance, and we just took that to catch up. (So I still have no idea where the actual exit from that first room is.) Through the whole run, the best I could occasionally manage was when I was able to keep the rest of the team in sight while I chased after them. I never got a chance to strike a single blow against anything, nor to see anything that happened through the whole dungeon, up until the final boss. At that point, they finally waited for me, and I did get to take part in the final boss fight. But after missing the entire rest of the dungeon, it seemed rather pointless to do that bit (which was, of course, completely out of context by that point).

And, as mentioned, this was on a "no cutscene skipping" PF run.

Unfortunately if you DF on any of the dungeons then you're gonna have people that will run ahead of you, its a fact that most people that are running those dungeons are likely trying to get through them ASAP, and its highly likely that at least one person is on the roulette wheel.
